MATES OF STATE CRUSHES (THE COVERS MIXTAPE) OUT NOW

Mates of State’s brand new video for their interpretation of Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You In The End” will make its broadcast debut today at 2:35 p.m. EST during an ABC News Now “Amplified” segment, which can be seen on RCN and Verizon FiOS as well as at abcnews.com/amplified , and will also feature an exclusive segment documenting the making of the clip.

The “True Love Will Find You In The End” video, which will also be viewable separately at MatesofState.com, features Mates Jason Hammel and Kori Gardener roaming the subways and streets of New York making mischief with mobile video projectors. The video began as  concept hatched over beers by Hammel and ABC reporter Dan Harris and was ultimately realized as a unique collaboration between Mates of State and ABC.

Mates of State’s Crushes (The Covers Mixtape), currently available at matesofstate.com for a more than reasonable $5, was self-released June 15 to all finer digital music retailers. A limited edition physical CD version of Crushes (The Covers Mixtape) will be sold only at dates on the band’s current Summer Crushes tour.

Crushes (The Covers Mixtape) consists of versions of some of the Mates’ personal favorite songs by artists including Nick Cave, whose “Love Letter” is also interpreted visually in a video directed by Daniel Garcia, also up at matesofstate.com, The Mars Volta, Belle and Sebastian, Fleetwood Mac and Girls, whose “Laura” is also available in its Mates incarnation as a free download at matesofstate.com

Crushes (The Covers Mixtape) is the first full album recorded and produced by Mates Jason Hammel and Kori Gardner themselves, with a mixing assist from longtime collaborator Peter Katis (The National, Swell Season, Interpol, etc.).

Finally, Mates of State’s Summer Crushes tour kicked off on the record’s June 15 release date and will run through July.  This one time only multimedia excursion features guests ranging from the unpretentious rock of Free Energy to the wit of comedians Todd Barry (Flight of the Conchords, Lucky Louie, Bored to Death) and Nick Thune (Comedy Central Presents, Knocked Up). The unique Summer Crushes roadshow is transforming venues previously headlined by the Mates into theaters hosting virtual traveling variety shows featuring magicians, illusionists, Bubble Man, sideshow acts (Beds of Nails, Straitjacket escapists, sword swallowing, human blockheads), acts of gravity defiance, jugglers, and more–while Mates’ own Jason Hammel is serving as the tour’s resident DJ.
