ST. VINCENT JOINS WITH INTERNATIONAL ROCK STAR YOSHIKI TO REIMAGINE “NEW YORK”

GRAMMY®-WINNER ST. VINCENT JOINS WITH
INTERNATIONAL ROCK STAR YOSHIKI
TO REIMAGINE “NEW YORK”

TRANS-PACIFIC COLLABORATIVE VERSION OF
ST. VINCENT SIGNATURE SONG AVAILABLE
WORLDWIDE AUGUST 28

Multiple Grammy®-winning artist ST. VINCENT has partnered with international rock star/composer YOSHIKI to craft a fresh version of her song “New York”, set for release August 28 through Loma Vista and Concord in association with Universal Music.

The new version of ST. VINCENT’s bittersweet signature tune originally released on her international Top 10 album MASSEDUCTION, features YOSHIKI’s classical-inspired arrangements that infuse the song’s timeless melodies with unpredictable new textures.

The surprise pairing of ST. VINCENT and YOSHIKI emerged organically, born of a kindred passion for genre-bending originality. Both have transcended musical boundaries to forge their own singular musical and visual identities, making it as natural as it was unexpected for them to come together.

ST. VINCENT said, “It was an honor to work with the amazing YOSHIKI on this new version of ‘New York’. YOSHIKI’s arrangement added to the song in the way time or distance transform longtime friends or relationships: the original is still recognizable, but subtly and significantly altered.”

YOSHIKI said, “As an artist, I admire how ST. VINCENT approaches music in an innovative and courageous way. Her music breaks the boundaries of genres, which is a mindset I can completely relate to. My band X JAPAN played the Coachella Festival in 2018 at the same time that ST. VINCENT performed, but at that time we didn’t meet. But this year, through mutual friends, we were introduced. In terms of ‘New York,’ it’s a great song to start with, and I’m grateful that she trusted me to fully rearrange the song with my classical approach. I hope ST. VINCENT’s fans enjoy it, and that my fans will too.”

About ST. VINCENT
Annie Clark made her recorded debut as ST. VINCENT in 2007 with Marry Me and has since become one of the most innovative and enigmatic presences in modern music.

Each of ST. VINCENT’s four subsequent albums has met with critical acclaim and commercial success eclipsing that of its predecessor. These albums would include Actor (2009), Strange Mercy (2011), and her self-titled fourth album and winner of the 2014 Grammy for Best Alternative Album, making her only the second female artist ever to win in that category. In addition to these solo works, ST. VINCENT joined with David Byrne to record and release the collaborative album Love This Giant in 2012, and performed with Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear of Nirvana at the band’s 2014 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, playing the season finale of Saturday Night Live that same year.

In 2017, working with co-producer Jack Antonoff, ST. VINCENT created a defining statement with MASSEDUCTION. As ambitious as it was accessible, the album broke ST. VINCENT into the U.S. and UK top 10s while landing at #1 on the Best of 2017 lists of Jon Pareles of The New York Times and The Guardian—and placing high in the year-end rankings of The AV Club, Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Mashable, The New York Daily News, the NME, Noisey, Paste, Pitchfork, Q, Stereogum, USA Today, and more.

ST. VINCENT’s latest album, MassEducation, reveals another dimension of 2017’s universally acclaimed MASSEDUCTION. A stunning standalone work in its own right, MassEducation was recorded live in the studio by Annie Clark on vocals and Thomas Bartlett on piano over two nights in August 2017 during the mixing of MASSEDUCTION.

The album lays bare the exquisite songcraft of its other half, rendering songs like “Slow Disco” and “Savior” and their subjects in vivid, vulnerable new light. Clark herself describes the album as “two dear friends playing songs together with the kind of secret understanding one can only get through endless nights in New York City.”

Outside of recording and performing, ST. VINCENT has directed the short horror film The Birthday Party, released two editions of her signature Ernie Ball Music Man guitar, and co-written and starred as a fictionalized version of herself in the upcoming film The Nowhere Inn

BECK Presents HYPERSPACE: A.I. EXPLORATION A Visual Album Experience

BECK
Presents

HYPERSPACE: A.I. EXPLORATION
A Visual Album Experience

Historic Collaboration Between Explorers of Sound and Space

“ I THINK EACH SONG IS KIND OF A DIFFERENT WAY THAT DIFFERENT PEOPLE ‘HYPERSPACE’ – WE ESCAPE FROM THE REALITY THAT WE’RE ALL DEALING WITH.” – BECK

Given that ROLLING STONE’s 4-star review of Beck’s Hyperspace (Capitol Records) likened his voice to “David Bowie’s Major Tom checking in from distant orbit,” it’s purely logical that the seven-time GRAMMY-winner’s next collaboration would be with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in southern California.

With the release of Hyperspace: A.I. Exploration, Beck takes the universally acclaimed album to new frontiers via an interstellar journey combining publicly available NASA mission images, curated with assistance from NASA JPL, visualizations, animations and data with revolutionary Artificial Intelligence tech. The result is the creation of new worlds borne from NASA missions, each soundtracked by Beck’s songs: actual Hyperspaces.

The realization of these Hyperspaces was executed by A.I. architects and directors OSK, who asked “How would artificial intelligence imagine our universe?” In finding the answer, OSK created a unique A.I. utilizing computer vision, machine learning and Generative Adversarial neural Networks (GAN) to learn from NASA’s vast archives. After training on hundreds of thousands of images, videos and data points from NASA’s space exploration research and missions, the Hyperspace A.I. then began creating its own visions of our universe.

The resulting visual album merges science and art, taking us on a journey across space, time, and beyond – all scored by the otherworldly music of Beck’s Hyperspace. Actual NASA expeditions and data are transformed into vivid new universes “imagined” by an emerging new kind of creative intelligence.

The Hyperspace: A.I. Exploration Visual Album Experience track listing including corresponding NASA destinations is as follows:

Hyperlife | Landsat 8, International Space Station
Uneventful Days | Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), Apollo 12
Saw Lightning | Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), Curiosity Rover, Viking 1 Orbiter
Die Waiting | Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)
      Chemical | Cassini-Huygens
      See Through | Juno
Hyperspace | Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS)
      Stratosphere | Spitzer Space Telescope
Dark Places | Hubble Space Telescope (HST)
Star | Hubble Space Telescope (HST), Swift, Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope
Everlasting Nothing | Hubble Space Telescope (HST)

+ visualizers for bonus tracks ‘I Am The Cosmos (42420)’ and ‘Dark Places (Soundscape) using A.I. footage trained on NASA black hole and star data.

In addition to taking his 14th album beyond the confines of the atmosphere, Beck ventures further into these songs’ innerspace via a limited edition vinyl LP release of Hyperspace. Due out December 4, Hyperspace (2020) features two previously unreleased songs ‘Dark Places (Soundscape)’ and a bonus solo acoustic version of Chris Bell’s ‘I Am The Cosmos (42420)’ recorded at home in April of 2020, plus brand new 2020 mixes of ‘Star’, ‘Hyperspace’, ‘See Through’ and ‘Die Waiting’. The vinyl is a limited edition 12” with holographic jacket, and also includes a 24-page booklet with AI images & NASA data for each track, limited to 5000 copies. The Hyperspace special edition LP adds new dimensions to the Beck album PEOPLE magazine called “his best in a decade.”

About OSK
Founded by artists Jon Ray and Isabelle Albuquerque, Osk operates at the convergence of art and emerging technologies, generating new questions, practices and collaborative models for making cultural and personal works. SET TO FEATURE ON THE FLAMING PIE ARCHIVE COLLECTION

LIMITED NUMBERED DELUXE EDITIONS TO INCLUDE REMASTERED ORIGINAL ALBUM, BONUS TRACKS, PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED MATERIAL, EXCLUSIVE BOOKS, PHOTOS, ARTWORK, & MUCH MORE

TO BE RELEASED JULY 31 VIA MPL/CAPITOL/UMe

Paul McCartney today releases the ‘Beautiful Night’ EP as part of the forthcoming re-release of his acclaimed 1997 album, ‘Flaming Pie’. Due for release on July 31st, ‘Flaming Pie’ marks the thirteenth installment in Paul’s GRAMMY Award-winning Archive Collection.

The EP recreates the original 1997 ‘Beautiful Night’ maxi single, featuring the remastered Flaming Pie single, ‘Beautiful Night’, a 1995 demo of the song, an alternate ‘Run Through’ recording, and ‘Oobu Joobu Part 5’ – a medley of Beautiful Night-themed chat, alternate mixes and interview recordings of Paul and Ringo Starr speaking about the song.A newly remastered music video for Beautiful Night, originally filmed in 1997, is also released today. Watch HERE.

Beautiful Night marks one of the first collaborations between Paul and Ringo Starr since The Beatles. Speaking of his memories of that time, Paul said:

“I’d been saying to Ringo for years that it’d be great to do something, because we’d never really done that much work together outside The Beatles. One night Jeff Lynne suggested, “why don’t you get Ringo in?” and I said, “OK!” It just sort of happened.

I had this song Beautiful Night which I’d written quite a few years ago. I’d always liked it but I felt I didn’t quite have the right version of it.

So I got this song out for when Ringo was coming in, and right away it was just like the old days.”

Originally released May 5, 1997, Flaming Pie ended a four-year gap between McCartney studio albums. Recorded largely in the wake of Paul’s involvement in the curation and release of The Beatles Anthology series, Flaming Pie was shaped and inspired by that experience, with Paul remarking at the time “(The Beatles Anthology) reminded me of The Beatles’ standards and the standards that we reached with the songs. So in a way it was a refresher course that set the framework for this album.”

Produced by Paul, Jeff Lynne and George Martin and featuring a supporting cast of family and friends including Ringo Starr, Steve Miller, Linda McCartney and son James, Flaming Pie is equal parts a masterclass in songcraft and a sustained burst of joyful spontaneity. With highlights ranging from the uplifting and inspirational opener ‘The Song We Were Singing’ to the raucous title track (named for a quote from an early John Lennon interview on the origin of The Beatles’ name: “It came in a vision – a man appeared on a flaming pie and said unto them, ‘from this day on you are Beatles with an A.’”) to the pensive ‘Calico Skies,’ and featuring singles ‘Young Boy,’ ‘The World Tonight’ and ‘Beautiful Night,’ Flaming Pie would represent yet another pinnacle in Paul’s solo catalogue: Released to rapturous reviews, the album would be Paul’s most commercially successful release of the ‘90s, achieving his highest chart positions since the ‘80s and would receive gold certifications in the US, UK, Japan and more.

Paul’s critically acclaimed and universally beloved tenth solo album Flaming Pie will be the latest to receive the Archive Collection treatment, released on formats including a 5CD/2DVD/4LP Collector’s Edition, a 5CD/2DVD Deluxe Edition, plus 3LP, 2LP and 2CD editions. Metallica and San Francisco Symphony’s September 6 & 8, 2019 S&M2 concerts were historic on multiple levels: They served as the grand opening of San Francisco’s Chase Center, reunited the band and Symphony for the first time since the 1999 performances captured on the Grammy-winning S&M album, and featured the first-ever symphonic renditions of songs written and released since those original S&M shows.

The sold out shows were rapturously received by the 40,000 fans who traveled from nearly 70 countries, as well as the media: Rolling Stone raved “the group proved that anything was possible,”Variety noted an atmosphere “buzzing with excitement,” while the Mercury News witnessed “a concert that fans will be talking about for decades to come,” and Consequence of Sound hailed “a true celebration of Metallica and their musical prowess.”

The concert film is a brand-new edit done by Joe Hutching (Through The Never) and both the audio and visuals have been taken to the next level from the October 2019 theatrical version that played in over 3,700 cinemas worldwide

IDIOT PRAYER: Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace – Nick Cave performs solo at the piano in a film shot this June, at the iconic London venue. Join the global live streaming event on 23 July 2020.

“Idiot Prayer’ evolved from my ‘Conversations With…’ events, performed over the last year or so. I loved playing deconstructed versions of my songs at these shows, distilling them to their essential forms—with an emphasis on the delivery of the words. I felt I was rediscovering the songs all over again, and started to think about going into a studio and recording these reimagined versions at some stage—whenever I could find the time.

Then, of course, the world went into lockdown. The Bad Seeds’ global 2020 tour was postponed. Studios shut down. Venues shut down. And the world fell into an eerie, self-reflective silence.

It was within this silence that I began to think about the idea of not only recording the songs, but also filming them – and so we started to assemble a small team, including the great cinematographer, Robbie Ryan, sound man, Dom Monks, and editor, Nick Emerson, with the intention to film as soon as it became feasible to get back to business in some way.

Meanwhile, I sat at home working out how to play more songs in the ‘Conversations’ format—new songs and songs from the Ghosteen album, Grinderman songs and early Bad Seeds stuff, and everything in between.

We worked with the team at Alexandra Palace – a venue I have played and love – on securing a date to film just as soon as they were allowed to re-open the building to us. We had an amazing production team and crew, and what they did within this extraordinary situation was a marvel. Surrounded by Covid officers with tape measures and thermometers, masked-up gaffers and camera operators, nervous looking technicians and buckets of hand gel, together we created something very strange and very beautiful that spoke into this uncertain moment, but was in no way bowed by it.

‘Idiot Prayer’ serves as the final film in a trilogy— along with ’20,000 Days on Earth’ and ‘One More Time with Feeling’—and is its luminous and heartfelt climax. ‘Idiot Prayer’ is a prayer into the void—alone at Alexander Palace. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.”

BECK Receives Khruangbin Remix of “No Distraction” for his Birthday

BECK Receives Khruangbin Remix of “No Distraction” for his Birthday

To commemorate Beck’s July 8 birthday, Khruangbin is gifting the seven-time GRAMMY-winner with a singular interpretation of a beloved song from his lauded catalogue:

“No Distraction (Khruangbin Remix)” features the Houston TX trio reconstructing this deep cut from Beck’s Best Alternative Music Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical GRAMMY-winning 2017 album Colors. The track is available now across digital platforms.

Beck’s current album Hyperspace was released November 22, 2019 on Capitol Records, and has been uniformly hailed as yet another in a series of nearly 30 years of creative peaks. The ASSOCIATED PRESS raved “There is not a boring moment on the entire album,” USA TODAY added “14 albums into his career, Beck has rarely been better than he is on Hyperspace,” while David Fricke of ROLLING STONE’s 4-star lead review likened Beck’s voice on the album’s lead single “Uneventful Days” to “David Bowie’s Major Tom checking in from distant orbit.”
