U2 Perform at the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards

U2 Perform at the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards

“Blessed are the Shithole Countries, for they gave us the American Dream”
 Bono during U2’s GRAMMY performance

New York, NY — 46-time GRAMMY nominees and 22-time winners—the most of any rock band—U2 performed this evening at the 60th Annual GRAMMY awards.

Bono and The Edge of U2 began music’s biggest night alongside 2018 Album of the Year nominee Kendrick Lamar, contributing guitar and vocals to “XXX” from Lamar’s DAMN, which garnered seven nominations and five wins this year.

Bono and The Edge were later joined by Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen for a visually stunning performance of “Get Out Of Your Own fun Way” staged on a barge in New York Harbor under the gaze of the Statue of Liberty.

“Get Out Of Your Own Way” features lyrics written by Bono for his daughters and has since been adopted by many as a human rights anthem. Tonight the song found new resonance played under the watchful eyes of Omaima, the teenaged Syrian refugee who graced U2’s stage on the Joshua Tree 2017 tour as part of a powerful film created by the artist JR.

U2 were introduced by Latin GRAMMY award winner Camila Cabello, who reminded us that America is a country Built by Dreamers, for Dreamers, chasing the American Dream, by reciting the “lines of world-wide welcome” from Emma Lazarus’ The New Colossus.

Watch the whole performance here.

Finally the singer and guitarist of the only group to win Album of the Year twice—in 1988 for The Joshua Tree and in 2006 for How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb—Bono and The Edge were proud to present the award for Album of the Year to winner Bruno Mars.

“Run,” the summer 2017 smash first single from Foo Fighters’ international #1 album Concrete and Gold (Roswell Records/RCA Records) took home the statue for Best Rock Song at the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards in New York City.

The Best Rock Song win for “Run” brings Foo Fighters’ career GRAMMY total to an even dozen. The Best Rock Song victory for “Run”  is the band’s second in the category, following “Walk” taking the honor at the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

The opening salvo from Concrete and Gold, “Run” was released without warning June 1, 2017. Receiving more than 2 million YouTube views in its first 24 hours, and smashing into the top 5 of the iTunes video chart and the top 15 of the iTunes singles chart, “Run” instantly amassed the highest first-day numbers of any Foo Fighters single. The Billboard Mainstream Rock #1 track has quickly become a live favorite as well, sparking monster singalongs as Foo Fighters Concrete and Gold stadium/arena tour continues to sell out and add dates worldwide.

Released September 1, 2017 on Columbia Records/DFA, AMERICAN DREAM entered the U.S. chart at #1 and has been nominated for two GRAMMY Awards–Best Alternative Album and Best Dance Recording (for the song “tonite”)—and has generated a tide of year-end best of lists and accolades, including:

“James Murphy gathers his old gang of New York punk-funk virtuosos together for some truly festive paranoia… the music crackles with the joy of communal celebration”—ROLLING STONE #5 50 Best Albums of 2017

“Both tongue-in-cheek and confessional, finding new space for sincere reflection… American Dream proves some acts are better together.”—TIME Top 10 Albums of 2017

“As fresh and vital as they’d ever been—not just older but wiser too, with a new strain of wit and tenderness thrumming beneath their strobelit dreams.”—ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY #6 Best Albums of 2017

“Songs this good would’ve been enough to justify LCD’s controversial resurrection. Yet Murphy imbues the new music with a weight that makes the convincing argument that he has a lot more to say, and that it won’t be in the tone we might’ve expected.”—STEREOGUM #9 50 Best Albums of 2017

“Still the most aware, and self-aware, artist in alt-rock… a perfect offering to the spirit of the Thin White Duke and evidence of Murphy’s continued artistic vitality as a no-longer-young American.”—BILLBOARD 50 Best Albums of 2017

“No one does disco neurosis like Murphy… Murphy’s most intensely personal songs to date… burn with unusually candid intensity… a welcome return”—AV CLUB Best Albums of 2017

“The guy’s mission is to make neurosis danceable, and Dream is mission achieved… funky, expansive and imbued with a strange sadness, frequently within the confines of the same six-minute track.”—NEWSWEEK #7 17 Best Albums of 2017

“American Dream is a beautiful work of art about aging, regret and an arduous search for meaning, an expansive record that explores a variety of sounds and themes, but it never feels confused or lost.”—PASTE #8 50 Best Albums of 2017

“Classic LCD: No one does rock’n’roll disco better… so worth the wait, and such a relief to hear.”—PITCHFORK #12 50 Best Albums of 2017

“With an honest, powerful record like this, LCD only further cemented their spot as dance rock’s best friend.”—CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND Top 50 Albums of 2017

“A spectacular comeback that shatters even the most optimistic expectations.”—POPMATTERS #5 60 Best Albums of 2017

Tickets for the new dates are on sale to the public as of  Friday, January 26 at 9am Local Time (* with the exception of Detroit, which goes on sale Thursday, January 25 at 11am local time).

The tireless Foo Fighters have just begun 2018 in style, with their just-underway stadium tour of Australia and New Zealand. The first U.S. leg of the Concrete and Gold Tour wound down 2017 by storming through sold out arenas in Richmond, Greensboro, Cincinnati, Sioux Falls and more, with Foo Fighters consistently reaching new peaks of their estimable powers: The Herald Whig in Champaign IL raved “the energy didn’t slow down at all during the near-three-hour set… If you get the chance, make sure you don’t miss out. You won’t regret it,” and the Argus Leader called the Foos’ first Sioux Falls appearance in decades “musical genius,” reporting that the band “blew away the crowd… pulling off a performance no one in the audience will forget… delivered the classic rock concert their fans know and love.”

For further updates on the 2018 Concrete and Gold Tour, continue to check www.foofighters.com.

Foo Fighters are Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear and Rami Jaffee.

U2: Broken Fingaz Crew Create Ominous Animated Video for “Get Out Of Your Own Way”

Broken Fingaz Crew Create Ominous Animated Video for U2’s “Get Out Of Your Own Way”

Broken Fingaz Crew, the fearless Israeli graffiti collective whose provocative, groundbreaking and often disturbing fluorescent sketches were among the first street art in their native Haifa, have directed U2’s new video for “Get Out Of Your Own Way.” Broken Fingaz Crew’s animated realization of the song can be viewed here.

Known only by the pseudonyms that preserve their anonymity with local authorities–Unga, Tant, Kip and Desco—the enigmatic Broken Fingaz Crew approached U2 with the concept of an animated visualization of the second single from the band’s new Songs of Experience. After a successful collaboration on U2’s video for “American Soul,” the band were inspired to give Broken Fingaz Crew full creative control based on their impassioned interpretation of “Get Out Of Your Own Way.” The result reaffirms Broken Fingaz Crew’s standing as artistic and social pioneers emerging from an underground of their own creation.

Broken Fingaz Crew described the mission statement of their  “Get Out Of Your Own Way” video as follows:

“The video addresses the current political situation: 2017 for us was the year fascists worldwide felt confident enough to raise their heads again, encouraged by Trump and other world leaders, who use people’s fear to build more walls and segregation.

The song is both a personal letter and a clarion cry to the global situation, and in the same way, we’ve combined our psychedelic pop style with political imagery; shot entirely analogue, using paper cut and stop motion animation techniques in collaboration with Adam Albo, who edited the video.”

In other U2 news, the band have announced the UK/Europe leg of the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour 2018, with new dates to go on sale January 26th. For a full confirmed routing and further information, go to U2.com or see below:

“FIX ME”

VIDEO PREMIERE FROM NEW ALBUM COLORS AVAILABLE NOW

DIRECTED BY BROOK LINDER

PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ASPCA®

“Delicate dreaminess and longing…it’s the highlight of the whole record.”—PASTE

“A gorgeously melancholy mood piece”—AV CLUB

Following this morning’s sneak peek premiere on BuzzFeed, Beck and co-stars Mame, Riku, Gaku and Qoo—follow them on Instagram at @tamanegi.qoo.riku—have proudly unveiled the wonderfully whimsical, dare we say Instagrammable, video for “Fix Me,” from his new album Colors (Capitol Records).

Set in the otherworldly hills of Yamagata, Japan, the video for “Fix Me” is a tender look into the world of Mame and her canine guardians, featuring scenes that oscillate from highly stylized and costumed tableaus to carefree games of frisbee and feasting on birthday cake.

Director Brook Linder commented on the unique experience of making the video: “There’s something really special happening in the mountains of Yamagata, and we were lucky enough to enter Mame’s world for two afternoons in November. That home is heaven on Earth. One of the dogs, Qoo, and I had a special connection —I think he’s my great-grandfather reincarnated… or something. He looked into my soul.”

For the video’s release, Beck has partnered with the ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) to enable fans to make an easy charitable donation—simply visit www.aspca.org/helpanimals or watch the video here to help make a difference today.

“Fix Me” is the cool down closer of Beck’s 13th album Colors, hailed as “a euphoric blast of experimental pop… fresh and essential” by Rolling Stone, and more recently becoming a fixture of Best of 2017 lists including Rolling Stone, KCRW, Q, ABC, NME, Mojo and more. Colors has been holding strong in the charts since its top 3 debut in October 2017, currently buoyed by the #1 alternative single “Up All Night” and its epic video, the latter nominated in the Best Music Video category of the 60th annual Grammy Awards taking place Sunday, January 28.

Parlophone Records have announced the release of Falling from Graham Coxon, a new recording available on digital download and limited edition 7” vinyl – in support of The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

Falling was written by talented unknown songwriter and dedicated father Luke Daniel, who after a long fight with chronic pain tragically ended his own life last year. To mark what would have been Luke’s 45th birthday, Graham has recorded a new version of the track featuring on a double A side, which includes Luke’s original recording. Part of the proceeds of Falling will go to The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.

In releasing the tracks, Graham aims to reach out and give hope to everyone directly affected by this epidemic, their friends, family and loved ones as well as help raise awareness of CALM’s groundbreaking work in leading the fight to remove the barriers surrounding male vulnerability, which prevent men in crisis from seeking help.

Falling is available on digital download, streaming services and 7” vinyl.

“Their best album in years.”— USA TODAY

U2’s 14th studio album, Songs of Experience (Interscope), has now become the band’s eighth album to hit #1 on the Billboard 200, making U2 the sole group to score #1 albums across four decades: The 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s.  Songs of Experience’s first week sales of nearly 200,000 equivalent albums since its December 1 release represent 2017’s biggest first week numbers for a rock band.

Songs of Experience’s release was celebrated with a December 2 appearance on Saturday Night Live, featuring the band playing “Get Out Of Your Own Way” and “American Soul.”

The trailer for the “Get Out Of Your Own Way” video can be seen HERE. The full video will premiere in the coming days.

Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. will debut songs from the critically acclaimed new album alongside classics spanning the entire U2 catalogue on the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour beginning in North America in May 2018. Just as Songs of Experience serves as a companion piece to 2014’s Songs of Innocence, the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour will serve as a sequel to 2015’s iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour which saw “U2 reinvent the arena show” (Rolling Stone) and was named the #1 concert of 2015 by The New York Times. With demand for tickets necessitating second dates in San Jose, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Montreal, New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC, the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour will kick off Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in Tulsa OK at the BOK Center.
