NASHVILLE MAYOR ANNOUNCES REOPENING OF WALK OF FAME PARK WITH INDUCTION OF LORETTA LYNN AND JACK WHITE

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, joined by Metro Parks and the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp., today announced that GRAMMY-winning artists Loretta Lynn and Jack White will be inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame and join in the official ribbon-cutting of the newly-renovated Walk of Fame Park. The event will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 and is free and open to the public.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the reopening of Walk of Fame Park than with the induction of Loretta Lynn and Jack White – two very diverse artists,” Mayor Dean said. “They represent what is best about Nashville with music that spans multiple genres and generations. They are great ambassadors for the creative community in our city, and I congratulate them on this wonderful honor.”

Both the induction ceremony and ribbon-cutting celebration will take place at Walk of Fame Park on Demonbreun Street, between Third and Fourth Avenues. In addition to the inductions of Lynn and White, the new plaque design for all of the renovated stars will be unveiled.

“Individually, Loretta Lynn and Jack White have each made an enormous impact on Nashville’s music scene,” said Ken Levitan, NCVC Board Chair and President of Vector Management. “Collectively, the impact of their collaborations has been felt exponentially and worldwide. The Walk of Fame showcases our diverse history and illustrates to fans from all over the world why we are Music City.”

“The improvements at Walk of Fame Park will enable the city to take better advantage of one of the busiest event parks downtown,” said Tommy Lynch, director of Metro Parks and Recreation. “The park will feature more usable green space and better electrical and sound capabilities, and it continues to celebrate the Nashville Music Garden, which is home to nearly 300 roses, including some that are very rare.”

The Music City Walk of Fame was created in the fall of 2006 on Nashville’s Music Mile, a roughly one-mile stretch that connects downtown to Music Row.

The Walk of Fame is a landmark tribute to those from all genres of music who have made significant contributions to preserving the musical heritage of Nashville and have contributed to the world through song or other industry collaboration. With the addition of Loretta Lynn and Jack White, the Walk of Fame boasts 63 stars. Permanent sidewalk medallions with the artists’ name displayed in a star-and-guitar design will be installed in the sidewalk along the Music Mile.

The Music City Walk of Fame is an official project of Music City, Inc., the charitable foundation of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC), and is produced with the support of founding sponsor Gibson Guitar and sponsors Durango Boot, Hard Rock Café, the City of Nashville and Metro Parks. Nominations are open to the public and are accepted in the categories of Artist, Musician, Songwriter, and Producer/Music Industry Executive. Application forms are reviewed by the Music City Walk of Fame anonymous selection committee.

After many years of performing in a multitude of configurations, Jack White is announcing that he will be taking a break from performing live for a long period of time. To cap off an incredible run of shows promoting his latest album Lazaretto, and following what is shaping up to be a rollicking and fiery pair of headlining performances at this year’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival, Jack will embark on a short acoustic tour of the only five states left in the U.S. that he has yet to play. The states these shows are occurring in will be unannounced until the day of the performance. Joining Jack on his jaunt across these locations will be musicians making up an acoustic quartet, including Fats Kaplin, Lillie Mae Rische and Dominic Davis. The shows will be totally acoustic and amplified only with ribbon microphones to the audience as well. These shows will be the very first totally acoustic full concerts Jack White has ever done.

Each special acoustic performance will be announced day of show at 8am local time. Tickets for these engagements are priced at $3 per ticket and will be limited to one ticket per person. All tickets will be sold at the venue door starting at 12pm on the day of the show – first come, first served and cash only.

JACK WHITE: BILLBOARD COVER STORY ON NEWSSTANDS MARCH 10th

CONFIRMS EXCLUSIVE RELEASE OF ELVIS PRESLEY’S FIRST-EVER ALBUM FOR RECORD STORE DAY 2015

JWbb
Jack White recently sat down with Joe Levy for an in-depth Billboard magazine cover story interview. Jack and Joe discussed the resurgence of vinyl, music preservation and much more, but most importantly, Jack’s recent acquisition of an item many people feel is the holy grail of rock & roll history. Read the interview here. The issue will be on newsstands March 10th.

In the interview, Billboard reveals that Jack was the mystery high bidder on Elvis Presley’s first-ever record. Third Man Records will release this recording for Record Store Day 2015.

Utilizing the actual unrestored audio as it currently exists on the sole original copy of “My Happiness” b/w “That’s When Your Heartaches Begin” Third Man will make a limited facsimile, 10-inch 78rpm disc available on April 18, 2015. From reproducing the typewritten labels (printed on the reverse of extra Prisonaires labels that happened to be laying around Sun Records in July 1953) to being packaged in a plain, nondescript, of-the-era sleeve, the utmost attention to detail has been paid in order to create an object so close to the historic original as to almost be indistinguishable from one other.

Later this year, Third Man will release a widely available 7-inch 45rpm featuring newly restored versions of the two songs. Working from a transfer done by industry expert Alan Stoker at the Country Music Hall of Fame, the audio will be as clean as modern technology can make it without losing the feeling and soul that makes these two songs both haunting and breath-taking.

Listen to a clip of “My Happiness” and get a glimpse of this spinning piece of American musical history in this video.

JACK WHITE WINS TWO GRAMMY AWARDS

INCLUDING BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE FOR LAZARETTO TITLE TRACK

11 TOTAL CAREER GRAMMY WINS

Lazaretto
Lazaretto

Jack White is honored to accept this year’s GRAMMY award for Best Rock Performance for “Lazaretto,” the title track from his 2014 album Lazaretto (Third Man/Columbia). Jack and his own Third Man Records also hauled in GRAMMY gold for The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Vol. 1 (1917-27), for which Jack served as art director. The Paramount set won Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package.

These wins bring Jack’s career GRAMMY tallies to 11 wins and 29 nominations.

Lazaretto was released in June to rampant critical acclaim. The album’s sole vinyl configuration, the wildly innovative ULTRA LP, shattered decades-old vinyl sales records. It sold 40,000 units in the first seven days upon its release making it the fastest selling vinyl album ever. Additionally, the Lazaretto vinyl format sold a total of 86,707 copies by the end of 2014, resulting in Jack claiming the title of highest one-year vinyl sales during the Soundscan era.

Holy Guacamole!

To the students and staff of University of Oklahoma:

Jack White would love to thank all the concert attendees at his performance at the University of Oklahoma. The crowd was incredible and Mr. White played an extensive two and a half hour show for them. The students who helped organize the event were wonderful. Playing in, and for, the people of Oklahoma is one of Jack White’s favorite tour stops. At no time did Jack White or White’s management say that we would never play there again, that is untrue.

The incidents with the OU Daily student newspaper reporting the financial terms of the show, the private tour rider information, along with unsolicited photographers from their staff were unfortunate, unprofessional, and very unwelcoming. The show was one of many on this tour directed at playing for university students in their own environment. And the band were all completely thrilled with the performance and the crowd.

Incidentally, the most important function of a rider is that it lays out optimal technical specifications to ensure the audience has the best experience possible. For that, Jack hires a team of very qualified touring professionals who write the rider and attempt to execute a professional and pleasant experience for all involved. Part of that is making sure that the tour personnel of about 30 people plus the local venue staff are fed. Contrary to what some believe, Jack doesn’t write the rider nor make demands about his favorite snacks that must be in his dressing room. We’re not even sure he likes guacamole but we do know that the folks who work hard to put on the show do enjoy it.

(By the way, now that’s it out there, we recommend you try Lalo’s guacamole recipe. It’s delicious.)

We hope those present for Mr. White’s performance are able to maintain their good memories from the experience and he looks forward to seeing them again soon.

Sincerely,

Monotone Inc.
