Monotone, Inc. and Search Party Music form new music initiative, “The Combination Project”

There has never been a more opportune time for agile and alert music companies to create and channel music and music-driven content. That is the conclusion drawn by a pair of today’s most creative entertainment business executives, when film, television and advertising music supervisor Randall Poster’s Search Party Music and talent manager Ian Montone’s Monotone, Inc. announced the formation of The Combination Project; a one stop shop for joining great music to dynamic visuals.

The Combination Project will fully integrate Monotone’s artist roster with Search Party’s music supervision, commercial and integrated media clients. Under the new company, Monotone’s catalog of music will be centralized in one place so Search Party clients can easily access and license music for projects, as well as work with the new company to create original music and music driven content.

Search Party has its headquarters New York and in Portland, where Managing Director Sara Matarazzo will oversee the venture.

Poster, who has served as a music supervisor for all of director Wes Anderson’s films over his two-decade-long career, and counts directors Martin Scorsese, Richard Linklater, Todd Phillips and Sam Mendes among his regular confederates, has taken Search Party to the forefront of the commercial and branded arenas, providing music and creative on TV commercial campaigns for Nike, Google, Target, Old Navy, Budweiser and American Express, among others, looks to the partnership to create opportunities for both companies.

Says Montone “Our artists have always been inspired by Film and TV and have a deep respect for the creators who understand the art of great story telling. As a management company, we are always looking for opportunities to tie our artist’s music with great visual art. Over the last 5 years, Monotone and Search Party have built a great working relationship.  In a very crowded marketplace, partnering with Search Party creates one roof with a diverse catalog of exceptional music being handled by a company who intimately understands the vision of our artists and has proven to be the go-to agency for the greatest content creators and brands of our day.”

“This is the wave of the future” says Poster. “Getting artists involved in a much earlier phase of the creative process in a collaborative manner. Artist’s like Jack White and Danger Mouse have demonstrated an insight and genius for building visual imagery around music and we want to broaden the scope of their ingenuity.”

Search Party founder and Chief Creative Officer Randall Poster is the go-to soundtrack maestro for many of the world’s most creative and musically adventurous filmmakers. He started music supervising on Larry Clark’s hit 1996 film Kids and has since become a key collaborator for several high-profile directors working in both independent and commercial cinema. Poster has created acclaimed musical identities for all of director Wes Anderson’s films, including Fantastic Mr. Fox and the current Moonrise Kingdom, Todd Phillips’ The Hangover Part II, producer Martin Scorsese and creator Terrence Winter’s HBO series Boardwalk Empire and the Todd Haynes-directed miniseries Mildred Pierce. Poster produced the critically acclaimed Buddy Holly tribute, Rave On… and the recent Fleetwood Mac homage, Just Tell Me That You Want Me, both for Hear Music/Concord. He also recently co-produced the LCD Soundsystem documentary, Shut Up and Play the Hits. His commercial campaigns includes Nike’s “Find Your Greatness,” a Muppets spot for Google, Old Navy, Target, Reading is Fundamental PSAs, a Hyundai commercial directed by Wes Anderson, J Crew, American Express, Brooks Brothers and Budweiser, among others.

Ian Montone is the founder of the music management company Monotone, Inc. and co-founder of the media and production group LBI Entertainment. Monotone, Inc.’s clients include Jack White, The White Stripes, Foster the People, The Shins, Vampire Weekend, Danger Mouse, James Murphy, The Dead Weather, Ratatat, Broken Bells, The Raconteurs, Cold War Kids, Pete Yorn, among others. Under the aegis of LBI Entertainment, Montone, along with his partner Rick Yorn, manages the careers of Jude Law and Jamie Foxx. Before founding Monotone, Inc., Montone was a partner at the law firm of Davis, Shapiro, Lewit & Hayes, LLP, focusing on music and entertainment.

ELECTRIC GUEST ON LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON NOVEMBER 14

HOLIDAY 7-INCH VINYL IN STORES TODAY

Electric Guest has confirmed a November 14 appearance on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The band’s first ever Fallon performance marks the band’s return to New York weeks after its sold out show at NYC’s Irving Plaza and follows the November 6 traditional release of its three-song Holiday EP (Downtown), previously released digitally on October 22.

The Holiday EP now available on 7″ vinyl features the non-LP title track as well as acoustic versions of two tracks from Electric Guest’s acclaimed debut album Mondo: the smash single “This Head I Hold” and the anthemic “Awake”.

Electric Guest is comprised of Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton plus a supporting cast of live players. The band began in earnest when Asa’s brother introduced him via phone to Danger Mouse, sparking a musical relationship that developed organically into Danger Mouse producing the 10 songs that were unveiled to the world this April as Mondo. Since then Electric Guest has toured relentlessly, been hailed by MTV as an Artist to Watch, been nominated for an MTVu Woodie, and had its praises sung by ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY (“Winking falsetto and retro swagger… the best new micro-genre of the season”), FILTER (“infectious”), NYLON (“for a quick Friday night pump-up… turn up the volume”),  TIME OUT NEW YORK (“exquisitely catchy retropop. The band is quickly moving toward mainstream status… catch them while you can”), BLACKBOOK (“it’s rare that you come across an unknown band with such raw, unbridled talent and well-constructed songs… you’ll understand that this may be the beginning of something truly great”), MTV BUZZWORTHY (“Electric Guest stormed out of L.A. this year with a sound that’s both Motown classic and electro fresh on their debut album… Clear off your desk, you’re going to need some room to move.”) and scores more.

BAND OF HORSES TO PLAY 2 NEW YORK SHOWS IN ONE DAY

DECEMBER 11 AT HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM & GRAND BALLROOM

Band of Horses will indulge each of the polar opposites of the band’s musical identity–a range described in the new Rolling Stone Hot List as “pure Southern California harmonies” to “fuzz-drenched frenzy”–with a very special one-time-only two shows in one night event December 11 at New York City’s Manhattan Center.

BoH’s very own NYC marathon will begin with a 7:00 p.m. special acoustic performance in the intimate confines of the Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom, after which the band will move to the building’s considerably larger Hammerstein Ballroom for a full-on electric set, with support provided by special guest Jason Lytle.

Pre-sales for both shows begin 10:00 a.m. EST on Wednesday, October 17. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, October 19. Keep an eye on www.bandofhorses.com for further details.

The NYC doubleheader is the latest in an ongoing frenzy of activity in the wake of the September 18 release of Mirage Rock (Brown/Columbia). Recent BoH highlights have included an appearance at the Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park that concluded in an all star jam featuring the band alongside Neil Young, Foo Fighters, Black Keys and more, while upcoming events include a November UK/Europe tour, and the recently announced U.S. headline dates running through December 15 at The National in Richmond VA.

THIRD MAN RECORDS Presents: VAULT PACKAGE #14

JACK WHITE LIVE AT THIRD MAN RECORDS DOUBLE LP

JACK WHITE FREEDOM AT 21 B/W LOVE INTERRUPTION & HYPOCRITICAL KISS DEMO 7″

SHARK INFESTED SODA FOUNTAIN (THE DEAD WEATHER PHOTO BOOK)

www.thirdmanrecords.com

http://thirdmanrecords.com/vault/

Third Man Records having a banner year in 2012–the label’s three year anniversary, Jack White’s Blunderbuss being released and quickly becoming the first #1 album of his career, the runaway success of the Blunderbuss tour featuring Jack’s two bands The Peacocks and The Buzzards, the label’s physical (and metaphysical) expansion… The milestones just keep coming. And Vault package #14 is no exception:

JACK WHITE LIVE AT THIRD MAN RECORDS DOUBLE LP

The LP for this quarter will be a double album recording of Jack’s live show, and solo debut, at Third Man Records from our 3 Year Anniversary Party on March 8th of this year. LP one takes in the set with the band of all lovely ladies, The Peacocks, backing him up and LP two is the second set featuring The Buzzards. This is a fantastic and historical live document of Jack White and two fiery backing bands riding off the celebratory high spirits of the evening. The set featured classics from throughout Jack’s career alongside plenty of songs from Blunderbuss, which were heard for the first time that night for many. The LPs come housed in amazing packaging which will be a first for TMR… a Lenticular gatefold cover! For those of you who may not be well versed in multiple dimensions, the Lenticular cover will show two separate images, in one. What you see depends on how the record is held or from which angle it’s viewed. The LPs, of course, will be pressed on split color Black & Blue vinyl.

JACK WHITE FREEDOM AT 21 B/W LOVE INTERRUPTION & HYPOCRITICAL KISS DEMO 7″

The 7″ for this package is very special indeed: Three Jack White bursts of inspiration captured in the moment only to be fleshed out in the studio later with a full backing band. These recordings were done on Jack’s trusty field recorder, and give an intimate glimpse into his recording and songwriting process. The 7″ of demos of Freedom At 21 B/W Love Interruption and Hypocritical Kiss will be pressed on signature Jack White Blunderbluevinyl.

BABY RUTHLESS SHARK INFESTED SODA FOUNTAIN

The third item in this package is yet another first: The debut of the Third Man Books imprint. After the most recent Dead Weather tour in 2010, Alison Mosshart self published a book titled Shark Infested Soda Fountain of her photos compiled from their adventures on the road as a gift to the other members of the band. Beyond every page being packed with beautiful ethereal photographs, when viewed as a complete work the book is a touching and one of a kind document to the unique love and camaraderie of the Dead Weather and the cast of characters that surrounded them in their international travels. Alison has been kind enough to allow the book to be re-printed in its entirety and shares with the members of The Vault.

If you’re not already a Vault member, sign up by October 31st in order to qualify for this package at:

TICKETS ON SALE NOW AT THIRD MAN RECORDS AND AT thirdmanrecords.com

The Shins will take a detour from a headlining theater and festival tour in support of the critically acclaimed Port of Morrow (Aural Apothecary/Columbia) that has taken them everywhere from tonight’s show at Los Angeles’ Gibson Amphitheater to Colorado’s Red Rocks, Lollapalooza, Saturday Night Live and more… to play an extremely rare and close-up intimate show at Third Man Records’ Blue Room. Support will come from Low Cut Connie, whose new album Sylvia is already eliciting rave reviews from Rolling Stone.

The public unveiling of the new Third Man Records complex will also feature the debut of the new patio, with hot dogs and burgers (and veggie options) available during the day – but more about the patio in a minute. The occasion will also be commemorated with a limited edition Public Nuisance re-issue available in the shop that morning from opening hours (11am). The limited edition Public Nuisance reissue is the second ever Triple Decker Vinyl ever made a/k/a The White Wall Triple Decker. 100 of these will be made available on October 6th (50 from the shop and 50 from The Third Man Rolling Record Store). OCTOBER 10th
The Kills with Two Tears

Third Man has been itching to present this show since day Numero Uno. Jamie and Alison are two of the most talented and creative people in the extended Third Man Records family. Come October 10, they’ll finally rock the Blue Room stage and commit the show to wax for the first ever TMR release by the one and only KILLS. If that isn’t exciting enough, word on the street is that they’re bringing the Black Rooster Drum Corp along with them. Opening the show will be two piece rock n rollers, Two Tears.

OCTOBER 23rd
Films of Olivia Wyatt
Staring Into The Sun and The Pierced Heart & The Machete

On the 23rd, Third Man will showcase Rockaway Beach NY based filmmaker and photographer Olivia Wyatt, who will be in attendance for the only Nashville screening of two of her modern day ethno-folk cinema classics released by the fantastic record label and collective, Sublime Frequencies. Staring Into The Sun Olivia explores 13 different tribes throughout Ethiopia and takes in Zar spirit possession, Hamer tribal wedding ceremonies, wild hyena feedings and more in a blend of ethereal images, landscapes and sounds from the horn of Africa. The Pierced Heart And The Machete is a film exploring two Haitian Vodou religious pilgrimages that take place each year in mid-July. Both of these culturally  and musically rich films are exactly the sort of front line and important sort of presentations that mean so much to the folks at Third Man.

OCTOBER 26th
Seasick Steve with Promised Land

The dog Hisself joins us at Third Man for a rare Stateside live appearance. Third Man is beyond pleased to have old pal Seasick Steve–whose Third Man discography includes the You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks album and “Write Me A Few Lines”/”Levee Camp Blues” single–back to Nashville to play a live show. Nobody, but nobody, rocks a Diddley Bow like Seasick Steve. This is a must-see rare live appearance from one of the greatest showmen working today.

Promised Land is a new-ish band from Nashville that mines the best from the Flying Burrito Brothers and The Band  and we know everyone is gonna love em.

The Shins, The Kills and Seasick Steve performances will all be recorded for Live At Third Man LPs, and Promised Land will be recorded for a live 45. Limited Edition Black & Blue split color vinyl Pre-Sales will be available for attendees only after each individual show.

As for those upgrades…

The October 6 Shins show will unveil TMR’s newly installed record cutting lathe and vinyl mastering suite, which fans will be able to view from inside the Blue Room. The live experience will be enhanced as fans will not only be able to watch the live show but will also be able to see the show being recorded, mixed and mastered LIVE to an acetate disc via the viewing window and a two camera monitor system. This makes Third Man this the ONLY live to acetate venue in the world.

Additionally, Third Man Records’ lathe was once in residence at King Records in Cincinnati, meaning records by the likes of James Brown, Hank Ballard, Charlie Feathers or any number of incredible artists could have been cut on this machine back in its heyday. Possibly even the original ‘I’m Shakin'” by Little Willie John. All TMR headline acts in October will be recorded using this new system.

TMR’s expansion into a third building next door also means that public restrooms will be available for attendees of these events in the Blue Room. To find the new restrooms, you just cross right over the new covered wooden patio.

In addition, The Rolling Record Store now has its very own Batcave, and while not all can be revealed at this time (or ever–there have to be some things kept secret), the attached photos are evidence that no detail has been spared in the creation on this aesthetically sublime yellow tinted wonderland.
