Beck’s latest album and across the board contender for 2014 album of the year Morning Phase (Capitol) is spending its second week in the top 10 of the U.S. album chart, having sold almost 121,000 copies since its February 25 release.

The minimal drop sees Morning Phase move from #3 to #6 as pre-sales begin 10 a.m. local time this morning for the first 10 North American dates of Beck’s upcoming tour. Public on sales will beginFriday.

Aside from being the first chance to hear live renditions of material from the most instantly lauded album of Beck’s storied career, anyone who witnessed Beck’s mere handful of live shows in 2013 knows these new dates are not be missed at any cost-a cursory glance at the reviews of those 2013 shows easily puts them among the most enthusiastic raves of Beck’s-or anyone’s-career:

“Electrifying… another example of a Beck show that was so good, so special, that if you missed it, you simply missed it. It probably won’t go down like that again.”-THE BOSTON GLOBE

“It seemed downright perverse that a show this good only received two performances — the band had played Boston a couple of nights earlier — but then again, Beck has made a specialty, and a great success, of defying expectations and playing by his own rules.”-THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

“more like a 20 year retrospective on one of the most important artists of our generation rather than just a typical concert… As soon as the first few notes of ‘Devil’s Haircut’ hummed through the speakers, it was as if someone fired a gun in the air. Everyone’s attention was drawn to the stage and it pretty much stayed there for the next two hours.”-THE VILLAGE VOICE

“Defying music-business logic is one of the Californian’s areas or expertise, but it’s also the reason he commands such a devout following, even after more than two decades… and boy, has he covered a lot of ground up to now.”-THE NEW YORK POST

“a triumphant return… a rare pleasure”—ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“The record’s beauty approaches slowly, floats, surrounds and shuts off external awareness in the brain stem.”—THE NEW YORK TIMES

“gracefully, gradually unfolds like the sweetest of sunrises”—PEOPLE

“an instant folk-rock classic… Morning Phase’s struggle toward the light feels as personal as it does universal.”—ROLLING STONE

“a companion to 2002’s Sea Change… Morning Phase conjures the cosmic folk and poetic beauty of that breakup breakthrough with even better results… The mercurial artist has drifted through a variety of intriguing phases, but none as hypnotic or revealing as Morning Phase.”—USA TODAY

Beck’s Morning Phase (Capitol) has entered the US albums chart at #3, selling over 87,000 copies in the week since its February 25 release.

Morning Phase‘s first week tally bests the 84,314 opening week of Beck’s previous album, Modern Guilt, despite the market being down over 70% since that record’s 2008 release.

Morning Phase also debuted #2 in Canada, #4 in the UK, #5 in Australia, Switzerland and The Netherlands, and #8 in New Zealand–all representing Beck’s highest chart positions ever in each country, with the exception of Canada where Morning Phase ties the #2 peak position of 2005’s Guero.

Beck will follow up last week’s triumphant return to Saturday Night Live where he debuted “Blue Moon” and “Wave” on national television with a March 12 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and an April 1 performance on The Ellen Degeneres Show.

BECK SIGNS TO CAPITOL RECORDS; NEW ALBUM MORNING PHASE OUT FEBRUARY 2014

Photo: Peter Hapak

Beck has signed to Capitol Records, who will release his first album of all new material since 2008’s universally acclaimed Modern Guilt in February 2014.

The new record, titled Morning Phase, has been described as a companion piece of sorts to Beck’s 2002 classic Sea Change. Featuring many of the same musicians who played on that record (who are also currently accompanying him live) —Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Joey Waronker, Smokey Hormel, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Jason Falkner — Morning Phase harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism.

Morning Phase caps off a yearlong creative tear that traces back to the December of 2012 release of the lavishly packaged and illustrated Song Reader featuring sheet music for 20 new original Beck songs.  The project quickly took on a life of its own, with musicians from across the globe recording their own interpretations, as well as Beck’s own special shows featuring eclectic lists of co-conspirators putting their own stamp on the compositions. Following that, Beck re-imagined David Bowie’s classic “Sound + Vision” with a hand-selected 160-piece orchestra… culminating with a groundbreaking interactive 360-degree filming of a live performance of the track.  More recently, this summer brought us three rabidly received singles released digitally and on 12-inch vinyl (“Defriended,” “I Won’t Be Long,” Gimme”), and September saw Beck custom-creating two performance pieces for Doug Aitken’s Station to Station series of transient happenings, all interspersed with his current  run of live shows–touted by reviewers the world over as among the very best of his career.

Complete track listing, exact release date, and further information re: Morning Phase will be released as it is confirmed.

BECK: “Gimme” STREAMING ON YOUTUBE

DOUBLE 12″ & DIGITAL SINGLE ON SALE NOW

“Gimme,” the third standalone single Beck’s released this year, is available now at Beck.com.

Once again featuring the unmistakable artwork of Mamma Andersson, the physical version of “Gimme” is a double 12″: Side A features the regular length vocal and instrumental versions of the track, Side B has an extended-length remix, and Side C and Side D contain two halves of a 30-minute extended edit of the track.

Along with the single’s release on Beck’s website, “Gimme” is also able to be embedded via the following code and is now streaming at http://youtu.be/dwn4tK5ySNU.

Embed code: <iframe width=”480″ height=”360″ src=”//www.youtube.com/embed/dwn4tK5ySNU“frameborder=”0” allowfullscreen></iframe>

“Gimme” is preceded by two other singles that Beck released earlier this summer: “Defriended” which prompted ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY to rave “Despite the title, Beck is ready to be your BFF again… with his excellently spaced-out stand-alone summer single,” and “I Won’t Be Long” which moved ROLLING STONE to exclaim “Best news of the summer? Beck’s comeback is officially in full swing.”

Beck has been anything but idle prior to this “comeback”: Currently hard at work one not one but two new albums, Beck has been on a non-stop creative tear since December of 2012, when he released his “Song Reader” book featuring sheet music for 20 unreleased songs.  The project has since taken a life of its own, with musicians from across the globe recording their own interpretations of different songs and uploading them onto the internet. Past that, Beck has performed (and will continue to perform) special shows that include eclectic lists of co-conspirators putting their own stamp on the compositions. Following that, Beck reimagined David Bowie’s classic “Sound + Vision” with a hand-selected 160-piece orchestra…culminating with a groundbreaking interactive 360-degree filming of a live performance of the track.

In addition, Beck has been performing select acoustic and full band electric shows dotting the globe and receiving some of the best live reviews of his storied career. Beck also helped to curate artist Doug Aitken’s traveling “Station To Station” tour featuring dozens of leading underground artists and musicians creating site-specific “happenings” as part of a cross-country train tour. He will perform a custom-created piece at the tour’s stops in Barstow and Los Angeles CA, in September 24 and 26 respectively. See http://stationtostation.com/ for more information.

Beck will round out 2013 with a handful of festival appearances. See below for a list of currently confirmed shows and, as always, remain vigilant.

09/24/13 – Barstow, CA – Station to Station
09/26/13 – Los Angeles, CA – Station to Station

12” SINGLE AVAILABLE NOW FOR PREORDER EXCLUSIVELY AT BECKIWONTBELONG.COM

VINYL AND DIGITAL VERSIONS AVAILABLE JULY 8

First there was “Defriended”…now there is “I Won’t Be Long.” Beck’s second stand-alone single of 2013. As with “Defriended,” there are no current plans for “I Won’t Be Long” to appear on a future album.

Paris was first in line this time. Lucky fans attending Beck’s July 2nd performance at the Cite De La Musique received stickers featuring an image by acclaimed Swedish artist Mamma Andersson. While there was no text on the sticker, a cryptic QR code on the peelaway card led to a YouTube clip featuring Beck’s latest release, “I Won’t Be Long.”

The track is now streaming at http://youtu.be/cLIBuuJnQHg. A limited edition 12” vinyl is now available for pre-order (July 8 release) exclusively via beckiwontbelong.com and features the original track with a special 14:49 extended mix.
