After the Disco
After the Disco

“James Mercer and Brian Burton were two dark silhouettes against the swirling vortex of outer space in an act that was as impressive for its music as it was for its dynamic lighting.” – DALLAS MORNING NEWS

“It was a polished set of spacey rock…the visual component deserves special attention. The stellar-themed visualization behind the band shifted through the solar system before ultimately landing on a gorgeous sparkling scene with warm golden lighting, which may or may not have elicited an audible ‘ohh’ from me.” – AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN

“The team-up of Mercer and producer/songwriter Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, makes for something extra special…The duo’s performance dripped with talent.” – FLAGPOLE

Broken Bells are happy to premiere their new video for the title track from their second album, After the Disco (Columbia). Directed by Nelson de Castro, the video initially chronicles the moments after the party ends through a series of comings and goings from various rooms. The storyline is eventually flipped when the camera’s rotation is reversed to depict the lead in to a night filled with dancing. Watch the video here.

Brian Burton and James Mercer recently embarked on a new leg of their North American tour which will see the duo bring their infectious grooves and melodies to venues and festivals throughout the Midwest and West Coast. THIRD MAN RECORDS PRESENTS VAULT PACKAGE #22

Vault Package #22
Vault Package #22

On June 14th of this year, Jack White unleashed arguably the single best performance in the 13 year history of the Bonnaroo festival.

In an expansive field in Manchester, TN, filled with approximately 70,000 fans, White let loose a tour-de-force, 26-song, two-hour and forty-five minute career-spanning set. From White Stripes songs like “Hotel Yorba” and “Icky Thump” to Raconteurs numbers such as “Top Yourself” and “Steady, As She Goes” through “Blue Blood Blues” by the Dead Weather…not to mention a wide selection of his solo material and covers of two surf rock classics “Pipeline” by the Chantays and “Misirlou” by Dick Dale. And Led Zeppelin’s “The Lemon Song”? He did that too.

In order to celebrate a show of such historical heft, Third Man Records has decided to dedicate the entirety of it’s 22nd Vault package to this performance.

Three vinyl LPs (white, blue and black), housed in a soft-touch, telescoping box, topped off with a lenticular television on the cover…this is by far the most ambitious Vault package yet. The audio has been mixed by Third Man’s in house engineer, three time Grammy Award-winner Vance Powell and stands as a marked improvement over the on-the-fly board mix heard in webcasts, YouTube uploads and shady downloads.

In addition, there will be a DVD of the FULL performance, re-edited from the original raw footage by Brad Holland (filmmaker extraordinaire), for a truly memorable visual document of the evening.

We could’ve stopped there…but anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right?

Also included in the package will be four high-quality 8×10 photographs from the evening shot by David Swanson. Suitable for framing, timeless, these will increase the value of your home tenfold.

(said to the guys in production) “Is that all? NO?!?!? Are you kidding me? What else could we offer?”

Apparently we’ve lost our minds and gone as for to include a customized Jack White patch, a replica backstage pass sticker AND a poster in this beast of a package.

You want a custom-designed USB with super-secret extra added bonus materials too? Have at it.

If this package doesn’t make you happy…nothing will.

Subscriptions are open now, get yours in before the October 31st deadline.

Anthology 1964-1971

September 10, 1964, some 50 years ago, The Kinks had their first number one with the classic “You Really Got Me” and the rest is rock n roll history.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, a must-have 5-disc box set spanning the peerless output from that landmark year through 1971 will see a December 16 U.S. release via BMG/InGrooves.

The Anthology 1964-1971 features over 100 songs across 5 CDs, the most comprehensive collection of The Kinks seminal 1960s and early 1970s Pye label recordings ever released. Newly remastered, the box set features rare demos, interviews, alternate mixes, session outtakes, 25 previously unavailable tracks and extensive liner notes all in a beautiful box set.

This essential release includes many timeless gems including “You Really Got Me”, “Stop Your Sobbing”, “All Day And All of the Night”, “Till The End of The Day”, “A Well Respected Man”, “Sunny Afternoon”, “Dead End Street”, “Waterloo Sunset”, “David Watts”, “Autumn Almanac”, “Days”, “Picture Book” and “The Village Green Preservation Society”.

The Anthology 1964-1971 is arguably the crown jewel of an extensive re-release program covering the band’s classic 1964-1970 catalogue. The first installment was last month’s 2-disc expanded edition of 1970’s “Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One” featuring Mono and Stereo mixes, unreleased material and alternative versions, the 1971 soundtrack album Percy and more. The Kinks 50th Anniversary campaign will continue through 2015 with additional projects and reissues to be announced as details are confirmed.
