BLUEPRINTS + Grand Opening Reception
Wednesday, March 18th, 8pm – 11pm

Following Wednesday’s showcase, Third Man Records will host the grand opening reception for their installation BLUEPRINTS, an exploration of Paramount Records and the birth of American Music as well as a Third Man Records pop-up shop. BLUEPRINTS will be located in Billy Reid’s Austin retail space at 1122 W. 6th St. The installation serves as a tribute to the music, musicians, and record label that changed the sonic landscape of our country in the early 20th century, and encourages visitors to learn about Paramount Records and interact with the Grammy winning “Cabinet of Wonder” box sets released by Third Man and Revenant Records over the past two years. The grand opening will feature the musical stylings of Up Around The Sun (Tim Kerr and Jerry Hagins), as well as food, drink and merriment and the opportunity to create your own Spirit-o-graph (shadow silhouette!) with Bryce McCloud, the Nashville artist responsible for much of the stunning design of The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records box sets. One of the masterminds behind the Paramount reissues and Revenant Records founder, Dean Blackwood, will also be at the event to discuss the project and answer questions.

BLUEPRINTS will be open to the public from March 12th through May. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10-7, Sunday 12-6. Exclusive records and merchandise will be available the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of SXSW, with additional retail surprises and events to follow throughout the life of the installation. Keep an eye on the Third Man Twitter (@thirdmanrecords) for daily updates.

THIRD MAN ROLLING RECORD STORE
The Third Man Rolling Record Store will be rollin’ and chooglin’ into Austin and making its way around and about the city throughout the festival with limited, RRS-only merchandise, exclusive records, and… live performances! BOOTS: “MOTORCYCLE JESUS” SOUNDTRACK NOW STREAMING

SOUNDTRACK OUT TOMORROW VIA CANVASBACK/ATLANTIC

BOOTS
BOOTS

Following last week’s surprise release of his visually and musically stunning “Motorcycle Jesus” short film, BOOTS is now streaming the film’s soundtrack in its entirety. Much like the now deleted 2014 WinterSpringSummerFall mixtape and the recently evaporated “Mercy” track and clip, “Motorcycle Jesus” will likely disappear – as things tend to do in BOOTS’s world – after an undetermined amount of time. Or maybe not. Listen while you can here.

BOOTS has premiered his self-directed short film “Motorcycle Jesus”. It can be viewed now at bootsonboots.com.

Speaking to the intentions and inspiration behind “Motorcycle Jesus”, BOOTS stated:

“This film was created out of necessity… While I’m alive — while I’m here, I want to find a way to leave my own drawings on the insides of caves. Someone will find them.”

“Motorcycle Jesus” eschews the traditional music video format, instead taking the form of a 30-minute feature film set amongst the arid red backdrop of the Mojave Desert. Derived purely from BOOTS’s vision, as he was behind the camera with director of photography Hunter Baker for the set up of every shot, “Motorcycle Jesus” is also one of the first of its kind to be presented in 4K HD (2160p).

In addition to the original BOOTS songs that soundtrack “Motorcycle Jesus”, original music was also contributed by El-P and Carla Azar.

The “Motorcycle Jesus” soundtrack will be available March 3 via Canvasback/Atlantic.

Jon Pareles and Ben Ratliff of The New York Times recently dedicated an episode of their Music Popcast to a discussion of BOOTS’s work. Listen here.

PAUL McCARTNEY TO HEADLINE FIREFLY MUSIC FESTIVAL

JUNE 18-21 AT THE WOODLANDS, DOVER DE

Following a whirlwind weekend including a surprise intimate Valentine’s Day gig at New York’s Irving Plaza and a performance on Saturday Night Live’s 40th Anniversary prime time special (not to mention a massive all-star jam at the SNL40 after party), Paul McCartney now lays the rumors to rest:

Paul will headline this year’s Firefly Festival June 18-21 at the Woodlands in Dover, DE. It is Paul’s first ever appearance at Firefly and the latest confirmed date of this year’s Out There tour, following on the recent announcement of April 21-May 2 run through Japan and South Korea.

The Out There tour, as always, features music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, as Paul performs songs spanning his entire career – as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle.

The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived; music which for many has shaped the very soundtrack of their lives. recent years have seen Paul and his band perform in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, Buckingham Palace, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people, and even broadcast live into Space! Featuring Paul’s band of the last 10+ years – Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums) – the show never disappoints.

The tour also uses state of the art technology and production to ensure the entire audience has the best possible experience. With massive screens, lasers, fireworks, unique video content and, of course, the best songs in the world, a Paul McCartney show is so much more than just an ordinary concert. Paul’s shows attract a multi generational audience from different backgrounds all brought together by his music.

Passes for Firefly are available exclusively at www.FireflyFestival.com.

NEARLY 1/4 OF iTUNES USERS ARE LISTENING TO U2

“This is fantastic news. If these figures suggest that these songs still matter to people, then we’re knocked out. That’s all any songwriter wants.” — Bono

An independent study has concluded that U2 accounted for 23% of all music listened on iOS devices throughout January 2015.

The study, conducted by the Kantar Group, found that not only was U2 the most-listened-to act on the iOS platform, but that more users were listening to U2 than the second (Taylor Swift at 11%) and third (Katy Perry at 8%) runners-up combined.

Additionally, Kantar found that 95% of the U2 listeners listened to one or more tracks from the band’s current album, Songs Of Innocence.

“It’s nice to know that 5 months on so many people have discovered Songs of Innocence. In the end we just wanted people to hear the album. We took a big risk but today we can say that the experiment worked.” — The Edge

“Dave Grohl”s busy but beautiful road trip… intimate and revealing… makes a passionate case that the roots of American music result in the same large tree.”–WASHINGTON POST

“The care and detail lavished on each city in Sonic Highways is incredibly interesting and powerful”–VULTURE

Fresh off winning the fans” vote to be named Best International Act at the NME Awards while in the thick of a massive Australia/New Zealand stadium tour, Foo Fighters have confirmed the details of the DVD/Blu-Ray and iTunes release of Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways:

The critically acclaimed and award-winning HBO docuseries directed by Foo Fighters” own Dave Grohl, will receive a deluxe DVD/Blu-Ray treatment and digital release via iTunes on April 7. Described by Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways followed Grohl and fellow Foo Fighters Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear as they recorded each song in a legendary studio in one of eight iconic American musical capital cities – Chicago, Washington DC, Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Seattle and New York – tapping into the deep musical heritage and cultural fabric of each locale: experiencing firsthand how each region shaped these musicians in their formative years, and in turn the impact those people had on the cultural fabric of their hometowns. The resulting eight songs were released as the eighth Foo Fighters album, each song featuring local legends sitting in, with every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style: Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews for the HBO series, and other local personalities and experiences that became part of the process.

With the DVD/Blu-Ray release of Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, the journey is expanded and enriched, with virtually every word and note captured and shared with the viewer. If Grohl”s 2013 feature film directorial debut, the Grammy-winning Sound City, was a celebration of the human element in the creation and recording of music, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways is, in its director”s words, “a chronicling of a journey to unravel the fabric of our musical identity… not only the making of our most ambitious album… this is Sound City on steroids.” Dave”s unequaled passion for both the music he creates and the music that inspires its creation once again fuels the type of honest and trusting musician-to-musician exchange that made Sound City a critical and commercial smash-and that makes Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways required viewing for music fans for generations past, present and future.
