BOOTS has premiered his self-directed short film “Motorcycle Jesus”. It can be viewed now at bootsonboots.com.

Speaking to the intentions and inspiration behind “Motorcycle Jesus”, BOOTS stated:

“This film was created out of necessity… While I’m alive — while I’m here, I want to find a way to leave my own drawings on the insides of caves. Someone will find them.”

“Motorcycle Jesus” eschews the traditional music video format, instead taking the form of a 30-minute feature film set amongst the arid red backdrop of the Mojave Desert. Derived purely from BOOTS’s vision, as he was behind the camera with director of photography Hunter Baker for the set up of every shot, “Motorcycle Jesus” is also one of the first of its kind to be presented in 4K HD (2160p).

In addition to the original BOOTS songs that soundtrack “Motorcycle Jesus”, original music was also contributed by El-P and Carla Azar.

The “Motorcycle Jesus” soundtrack will be available March 3 via Canvasback/Atlantic.

Jon Pareles and Ben Ratliff of The New York Times recently dedicated an episode of their Music Popcast to a discussion of BOOTS’s work. Listen here.
