Cal Jam 18 Announces Line-up; Foo Fighters Return As Headliners And Curators Of Cal Jam 18

Cal Jam 18 Announces Line-up; Foo Fighters Return As Headliners And Curators Of Cal Jam 18

JOINED BY EXCLUSIVE REUNION OF IGGY POP WITH POST POP DEPRESSION, TENACIOUS D, GARBAGE, GRETA VAN FLEET, SILVERSUN PICKUPS AND MANY MORE, PLUS CARNIVAL RIDES, WATER PARK, ROCK-N-ROLL MUSEUM

FRIDAY NIGHT PARTY WITH BILLY IDOL, BRIDGET EVERETT, MEXRRISSEY & OTHERS TBA

OCTOBER 5-6, 2018 AT GLEN HELEN REGIONAL PARK

TICKETS ON SALE THIS THURSDAY AT 10AM PST

A year after the legendary debut weekend from which 30,000+ true rock believers have barely recovered… Cal Jam 18 is back for another weekend of joyful rock-n-roll abandon featuring 20+ bands on four stages this October 5-6, 2018. Promoted by Live Nation, the festival returns to Glen Helen Regional Park and Amphitheater in San Bernardino, CA, for an even more monolithic second incarnation of what the Los Angeles Times cited as the reason fans “come to music festivals: to feel connection and catharsis.”

Today, the festival has announced its guitars, guitars and more guitars lineup with Foo Fighters back as headliners and curators, and another once in a lifetime bill that proves that rock-n-roll is alive and well in California. The good times come at the affordable price of $99 (plus taxes and fees) for one day GA. This year, Saturday ticket holders have the option to buy a Friday night ticket for $30 (plus taxes and fees). All camping packages include free entrance to the Friday night Party.  Tickets and camping packages go on sale this Thursday, May 17th at 10AM PST. Visit www.caljamfest.com and www.LiveNation.com for more information.

The good times begin with the Friday night party on October 5th, where those with camping passes and Friday night tickets will be invited to kick off the festival with 80s punk legend Billy Idol. Also on the bill is Bridget Everett, the comedian who Jerry Seinfeld called, “one of the greatest live performers I have ever seen in my life,” and Mexico City’sMexrrissey, performing their set of Smiths and Morrissey cover songs in Spanish, plus so much more. Friday night attendees will also have first crack at the carnival rides and the Rock-N-Roll Museum.

On Saturday, October 6th, Cal Jam will continue last year’s tradition of a 12-hour rock extravaganza where anything can happen—literally anything: last year saw the likes of Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Rick Astley, Dave Koz, Liam Gallagher and more joining the Foo Fighters on stage (yes, all during the same show). Foo Fighters will close the proceedings with one of their traditional rock marathons, bringing back what Forbes called “another great rock and roll party from the band who does them better than anyone else today.” And where last year’s inaugural festival was the beginning of the Foo Fighters’ Concrete and Gold Tour, this year’s appearance brings it full circle as the tour’s final show in the LA area.

This year Dave Grohl and crew will have set themselves up to play after literally the single hardest act to follow in the history of live music: the legendary Iggy Pop. Iggy’s Cal Jam 18 performance will be an exclusive one-off reunion with the all-star Post Pop Depression band that backed him on the handful of shows played in support of the album of the same name, featuring Queens of The Stone Age’s Joshua Homme, Dean Fertita and Troy Van Leeuwen and Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders.

The incomparable Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D will bring ‘The Metal’ to the masses, and alternative pop-rock icons Garbage will be bring their powerhouse live show to the stage. Also joining the bill will be some of the best that rock and roll has to offer from around the world with the likes of Greta Van Fleet, Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra, Krist Novoselic’s new band Giant In The Trees, Slaves (UK), Gang of Youths, Black Mountain and more performing throughout the day. See full list below.

In addition to the full day of shred, the festival will include a number of activities open to attendees. Campers will be treated to outdoor midnight movies and access to the water park, as well as the newly christened Friday Night Comedy Tent curated by comedian Tim Hanlon (aka Dave’s cousin). Stay tuned for the full schedule to be announced!  All ticket holders will be able to enjoy the site’s free carnival rides, the Rock-N-Roll museum, pop up record shop and a hillside full of flappy guys. Because we can. For those who are looking to imbibe in tasty eats and cold drinks, Cal Jam 18 offers a wide variety of curated food trucks, traditional festival food, and all sorts of delicious cold beer.

All the Colors. See the Colors. Feel the Colors… on a kaleidoscopic audiovisual voyage with Beck as your guide. Available exclusively at apple.co/ColorsMusicVideo, “Colors” is the dazzling new video directed by Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, The Cornetto Trilogy, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), that brings the title track of Beck’s current album to vivid multi-hued life, aided and abetted by kinetic choreography by Ryan Heffington. Beck and Wright’s collaboration on the “Colors” video has resulted in something completely alien yet strangely familiar, as if an extraterrestrial culture had accidentally intercepted a transmission of a Busby Berkeley film—and chosen to create their own sequel.

Apple Music is home to the best music video-watching experience available anywhere — all ad-free. Starting right now, fans can enjoy “Colors” and other amazing Beck music videos on Apple Music at http://applemusic.com/musicvideos.

“Colors” is both the namesake and mission statement of Beck’s 13th album (and sixth to crack the U.S. Top 10), released October 13, 2017 by Capitol Records (and streamed 212 million times since). Following up 2015 GRAMMY Album of the Year winner Morning Phase and featuring “Dreams,” “Wow,” “Dear Life” and “Up All Night” (Beck’s third Billboard Alternative #1), Colors has been hailed as “yet another milestone” (WALL STREET JOURNAL),  “a euphoric blast” (USA TODAY) and a  “classic, sneakily inventive, massively catchy” (AV CLUB) album  “that proves that Beck is still one of rock’s most intrepid inventors” (ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY).

“Colors” is directed by Edgar Wright and choreographed by Ryan Heffington. The video was produced by Bridgitte Pugh and executive produced by Nina Soriano for Anonymous Content.

” A galloping assault pitched between Devo and the Buzzcocks, with theremin sounds wailing like a supercomputer meltdown in a trashy ’50s sci-fi film.”—ROLLING STONE

“Sand-kicking surf-rock…an immediate crowd-please”—STEREOGUM

Step right up and take a trip through the eerie and macabre with Queens of the Stone Age as your tour guide —in their latest video, that is. The band has unveiled the latest creation for their “mile-a-minute Cramps-style rave-up” (UPROXX) “Head Like A Haunted House,” off their Grammy-nominated seventh album Villains (Matador).

Created, directed and art direction by frequent collaborator Liam Lynch, the video is a ghastly animated carnival ride through your worst fever-induced nightmares. Accompanied by disembodied hands, UFOs, smoldering hellscapes and grooving skeletons, Joshua Homme leads the way as he and his pack of mischief-makers sail through the nighttime sky on what else but flying coffins. Step right this way, if you dare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9byydi6cns

The 2018 Villains Tour continues to bring the heat and lay waste to capacity crowds, with the most recent round of fervent reviews clamoring for more:

“No one quite knows how to detonate a room like QotSA…Queens fuckin’ rock.” – EUGENE WEEKLY

“Potent…cage-rattling…Queens of the Stone Age proved it’s a rock ’n’ roll band that hasn’t lost its edge.”—SEATTLE TIMES

“It was a jailbreak from restraint, composure, moderation and other Friday night fun-ruiners, feet and hips emancipated first.”—LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

“Full-tilt swagger…much has been said about how rock n’ roll is dead…but Queens of the Stone Age will still be out there roaming loud and free, feeling the strings beneath their fingers and the wind in their hair, the feedback in their ears and the sunset in their eyes.”—VEGAS SEVEN

“There was a celebratory sense in the air, as if the year were ending, or even a treasonous presidency. Then, sharp as a switchblade, the band drove through five high-energy numbers in unnervingly perfect synchronicity…a bittersweet adrenaline bath, a furious blur of intensity and then out…the tightest gang in rock.”—ANTIQUIET

After a triumphant South American jaunt with brothers in arms Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age will make their return to the US later this month with stops including Austin (Austin360 Amphitheater) and Irving (The Pavillion at the Irving Music Factory) as well as Miami’s Bayfront Park Amphitheater, but not before kicking it all off with two sold out nights at San Diego’s Observatory North Park. Tickets are flying like bats out of hell, grab them now while you still can: http://www.qotsa.com

In addition to the slew of upcoming North American and European dates, Queens of the Stone Age will be headlining this summer at London’s Finsbury Park on June 30th—and they’re bringing friends. The band has curated a special lineup with guests including Iggy Pop, Run The Jewels, The Hives, Brody Dalle, and more.

LAZARUS: THE MOTION PICTURE/LIVE SOUNDTRACK EXPERIENCE

LAZARUS

THE MOTION PICTURE/LIVE SOUNDTRACK EXPERIENCE

FEATURING EXCLUSIVE PERFORMANCE BY THE ORIGINAL BAND FROM THE
OFF-BROADWAY SHOW BY DAVID BOWIE & ENDA WALSH

ONE NIGHT ONLY MAY 2 AT THE KINGS THEATRE IN BROOKLYN

Tickets On Sale Tuesday, March 20 at https://www1.ticketmaster.com/lazarus-brooklyn-new-york-05-02-2018/event/3000546AACA11ED9?artistid=1522046&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=60

Lazarus, the stage musical written by David Bowie and Enda Walsh, will be given a new life in a new light on May 2 at 8pm at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.

For the first time and for one night only, the theatrical premiere of a film of Lazarus’s London production will be soundtracked in the flesh by the actual band who brought the show to life in New York. Not only will fans who were unable to score tickets to Lazarus’s sold out New York run finally be able to see the show on the silver screen—they will have the unique and unprecedented experience of seeing the film with the music played in its entirety by the seven-piece band that backed Michael C. Hall and the Lazarus cast beginning with the show’s December 7, 2015 opening in New York City.

Lazarus features of nearly 20 songs spanning the Bowie catalogue personally rearranged by David Bowie and Henry Hey, from singles (“Heroes,” “Changes,” “Life On Mars?”) to deep cuts (“Always Crashing in the Same Car,” “It’s No Game (Part 1),” “Dirty Boys”) to the four songs written specifically for the show (“Lazarus,” “No Plan,” “Killing a Little Time,” “When I Met You”).  The Lazarus film/live soundtrack experience will mark the first time that these musicians have played these songs live since the January 20, 2016 finale of the show’s New York run.

The original Lazarus band is comprised of musical director/arranger/keyboardist (and producer of the Lazarus Cast Album) Henry Hey, keyboardist/guitarist JJ Appleton, drummer Brian Delaney, saxophonist Lucas Dodd, bassist Fima Ephron, trombonist Karl Lyden and guitarist Chris McQueen. Together, they will provide live accompaniment to on screen performances by Lazarus London cast members including Michael C. Hall as Thomas Jerome Newton, Amy Lennox as Elly, Sophia Anne Caruso as Girl, Michael Esper as Valentine, Jamie Muscato as Ben, and more.

Written by Bowie and Enda Walsh, Lazarus was inspired by Walter Tevis’s novel The Man Who Fell to Earth, and starred Michael C. Hall as Thomas Jerome Newton, the character Bowie portrayed in the 1976 film adaptation of that book. Directed by Ivo Van Hove and produced by Robert Fox, Lazarus opened December 7, 2015 at the New York Theatre Workshop to great critical acclaim. The New York Times raved “Ice-cold bolts of ecstasy shoot like novas through the glamorous muddle and murk of Lazarus, the great-sounding, great-looking and mind-numbing new musical built around songs by David Bowie,” while Rolling Stone hailed it as a “Surrealistic Tour de Force… milk-swimming, lingerie-sniffing, gin-chugging theater at its finest.” Tickets to the entire New York run of Lazarus sold out within hours of going on sale. The sold out London production of Lazarus, which was filmed for the May 2 event, had an exclusive limited run at the specially built Kings Cross Theatre from November 8, 2016 to January 22, 2017.

Lazarus The Motion Picture/Live Soundtrack Experience is presented by Live Nation in association with RZO Productions, Inc., under license from David Bowie Archive. All net proceeds from this show will be donated to Public Programs at the Brooklyn Museum including monthly, talks, performances, and screenings.

In addition to the newly announced shows, Arcade Fire had previously confirmed festival engagements including Summerfest’s July 8 closer in Milwaukee appearance, July 14 at Sloss Music & Arts Festival in Birmingham AL, July 15 at Forecastle in Louisville KY, and August 10 at HAVEN in Copenhagen, Denmark.
