JACK WHITE’S BLUNDERBUSS TOP SELLING VINYL ALBUM OF 2012

Third Man Records in conjunction with Columbia Records is proud to announce that Jack White’s Blunderbuss is the biggest selling vinyl album of 2012 according to Nielsen Soundscan’s vinyl charts with over 33,000 copies sold.

Knocking The Beatles’ Abbey Road” off the top spot (a position it had held the previous three years), Blunderbuss sales are the highest for a new album (not a catalog album) since Soundscan began specifically tracking vinyl in 2008.

White is currently nominated for three Grammys from Blunderbuss, including Album of the Year.

http://www.soundcitymovie.com/

SOUND CITY–REAL TO REEL, the companion album to the Dave Grohl-directed SOUND CITY feature length documentary premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, is now available for pre-order along with SOUND CITY the film at iTunes at http://bit.ly/SoundCityiTunes . All pre-orders for the album, due out March 12, 2013 on Roswell Records, will immediately receive first single “Cut Me Some Slack”–the original studio recording of the track performed by Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear at the historical 12-12-12 benefit as well as on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live holiday episode.

SOUND CITY, the film, was conceived by Grohl after purchasing the legendary custom-built Neve 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios last year. The board, built in 1972, is considered by many to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment, having recorded such artists as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Guns and Roses, Metallica, NIN, Rage Against The Machine and countless other musical legends over the past 40 years.

SOUND CITY–REAL TO REEL is a brand new collection of all-new all-original songs, each one composed and recorded exclusively for the film within its own 24-hour session on that console after it was reinstalled in Grohl and his Foo Fighters’ own 606 Studios. The new tracks–featuring an amazing and idiosyncratic cast of collaborators including Paul McCartney, Grohl’s former Nirvana and current Foo Fighters bandmates, Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, Trent Reznor, Joshua Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Lee Ving of Fear, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford of Rage Against The Machine and more–passionately exemplify SOUND CITY’s celebration of the human element of musicianship and recording in an increasingly digital world.

Following its Sundance 2013 premiere, SOUND CITY will also be released as an HD digital download and stream February 1 via www.soundcitymovie.com. Fans who pre-order the film now will receive instant exclusive rewards followed by a stream and download of the entire film on February 1. The film will also be released theatrically, in association with Variance Films, on February 1.  A list of cities and theaters will be announced shortly.

Grohl’s personal connection to Sound City began with the 1991 recording of Nirvana’s breakthrough album, Nevermind. Selling over 30 million copies worldwide, Nevermind changed the entire musical landscape and forever altered the course of Dave Grohl’s life.

Roswell Films, a division of the Roswell Records label that releases Foo Fighters music, will distribute the film. Key personnel involved with the film include Producer/Director Dave Grohl; Editor Paul Crowder (Dogtown & Z Boys, Once In a Lifetime, Riding Giants); and Writer Mark Monroe (The Cove, Once In a Lifetime, The Tillman Story). The film is also being produced in conjunction with Jim Rota, John Ramsay, and Therapy studios.

Reddit.com ASK ME ANYTHING WITH BOB CONFIRMED FOR MON. DEC. 17  at 1:00 p.m. EST

Speaking of  See A Little Light, the Kickstarter campaign started with the goal of bringing the now legendary See A Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould all-star tribute concert to an audience beyond the lucky 2300 attendees who made it into Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall on November 21, 2011 continues apace at http://kck.st/RPPY19. Currently at 80%, the campaign has been financing the film–from editing and production to bandwidth, packaging, shipping and more–while offering Bob Mould fans exclusive collectibles including a limited edition 7-inch single, a commemorative T-Shirt, a set of prints, and more (our top level package of fender guitars is sold out). JACK WHITE NOMINATED FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR GRAMMY

Three Nominations Total As Blunderbuss Nabs Album of the Year and Best Rock Album Noms, and “Freedom at 21” Receives Best Rock Song Nod

Six-time Grammy winner Jack White has been nominated in three categories in the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards, including the evening’s highest honor, the Album of the Year.

In addition to Album of the Year,  Blunderbuss is also nominated for Best Rock Album, while “Freedom at 21” has been nominated for Best Rock Song.

The three new Grammy nominations, in addition to White’s previous 15 nominations, bring his career total to 18. White has previously earned six Grammys for his work with the White Stripes and the Raconteurs. This is his second Album of the Year nomination, the first having been the White Stripes’ Elephant in 2003.

The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on CBS at 8 pm ET/PT on February 10th, 2013.

The three new Grammy nominations round off an exceptional year for Jack White, beginning with the first U.S. #1 album of his distinguished career, as Blunderbuss debuted at the top of the charts in the U.S., UK, Canada and Switzerland.  Blunderbuss was also supported by a rapturously received world tour featuring all-male backing band The Buzzards and all-female backing band The Peacocks. At press time, the album has just begun to tear up Best of 2012 lists, including being named MOJO’s #1 album of the year.

JACK WHITE ISSUES STATEMENT CORRECTING NME MIS-QUOTE: “I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT HER MUSIC OR QUESTIONED THE AUTHENTICITY OF HER SONGS IN ANY WAY.”

Jack White has issued the following statement to correct an excerpt from his upcoming cover story in British Esquire that was taken completely out of context–and actually edited to change its original meaning–in an NME.com news post.

The original quote referred to the state of image-based celebrity in general was twisted by the NME who changed the original quote, tacking the words “Lady Gaga’s music” on to the original quote–words Jack never actually said.

White commented in full:

I’d like to address the recent tabloidesque drama baiting by the press in regards to Lady Gaga. I never said anything about her music, or questioned the authenticity of her songs in any way. I was in a conversation about the drawbacks of image for the sake of image, and that it is popular nowadays to not question an image in front of you, but only to label it as “cool” or “weird” quickly and dispose of it.  I don’t like my comments about Lady Gaga’s presentation being changed into some sort of negative critique of her music.  If you’re going to try to cause drama, at least get the quotes right.  I think journalists should also be held accountable for what they say.  Especially publications like the NME who put whatever words they feel like between two quotation marks and play it off as a quote.  maybe somebody with more lawyers can take them to task, but I’ll just use the internet and twitter instead.   I also think that kind of tabloid drama encourages artists to not express their opinions in the press, and instead give polite soundbites that don’t stimulate thought about creativity and the consumption of art in its many guises. Peace to lady gaga and I fully congratulate and compliment her on her championing of gay rights issues and the momentum it’s given to help create change.

Thank you.
