Third Man Records is proud to present and exciting new full length album from our favorite Third Man chanteuse… Olivia Jean!
Bathtub Love Killings is the debut solo LP from Olivia Jean, the multi-instrumentalist who cut her teeth in the Third Man stable backing folks as varied as Karen Elson, Wanda Jackson and Jack White in addition to fronting the much-loved Black Belles. Jean has accrued a lifetime of experience in a few short years, from highlight performances on The Colbert Report, Conan, Late Show With David Letterman and The Grand Old Opry stage to having one of her songs used as the theme for the television series Elvira’s Movie Macabre.
Produced by Jack White, Bathtub Love Killings showcases Jean as a songwriting force to be reckoned with. Playing damn-near every instrument she could get her hands on, the result is a well-rounded, catchy record that’s chock-a-block full of ear worm moments.

FAREWELL TO CANDLESTICK: THE FINAL CONCERT MEETS THE BEATLES’ 1966 FINAL SHOW
Paul McCartney took the crowd of 50,000 at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park on a magical mystery tour back through time at tonight’s historic Farewell To Candlestick: The Final Concert:
During a rarely performed rendition of Little Richard’s “Long Tall Sally” — the last song to be performed in its entirety at The Beatles’ August 29, 1966 final concert at the same venue — the crowd was transported back to that very same night courtesy of a collection of previously unreleased photographs by the late Jim Marshall.
The only photographer to be granted unfettered access to photograph The Beatles’ last ever concert, Marshall’s images were granted this exclusive usage by Paul for his bittersweet goodbye to this iconic ballpark. The images will next be viewable by the general public with the October 14 release of a new book on Marshall’s work The Haight: Love, Rock and Revolution(Insight Editions). The Haight… is currently available for pre-order at Amazon.com.
Jim Marshall is world-renowned as the pioneer of rock-and-roll photography. A principal photographer at Woodstock, and the only photographer allowed backstage at The Beatles’ last concert, he immortalized artists such as the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane before they became household names. His tools of the trade were a manual Leica camera and unlimited access to the artists. This allowed Marshall to capture some of the most iconic images in music history, and In 2014 Marshall became the first photographer ever to receive the GRAMMY Trustees Award for his body of work. Marshall passed away in 2010, and gave his iconic and inspired archive to his long-time assistant and friend Amelia Davis, who keeps Marshall’s legacy alive and thriving.
Farewell To Candlestick: The Final Concert is the latest sold out stop on Paul McCartney’s current Out There tour. As always, the marathon Out There sets feature music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, as Paul performs songs spanning his entire career – as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle. The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived; the very soundtrack of so many of our lives. The last decade has seen Paul and his band perform in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, Buckingham Palace, the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people, and even a live broadcast into Space. The tour resumes September 28 at Petco Park in San Diego.
“Their songs deliver a pure rush of musical elation… the power of familiar songs without actually sounding that much like other rock music at all.” — THE NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE
“They Want My Soul is Spoon’s strongest album yet, something rarely (if ever) said about a band’s eighth record.” — THE LOS ANGELES TIMES
Riding a tidal wave of rave reviews, killer TV appearances, and Triple A Top 10 single “Do You” (just added into rotation at mtvU and MTV2), Spoon’s eighth – and by all accounts, best – studio albumThey Want My Soul (Loma Vista/Concord) has entered the U.S. album chart at #4, selling nearly 40,000 copies in the week since its August 5 release.
They Want My Soul‘s #4 debuts ties the band’s career high, established by its previous albumTransference (Merge) which debuted in the same position in 2010.
They Want My Soul also claims the #1 spot at independent retail by a large margin, with nearly 20% of the record’s first week tally coming from Spoon’s groundbreaking Vinyl Gratification initiative. Additionally, They Want My Soul landed at #3 on the digital chart. Purchase They Want My Soul on Amazon and iTunes.
Spoon has put forth the official video for “Do You,” They Want My Soul‘s lead single. View the video now on VEVO.
Spoon recently kicked off its tour supporting the new album with a sold out show on the Fairbanks Lawn of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, as well as show-stealing performances at festivals including Governors Ball, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands, all of which back up ROLLING STONE’s warning that ”you’d be a fool to miss Spoon in concert if you get the chance”. “one of the greatest American rock bands of its generation…genres and trends shift with time, but craftsmanship like this never goes out of style.” –– TIME
“Spoon’s eighth album is an immediate grabber on par with the group’s best work to date… a rich, luminous sound for a set of hooky songs… Spoon have always done surprisingly well on their own terms, in their own world. And that world sounds bigger and brighter than ever.” –– ROLLING STONE, 4-Star Review
“What happened last night at the McKittrick probably won’t be replicated ever again, but it made a strong case that you’d be a fool to miss Spoon in concert if you get the chance.” — ROLLING STONE
“They Want My Soul is the quintet’s most booming LP… These songs rip and burst and just go… They didn’t burn out. They’re not fading away.” — PITCHFORK, 8.6 Best New Music
“the best American band of the 2000s” — MAGNET
“Spoon is the greatest band on Earth” –– STEREOGUM
They Want My Soul, the eighth – and by early accounts, best – studio album from Spoon, is now available in the United States. They Want My Soul is already awash in waves of critical acclaim which continue to roll in as fans and critics alike herald the return of the modern rock mainstays.
Spoon celebrated their record’s release last night on The Tonight Show where they performed “Do You”. Keep an eye on www.tonightshow.com for a special acoustic performance of “Inside Out” recorded in the band’s dressing room.
This weekend, Britt, Jim, Rob, Eric and Alex joined forces with Punchdrunk’s interactive play Sleep No More at The McKittrick Hotel and Myspace to give lucky fans a treat they won’t soon forget. Invitees arrived at the McKittrick where they began questioning just what was going to happen. Select fans were whisked away by Sleep No More‘s actors – and Spoon band members – in order receive sacraments and be “reborn”. Once sacraments were distributed and souls preserved, a curtain fell to reveal the band as they launched into a rollicking rendition of They Want My Soul‘s “Knock Knock Knock”. Spoon kept the crowd entranced and hollering through a set lasting over an hour that was packed with soon-to-be classics from They Want My Soul and other staples from the band’s catalog.
The release was preceded by the never-before-attempted Vinyl Gratification initiative where Spoon rewarded fans with an exclusive 45 RPM 10-inch vinyl for preordering the album from participating independent record stores. The program was met with rapturous participation, resulting in Vinyl Gratification materials completely selling out within the first week. For those who did not take advantage of Vinyl Gratification, They Want My Soul is now available on iTunes, Amazon,www.spoontheband.com and the shelves of your local record store.
Spoon recently put forth the official video for “Do You,” They Want My Soul‘s lead single. View the video now on VEVO.
The band is currently on tour throughout North America. And as ROLLING STONE claims above, “you’d be a fool to miss Spoon in concert if you get the chance”.
