It’s official: with the final sales week of 2014 having drawn to a close, Jack White’s Lazaretto (Third Man Records/Columbia) is the #1 selling vinyl release of 2014. With 86,707 copies of its ULTRA LP sole vinyl configuration sold in the U.S. since its June 10 release, and a worldwide total exceeding 150,000,Lazaretto not only took the top spot in the 2014 vinyl sales chart—it posted the highest vinyl sales year of the Soundscan era.

These are but the latest records set by Lazaretto: The 40,000 copies the ULTRA LP moved in the seven days following its June 10 release made for the highest first-week vinyl numbers since Soundscan began tracking sales data in 1991. Prior to Lazaretto’s release, a 7″ single featuring a special mono live version of the title track was recorded and released on site at Third Man Records all within a matter of hours onSaturday, April 19th, setting a new record for the World’s Fastest Released Record.

Meanwhile, as Lazaretto continues to dominate readers and critics polls alike, the album has garnered three GRAMMY award nominations including Best Alternative Music Album, as well as Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for its title track. The 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards will air Sunday, February 8, 2015 on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

Jack White has also been nominated in the Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package GRAMMY field, as art director for the Third Man & Revenant Records release The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Volume 1 (1917-27), bringing Jack’s career GRAMMY nomination total to 29—of which he was won nine. Third Man Records has also been recognized in two additional categories: Best Album Notes for The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Volume 1 (1917-27), and Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package for the vinyl box set release of Neil Young’s A Letter Home.

Jack White, possibly our foremost living musical historian, is excited to help usher in the dawn of a new era in video technology with the premiere of his very own virtual reality app, “JACK WHITE: THIRD-D”. In partnership with Jaunt, the technology company building the hardware and software to make truly immersive cinematic VR possible, Jack & Third Man have brought forth a mind-blowing mobile application that allows fans with a Google Cardboard viewer (learn more here) and a recent 5″ or 6″ Android phone to see him perform in a way no one ever has. “JACK WHITE: THIRD-D” was filmed using state of the art technology – Jaunt’s proprietary 360 degree, stereoscopic 3D cameras and 3D sound-field microphones; it features music mixed in Dolby Atmos. Be “there” as Jack tears through “Freedom at 21” and “Ball and Biscuit” at Fenway Park and the seminal “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground” at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Download “JACK WHITE: THIRD-D” now at the Google Play store or directly from Jaunt.

To celebrate this leap for concert-going mankind, Third Man Records will be giving away special edition Third Man Google Cardboard headsets to the first 75 Android phone users that purchase Jack’s Lazaretto ULTRA LP in the Nashville store on Wednesday, December 10. Third Man will also be showcasing the new app with three on-site demo cardboard headsets equipped with Samsung S5 phones in their store starting on Wednesday.

Check out a standard, non-VR teaser video for the app here.

Jaunt delivers a completely new way to present and experience media. The Jaunt platform makes use of advanced algorithms and computational photography software to enable the creation of seamless, omnidirectional 3D experiences. In addition to this new content, Jaunt will continue to focus its efforts on enabling top content producers to create a diverse array of cinematic VR experiences that will be available for consumers to view and download across many platforms.

Last Friday, Jack’s second full length album, Lazaretto (Third Man Records/Columbia), hauled in three GRAMMY award nominations including Best Alternative Music Album. Lazaretto‘s title track secured nominations for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance. The 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards will air Sunday, February 8, 2015 on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

Jack will hit the road once again in January when he plays Austin, Nashville and New York. Tickets for these shows can be found here. See below for a complete itinerary.

Ikey Owens

The coroner has determined that Ikey Owens died from a heart attack the morning of October 14 at approximately 4 am. The only drugs found in his room were a small amount of marijuana.

Ikey, born Isaiah Randolph Owens, was a GRAMMY award-winning artist best known for his work with Jack White, the Mars Volta, De Facto and Free Moral Agents, among others. He was a beloved member of the music community as well as his hometown of Long Beach, CA.

WE LOVE YOU, IKEY

It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah “Ikey” Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans.

Ikey Owens was an astounding keyboard player in Jack White’s backing band. He also played with Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents, and many other projects.

Out of respect for Ikey, the remaining shows of the Jack White Tour in Mexico have been cancelled.

We will all miss you Ikey. You were and are an incredible artist.

JACK WHITE AND FOO FIGHTERS

Dear dream-makers of the media….

Last night Jack White made a joke on stage!

There was a minor equipment mishap, specifically with his guitar, and in an effort to keep his audience engaged, he made a joke! It was meant to be funny and self deprecating: “hey sorry, you’re stuck with just me up here…” vs the Foo Fighters who have three guitar players on stage and regularly play stadium shows.

Jack has the utmost respect for the Foo Fighters and communicated with Grohl this morning.

So if you’ll let us, we’ll all continue with our day and we assure you: All is well in the rock n roll world.

Jack White is pleased to unveil the latest video offering from his critically-lauded second LP, Lazaretto (Third Man Records/Columbia). The video for “Would You Fight For My Love?” was directed by Robert Hales and filmed in the historic Cruise Room, Denver’s original post-prohibition bar, located in the Oxford Hotel. The video also stars musician and photographer Scout Pare-Phillips and many other musical members of the Third Man Records family.

Continuing Jack’s tradition of innovation and – having released the World’s Fastest Record earlier this year – penchant for quick turnarounds, “Would You Fight For My Love?” was conceptualized, produced and shot within a 24 hour period. The six-hour shoot came together on less than 12 hours notice. “Would You Fight For My Love?” can be viewed on VEVO.
