ACOUSTIC BENEFIT AT HOBART, AUSTRALIA’S MONA RAISES $20,000 TO SUPPORT ROYAL HOBART HOSPITAL PEDIATRICS WARD

Having left a trail of ecstatically exhausted fans in its wake from Niagara Falls to Australia, Queens Of The Stone Age’s world tour in support of its international chart-topping seventh album Villains (Matador) has careened to a triumphant finish with its 129th show in Perth.

The year-plus Villains run saw QOTSA play for more than 1.7 million true believers, including:

* An all day affair at London’s Finsbury Park for a crowd of nearly 50,000

The Reading and Leeds festivals on the same day

* The first Queens Of The Stone Age headline show at Madison Square Garden

* A return to The Forum in Los Angeles, plus headlines at The O2 in London, Red Rocks, the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, the Stadthalle in Vienna, the Sportpaleis in Antwerp and more.

As the tour ground to a close, fans in Tasmania were treated to an intimate one-off acoustic set at MONA(Museum of Old and New Art) in Hobart  – a benefit that  generated $10,000 matched by QOTSA’s Joshua Homme’s own Sweet Stuff Foundation for a total of $20,000 to support the Royal Hobart Hospital Paediatrics Ward. The band visited the hospital the following day, presenting the donation to the hospital and gifts to its patients.

See Queens Of The Stone Age play a sweet acoustic “The Way You Used to Do” live from MONA here.

With the Villains tour put to rest, Homme is back at work on The Alligator Hour with Joshua Homme on Beats1 on Apple Music, which returned for it’s third season Tuesday, September 11 with new episodes through  Thursday, September 13 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. ” A galloping assault pitched between Devo and the Buzzcocks, with theremin sounds wailing like a supercomputer meltdown in a trashy ’50s sci-fi film.”—ROLLING STONE

“Sand-kicking surf-rock…an immediate crowd-please”—STEREOGUM

Step right up and take a trip through the eerie and macabre with Queens of the Stone Age as your tour guide —in their latest video, that is. The band has unveiled the latest creation for their “mile-a-minute Cramps-style rave-up” (UPROXX) “Head Like A Haunted House,” off their Grammy-nominated seventh album Villains (Matador).

Created, directed and art direction by frequent collaborator Liam Lynch, the video is a ghastly animated carnival ride through your worst fever-induced nightmares. Accompanied by disembodied hands, UFOs, smoldering hellscapes and grooving skeletons, Joshua Homme leads the way as he and his pack of mischief-makers sail through the nighttime sky on what else but flying coffins. Step right this way, if you dare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9byydi6cns

The 2018 Villains Tour continues to bring the heat and lay waste to capacity crowds, with the most recent round of fervent reviews clamoring for more:

“No one quite knows how to detonate a room like QotSA…Queens fuckin’ rock.” – EUGENE WEEKLY

“Potent…cage-rattling…Queens of the Stone Age proved it’s a rock ’n’ roll band that hasn’t lost its edge.”—SEATTLE TIMES

“It was a jailbreak from restraint, composure, moderation and other Friday night fun-ruiners, feet and hips emancipated first.”—LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

“Full-tilt swagger…much has been said about how rock n’ roll is dead…but Queens of the Stone Age will still be out there roaming loud and free, feeling the strings beneath their fingers and the wind in their hair, the feedback in their ears and the sunset in their eyes.”—VEGAS SEVEN

“There was a celebratory sense in the air, as if the year were ending, or even a treasonous presidency. Then, sharp as a switchblade, the band drove through five high-energy numbers in unnervingly perfect synchronicity…a bittersweet adrenaline bath, a furious blur of intensity and then out…the tightest gang in rock.”—ANTIQUIET

After a triumphant South American jaunt with brothers in arms Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age will make their return to the US later this month with stops including Austin (Austin360 Amphitheater) and Irving (The Pavillion at the Irving Music Factory) as well as Miami’s Bayfront Park Amphitheater, but not before kicking it all off with two sold out nights at San Diego’s Observatory North Park. Tickets are flying like bats out of hell, grab them now while you still can: http://www.qotsa.com

In addition to the slew of upcoming North American and European dates, Queens of the Stone Age will be headlining this summer at London’s Finsbury Park on June 30th—and they’re bringing friends. The band has curated a special lineup with guests including Iggy Pop, Run The Jewels, The Hives, Brody Dalle, and more.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

“THE WAY YOU USED TO DO” VIDEO NOW AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE

APPEARING ON THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW DECEMBER 14th

After previously being available exclusively through Apple Music, Queens Of The Stone Age have unleashed the wickedly entertaining video for “The Way You Used To Do” for all to see.

Written by Joshua Homme, directed by Jonas Akerlund and produced by Serial Pictures, “The Way You Used To Do” features a dance-fueled Satanic fever dream that only Queens Of The Stone Age could possibly deliver, set to the equally devilish yet nonetheless contagious first single off the band’s new album Villains— out now.

Joshua Homme on the unique collaboration with Akerlund:

“Dancing and headbanging are truly individualistic expressions of losing oneself fully in appreciation of music—who better to combine these things into a singular vision than someone who’s directed Madonna and Lady Gaga videos–and also happens to have been a member of Bathory?”

See the full video for yourself NOW.

Not enough Villains for you? Catch Queens Of The Stone Age as they make a special appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show December 14th. Check your local listings for specific air times.

Capping off the expansive and world-dominating Villains 2017 tour with a performance at the sold-out KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas next month, the band will be ready to obliterate 2018 with the latest slew of confirmed dates which are all currently on sale EXCEPT for Austin. Onsale for that date begins today, Nov. 17th at 10am local time.

On the tails of completing the most successful North American run of their storied career, Queens of the Stone Age have confirmed a second Stateside installment of the 2018 Villains World Tour. The new dates will begin with a March 21 and 22, 2018 two night stand in San Diego, and run through the end of May, including an April 24 appearance at the Austin 360 Amphitheater—the first QOTSA Austin headline show since 2011 and first time in the area since Austin City Limits 2013. The expanded Villains 2018 campaign will also feature stops in New Orleans, Miami and additional dates in Canada where Villains lead single “The Way You Used To Do” has reigned steadily atop the Alternative, Modern Rock and CAR radio charts.

Tickets go on sale Friday, November 10 at 10am local time (*with the exception of Austin which will be on sale Friday, November 17 at 10am local time).

Support acts on the new headline dates include Royal Blood (May 17-25) and Wolf Alice (April 24-May 2), with Eagles of Death Metal added to the recently announced January 22-30 run, and Ty Segall as special guest February 1 in San Francisco. See the itinerary below for full details.

The 2017 Villains Tour reaffirmed Queens of the Stone Age’s interminable prowess as live performers, culminating in an electrifying two-hour, 20-song, career-spanning set at New York’s hallowed Madison Square Garden – their first time headlining that stage – which garnered some of the most enthusiastic reviews the Queens have ever seen:

“On stage at MSG, where countless others have played rock shows before, Queens of the Stone Age come across as refreshing originals… massive and cool at the same time. It’s a hard rope to walk and one Queens of the Stone Age excels at.” – CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

“The seasoned rockers were on fire, leaving no doubts as to why they were born to play huge shows at high volumes. In the chaos of fast strobes, smoke machines, and saturated lights, QOTSA were rock solid and dominant, almost daring the effects to overshadow their all-encompassing sound (an impossible feat).” – PANCAKES AND WHISKEY

Other markets were just as blown away, with Port Chester, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Salt Lake City, Denver, St. Louis, Kansas City, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Detroit, Indianapolis, D.C., Boston, and Portland, ME selling out, leaving in their wake tens of thousands of satisfied fans and dozens of ecstatic reviewers:

“Queens of the Stone Age plays music that sounds like grunge and nü-metal never happened, and the sleazy, strip-club glam of 1980s hair metal was allowed to grow and mutate in new ways over the decades….Adding these elements together, they then pummel you with sheer volume. The music was muscular, sexy and loud, and the audience was even louder.”—PORTLAND PRESS HERALD

“A thing of beauty… a wonderfully ugly, gnarly, twisted batch of songs that offered equal parts release and rejoicing for the sold-out, cramped-but-lively crowd”—MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE

“[QOTSA] turned in a tight, muscular set with the black-clad quintet in ferocious lockstep amidst a stage full of slalom-like light poles… the show focused on Queens’ latest album “Villains,” whose melodic anthem “Fortress” was the best performance of the night, but the group sampled enough older favorites… to acknowledge the long-time fans in the sold-out crowd.” – THE OAKLAND PRESS

Produced by Mark Ronson and Queens Of The Stone Age, Villains was released August 25 on Matador Records. The album debuted at #1 in the UK, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland and Portugal, #2 in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Norway and Ireland, #3 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the U.S. album chart, #4 on Japan’s international chart and #5 in Italy—easily the single biggest global sales week of the Queens’ seven album stretch. Villains’ first seven days in existence also saw nearly 100,000 vinyl albums moved worldwide, as the record became the #1 selling vinyl LP in the UK, U.S. and Germany. Villains also took the U.S. #1 spots on the Alternative, Hard, Rock, Internet and Independent Label Album charts and #2 on the Digital Album sales chart.

Queens Of The Stone Age are Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and Jon Theodore.

2018 VILLAINS NORTH AMERICA TOUR DATES CONFIRMED

TICKETS ON SALE OCTOBER 27

Having lain waste to grateful capacity crowds from Chicago’s Riot Fest to Denver’s Red Rocks to the 30,000+ strong throng at the recent CalJam 17—and with a first ever headline engagement at New York’s Madison Square Garden barely a week away—Queens Of The Stone Age announce the first 2018 installment of the ongoing and ever intensifying Villains North American touring campaign.

The new dates, which begin January 22, 2018 in Victoria BC and include headline stops at The Forum in Los Angeles and Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, will be on sale from October 27.

The 2018 shows are announced in the wake of every North American date on the current run having sold out while generating the most ecstatic responses of the Queens’ touring history, with recent raves including:

“Queens can go dark and sinister with the best arena-rock bands of the last two decades.”—CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Awesome… while Villains under Ronson’s guidance brings out the dance-floor undertones from the group, Queens is still a band that rocks hard, evident at its intense Milwaukee show Sunday for a sold-out crowd”—MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

“A thing of beauty… a wonderfully ugly, gnarly, twisted batch of songs that offered equal parts release and rejoicing for the sold-out, cramped-but-lively crowd”—MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE

“Immense power… Very few bands can put the hammer down so heavy while getting so ethereal on the top”—PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: VILLAINS STEALS TOP SPOTS ON CHARTS WORLDWIDE

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

VILLAINS STEALS TOP SPOTS ON CHARTS WORLDWIDE

#1 DEBUT ON U.S. ALBUM CHART

Critical Smash Seventh Album Debuts at #1 in Seven Countries

“(FOUR STARS) Suggesting latter-day Led Zep if they’d wrapped their head around New Wave… a galloping assault pitched between Devo and the Buzzcocks… Headbangers may be put off that QOTSA is now targeting feet and asses; too bad for them.”—ROLLING STONE

“A 100% hit-rate exceedingly rare for rock bands with 20 years in the game… Many younger acts start running on steam in hardly half the time that QOTSA’s managed to maintain their grease-fire fuel source, making their continued vitality not only impressive but reassuringly inspiring. It remains unclear whether Homme would like us to see him as hero or villain, but there’s no disputing that his example is one that every other band should be striving to follow either way.”—STEREOGUM

“Homme’s rock ’n’ roll instincts are still as keen as ever… even more miraculous is the notion that Queens of the Stone Age have perhaps yet to hit their creative peak—no small feat for any band”—PASTE

“The grooviest record the alt-rock mainstays have released… the results thrill.”—PEOPLE

“Purposeful and sinister … like a snarling, evil thing cut loose and raging. I couldn’t ask this band for more.”—VULTURE

“An utterly unique institution in contemporary music, a smart and contrarian hard-rock behemoth… affects a veneer of bravado that nonetheless feels wounded and vulnerable… hearing Homme, rock’s reigning man’s man, sing so openly about personal weakness is bracing.”—UPROXX

The critics and the people—hey, everyone’s a critic right?—have spoken:

Queens Of The Stone Age’s monolithic seventh album, Villains, released August 25 on Matador Records, has stolen the hearts and souls of the music-loving (and purchasing) populace the world over.

Villains debuted at #1 in the UK, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland and Portugal, #2 in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Norway and Ireland, #3 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the U.S. album chart, #4 on Japan’s international chart and #5 in Italy—easily the single biggest global sales week of the Queens’ seven album stretch.

Villains’ first seven days in existence also saw nearly 100,000 vinyl albums moved worldwide, as the record became the #1 selling vinyl LP in the UK, U.S. and Germany.

In other good news on the band’s U.S. home front, Villains also took the #1 spot on the Alternative, Hard, Rock, Internet and Independent Label Album charts and #2 on the Digital Album sales chart.

With the unlikely pairing of producer Mark Ronson and Queens Of The Stone Age now a scientifically proven success,  Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and Jon Theodore will take the new songs on the road this week, opening the North American leg of the Villains world tour with a long since sold out show September 6 at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY. Tickets for the massive run, which includes the band’s first ever headline at New York’s Madison Square Garden, have already sold out at Colorado’s famed Red Rocks, as well as in Grand Rapids, Cleveland, St. Louis, Kansas City, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Washington DC, Boston, Portland ME and more to go clean soon…

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

“THE WAY YOU USED TO DO” VIDEO

ALL HELLZAPOPPIN’ BREAKS LOOSE IN SATANIC DANCE PRODUCTION

WRITTEN BY JOSHUA HOMME & DIRECTED BY JONAS AKERLUND

PREVIEW NOW: http://mat-r.co/QOTSA_Preview

FULL VIDEO AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY AT http://mat-r.co/QOTSA_Video

“Dancing and headbanging are truly individualistic expressions of losing oneself fully in appreciation of music—who better to combine these things into a singular vision than someone who’s directed Madonna and Lady Gaga videos–and also happens to have been a member of Bathory?”—Joshua Homme

“The Way You Used To Do,” the recently released first single from Queens Of The Stone Age’s ominously approaching seventh album Villains, has been realized as a fever dream Satanic dance ritual extravaganza—featuring QOTSA founder and frontman Joshua Homme lighter on his feet and darker in his soul than ever before.

Conceived by Joshua Homme, directed by Jonas Akerlund and produced by Serial Pictures, “The Way You Used To Do,” somehow fit its multiple sets, wardrobe changes and intricate dance routines into one day of shooting August 8th in Los Angeles. Considering potential reactions to the sinister shuffle of “The Way We Used To Do” being translated into a panoramic soul-selling dance trip, Homme says “It’s our way of paying tribute to Cab Calloway and the film Hellzapoppin’. I fully realize that may be a little more than some are open to, and that’s perfectly fine with me. There’s the door. If some of the more close-minded are gently pruned, that just leaves more room on the dance floor for the open-minded ones to get loose. That’s been the spirit of Queens Of The Stone Age and the space we’ve worked to create from day one.”

With recently released second track “The Evil Has Landed” hailed by Rolling Stone as “a sprawling and diabolical new rocker” featuring “Homme singing in a falsetto that sounds both sweet and sinister,” Villains was co-produced by Mark Ronson and will be released August 25th on Matador Records. The album is available now for pre-order at http://smarturl.it/Villains.

The colossal Villains tour begins September 6th with a sold out show in Port Chester NY and will see the Queens playing directly before Foo Fighters and alongside Cage The Elephant, The Kills, Liam Gallagher, Japandroids and more at the massive Cal Jam 17 October 7th at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernadino, CA. Tickets for the headline dates—which feature support from Royal Blood–are available at http://smarturl.it/QOTSALive.

Queens Of The Stone Age is Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and Jon Theodore.

(FOUR STARS) Heroic stuff…Homme had already done more than anyone of his generation to pump new heart into rock. Now with an unlikely ally, he’s revived the soul too.”–MOJO

“As badass as ever…our first taste of Villains sounds like what the bluesman Slim Harpo might have put out if he’d grown up in the age of energy drinks, MTV, and Adderall — and in Palm Springs.”—VULTURE

“This is Queens of The Stone Age at their dangerously-sexy best… let ‘em hold their futile funerals for rock n’ roll. We’ll be dancing on the grave, collars up, Villains on high.”—ANTIQUIET
