OCTOBER 6th
Grand Re-Opening with The Shins and Low Cut Connie–plus Public Nuisance Reissue
TICKETS ON SALE NOW AT THIRD MAN RECORDS AND AT thirdmanrecords.com

The Shins will take a detour from a headlining theater and festival tour in support of the critically acclaimed Port of Morrow (Aural Apothecary/Columbia) that has taken them everywhere from tonight’s show at Los Angeles’ Gibson Amphitheater to Colorado’s Red Rocks, Lollapalooza, Saturday Night Live and more… to play an extremely rare and close-up intimate show at Third Man Records’ Blue Room. Support will come from Low Cut Connie, whose new album Sylvia is already eliciting rave reviews from Rolling Stone.

The public unveiling of the new Third Man Records complex will also feature the debut of the new patio, with hot dogs and burgers (and veggie options) available during the day – but more about the patio in a minute. The occasion will also be commemorated with a limited edition Public Nuisance re-issue available in the shop that morning from opening hours (11am). The limited edition Public Nuisance reissue is the second ever Triple Decker Vinyl ever made a/k/a The White Wall Triple Decker. 100 of these will be made available on October 6th (50 from the shop and 50 from The Third Man Rolling Record Store). Additionally, another 100 will be available via the Rolling Record Store later in the month when it hits Richmond, Northampton, Philadelphia and New York City. More information on that later.

OCTOBER 10th
The Kills with Two Tears

Third Man has been itching to present this show since day Numero Uno. Jamie and Alison are two of the most talented and creative people in the extended Third Man Records family. Come October 10, they’ll finally rock the Blue Room stage and commit the show to wax for the first ever TMR release by the one and only KILLS. If that isn’t exciting enough, word on the street is that they’re bringing the Black Rooster Drum Corp along with them. Opening the show will be two piece rock n rollers, Two Tears.

OCTOBER 23rd
Films of Olivia Wyatt
Staring Into The Sun and The Pierced Heart & The Machete

On the 23rd, Third Man will showcase Rockaway Beach NY based filmmaker and photographer Olivia Wyatt, who will be in attendance for the only Nashville screening of two of her modern day ethno-folk cinema classics released by the fantastic record label and collective, Sublime Frequencies. Staring Into The Sun Olivia explores 13 different tribes throughout Ethiopia and takes in Zar spirit possession, Hamer tribal wedding ceremonies, wild hyena feedings and more in a blend of ethereal images, landscapes and sounds from the horn of Africa. The Pierced Heart And The Machete is a film exploring two Haitian Vodou religious pilgrimages that take place each year in mid-July. Both of these culturally  and musically rich films are exactly the sort of front line and important sort of presentations that mean so much to the folks at Third Man.

OCTOBER 26th
Seasick Steve with Promised Land

The dog Hisself joins us at Third Man for a rare Stateside live appearance. Third Man is beyond pleased to have old pal Seasick Steve–whose Third Man discography includes the You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks album and “Write Me A Few Lines”/”Levee Camp Blues” single–back to Nashville to play a live show. Nobody, but nobody, rocks a Diddley Bow like Seasick Steve. This is a must-see rare live appearance from one of the greatest showmen working today.

Promised Land is a new-ish band from Nashville that mines the best from the Flying Burrito Brothers and The Band  and we know everyone is gonna love em.

The Shins, The Kills and Seasick Steve performances will all be recorded for Live At Third Man LPs, and Promised Land will be recorded for a live 45. Limited Edition Black & Blue split color vinyl Pre-Sales will be available for attendees only after each individual show.

As for those upgrades…

The October 6 Shins show will unveil TMR’s newly installed record cutting lathe and vinyl mastering suite, which fans will be able to view from inside the Blue Room. The live experience will be enhanced as fans will not only be able to watch the live show but will also be able to see the show being recorded, mixed and mastered LIVE to an acetate disc via the viewing window and a two camera monitor system. This makes Third Man this the ONLY live to acetate venue in the world.

Additionally, Third Man Records’ lathe was once in residence at King Records in Cincinnati, meaning records by the likes of James Brown, Hank Ballard, Charlie Feathers or any number of incredible artists could have been cut on this machine back in its heyday. Possibly even the original ‘I’m Shakin'” by Little Willie John. All TMR headline acts in October will be recorded using this new system.

TMR’s expansion into a third building next door also means that public restrooms will be available for attendees of these events in the Blue Room. To find the new restrooms, you just cross right over the new covered wooden patio.

In addition, The Rolling Record Store now has its very own Batcave, and while not all can be revealed at this time (or ever–there have to be some things kept secret), the attached photos are evidence that no detail has been spared in the creation on this aesthetically sublime yellow tinted wonderland.

A Letter From Dave Grohl

Hey everyone…

Dave here. Just wanted to write and thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for another incredible year. (Our 18th, to be exact!) We truly never could have done any of this without you…

Never in my wildest dreams did I think Foo Fighters would make it this far. I never thought we COULD make it this far, to be honest. There were times when I didn’t think the band would survive. There were times when I wanted to give up. But… I can’t give up this band. And I never will. Because it’s not just a band to me. It’s my life. It’s my family. It’s my world.

Yes… I was serious. I’m not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it’s a good thing for all of us to go away for a while. It’s one of the reasons we’re still here. Make sense? I never want to NOT be in this band. So, sometimes it’s good to just… put it back in the garage for a while…

But, no gold watches or vacations just yet… I’ll be focusing all of my energy on finishing up my Sound City documentary film and album for worldwide release in the very near future. A year in the making, it could be the biggest, most important project I’ve ever worked on. Get ready… it’s coming.

Me, Taylor, Nate, Pat, Chris, and Rami… I’m sure we’ll all see you out there… somewhere…

Thank you, thank you, thank you…

Dave

Electric Guest will begin selling a Three-song EP featuring brand new title track “Holiday” exclusively at shows on the band’s upcoming U.S. headline tour, which begins October 16 at the Black Cat in Washington DC and concludes November 4 at the El Rey Theater in the band’s homebase of Los Angeles, with stops in New York City’s Irving Plaza, Chicago’s Lincoln Hall, and more.

The Holiday EP will be released by Downtown Records and will be available for purchase at digital retailers on October 22, and physically and on 7″ vinyl on November 6.  In the meantime, the non-LP title track can be streamed athttp://soundcloud.com/electricguest/holiday and also features acoustic versions of their hit single “This Head I Hold” and the anthemic “Awake”.

Electric Guest’s fall tour follows in the wake of numerous well-received summer festival dates and its current UK/Europe tour, which concludes October 2 in London. Meanwhile, “This Head I Hold,” the smash single from the band’s debut album Mondo, continues its climb into the six-figure sales strata. An acoustic version of the “This Head I Hold” is available for download gratis at electricguest.com.

Electric Guest is comprised of Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton plus a supporting cast of live band members. The band began in earnest when Asa’s brother introduced him via phone to Danger Mouse, sparking a musical relationship that developed organically into Danger Mouse producing the 10 songs that were unveiled to the world this April as Mondo. Since then Electric Guest has toured relentlessly, been hailed by MTV as an Artist to Watch and nominated for an MTVu Woodie, and had its praises sung by ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY (“Winking falsetto and retro swagger… the best new micro-genre of the season”), FILTER (“infectious”), NYLON (“for a quick Friday night pump-up… turn up the volume”),  TIME OUT NEW YORK (“exquisitely catchy retropop. The band is quickly moving toward mainstream status… catch them while you can”), BLACKBOOK (“it’s rare that you come across an unknown band with such raw, unbridled talent and well-constructed songs… you’ll understand that this may be the beginning of something truly great”), MTV BUZZWORTHY (“Electric Guest stormed out of L.A. this year with a sound that’s both Motown classic and electro fresh on their debut album… Clear off your desk, you’re going to need some room to move.”) and scores more.

After four triumphant releases, and no matter where they go, it’s clear we can trust Band of Horses, one of America’s biggest and best rock and roll bands, to deliver.”–FILTER

Fresh off a whirlwind of activity surrounding the September 18 release of Mirage Rock (Brown/Columbia) including appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman (http://youtu.be/T_FKnnhum5s), Conan (http://youtu.be/2qGoPHHJzBI), sets on Live on Letterman and KCRW’s Berkeley Street Sessions and more, Band of Horses have confirmed a half dozen more North American headline dates. The new dates will follow the band’s appearance this weekend at the Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park, an upcoming run on the Railroad Revival tour with Willie Nelson, and a November UK/Europe tour, and will run from December 3 at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor MI and wrapping December 15 at The National in Richmond VA.

Tickets for the six newly confirmed shows are on sale beginning Friday September 28. For specifics, check bandofhorses.com.

Reaction to Band of Horses’ Glyn Johns’ produced fourth album Mirage Rock has been overwhelmingly positive, with ROLLING STONE lauding first single “Knock Knock” as having “more going on under the hood than usual, implying the band’s upcoming LP will be its most rocking yet,” while ESQUIRE recently hailed ballad “Slow Cruel Hands Of Time” as a “perfectly sung warning against looking too far back… everything that’s great about Band of Horses in one easy ballad.”

PAUL McCARTNEY: LIVE KISSES

Paul McCartney – Live Kisses

Relive The Magic Of One Of Paul’s Most Intimate Concerts Ever As He Performs Standards From His Critically Acclaimed Album ‘Kisses On The Bottom’

Your Chance To Own on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Video November 13th 2012

Package includes spectacular concert footage with a cast of top-flight musicians, exclusive promo videos directed by Paul himself, behind the scenes interviews and a 40 page hardback book featuring an extensive collection of photographs from the event and rehearsals

November 13th will see the release of ‘Live Kisses’ – a stunning 13-song film, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, that captures the magic of an extraordinary evening in February of this year.  In the intimate surroundings of Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, where Paul recorded much of his ‘Kisses On The Bottom’ album, he was reunited with the all-star musicians who joined him on the record to bring the songs to life for a once in a lifetime performance.

This was a concert unlike any Paul had given before.  Without his famous Höfner bass in hand or in fact any musical instruments, Paul took his place behind the same microphone that has captured some of the most iconic voices in history to focus on his vocal delivery as he led the assembled A-list group of musicians through a collection of the standards he grew up listening to in his childhood, as well as his own original composition ‘My Valentine’.

Streamed live to the world online, ‘Live Kisses’ marked the launch of Paul’s ‘Kisses On The Bottom’ album.  The film tells the story of how, with the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma, Diana Krall and her band, Paul created a critically acclaimed album, which featured guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder. The record represents a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home. Upon its release ‘Kisses…’ topped the US Billboard Jazz album chart at number 1, as well as charting top 5 all around the world.

On the night the all-star line up were reunited to include musical director Diana Krall (piano), John Clayton (bass), Karriem Riggins (drums), John Pizzarelli (guitar), Anthony Wilson (guitar), Mike Mainieri (vibraphone) and conductor Alan Broadbent.  Tommy LiPuma and Al Schmitt resumed their roles in the studio and special guest musicians on the evening included Abe Laboriel Jr (from Paul’s touring band) on backing vocals and Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh.  Walsh performed the ‘My Valentine’ guitar solo originally recorded by Eric Clapton on the studio album.

The concert was performed just hours after Paul brought Vine Street in L.A. to a standstill as he was presented with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Capitol Records Building. The night of the concert (February 9th) was also the 48th anniversary of The Beatles’ U.S. TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Bonus ‘Live Kisses’ material includes six versions of the ‘My Valentine’ music video, directed by Paul and starring Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman as well as a ‘Making My Valentine’ film.  There are also two short films with behind the scenes footage filmed at the Mary McCartney album photoshoot for ‘Kisses On The Bottom’.  The final extra is an interview with Paul and producer Tommy LiPuma talking about the story of the album, its conception and creation.

‘Live Kisses’ is an intimate and charming concert film which offers an insight into the music and songwriters that inspired Paul to go on to become the most successful songwriter and performer in modern history.  Beautifully presented, ‘Live Kisses’ comes with a 40-page hardback book containing photographs from the day itself, including the rehearsals.

Note To Editors:

 In the same week as recording ‘Live Kisses’, Paul was also honoured as the MusiCares Person of the Year at a gala featuring a stellar line up including Coldplay, Neil Young, Katy Perry and Foo Fighters, who all paid tribute to Paul by performing versions of their favourite McCartney compositions.

 To top off an incredibly special week Paul performed twice at the Grammys as well as winning an award himself.  He brought the show to a close with a superstar jam, having invited Joe Walsh, Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen to join him on stage.

BOB MOULD: SILVER AGE DEBUTS AT #50 ON TOP 200

SILVER AGE/COPPER BLUE TOUR CONTINUES WITH SOLD OUT CHICAGO SHOW

Spurred by rave reviews, a blistering performance of “The Descent” on The Late Show With David Letterman and more, Bob Mould’s new Silver Age (Merge) has crashed into the Billboard 200 at #50, selling nearly 7000 units in the week since its September 4 release and marking Bob’s highest chart debut since Sugar’s File Under: Easy Listening nearly 20 years ago.

Bob’s current Silver Age/Copper Blue tour is faring similarly well, resuming tomorrow with a two-night stand at Chicago’s Metro, the first of which has sold out in advance. Bob is backed on the tour by drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk, The Mountain Goats) and bassist Jason Narducy (Split Single, Verbow), both of whom recorded Silver Age with him.

In addition to its strong chart debut, Silver Age continues to generate some of the best critical notices of Bob’s storied career, some of the latest including:

“Mould’s ninth studio album isn’t merely for die-hards and apologists. This is all brawny guitars, power-pop melodies and unflagging drums.”–THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

“a brisk power-trio album that compresses 10 tracks into 38 no-time-to-mess-around minutes… It’s acerbic, anthemic and fiesty, as if Mould were tapping his countless disciples, from Foo Fighters to No Age, on the shoulder before throwing a knockout punch.”–THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“while there is much to admire about Mould’s penchant for taking risks and shifting creative course, no fan would complain if he simply delivered euphoric power-pop knockouts like ‘The Descent‘, ‘Briefest Moment’, and ‘Keep Believing’ in perpetuity… as a showcase of a seasoned master in his element, Silver Age’s bounty of direct, distorto-pop hits measures up to Mould’s gold standard.”–PITCHFORK

“his most thunderous, unrelenting and immensely satisfying new album in decades. Silver Age” packs the visceral punch of prime Hüsker Dü, the sugar rush hooks of Mould’s early-’90s albums with Sugar and the introspection of his underrated solo work… The greatest thing about Silver Age, besides the fact that it exists, and there’s not a bad song on it, is that it’s the sort of album veterans like the now-51-year-old Mould usually don’t make anymore… Silver Age isn’t just one of the great rock records of the year. It’s like seeing a ghost.”–THE WASHINGTON POST

All Silver Age/Copper Blue headline dates feature Bob celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sugar’s Copper Blue by playing it front to back, as well showcasing the new Silver Age material alongside an ever-changing grab bag of Husker Du, Sugar and Mould solo classics. The tour will continue through an October 30 headline date at Los Angeles’ famed El Rey Theater, after which Bob and the band will play a November 2 Copper Blue set at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin TX.
