Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have added three new shows to their upcoming North American tour in support of their rapturously received album CARNAGE.

Tickets to the newly added dates — March 10 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, March 16 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, and March 29 at the Lincoln Theatre
in Washington, D.C. — can be purchased at nickcave.com beginning Friday, February 4 at 10am local time.

Additionally, Cave and Ellis will bring CARNAGE to American homes March 2 when they perform on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

While they have composed and recorded soundtracks together, and Ellis is a long-term member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, CARNAGE is the first full album of songs Cave and Ellis have released as a duo. The pair’s creative chemistry is rooted in their long history of music making, both as collaborators and as individual artists. They first crossed paths in 1993, when Ellis played violin on several songs for the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album Let Love In, before going on to join the band as a full-time member. The two have also recorded in Grinderman, formed in 2006, and have worked together on numerous film and TV scores.

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis’ new album CARNAGE is out now.

“Some heavy, tormented records that reflect the pulverizing grief of the post-pandemic world feel like they might crush a listener; others offer the consolation of a weighted blanket. CARNAGE, the first official album from Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds bandmate Warren Ellis, is the latter, rumbling toward catharsis through impenetrable noise and jarring lyricism balanced precariously on sudden celestial arrangements.” —THE NEW YORKER

“(4 stars)… two Bad Seeds confront loneliness, cabin fever, and white supremacy — while still showing a glint of optimism… as sparse as it sounds, there’s great depth to CARNAGE.” —ROLLING STONE

“… the pair find an awe-filled beauty in the both the minutiae of the everyday and the immensity of existence… a moving, transportive meditation on what comes after—after grief, after life, after love—and finds reasons to keep going.” —AV CLUB

“… at turns brutal, surreal, and romantic… draws from the formal language of modern cinema, concerned less with verses and choruses than images, settings, visceral portrayals of extreme emotional states.” —PITCHFORK

“It’s been a hell of a year, and perhaps a glimpse of heaven is a better prescription than a war cry… what Cave and Ellis have crafted with CARNAGE is a refreshing respite from chaos, a record that sits at the burning edge of dawn and anticipates destruction’s undoing.” —CONSEQUENCE

“… stunningly, heartbreakingly beautiful… CARNAGE is brutal in a spiritual sense more than a stylistic one, approaching these moments of elemental beauty only after traversing rocky ground.” —STEREOGUM

GHOST: NEW ALBUM, IMPERA, OUT MARCH 11 ON LOMA VISTA RECORDINGS

GHOST

IMPERA

NEW ALBUM OUT MARCH 11 ON LOMA VISTA RECORDINGS

“Call Me Little Sunshine” Single and Video Live Now

“We’re building our empire from the ashes of an old” as GRAMMY-winning Swedish theatrical rock outfit GHOST announces the impending arrival of IMPERA the band’s fifth full length studio album out March 11 via Loma Vista Recordings.

IMPERA is heralded by today’s release of its first official single, the sublime and haunting “Call Me Little Sunshine,” available now across digital platforms—and as a phantasmagoric visual interpretation lensed by iconic director Matt Mahurin and starring Ruby Modine. The album will also feature “Hunter’s Moon,” Ghost’s fourth consecutive Active Rock #1 radio single, as heard over the end credits of the horror smash Halloween Kills—and manifesting physically in the form of a 7” vinyl single release this Friday, January 21.

IMPERA finds Ghost transported literally hundreds of years forward from the 14th century Europe Black Plague era of its previous album, 2018’s Best Rock Album GRAMMY nominee Prequelle. The result is the most ambitious and lyrically incisive entry in the Ghost canon: Over the course of IMPERA’s 12-song cycle, empires rise and fall, would-be messiahs ply their hype (financial and spiritual alike), prophecies are foretold as the skies fill with celestial bodies divine and man-made… All in all, the most current and topical Ghost subject matter to date is set against a hypnotic and darkly colorful melodic backdrop making IMPERA a listen like no other — yet unmistakably, quintessentially Ghost.

Produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace, IMPERA consists of the following 12 songs:

Imperium
Kaisarion
Spillways
Call Me Little Sunshine
Hunter’s Moon
Watcher In The Sky
Dominion
Twenties
Darkness At The Heart Of My Love
Grift Wood
Bite Of Passage
Respite On The Spital Fields

Ghost will kick off a co-headlining 26-date U.S. arena tour with Volbeat on January 25th, with support from Los Angeles’ Twin Temple. Tickets for all dates on the Live Nation produced tour are on sale now, with tickets and band-specific VIP packages available at ghost-official.com and volbeat.dk.

Ghost’s fourth consecutive #1 at Active Rock Radio “Hunter’s Moon” recently moved Guitar World to note that “juxtaposition between subject matter and composition is something that the Swedish rock outfit have always nailed, and they do it to superior effect on this new single.” The track’s origins and its appearance in the box office phenomenon Halloween Kills can be traced back to the band’s 2018 headlining show at the Forum in Los Angeles. Ryan Turek, Vice President of Feature Film Development at  Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, Insidious, The Purge, Us, Whiplash) attended the sold-out show, striking up an instant rapport with Ghost’s Tobias Forge — one that ultimately led to a visit with co-writer / director David Gordon Green on the North Carolina set of Halloween Kills. Three years nearly to the day after that first fateful exchange, “Hunter’s Moon” would be released on DSPs, would play as the Halloween Kills end credits rolled, and will be released January 21, 2022 as a collectible 7-inch single by Loma Vista Recordings (featuring the exclusive B-side “Halloween Kills (Main Title),” performed, produced and engineered by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies).

Volbeat’s newest album, Servant of the Mind, which Revolver calls “excellent… the darkest and heaviest Volbeat offering yet,” was released on December 3rd via Republic Records. For Servant of the Mind, the band, which consists of Michael Poulsen (guitars/vocals), Jon Larsen (drums), Rob Caggiano (guitars) and Kaspar Boye Larsen (bass) took their signature heavy metal, psychobilly and punk ‘n’ roll sound up a notch while showcasing Poulsen’s keen ability for songwriting and storytelling. “Rarely has such a successful band sounded so ravenous,” says Kerrang! Magazine of the album. Upon release the album hit the top of many international sales charts, reaching #1 in Germany, Denmark, and Austria, #2 in Switzerland, #4 in Finland, #5 in the Netherlands, #6 in Sweden and was number one and number two respectively on the Billboard Current Hard Rock Music Albums chart and Current Rock Albums chart. The new album, which features the number one Billboard Modern Rock singles “Shotgun Blues” and “Wait A Minute My Girl,” is now available in standard CD, deluxe 2LP vinyl (in various limited-edition variants, full info below) and a deluxe digital edition here. Volbeat’s Michael Poulsen recently sat Consequence of Sound’s Kyle Merideth to discuss Servant of the Mind, contributing to The Metallica Blacklist, and their upcoming tour with Ghost. About Ghost:

GRAMMY Award winning Swedish Rock band Ghost have elevated themselves to one of the most esteemed and celebrated rock bands in the world today. Four consecutive #1 Active Rock radio singles, debuting at #1 (Rock) + #3 (Top 200) on the Billboard album charts, accumulating well over a Billion streams, headlining arena tours (including sold out shows at The Forum in Los Angeles + Barclays Center in New York), opening stadium shows for Metallica, and gracing magazine covers and television screens the world over are just part of their story. The band’s passionate fan base and critical praise also stems from their ability to constantly be pushing their creative boundaries. Their most recent album, 2018’s Prequelle, is loosely based on The Black Plague of 14th century Europe, a metaphor that sadly became a premonition that applies to the societal ills of our times.  Though the band’s music at times has dark lyrical content, it never loses its infectious melodic edge. Ghost’s massively received recent single, the Active Rock #1 charting “Hunter’s Moon,” as heard over the end credits of the #1 horror smash Halloween Kills, combined with this upcoming nationwide arena tour are sure indicators that 2022 will be Ghost’s biggest year yet!

About Volbeat:

Since forming in 2001, Volbeat has gone from the clubs of Copenhagen to headlining stages around the world, including the famed Telia Parken stadium in Denmark (becoming the only domestic artist to ever sell out the venue with over 48,250 people in attendance). Over the course of seven record-breaking albums the band has picked up number one songs (including ten #1s on the US Mainstream Rock chart and counting, the most of any band based outside of North America), multi-platinum certifications, awards, a GRAMMY nomination and accolades all over the planet. Their latest album, Servant of the Mind, was released on December 3rd and has spawned the hit singles “Wait A Minute My Girl” and “Shotgun Blues.”

About The Metallica Blacklist:

Much more than a mere tribute album, The Metallica Blacklist celebrates the enduring influence of the musical milestone that is Metallica (a.k.a. “The Black Album”) with one of the most ambitious projects ever conceived: An unprecedented 50+ artists spanning an unbelievably vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, each contributing a unique interpretation of their favorite Black Album cut. The Metallica Blacklist offers up new dimensions of the record whose gravitational pull first drew the mainstream to Metallica—and provides new insights into the universal and timeless appeal that kept it there: the boundary-smashing influence these 12 songs have had on fans and musicians of all stripes. The Metallica Blacklist’s 53 tracks find singer songwriters, country artists, electronic and hip hop artists sharing their love of these songs alongside punk rockers, indie darlings, icons of rock, metal, world music and many, many more… and for 50+ good causes: Profits will be divided evenly between charities of the artist’s choice and Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation. The Metallica Blacklist is available everywhere now.

SPIRITUALIZED: NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO ‘CRAZY’ OUT NOW

SPIRITUALIZED

“CRAZY”

SECOND SINGLE FROM EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL

OUT FEBRUARY 25th ON FAT POSSUM

A record of cosmic proportions”– PITCHFORK

With their new LP Everything Was Beautiful due out February 25th via Fat Possum, and having previously shared album opener ‘Always Together With You’, today Spiritualized share a video for new single Crazy, a sweet country-soul lament which features backing vocals from Nikki Lane. The stunning video, directed by J Spaceman and partly inspired by Andy Warhol’s Kiss, can be viewed HERE.

While some people imploded in the lockdowns and isolation of the epidemic, others were thriving. “I felt like I’d been in training for this my whole life” says J Spaceman. He was referring to his fondness for isolation and when you reframe loneliness as “beautiful solitude” then it isn’t so bad. He would walk through an empty “Roman London” where “even the sirens had stopped singing” and where the world was “full of birdsong and strangeness and no contrails.” He used the birdsong walks to listen and try and make sense of all the music playing in his head. The mixes of his new record, a ninth studio album, weren’t working out yet.

Spaceman plays 16 different instruments on Everything Was Beautiful which was put down at 11 different studios, as well as at his home. He also employed more than 30 musicians and singers including his daughter Poppy, long-time collaborator and friend John Coxon, string and brass sections, choirs and finger bells and chimes from the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. So there’s a lot going on.

“There was so much information on it that the slightest move would unbalance it, but going around in circles is important to me. Not like you’re spiraling out of control but you’re going around and around and on each revolution you hold onto the good each time. Sure, you get mistakes as well, but you hold on to some of those too and that’s how you kind of… achieve. Well, you get there.”

Eventually the mixes got there and Everything Was Beautiful was achieved. The result is some of the most “live” sounding recordings that Spiritualized have released since the LiveAtTheAlbert Hall record of 1998, around the time of Ladies & Gentlemen, We Are FloatingInSpace.

The opening track “Always Together With You” is a reworking / supercharging of a track originally released in demo quality in 2014. This new version is a perfect Spiritualized song; a breathtaking, hard-edged, psychedelic pop tune where themes of high romance and space travel collide.

The artwork is designed once again with Mark Farrow. If you buy the vinyl you can pop a pill box out of the sleeve, revealing gold foil underneath, and assemble the Braille-embossed little thing and put it somewhere in the house. The box set has 8 of them. Literally a boxset. It looks more beautiful in the flesh. “Farrow and I were talking about what we should do and we just said, ‘It’s called Everything Is Beautiful, how could you not have a pill?’”

All these layers, all these details, the year-long mixes, the making sense of it all and the lives lived within these lyrics; for somebody so famously unconfident of his own abilities, isn’t this a punishing thing to keep doing? “Yeah, but I like what I do. There’s a line from Jonathan Meades that’s about having all the attributes to being an artist. ‘Paranoia, vanity, selfishness, egotism, sycophancy, resentment, moral nullity and more idiot than idiot savant.’ “And that’s what it feels like, this kind of thing. You’re your own worst enemy and biggest supporter. “There’s a ‘Of course this is worth it. It’s me’ and then this kind of deep doubt of ‘What the fuck is this all about?’ “And then ‘Why is it important?’ and then knowing there’s no easy answer. But it’s there. I know it’s there.”

Damon Albarn: January 24 at Walt Disney Concert Hall

Damon Albarn

Only U.S. Concert in Support of The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows
January 24, 2022, at 8PM, at Walt Disney Concert Hall

Tickets on sale Wednesday, December 15, at 10AM PDT

The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced today that Damon Albarn will play a rare, one off U.S. concert in support of his recently released second solo album The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows on January 24, 2022, at 8PM, at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows evolved during lockdown into 11 new tracks included on the album, having been originally conceived as an orchestral piece inspired by the landscape of Iceland, In a career of perpetual musical shifts and exploration, the record uncovers fresh ground, finding expansive orchestral arrangements nestling around intimate melodies, discordance brushing up against infectious majesty, all set to some of Albarn’s most arresting vocal performances to date. Much like the beauty and chaos of the natural world it soundtracks, The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows vividly documents the emotional ebb and flow of the human condition, in all its extremes, serving as a soul enriching document for our times.

For his performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Albarn will perform on piano, accompanied by strings, playing songs from The Nearer the Fountain… alongside selections from his vast songbook of Blur, Gorillaz, The Good, The Bad & The Queen and various solo and collaborative works.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 10AM PDT and can be purchased at LAPhil.com.

Today, Amazon Music announced The LCD Soundsystem Holiday Special, an innovative virtual event streaming December 22, featuring the band on the heels of their sold-out 20-show residency in Brooklyn. Comedian, actor, and writer Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric) will direct and star in the special, which also features a star-studded cast including Macaulay Culkin, Christine Ko, and Aparna Nancherla portraying the band in a ‘90s-inspired sitcom titled All My Friends. Amazon Music invites fans around the world to watch on the Amazon Music channel on Twitch and Prime Video beginning at 6 p.m. PST/9 p.m. EST on December 22.

Named for the 2007 LCD anthem, the All My Friends sitcom is set inside a fictional home shared by all of the members of LCD Soundsystem, with Eric Wareheim playing the band’s fearless leader, James Murphy. The cast also includes actors Christine Ko as Nancy Whang (vocals and keyboards), Macaulay Culkin as Pat Mahoney (drums), Tony Cavalero as Nick Millhiser (synth), Cory Loykasek as Al Doyle (guitar and synth), Aparna Nancherla as Abby Echiverri (synth), Jon Daly as Tyler Pope (bass), Rex Lee as Brian Graf (LCD Soundsystem’s manager), Luenell as the band’s tour manager, and Eric’s puppet as Korey Richey (synth). After the sitcom opens the show, the real LCD Soundsystem will take the stage to perform a career-spanning set-capped off with a special rendition of the band’s 2015 single, “Christmas Will Break Your Heart,” performed live for the first time ever.

“I’ve already conquered film, James has conquered music, but we have yet to conquer the sitcom—the HIGHEST form of art,” said Eric Wareheim. “We’ve been working on this project for 15 years, and for this show we’re unveiling a uniquely emotional perspective of the sitcom universe for the holidays—provided by one of the greatest bands of all time and my dear friends, LCD Soundsystem. I can’t believe Amazon Music is letting us do this.”

“I am similarly stunned that someone let us do this,” said James Murphy. “At least we finally get to use our Korey puppet.”

Emerging from New York in the early ‘00s, LCD Soundsystem released the acclaimed albums LCD SoundsystemSound of Silver, and This Is Happening, before playing a 2011 farewell concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden immortalized as the recently reissued The Long Goodbye. The band reunited five years later, and in 2017 released their #1-charting fourth album, American Dream, which featured the Best Dance Recording GRAMMY-winning “Tonite.” American Dream is available to stream hereThe LCD Soundsystem Holiday Special airs on the Amazon Music channel on Twitch and on Prime Video for all Amazon customers globally on December 22 at 6 p.m. PST/9 p.m. EST.
