JACK WHITE AND THIRD MAN RECORDS INTRODUCE THE LAZARETTO ULTRA LP

Lazaretto
Lazaretto

Over the past five years, Jack White & Third Man Records have brought to life many ideas that were new to the century-old vinyl format. So when it came time for the creative hive to discuss the vision for the pressing of Jack’s Lazaretto, Third Man were keenly aware of what it would take to produce a piece of wax worthy of the music it would contain… No single innovation would suffice. We needed to go big. We needed to go bold. We needed to press an ULTRA LP:

  • 180 gram vinyl
  • 2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels
  • 1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM and 1 plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record
  • Side A plays from the outside in
  • Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for “Just One Drink” depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song.
  • Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record
  • Both sides end with locked grooves
  • Vinyl pressed in seldom-used  flat-edged format
  • Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record
  • Absolutely zero compression used during recording, mixing and mastering
  • Different running order from the CD/digital version
  • Utilizes some mixes different from those used on CD/digital versions

Both the Lazaretto ULTRA LP and the Vault version of the Lazaretto LP contain all ULTRA LP features. Both will also come with an MP3 download card. Pre-orders for the Lazaretto ULTRA LP begin today. Lazaretto will be officially released June 10 on Third Man Records/Columbia.

BECK ADDS JULY/AUGUST DATES

Beck © Peter Hapak (LOW RES)
Beck © Peter Hapak (LOW RES)

As 2014 album of the year front-runner Morning Phase (Capitol) refuses to budge from the top 40, Beck has extended his rapturously received current tour by nearly a dozen new dates. The newly announced shows begin July 11 at the Uptown Amphitheater in Charlotte, NC and run through the summer — including appearances at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium, at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, and concluding with a sure-to-be-legendary August 14 headline at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO.

As anyone who caught jaw-dropping recent turns at Coachella, last month’s Austin City Limits TV performance (to air this fall a date TBA in the venerable PBS series’ 40th anniversary season) or elsewhere can attest, Beck’s upcoming dates are not be missed. A glance at the reviews of this most recent run easily puts them among the most enthusiastic raves of his — or anyone’s — career:

“Inside a three-tier-brimming ACL Live at the Moody Theater last night, from the first song to the last… Beck rocked the flock… hypnotized the hall… hard in lyric and voice, but cushioned by singer-songwriter intimacy… crescendoing into a Zeppelin-like stomp…. tapped serious delirium from both band and audience”–AUSTIN CHRONICLE

“Like a fisherman casting a lure, Beck on Sunday night offered a lesson in how to draw a tired, coming-down crowd and muster one more burst of adrenalin… In doing so, he presented a convincing argument as being a godfather to this holy Coachella mess, one in which said pop music sub genres could not only live harmoniously but also spawn a new vibe”-LOS ANGELES TIMES

“Stunning… a glorious sampler, as sonorously rich as his brilliant new album”-OC REGISTER

“A classic, spontaneous Beck performance”-ROLLING STONE 50 Best Things We Saw At Coachella 2014

Citi is the official credit card of the Beck Tour. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets through its Citi Private Pass program beginning Wednesday, May 7 at 10AMlocal time through Thursday, May 8 at 10PM local. Visit www.citiprivatepass.com for details.

BROKEN BELLS GIVE AWAY BLUEPRINTS FOR 3D-PRINTED MODELS

SUMMER 2014 TOUR ON SALE NOW

Broken Bells 3D Models
Broken Bells 3D Models

Broken Bells fans, the future is now. True to the futuristic and other-worldly vibe of their current albumAfter the Disco (Columbia), Brian Burton and James Mercer are joining the nascent movement of 3D printing by releasing free blueprints for Broken Bells themed 3D-printed models.

The 3D blueprint files for the two Broken Bells collectibles have been posted HERE. Anyone with access to a 3D printer can download these files and watch the future and present become one on their virtual and physical desktops.

Both models are based on the visual concepts created by artistic director Jacob Escobedo: the familiar pink orb that first appeared on the band’s gold-certified debut album, as well as a figurine of the space girl (played by Kate Mara) from the Broken Bells featurette “After the Disco.” For those without access to a 3D printer, Fast Company is giving away three of these models.

As mentioned, this isn’t the first time Broken Bells have had their hands in making the future a reality. During their recent West Coast tour, the band donated a dollar from every ticket sold to the B612 Foundation which is developing a system to better protect Earth from asteroids while learning more about space. Broken Bells and B612 hosted a rooftop party at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles following the band’s performance on April 15. During the party, Mercer and Burton were joined by astronaut Rusty Schweickart and Dr. Marc Buie who is the mission specialist behind B612’s Sentinel project.

Broken Bells continue this partnership and their tour in support of After the Disco with expanded tour dates recently announced. A full itinerary is below. Keep an eye on www.brokenbells.com for further updates.

BEAUTY & RUIN OUT JUNE 3 ON MERGE RECORDS

Bob Mould has unveiled yet another tantalizing peek at his forthcoming studio album, Beauty & Ruin. This latest glimpse comes in the form of the album’s phenomenal lead single, “I Don’t Know You Anymore.”

“I Don’t Know You Anymore” is a classic bittersweet Mould tour de force in a tradition stretching from 2012’s Silver Age to his legendary Hüsker Dü and Sugar singles. Belying its tapestry of brightly melodic power chords and unmistakable Mouldian melodies, “I Don’t Know You Anymore” features Bob in fine, caustic lyrical form, laying out his frustrations concerning a relationship gone sour.

“I Don’t Know You Anymore” is now streaming on SoundCloud: http://bit.ly/1k2suBd and is available for purchase from iTunes.

The “I Don’t Know You Anymore” single premiere follows the recent unveiling of album track “Hey Mr. Grey,” (streaming here). Attendees of Bob Mould’s recent SXSW shows were treated to several Beauty & Ruin tracks and can attest: this is not an album to be missed.

Available for pre-order now at Merge and iTunesBeauty & Ruin will be released by Merge Records June 3 in North America, June 9 in the UK and Europe. Bob is backed on the album by his longtime band of Jason Narducy (bass/backing vocals) and Jon Wurster (drums).

PAUL McCARTNEY IS GETTING BACK “OUT THERE”

TWO MORE U.S. SHOWS CONFIRMED FOR SUMMER 2014

August 5 – Missoula, MT – Washington-Grizzly Stadium
August 12 – Phoenix, AZ – US Airways Center

Paul McCartney © MJ Kim

Following an incredible 2013 which saw Paul McCartney’s universally acclaimed Out There tour launch in Brazil and visit 23 cities across South America, Europe, North America and Japan, Paul has confirmed another five shows on the 2014 U.S. Out There tour. Currently tearing through Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Costa Rica, with Paul’s return to Japan and debut in Korea set for next month, the upcoming Out There 2014 world tour will now feature five more U.S. dates:

* Paul will make his first ever appearance in Missoula, Montana when the Out There tour rolls into Washington-Grizzly Stadium onAugust 5.

* Paul will return to Phoenix, AZ for an August 12 show at the US Airways Center, his first date in the area since the March 2010 opener of the Up and Coming Tour.

The Out There tour, as always, features music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, as Paul performs songs spanning his entire career-as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle. The set list will also include material from Paul’s most recent studio album NEW, a global hit upon its release last year.

The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived; music which for many has shaped the very soundtrack of their lives. The last decade has seen Paul and his band perform in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, Buckingham Palace, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people, and even broadcast live into Space! Featuring Paul’s band of the last 10+ years-Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums)-the show never disappoints.

The tour also uses state of the art technology and production to ensure the entire audience has the best possible experience. With massive screens, lasers, fireworks, unique video content and, of course, the best songs in the world, a Paul McCartney show is so much more than just an ordinary concert. Paul’s shows attract a multi generational audience from different backgrounds all brought together by his music.

2014 got off to an incredible start for Paul as he set a personal career best by winning an incredible five GRAMMY Awards in one night. In the UK he was honored by music bible NME with a special one off award, the ‘Songwriter’s Songwriter Award’ chosen for this unique accolade by his fellow peers.

Tickets for the Phoenix, AZ date will be on sale Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m. local time. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Thursday, May 1 at 10 a.m. through Sunday, May 4 at 10 p.m.

THE CRITICS WEIGH IN ON PAUL McCARTNEY’s OUT THERE U.S. TOUR 2013:

AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN

“Two songs into the first of two shows at the Erwin Center, Paul McCartney announced, ‘we are going to have a party here tonight.’ For three hours on Wednesday night, McCartney fueled that party with a mix of hits from his days with the Beatles and his later career with Wings, showing off his skill as a writer of both simple, poignant ballads and more complex rock pieces… left the crowd alternating between singalong and awe… a big, joyous trip.”

AUSTIN CHRONICLE

“The still ‘cute’ Beatle played 38 songs in two hours and 45 minutes Thursdaynight at the Erwin Center. McCartney, not rock & roll, may be the universal language… You may only ever see Paul McCartney live once, but it’ll define a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

BOSTON GLOBE

“Thanks to his unparalleled repertoire, his miraculously still-marvelous voice, and the skills of his crackerjack, four-man backing band, even the most intimate moments – a delicate, solo acoustic ‘Blackbird’ or the chills-inducing ‘Eleanor Rigby’ – were as captivating as brawny, spectacle-assisted rockers like ‘Back in the U.S.S.R.'”

BOSTON HERALD

“McCartney packed his latest Fenway show – he sold the park out twice in 2009 – with Beatles classics, Wings hits, and a few odd nuggets… The legend did so many things well it’s hard to find an entry point… There was hugging, there were tears, there was a 35,000-strong singalong. Everyone knew the epics were coming, everyone knew they would be cathartic. But this guy born in 1942 – this working-class Liverpool lad who’s been playing some of these songs for 50 years (!) – made us feel the love.”

EXPRESS MILWAUKEE

“For three sweaty hours and two encores, fans got to bask in the presence of a legend who seemed genuinely glad to be there, and who still commands the star power to drive a crowd of nearly 44,000 giddy with the smallest gesture.”

INDIANAPOLIS STAR

“… dazzling show of enduring hits… McCartney didn’t hesitate to salute the American music that shaped his career”

MEMPHIS COMMERCIAL APPEAL

“… the Beatles legend left a capacity crowd buzzing… McCartney’s concert at the arena reaffirmed his place as the popular champion… a nearly 40-song, three-hour set of Beatles classics, rarities, tributes and favorites from his Wings and solo catalog, a truly epic and awe-inspiring performance.”

MEMPHIS FLYER

“… though the show was dominated by classics from several different periods of the 50-odd years this remarkable artist/icon has been performing, there was no oldies-show aura to any of it… McCartney’s refusal to age or to go gentle into dilapitude or obsolescence is uncanny. His lithe and youthful appearance was matched on Sunday night by his seemingly undiminished stage energy.”

MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

“McCartney treated the crowd… the largest attendance for a non-baseball event in Miller Park history, to 38 songs and nearly three hours of material… including a handful of songs – including ‘Another Day’ and the playfully simple ‘All Together Now’ – McCartney said weren’t performed before this tour.”

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

“It’s amazing that, with a catalogue more exposed and beloved than any of the last 50 years, McCartney could find something fresh to give fans. It’s equally unlikely, and pleasing, that… he could deliver these songs with such verve and verisimilitude.”

THE NEW YORK TIMES

“Paul McCartney played a tight and polished headlining show Friday at the Bonnaroo festival… He sounded strong and energized… It was a bit like a performance from a head of state, and the enormous crowd held its respect through nearly all of it: walking against the flow of faces, you saw a remarkable kind of quiet concentration… In a scene where music from different stages is always competing in the air, sometimes aggressively, your ear gravitates toward these kinds of musicians, who seem to be giving you something rather than selling it.”

NEWSDAY

“Paul McCartney is always up for a challenge. His two-hour-and-40-minute set was also a model of efficiency, barely breaking between songs for more than a few words of banter or a quick story… what made his show memorable were the songs – and the chance to see McCartney himself. It doesn’t get much more rock and roll than that.”

NUVO NEWSWEEKLY

“Opening with the 1964 Beatles’ classic, ‘Eight Days A Week,’ Paul brought the energy throughout his three-hour set, playing an expansive mix of Beatles, Wings and solo material.”

ORLANDO SENTINEL

“At its heart, every McCartney performance is a reminder of the unmatched inspiration and influence of timeless Beatles music, the soundtrack of a band that legitimately changed the world…the show was a testament to McCartney’s own longevity… a legend, one of the rare pop musicians to really deserve that over-used title.”

ORLANDO WEEKLY

“There are certain things you expect from an arena show (glitz/glam), and there are certain things you expect from a music legend (hits/banter)… the show crazy-delivered on both counts… Sir Paul bested even his FX team with rocking, fearless vocals… McCartney’s fans were a mix of old and young. He blew kisses to all of them throughout the show; I swear, you could see them floating like little hearts through the neon lights. I had the pleasure of sitting across the aisle from an actual screaming teenage girl, who bobbed and cried and shrieked, her phone overhead pumping it repeatedly. She wore braces and at one point shook so hard, her orthodontic wax fell on the floor… even a music legend can continue giving his fans something extra… there was nothing to do but love McCartney do.”

ROLLING STONE

(BONNAROO) “Seeing the 70-year-old Beatle, whose voice has hardly aged a day since Please Please Me, play universally loved, time-transcending staples like ‘Let It Be,’ ‘Eight Days a Week’ and ‘Yesterday’ – selections from inarguably the most influential song book in pop music history – in 2013 (and all in their original keys!) is like being able to go see Abraham Lincoln deliver the Gettysburg Address in person. It’s a privilege for anyone born in the last half century to hear this music performed live, in the moment, and with such grace, by the man who composed them. That wasn’t lost on the 80,000-or-so elated festivalgoers that congregated for Macca’s extraordinary performance… the single greatest Bonnaroo headlining performance in the festival’s 12-year history, as it was moment after awesome moment of fever-pitched collective transcendence. ‘Paperback Writer,’ ‘Maybe I’m Amazed,’ ‘Band on the Run,’ ‘Blackbird,’ ‘Something; (played in tribute to George Harrison), ‘Eleanor Rigby,’ ‘We Can Work It Out,’ ‘Hey Jude’ – to have not gotten swept up in and invigorated by the life-affirming celebration would be an outright rejection of joy… Now the question is, how will Bonnaroo ever top this?”

(OUTSIDE LANDS) “… the biggest fireworks at Outside Lands’ opening ceremony – literally and figuratively – came with the day’s anchor act… Paul McCartney. Some fans found the performance cathartic. Some cried. Others had wide smiles from start to finish. Nearly everyone understood the weight of Sir Paul tearing soulfully through Beatles and Wings numbers with the conviction of the person who wrote those songs – ‘Blackbird,’ ‘Paperback Writer,’ ‘Hey Jude,’ ‘Eleanor Rigby,’ ‘Let It Be,’ and so on and so forth – which, individually and collectively, helped shape our very idea of rock & roll… moved virtually every single person in the field, including security guards and food vendors.”

(BARCLAYS CENTER, BROOKLYN) “It’s nearly impossible to feel anything but excitement watching McCartney play many of the greatest rock songs ever written, and he’s careful to bring more than a few surprises each time he comes around… McCartney clearly lives for this. Crazy as it sounds, he very well might pull a Chuck Berry and still be at this late into his eighties. Why the hell not?”

THE SEATTLE TIMES

“… a moment in history… Sir Paul McCartney played to a sold-out crowd of 47,000 people at Safeco Field on Friday… There won’t be a more historic concert in Seattle this year than Paul McCartney’s show on Friday night. That was a given even before McCartney came on stage, as it was Safeco’s first-ever concert. But McCartney made it a night for the ages by playing an inspired set of mostly Beatles songs, and ending with a Nirvana reunion, of sorts… It was magnificent.”

SEATTLE POST INTELLIGENCER

“… one of the best I’ve seen… nothing short of a fan’s dream. This was about as close to perfect as it gets. McCartney himself remains a force of nature… he has clearly inherited the mantle of ‘world’s oldest teenager.'”

SF WEEKLY

“Last night in Golden Gate Park, tens of thousands of people sang along… The words, the melodies, and the voice carrying them arrived like a burst of long-captive air – familiar, yet revelatory. Soul-stirring, even… sung by Paul McCartney, who for the first night of Outside Lands 2013 took a sold-out San Francisco audience back to one of pop music’s original supernovas, and let us bask in its incredible warmth for the best part of three hours… Sir Paul can still sing, still play, and still charm… So the question of whether or not it was a ‘good’ show almost doesn’t apply – Paul McCartney… was good in a way that no other show could be.”

TULSA WORLD

“He gave his fans what they came for, with a set including nearly three dozen hits over 2 1/2 hours. Fans shot to their feet, clapping and cheering, twisting and singing, as McCartney blasted into ‘Eight Days a Week.’ Grown women cried. Their husbands held them tight as McCartney let loose the soundtrack of rock ‘n’ roll history… His voice strong, his stature strait-backed, the affable British Invasion pioneer thanked the crowd for the warm welcome… A woman handed a packet of tissues down an aisle, eyes moist. Down the aisle it went until it was nearly empty.”

THE WASHINGTON POST

“McCartney sends all his loving to D.C. audience, and they send it back… There he was, 71 years old and forever young, presiding over another evening of civic ecstasy on another American ball field. And the guy made it all look so easy-breezy, with sly grins, and knowing nods, and four backing musicians who summoned big sounds with calm assurance.”

EVERYDAY ROBOTS OUT TOMORROW, APRIL 29

Damon Albarn will be making his way from Governor’s Ball to Bonnaroo this June and is pleased to confirm some new U.S. stops in between. In additional to his previously announced festival dates, Damon will headline New York’s Irving Plaza followed by stops in Boston, Baltimore, Raleigh and Atlanta. A limited number of Damon Albarn VIP packages will be available for these dates, visit damonalbarnmusic.com for details on these and general on-sale dates.

Tomorrow, Damon’s first ever solo record Everyday Robots will hit stores and digital retailers across the country. Reviews have already started to roll in, all hailing this intensely beautiful and deeply personal solo debut from one of the most innovative and respected musical voices of this or any era:

“All of Albarn’s musical obsessions are present on his revealing solo debut… The results can often recall Seventies Eno at his most meditative and Village Green-era Ray Davies… With a restless innovator like Albarn, where you’re going always matters more than where you’ve been.”–ROLLING STONE, 4 Stars

“a dark, compellingly insular album-bracing in its honesty, a bit haunted in its arrangements, vividly fragmented in the way that memory can be. It’s the sound of a man who has many regrets but doesn’t really regret any of them.”–GQ

“a refreshing, richly dense, heart-stopping moment of quiet panic, slow-burning over acoustic plucks and fluttering with washes of uncanny ease…Taking a trip down the rabbit hole with Damon Albarn playing in the background makes one thing clear: diversity has always been his sole consistency, and in that respect, I hope he never stays the same.”–CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

“Everyday Robots is without a doubt the most personal album in Albarn’s long and incredibly varied career. Its songs have a collage-like texture that make them feel like hand-pasted scrapbook pages-the sound of long-dormant memories rustling suddenly back to life.”-PITCHFORK

PAUL McCARTNEY GETS BACK TO CANDLESTICK PARK & DODGER STADIUM

“OUT THERE” 2014 CALIFORNIA DATES CONFIRMED:

August 10 – Los Angeles, CA – Dodger Stadium

August 14 – San Francisco, CA – Candlestick Park

Following an incredible 2013 which saw Paul McCartney’s Out There tour launch in Brazil and visit 23 cities across South America, Europe, North America and Japan, Paul has now confirmed two more very special shows on the 2014 U.S. Out There tour.

Currently tearing through Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Costa Rica, with Paul’s return to Japan and debut in Korea set for next month, the Out There 2014 world tour is now confirmed to visit the same pair of U.S. cities where The Beatles played their two very last shows:

* Putting the rumor mill to rest, Paul has confirmed that he will indeed return to San FranciscoAugust 14 to play Farewell to Candlestick: The Final Concert. This once in a lifetime occasion is sure to be doubly bittersweet as Paul closes the same iconic venue where The Beatles played their final concert date on August 29, 1966. Of Paul’s most recent visit to San Francisco, headlining last year’s Outside Lands festival, the SF Weekly gushed “one of pop music’s original supernovas… let us bask in its incredible warmth for the best part of three hours… the question of whether or not it was a ‘good’ show almost doesn’t apply – Paul McCartney… was good in a way that no other show could be.”

* A few days earlier on August 10, Paul will play Dodger Stadium for the first time since The Beatles’ penultimate live gig on August 28, 1966. The show will be Paul’s first L.A. engagement since the 2010 two-night stand at the Hollywood Bowl of which the Los Angeles Times raved “It’s hard to think of much in the pop music world more impressive than a 67-year-old musician holding forth for nearly three hours, outdoors on a chilly March night, while delivering some three dozen songs, the least of which would be a career highlight for almost any other artist.”

The Out There tour, as always, features music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, as Paul performs songs spanning his entire career — as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle.

Featuring Paul’s band of the last 10+ years-Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums) — the show never disappoints.

In the UK he was honored by music bible NME with a special one off award, the “Songwriter’s Songwriter Award” chosen for this unique accolade by his fellow peers.

Tickets for the newly announced dates will be on sale Monday, May 5 at 10am local time.

American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Thursday, May 1 at 10am through Sunday, May 4 at 10pm.

Keep checking PaulMcCartney.com for further announcements.
