Grammy-Nominated “The Pretender” Sets Record for Weeks At #1 Alternative

Foo Fighters have added two more dates to their upcoming early ‘08 arena tour in support of their sixth studio album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. The two new dates, March 3 at San Diego’s Cox Arena and March 5 at the Forum in Los Angeles, along with previously announced dates February 1 at the Reno Events Center and February 2 at Oakland’s Oracle Arena will go on sale this Saturday at www.ticketmaster.com

2007 has been a banner year for Foo Fighters, most recently for the highest profile Grammy nominations of the band’s 12-year-plus career: Their five nods this year include their first ever in the Album of the Year and Record of the Year categories. This makes the Foos’ career Grammy take a potential nine when the band attends the 50th Annual Grammy Awards Sunday, February 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles-Their previous wins being One By One and There Is Nothing Left To Lose for Best Rock Album in 2004 and 2000, “All My Life” for Best Hard Rock Performance win in 2003, and the “Learn To Fly” video’s 2000 Short Form Music Video Grammy.

Additionally, the Grammy-nominated first single from the current album, “The Pretender” just set the record for most weeks at #1 atop the Alternative radio chart. The track’s 17th week run at #1 surpasses the previous three-way tie at 16 weeks held by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day and Staind. Elsewhere on the chart, current single “Long Road To Ruin” moves to #2 Most Increased in the format.

Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace was released September 25th to the biggest worldwide fanfare of the Foo Fighters’ career. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY awarded the record an A, calling it “Perfect” and noting “The band has taken everything it’s always done best and brought it to the next level.” Elsewhere, EchoesÅ entered the UK chart at #1 with the biggest first week sales by an international artist in 2007 and the biggest first week sales ever on iTunes UK. More recently, the band announced and instantly sold out a 163,000 capacity two-night stand at Wembley Stadium.
