LCD SOUNDSYSTEM Film Scheduled For Summer Release

Oscilloscope Laboratories to SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS

New York, NY (April 2, 2012)—Oscilloscope Laboratories announced today that it has acquired North American rights to SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS, a Pulse Films production directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, which documents the final days of LCD SOUNDSYSTEM.  SUAPTH had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and an encore presentation at last month’s SXSW Film and Music Festival.  The film will be released in special one-night-only engagements in theaters nationwide this summer. Tune in later for more program information.

If it’s a funeral… let’s have the best funeral ever.

One year ago today, LCD Soundsystem played its final show at Madison Square Garden. LCD frontman James Murphy had made the conscious decision to disband one of the most celebrated and influential bands of its generation at the peak of its popularity, ensuring that the band would go out on top with the biggest and most ambitious concert of its career. The instantly sold out, near four-hour extravaganza did just that, moving the thousands in attendance to tears of joy and grief, with NEW YORK magazine calling the event “a marvel of pure craft” and TIME magazine lamenting “we may never dance again.”  SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS is simultaneously a document of a once-in-a-lifetime performance and an intimate portrait of Murphy as he navigates both the personal and professional ramifications of his decision.

Adam Yauch, Beastie Boy and Head of Oscilloscope said, “Perhaps having grown up in a band for most of my life – a band that formed when I was 16 years old – and having released our first record when I was still in high school, this film addresses so many questions. For instance, it can be pretty clear when a band starts, but perhaps less so when it ends, or how it should end. In that sense, it”s brilliant of James to end it in such a definitive way.”

SUAPTH was produced by Lucas Ochoa and Thomas Benski of Pulse Films and James Murphy. Keith Wood, Christine Vachon, and The Creators Project executive produced. The deal was negotiated by David Fenkel of Oscilloscope and Mark Anker at WME Global.

For more information about the film visit  or follow SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS on Twitter @LCD_SUAPTH.

THIRD MAN RECORDS: NO APRIL FOOLS: 1000 JACK WHITE FLEXI DISCS DISTRIBUTED VIA BALLOON LAUNCH

RECORD STORE DAY 2012 RELEASES FROM JACK WHITE, KAREN ELSON, THE WHITE STRIPES & JERRY LEE LEWIS

JACK WHITE LIQUID-FILLED “SIXTEEN SALTINES” 12″ & KAREN ELSON LASER-CUT LACE SPLIT-COLOR DISC

AVAILABLE ONLY FROM THIRD MAN RECORDS IN NASHVILLE ON APRIL 21, 2012

http://thirdmanrecords.com

Three weeks prior to the April 24 release of his debut album Blunderbuss (Third Man Records/Columbia), Third Man Records has premiered the as yet unreleased Jack White album track “Freedom at 21” exclusively via 1000 flexi-disc records attached to helium balloons launched from the label headquarters in Nashville on April 1st, 2012: http://youtu.be/szoIcNykCc0

Envisioned as an experiment exploring non-traditional forms of record distribution and a way to get records in the hands of people who don”t visit record shops, the label was sure to use biodegradable latex balloons and all-natural twine in the process.

Accompanying the balloons were custom postcards with instructions for the finders to submit photos, discovery location and the date on which the record was found, all of which will be incorporated into a website where fans can access the information at http://thirdmanrecords.com/balloon

Statistics for similar balloon launches show a recovery rate of approximately 10% so it”s quite possible that less than 100 of the 1000 records launched will ever be discovered. Whatever the numbers, the “Freedom at 21” flexi-disc will surely be a highly sought-after collectible for years to come.

Next up, a veritable onslaught of TMR Record Store Day releases marking the April 21 occasion as seen at

JACK WHITE: “SIXTEEN SALTINES” –  The12-inch single of Jack White’s “Sixteen Saltines” features a  George Ingram-designed playable etching of the iconic Third Man logo on its B-side (Jack”s  cover of U2’s “Love is Blindness”). The grooves of the record play through the image, making it the world’s first-ever playable etched record ®.

But there”s a more… a limited-edition version of the “Sixteen Saltines” 12-inch, also featuring the playable etching, is pressed on clear vinyl–and filled with psychedelic blue liquid. The liquid-filled “Saltines” is the first-ever disc of its kind to be made available to the public.

KAREN ELSON: “MILK AND HONEY” – The new single from Karen Elson, a cover of Jackson C. Frank’s “Milk and Honey,” is pressed on milk and honey split-colored vinyl, and also available in a limited edition with a laser-cut lace sleeve. The visual these two elements make when combined together is simply stunning.

THE WHITE STRIPES: “HAND SPRINGS” B/W “RED DEATH AT 6:14” – Third Man will release a red vinyl with black wisps edition of the White Stripes “Hand Springs” and “Red Death at 6:14”, two songs that have been out of print on vinyl for over ten years.

JERRY LEE LEWIS: LIVE AT THIRD MAN – The CD/LP release of Jerry Lee Lewis’ Record Store Day 2011 live performance at Third Man will be available at ANY record store wise enough to have ordered copies for Record Store Day.

The liquid-filled “Sixteen Saltines” and laser-cut lace split-color “Milk And Honey” will ONLY be available from Third Man Records physical location in Nashville (623 7th Ave S) on Record Store Day, April 21st, 2012. The playable etching will also be available from Third Man and a select number of record stores.

Finally,  reports of Third Man pressing up the first ever 3 RPM record can be confirmed: Guests at Third Man”s March 8 third anniversary gala were not only treated to a once in a lifetime evening of culinary delights and custom tailored libations, a surprise live performance by Jack White, an opening set by Hell Beach and Greg Cartwright on the wheels of steel… Every guest in attendance left with a 3 RPM LP containing every Blue Series single Third Man has released. The world”s first 3 RPM record is a study in contradictions: Cut at the slowest speed yet playing faster than any other LP, a compilation of 7 inch records packaged like a 12 inch–but in a 12 inch sleeve made, like TMR”s 7 inch sleeves, of one continuous piece of paper folded in half and put into an acetate sleeve, easy to play but impossible to hear, given away from yet impossible to find… You get the idea. Or if you don”t:

HANNIBAL BURESS: “ANIMAL FURNACE”

MAY 20 WORLD PREMIERE OF COMEDY CENTRAL ORIGINAL ONE-HOUR STAND-UP SPECIAL

“If Steven Wright, Mos Def and Dave Chappelle had a baby, that would be disgusting, but it would sound like Hannibal Buress. The funniest young comic I’ve seen in years.” – Chris Rock

Chicago-bred New York-based stand up comedian Hannibal Buress will perform “comedic jokes related to personal stories, current events, the streets, and even food” (yes, someone actually wrote and published that line) in ANIMAL FURNACE, the World Premiere of a COMEDY CENTRAL original one-hour stand-up special May 20 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Hannibal Buress has appeared on THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN, LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON, JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE!, THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON, and numerous other late night TV shows. He has also made prime time appearances on LOUIE and 30 ROCK, and will appear on the upcoming Adult Swim series THE ERIC ANDRE SHOW and the Comedy Central original series THE KROLL SHOW. Buress has previously worked on the writing staffs of 30 ROCK and SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, and released his debut album, MY NAME IS HANNIBAL, in 2010 on Stand Up! Records.

Though perpetually touring, Buress considers New York City, where he hosts a weekly Sunday comedy night at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory, his place of residence. He lives with zero pets and an XBOX 360, and has a cable package with the Starz network but never watches it.

EASTBOUND & DOWN SOUNDTRACK, FEATURING ROCKIN’ TUNES FROM THE HBO ORIGINAL SERIES, OUT APRIL 24 ON FAT POSSUM RECORDS

INCLUDES DIALOGUE FROM KENNY POWERS & OTHER FAVORITE CHARACTERS

PLUS LINER NOTES BY SIDEKICK STEVIE JANOWSKI

“When my ass was 19 years old, I changed the face of professional baseball. Everyone wanted a piece of my s#*t. Just a man with a mind for victory and an arm like a f@^%*ing cannon. But sometimes when you bring the thunder, you get lost in the storm.”– Kenny Powers

“Each track is hand-picked by The Man himself.  That’s right.  This is the music that Kenny Powers rocks out to when he’s getting ready in the morning.  This is the music Kenny Powers listens to in the late hours, when the night terrors come and we are all children again.” – Stevie Janowski

Anyone who was wondering when the ultimate mix tape of the new millennium would finally show up need wonder no longer: It’s here.

Or it will be, on April 24 when Fat Possum Records scores big with the two-disc release of the Eastbound & Down Soundtrack, a collection of straight up classics – old and new alike – handpicked by the man, the myth, and legend in his own mind Kenny Powers, who drops over-the-top nuggets of wisdom that will be prized as much as the music on this high-energy compilation. And that’s saying loads since the soundtrack, which includes music and dialogue from the show’s three seasons, features primo jams from top shelfers like The Black Keys, Too $hort, The Stooges,   MC5, R.L. Burnside, Kenny Rogers and Lee Hazlewood. On top of all that, the record’s liner notes are written by Kenny’s own personal boy wonder and sidekick, Stevie Janowski.

HBO’s raucous comedy Eastbound & Down is the story of the rise and fall (and fall, and fall…) of former pitcher Kenny Powers as he navigates life after the Big Leagues as a washed up baseball star who hasn’t come to grips with the “washed up” part yet. With an insufferable ego, self-destructive behavior and penchant for profanity, Powers (played to perfection by Danny McBride), is often unlovable, but always entertaining.  From the twisted comedic minds of executive producers Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay, Jody Hill and McBride, the show’s popularity has created a loyal and enthusiastic following that surged over its first two seasons.  Eastbound & Down is back for more innings, with the third season currently airing Sunday nights at 10:00p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on HBO.

The Eastbound & Down Soundtrack will be available via digital download and in retail stores, including the HBO Shop (42nd Street & 6th Avenue NY, NY / www.store.hbo.com), for the suggested retail price of $14.98.

The complete Eastbound & Down Soundtrack track listing is:

Paul and Linda McCartney’s Legendary Album RAM Set for Deluxe Reissue

UK Release: 21st May 2012

US Release: 22nd May 2012

Paul and Linda McCartney’s 1971 album will be released across a variety of formats with new and exclusive content including a beautifully packaged Deluxe Edition Box Set– the ultimate collectable

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is an album from a long, long time ago, when the world was different.  This is an album that is part of my history – it goes back to the wee hills of Scotland where it was formed.  It’s an album called RAM. It reminds me of my hippie days and the free attitude with which was created.  I hope you’re going to like it, because I do!”
Paul McCartney, 2012

Following the successful recent reissues of McCartney, McCartney II, and this year’s Grammy winner for Best Historical Album Band on the Run, RAM is the latest album from Paul’s iconic back catalogue to get the deluxe Paul McCartney Archive Collection treatment.  As with the previous releases in the series, Paul has personally overseen every aspect of the project and the result is spectacular.  In keeping with the reissue campaign to date, the Deluxe Edition Box Set is the ultimate collectable for any fan of this album.  Its stunningly presented 112-page book, photo prints, handwritten lyrics and notes, four CDs and a bonus film DVD, tells the full story of a classic album that has gone down in music history as one of the most revered in McCartney’s catalogue.

RAM, originally released in May of 1971, is the only album to be credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney and was Paul’s second post-Beatles LP.  It was overshadowed at the time by the drama of the dissolution of The Beatles, as played out in the world’s media. The album topped the charts hitting  #1 in the UK and #2 in the US. While RAM polarized critics upon its release, music fans and critics alike since have overwhelmingly embraced it, with Rolling Stone, for example, revising their original review up to 4 stars.  Recently RAM has enjoyed even further re-appraisal and acknowledgement including a number of tribute albums.

RAM was written by Paul and Linda, mostly at their Scottish farm on the Mull of Kintyre.  In the autumn of 1970 they flew to New York to start the recording process.  Without a band in place they auditioned and drafted musicians, who included future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken.

The band completed the album in early 1971 along with non-album tracks ‘Another Day’ and ‘Oh Woman, Oh Why’ which were released together as Paul’s first post-Beatles single ahead of the release of RAM and became a Top 5 global hit.  The multi-disc editions of the RAM reissue include both songs as bonus tracks.  The album also gave Paul his first solo US number 1 single with ‘Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey’ and a Grammy win for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists.

RAM was also issued in mono with alternate mixes, which were only made available to radio stations at the time.  This version has gone on to become one of the most sought after McCartney collectables.  It will now be commercially available for the first time ever on CD as part of the Deluxe Edition as well as a limited run on vinyl.

1977 saw the release of Thrillington, an instrumental interpretation of RAM, which was originally recorded in 1971 at London’s Abbey Road Studios and was arranged by Richard Hewson.  It was released under the pseudonym Percy ‘Thrills’ Thrillington, an unknown eccentric socialite who often cropped up in mysterious newspaper classifieds.  In reality Percy was a character devised by Paul and Linda.  The idea behind it was simply to have some fun and the concept of doing a full orchestral album was an ambition long held by Paul.

The additional film content features previously unreleased and exclusive content including the brand-new documentary, “Ramming” narrated by Paul, as well as the original music videos for “Heart Of The Country” and “3 Legs”.

The remastering work was done at Abbey Road using the same team who recently remastered the complete Beatles’ catalogue.

RAM will be available across a variety of different formats:

Standard Edition: 1 CD digipak
Single disc, digitally remastered 12- track standard edition

Special Edition: 2 CD digipak
Remastered album and 8-track bonus audio CD including rarities, b-sides and the hit single, “Another Day”.
