ACTIVISION, GROHL AND NOVOSELIC RESPOND TO GUITAR HERO ALLEGATIONS
Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, the two surviving members of Nirvana, have no say whatsoever in the usage of Kurt Cobain’s likeness.
(LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10, 2009) Singer, songwriter, author, skateboarder and metal enthusiast David Ryan Adams announced the release date of the flagship digital single from his own newly reanimated Pax Am label today: “Lost And Found”/”Go Ahead And Rain” is available for pre-order now at http://store.ryanada.ms and is the first in a series of $1.49 digital singles, the revenues from which will support the http://ryanada.ms site and keep FOGGY TV broadcasting.
Adams issued the following statement regarding the debut of the Pax Am label:
Thanks for making Pax Am the number one Ryan Adams merch site online. We would hunt anyone else down though.
Did you have a rad summer? Good. If you said no, never worry, Pax Am is here. We are gonna fill your fall and winter up with vinyl, digital singles, and t shirts you don’t need.

Make it real you jerks.
Worship me.
Them Crooked Vultures–a/k/a Dave Grohl (drums, backing vocals), Josh Homme (guitar, vocals) and John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards, backing vocals)–has confirmed the dates of its first ever North American tour. The dates kick off with an October 2 performance at the Austin City Limits music festival, to be preceded by a September 30 Austin City Limits TV taping to air at a later date TBD, as well as an appearance at the October 1 Austin City Limits festival pre-party.
Tickets for the headline shows go on sale Saturday, September 5 at 10 a.m. local time.
To date, Them Crooked Vultures has played one show on U.S. soil, an August 9 one-off at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro. Of that show, the Chicago Sun-Times hailed the band as “one of the rarest things in rock: a supergroup that not only deserves that appellation, but which actually is greater than the sum of its storied parts,” while the Chicago Tribune opined “The term ’supergroup’ gets thrown around way too often in rock, but in the case of Them Crooked Vultures, it applies.” The band recently wrapped a string of surprise appearances across Europe and the UK, of which the Times of London remarked “the sound climbed to super-threatening levels and the music new heights of heaviosity…this was a monster on the loose” and the Sun added “there were moments of gentleness too – including some mesmerising piano work from Jones.”
Following Austin City Limits, Them Crooked Vultures’ headline dates commence October 5 at the Nashville War Memorial and include engagements in Columbus, Detroit, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC.

With 15 years, 6 platinum-plus albums and as many Grammys under their collective belt (not to mention sold out shows at Wembley Stadium, Madison Square Garden and the L.A. Forum), Foo Fighters will soon mark off yet another milestone in their ascension to quintessential American rock godhood: The band will release its first ever greatest hits compilation, the brilliantly titled Foo Fighters Greatest Hits, out November 3 on Roswell/RCA.
As ever, core Foo Fighters Dave Grohl (vocals/guitar), Taylor Hawkins (drums/vocals), Nate Mendel (bass) and Chris Shiflett (guitar) were not satisfied simply to compile a mixtape of the international smashes that have littered their mantlepieces with platinum plaques and golden statuettes and filled arenas and stadiums the world over: Foo Fighters Greatest Hits will feature two brand new tracks–”Wheels,” which made its live debut at President Obama and the USO’s July 4 barbeque at the White House honoring military heroes, and “Word Forward”–both recorded especially for this collection at the band’s own fabled 606 studio complex with producer Butch Vig. The new tracks not only hold their own–and then some–alongside individual Grammy winners “The Pretender,” “All My Life” and “Learn To Fly” and perennial Foo favorites “Best Of You,” “Times Like These,” “My Hero, “Everlong” and more, they both round out an overview of Foo Fighters’ illustrious output to date and hint at future peaks yet to be charted.
For those unfamiliar with the musical genre known as rock n roll, Foo Fighters debuted with the 1995 album of the same name. The band’s second record, the double-platinum The Colour & The Shape, was originally issued in 1997 and since reissued in a deluxe 10th anniversary edition. The third and fourth Foo Fighters albums, There Is Nothing Left To Lose (1999) and One By One (2002) , won consecutive Best Rock Album Grammy awards. In 2005, Foo Fighters celebrated the band’s 10-year anniversary with the two-disc In Your Honor, which was followed by the intimate 2006 acoustically augmented theater tour documented on the Skin + Bones album and DVD. The most recent Foo Fighters studio album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace was released in 2007, setting the iTunes UK record for first week sales, earning the Foos their third Best Rock Album Grammy and sixth overall, and sweeping the Brit Awards’ top international categories. The tour supporting ESP&G climaxed with the band’s biggest ever headline engagement, a two-night stand at London’s Wembley Stadium attended by 165,000 fans–setting the venue’s two-night attendance record–and immortalized on the 18-song Foo Fighters: Live At Wembley Stadium DVD.
At the now historic Wembley shows, Grohl asked the crowd “How did this band get so f***ing big?” On November 3, Foo Fighters Greatest Hits will explain.

Upcoming Atlanta, Tulsa and Dallas Dates To Wrap Up McCartney’s Summer Live 2009 Jaunt
(Boston MA — August 10, 2009) Paul McCartney’s August 5 & 6 stand at Boston’s Fenway Park has set the record for highest ever two-day attendance for a concert in the history of the storied ballpark.
Commenting on the extensive set list, which featured classics spanning decades of Beatles, Wings and solo material–including the recent Electric Arguments album released under the Fireman alias–Live Nation Boston’s Dave Marsden commented, “No one in history has ever had 33 hits in one night at Fenway Park.”
Reviews of McCartney’s recent Live 2009 performances at New York’s Citi Field and Washington DC’s Fed Ex Field have been unanimously rapturous. Response to the Fenway double header has continued this trend, with the Boston Globe, for example, raving “McCartney kicked off the first of his two concerts at Fenway Park with a nearly flawless performance that played heavily to audience favorites while allowing him to stretch out as an artist who is obviously still vital and relevant.”
Only three more dates remain in the Paul McCartney Live 2009 itinerary: The August 15 Green Concert at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park, an instantly sold out August 17 one night stand at Tulsa OK’s BOK Arena, and a grand finale’ August 19 at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas TX.
Having made production modifications to accommodate demand, Live Nation and AEG Live in cooperation with Marshall Arts announced last week that they’d be able able to release additional seats at all price levels for the August 19 tour closer. Additionally, the promoters made special arrangements with the Dallas Cowboys to sell general admission “Party Pass” tickets for the Stadium’s West Platform priced at $45 each.
The August 19 show marks not only the conclusion of McCartney’s summer 2009 trek through the U.S., but is is first appearance in Dallas since in 2005 as well as the only Texas performance of the current dates.
The additional tickets were released for sale Friday, August 7th at 10am, and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com
Whitney and Votolato will enter the studio on August 7th with a familiar face behind the boards. John Goodmanson, who worked with the duo on the final two Blood Brothers records, Crimes and Young Machetes, will be handling production chores on Jaguar Love’s Fat Possum debut.
The boys will be winnowing a selection of 18 new songs down to a selection of 10 or 11 for the album, with remaining tracks showing up in various online, giveaway and bonus track scenarios.
“Since last winter we’ve poured our hearts, blood, sweat, guts, grit and tears into writing this album,” Cody recently posted on his Twitter, “and Fat Possum gets us probably more than anyone has ever before.” Meanwhile, Johnny confesses, “John (Goodmanson) knows us inside and out, and this record needed to be made with someone we trust. It means too much for us to just bring in any old producer.”
The title and release date of the new record will be announced once they are confirmed.
A limited number of tickets are still available for the August 1 show at FedExField. They can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations, by calling 800-551-SEAT, and online at LiveNation.com. This concert is rain or shine.
This concert event at FedExField marks the latest in a series of landmark performances that link the beloved Beatle with Washington D.C., beginning with The Beatles’ first concert on American soil in 1964 at the Washington Coliseum, and continuing with McCartney’s critically acclaimed appearances in the District over the past forty-five years.
The FedExField concert on August 1 will feature classics from McCartney’s extensive catalog, including Beatles, Wings and solo career hits as well as selections from his most recent album Electric Arguments, released under his alias The Fireman.
The FedExField show follows McCartney’s July 17, 18 and 21 sold out trifecta of inaugural rock shows at New York’s Citi Field. Feedback on every night at Citi Field was unanimously ecstatic from fans and critics alike:
“Mr. McCartney wasn’t fixated on looking back. Although he has enough hits to fill his two-and-a-half-hour set with oldies from Wings, the Beatles and his solo albums, he chose to stay current as well, stumping the nostalgia crowd with songs from the album he released in 2008 as the Fireman, Electric Arguments. At 67, he is still a vigorous musician: writing tuneful and wily songs, playing assorted instruments, crooning his ballads ardently, hitting the high notes and howling like a rock and roller.” -THE NEW YORK TIMES
“Sir Paul remains the premier tunesmith of the last half century, and when he performs those tunes with verve, as he did Friday night, their fluidity never ceases to excite…Friday night’s show displayed why this music has provided so much comfort to so many, for so long.” -THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
“No one could hear anything when The Beatles first played Shea Stadium. This time, though, the acoustics were a little better. And actually, so is McCartney.” -NEWSDAY
McCartney gave his first ever American performance at the Washington Coliseum on February 11, 1964, a concert so historic that it was released to the public on DVD in 2003. Joined by the Caravelles, Tommy Rose, and the Chiffons, the Fab Four played to a capacity crowd of over 8,000 people, heralding the arrival of Beatlemania in the United States. The show on August 1 at FedExField marks McCartney’s first performance in Washington D.C. since October 8, 2005. Dave McKenna raved about the show in his review for the Washington Post, stating “folks came to hear McCartney sing, in a voice still strong enough to leave listeners awestruck.”
