PAUL McCARTNEY TO GET BACK “OUT THERE” IN OCTOBER

October 17 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto

Fresh off an undeniably historic headline performance at this year’s Lollapalooza hailed without exception as the biggest and best in the festival’s 25 year history, Paul McCartney has confirmed the first new North American arena date on the universally acclaimed Out There tour.

On October 17, Paul will return to Toronto’s Air Canada Centre for the first time since 2010 on the Up And Coming Tour.

Having already torn through 22 shows this year covering Japan, South Korea, Europe, the UK and the US, the Out There tour, as always, features music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, spanning Paul’s entire career – as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle. The set list also includes material from Paul’s most recent studio album NEW, a global hit upon its release in 2013.

The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity: in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived, music which for many has shaped the very soundtrack of their lives. Paul and his band have performed in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, Buckingham Palace, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people, played the last ever show at  San Francisco’s Candlestick Park where The Beatles played their final concert, and even broadcast live into Space! Featuring Paul’s band of the last 10+ years – Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums) – the show never disappoints.

The tour also uses state of the art technology and production to ensure the entire audience has the best possible experience. With massive screens, lasers, fireworks, unique video content and, of course, the best songs in the world, a Paul McCartney show is so much more than just an ordinary concert. Paul’s shows attract a multi generational audience from different backgrounds all brought together by his music.

2015 has been yet another incredible year for Paul. He kicked things off on the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards with Rihanna and Kanye West, performing their smash hit collaboration “FourFiveSeconds,” treated New York City to an intimate Valentines Day concert the night before appearing on the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary special, and inducted Ringo Starr into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame all before the year’s halfway mark. Having played another slew of sold out dates including his debut appearance in South Korea at the Seoul Olympic Stadium, the massive Stade de France in Paris, and triumphant headline sets at the Firefly, Roskilde and Lollapalooza festivals, Out There 2015 is already proving to be another amazing chapter for a living legend who continues to make history with his every move.

Tickets will be on sale Friday, August 28 at 11AM EST.

American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Tuesday August 25 at 10AM EST  through Thursday August 27 at 10PM EST

BOOTS TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM AQUΛRIA ON NOVEMBER 13th, 2015 VIA COLUMBIA RECORDS

EXCLUSIVE NPR ‘ALL SONGS CONSIDERED’ EXTENDED INTERVIEW WITH BOB BOILEN COMING SOON

© Eliot Lee Hazel

On the heels of last week’s surprise release of FKA twigs’ M3LL15X EP, BOOTS – the sole producer behind four of the EP’s five tracks – is now announcing the release of his debut album, AQUΛRIA, due out Friday, November 13th on Columbia Records. Featuring co-production from El-P (Run The Jewels) and Carla Azar (Autolux), AQUΛRIA is set somewhere in a twilight realm of the Information Era as BOOTS blends masterful musical styles and gritty vocals with a futuristic approach at creating a boundary-crushing defiance to the established musical hivemind.

As a first offering, BOOTS gives us the title track to AQUΛRIA which features Angel Deradoorian (The Dirty Projectors) on vocals and is available to listen to here.

Coming soon, be sure to tune in to a very special episode NPR’s ALL SONGS CONSIDERED as Bob Boilen – an early BOOTS fan – sits down with him to dissect the album and give listeners a taste of the new music. Delving deep, the two discuss pivotal moments in BOOTS life and career, unveiling a side of BOOTS few have ever known.

In February of 2015, esteemed New York Times music critic Jon Pareles traveled to the Mojave Desert to meet with Jordy Asher aka BOOTS. Asher was in the process of making his short film Motorcycle Jesus, the companion to a soundtrack of five songs which had piqued Pareles’ interest. Over a few days in the desert, he and BOOTS discussed his unlikely origin story: from sleeping on floors to becoming the secret weapon powering critical and commercial smashes for the likes of Beyonce, FKA twigs, and others — all the while crafting his own material for his WinterSpringSummerFall mixtape and Motorcycle Jesus. Pareles drew out of him the genesis of his ambition:

The dogged survival instinct of his character in Motorcycle Jesus, he said, reflects “people, like myself, who just have to keep moving forward and working, to keep my head and do what my gut tells me. Because I don’t know what happens if I stop working, or if I stop moving, or if I stop going perpetually forward. And I’m afraid to find out.”

That profile, the multimedia release of Motorcycle Jesus and a blazing TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon would conspire to introduce BOOTS to the world as a creative force to be reckoned with in his own right.

BOOTS will be on tour this fall supporting Run The Jewels. Full list of tour dates are below.

DANGER MOUSE LAUNCHES 30TH CENTURY RECORDS

© James Minchin

Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, is excited to announce 30th Century Records, his imprint in collaboration with Columbia Records. Beginning this fall, the world-renowned artist, songwriter and producer will oversee a label comprised of artists he is personally signing. 30th Century Records will debut with his first signing, Autolux, who are currently at work on the full-length follow-up to 2010’s critically-celebrated Transit Transit.

Last year marked the 10th anniversary of Danger Mouse’s wildly innovative landmark release, The Grey Album, which dramatically altered the musical and technological topography of the entertainment industry. By fusing a cappella strains of Jay Z’s Black Album with the instrumentals from The Beatles’ White Album, Danger Mouse jettisoned music production into the 21st Century.

Since 2004 and The Grey Album, a bevy of modern day musical titans have sought out the Danger Mouse treatment. Burton’s songwriting and production work as Danger Mouse can be heard on such notable releases as Gorillaz’s Demon Days,  Beck’s Modern Guilt, Norah Jones’ …Little Broken Hearts, The Black Keys’ explosive single “Tighten Up” and their massive album El Camino. More recently, Burton’s talents and expertise can be heard on U2’s Songs of Innocence and A$AP Rocky’s AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP.

Aside from his work as a producer, Burton has established himself as an artist, composer and songwriter. In 2006, Burton teamed up with CeeLo Green to form Gnarls Barkley. This partnership gave birth to two full-length albums and of course the single “Crazy,” which Rolling Stone dubbed Song of the Decade. In 2010, Burton collaborated with Sparklehorse and David Lynch to create Dark Night of the Soul, a star-studded studio album featuring guests such as James Mercer, Black Francis, Wayne Coyne, Julian Casablancas, and Iggy Pop among a host of others. The album’s release was accompanied by a photo book consisting of photos taken by Lynch which provided a visual narrative for the music. Burton would eventually go on to showcase his talents as a composer in 2011 when he joined Daniele Luppi to craft the epic Rome which featured Jack White, Norah Jones and the original musicians who performed composer Ennio Morricone’s Italian film scores, which were key inspirations for the project’s conception.

Burton has devoted much of his time during the last seven years to his band Broken Bells which he formed with James Mercer of The Shins in 2008. This partnership resulted in two full length, Columbia-released albums: their 2010 self-titled debut and 2014’s After the Disco.

Through the years, Burton’s work has been heavily praised and recognized by the music world’s governing bodies. Among his 21 GRAMMY nominations that span nine years, Burton has won five awards including Producer of the Year in 2011. In 2014, Burton won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for his writing and production work with U2 on their song “Ordinary Love”.

Arcade Fire said of the film: “There were parts of the Reflektor tour where I think we, Arcade Fire, came the closest in our careers to putting on stage what we imagined in our heads. We were insanely lucky to have Kahlil Joseph documenting from the very beginning.”

In addition to showcasing music from Reflektor and other albums in Arcade Fire’s storied back catalogue, The Reflektor Tapes will also give viewers a chance to hear a brand new, unreleased track for the first time and features an exclusive 15 minutes of unseen footage, filmed with the band only for cinema audiences.

MPL and the Concord Music Group are proud to announce two more landmark installments in the multiple GRAMMY-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection. On October 2, 2015, Paul’s early ‘80s back-to-back classics Tug of War and Pipes of Peace will receive lavish multiple configuration reissue treatment including exclusive 2015 remixes of both the entire Tug of War album and the Pipes of Peace classic collaboration with Michael Jackson “Say Say Say,” a treasure trove of previously unreleased tracks and never before seen video, and much more.

Released in 1982, Tug of War was Paul’s first album following the break-up of Wings and his third solo LP overall. Hailed upon its release as “exquisitely crafted” by The New York Times and a “masterpiece” byRolling StoneTug of War went to #1 in no less than nine countries. Tug of War yielded such classic tracks as Paul’s #1 duet with Stevie Wonder “Ebony and Ivory,” the top 10 single “Take It Away,” and of course “Here Today,” the conversation Paul never had with the late John Lennon that remains a staple of Paul’s live set to this day. Pipes of Peace, Paul’s fourth solo album, followed in 1983 and continued Paul’s early ’80s run of platinum records. Singles from Pipes of Peace included the title track and of course Paul and Michael Jackson’s timeless “Say Say Say,” a multi-format global chart-topping smash continually cited as a landmark of that or any year–as recently as 2007, Vibemagazine rated “Say Say Say” as one of the greatest duets of all time.

As with the GRAMMY-winning Band On The Run and Wings Over America Archive editions, Paul personally supervised all aspects of these releases and their various formats, which include:

Tug of War will be issued as a 2-CD Special Edition comprised of the 2015 remix of the entire album, plus a second disc of bonus audio featuring eight previously unreleased demos of both album tracks and outtakes “Stop, You Don’t Know Where She Came From” and “Something That Didn’t Happen,” as well as demo and solo versions of “Ebony and Ivory” and more. The Tug Of War 3-CD/1-DVD Deluxe Edition adds the original 1982 album mix and a DVD featuring original music videos for the album’s singles and the brand new 18-minute documentary “Fly TIA—Behind The Scenes on Take It Away” featuring previously unseen archival footage. The Pipes of Peace 2-CD Special Edition is made up of the original album plus a 9-track bonus disc with such exclusive gems as a 2015 remix of “Say Say Say” by Spike Stent, unearthed demos of three album tracks and outtakes “It’s Not On” and “Simple As That,” the previously unreleased “Christian Bop” and more. The 2-CD/1-DVD Pipes of Peace Deluxe Edition features a bonus video disc comprised of the original promo clips for all three of the album’s singles, plus previously unreleased clips from Paul’s film archives. The Deluxe configuration will also include a 112-page essay book and 64-page book that takes the reader behind the scenes on the “Pipes of Peace” title track video shoot.

Both albums and their companion bonus audio discs will also be released as 2-LP 180-gram audiophile vinyl editions complete with gatefold sleeves and download cards. The newly remixed and mastered Tug of War and remastered Pipes of Peace will also receive standard and Hi Res digital releases, as well deluxe digital and Hi Res releases featuring all bonus audio.

U2 BRINGS ITS REINVENTION OF THE ROCK & ROLL ARENA SHOW TO HBO IN TWO WORLD PREMIERES:

BEHIND THE SCENES DOCUMENTARY ON THE iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE TOUR

iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE LIVE IN PARIS CONCERT SPECIAL

U2 © Sam Jones
U2 © Sam Jones

U2 and HBO will be debuting a unique combination of two exclusive world premiere specials this fall, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, President, HBO Programming. First, to debut on Nov. 7, a behind-the-scenes documentary that offers unprecedented access to the band and the team that worked with them to conceptualize and create its current iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE world tour. The following week, the network will present the tour’s Nov. 14 performance filmed at the newly renovated Bercy Arena in Paris and aired exclusively on HBO that same day. Both the documentary and the concert will be available on HBO GO and HBO NOW simultaneous to the programs’ HBO world premieres.

“U2 continues to take risks, which has made them one of the most consistently exciting forces in rock’n’roll,” said Lombardo. “The one-two combination of this documentary special, followed by the concert, will provide viewers with the ultimate look at this remarkable band behind the scenes and on the stage.”

The documentary takes a look into the creation of U2’s wildly innovative and widely acclaimed iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE world tour, which began May 14 in Vancouver and currently runs through November. The special will detail how a show of this magnitude is conceived, revealing the blood, sweat and imagination that has gone into making iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE, the tour that would ultimately “reinvent the arena show,” according to Rolling Stone’s opening night review.

Interviews in the documentary include all four members of U2 – Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. – as well as the supporting cast of Willie Williams, who has created tour concepts for the band for more than 30 years, award-winning designer Es Devlin, newly signed on for this tour, production director Jake Berry, Audio Director Joe O’Herlihy, executive director Gavin Friday, set designer Ric Lipson, and others who bring iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE to life around U2’s music, night after night.

The special also explores the challenges and setbacks U2 faced in the months before tour rehearsals began in April, including Bono’s serious bicycle accident in New York last fall, and his — and the band’s — hard road getting back into “fighting shape” for their triumphant return with iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE. This exclusive documentary chronicles in detail how these same four friends, who started out as a humble punk band from the Northside of Dublin more than 30 years ago, continue to create magic nightly with the most grandiose, yet most intimate, arena tour ever staged.

On Nov. 14th, the audience will see for itself the results of all of that hard work when U2 plays the Bercy Arena in Paris on the iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE tour, showcasing the inventive set that allows U2 to explore the concepts of iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE via a performance that literally moves throughout the venue via multiple stages, a one-of-a-kind interactive floor-to-ceiling arena-length LED screen that has earned its reputation as the fifth member of U2 on this run, and a radical new approach to surround sound that ensures that everyone in the audience sees, feels and hears the show with maximum impact from every seat in the house.

And of course, there are the songs: The iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE setlists span the band’s entire career, from its 1980 debut album, Boy, to its most recent work, Songs of Innocence. The concepts of innocence and experience are explored in vivid musical and visual detail, progressing from songs inspired by the members of U2’s earliest influences and formative life experiences through decades worth of indelible anthems from the band that has won more Grammys than any other living rock band.

The documentary will be produced and directed by Davis Guggenheim (the Oscar®-winning An Inconvenient TruthWaiting For SupermanIt Might Get Loud featuring U2’s The Edge, and From The Sky Down–the 2011 documentary chronicling the recording and release of U2’s 1991 classic Achtung Baby) and produced by Shannon Dill with U2 manager Guy Oseary serving as Executive Producer.

The concert will be produced by Done And Dusted with Executive Producers Hamish Hamilton, Simon Pizey, Davis Guggenheim and Guy Oseary. It will be directed by Hamish Hamilton, who has worked with the band since 2001. Collaborations include Elevation 2001: Live from BostonU2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle, Ireland; the Beautiful Day Documentary; and Vertigo 2005: Live from Chicago. The youngest recipient of the BAFTA Special Award, Hamish has Directed and Executive Produced the London 2012 Olympic & ParaOlympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Directed the last six Super Bowl Half-Time shows, multiple Academy Awards ceremonies, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for over a decade, President Obama’s Inaugural Ball, MTV’s VMA’s, and many more.

THIRD MAN BOOKS PRESENTS

HIDDEN WATER: FROM THE FRANK STANFORD ARCHIVES

TMR003-FrankStanford-HiddenWaters-Cover-550

Third Man Books is very proud to announce pre-sales for their third title, Hidden Water: From the Frank Stanford Archives. Stanford is a personal favorite of many at Third Man Books, and this title has been an endeavor taken on with a special touch. The book features unpublished poems, drafts, letters, and the first publicly heard AUDIO RECORDING of Stanford reciting. The recording will be made available on the book’s street date of July 21.

“The big event in poetry for 2015 will likely be the long-awaited resurrection of Frank Stanford, a legendary badass from Arkansas, much of whose poetry has been unavailable since his suicide at the age of 29 in 1978… Stanford was a hell of a metaphor-maker and simile-slinger, and could cast a spell of extreme intensity with a flick of his wrist.”—NPR.org

“His love poems can sound like the cry of an angel falling backward through an open window, to borrow Dwight Yoakam’s line about Roy Orbison’s voice… Mr. Stanford could lose his heart without blowing his cool.”—New York Times, 2015

“…It is astounding to me that I was not even aware of this accomplished and moving poet. There is a great deal of pain on the poems, but it is a pain that makes sense, a tragic pain whose meaning rises from the way the poems are so firmly molded and formed from within.”—James Wright.

Edited by Michael Wiegers and Chet Weise, Hidden Water: From the Frank Stanford Archives is a collection of unpublished poems, drafts, never before seen photos, and correspondences between Stanford, Allen Ginsberg, Pulitzer Prize winning poet Alan Dugan, and more. Copper Canyon Press and Third Man Books have collaborated to make Hidden Water not only a must have book on its own, but a must have complement to Copper Canyon’s definitive Stanford collection What About This.

In addition to Hidden Water being made available as a stand alone title, we are offering a Hidden Water Special Edition featuring two books of Frank Stanford’s work: Third Man Books own Hidden Water is bundled in a custom slipcase with the 764 page hardcover title What About This published by Copper Canyon Press. Also included are two framable broadsides featuring poems and artwork by Stanford, and, to top it off, a reproduction of Stanford’s own notepad. Pre-order the Special Edition HERE.

Born in 1948, Frank Stanford was a prolific poet known for his originality and ingenuity. He has been dubbed “a swamprat Rimbaud” by Lorenzo Thomas and “one of the great voices of death” by Franz Wright. He grew up in Mississippi, Tennessee, and then Arkansas, where he lived for most of his life and wrote many of his most powerful poems. Stanford died in 1978. He authored over ten books of poetry, including eight volumes in the last seven years of his life.

This autumn, Grammy Award-winning band Arcade Fire will release their first feature film, The Reflektor Tapes, in theaters around the world from September 24th for a limited time only.

The Reflektor Tapes is directed by 2013 Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Short Films winner Kahlil Joseph, and produced by award-winning studio Pulse Films (20,000 Days on Earth, Shut Up And Play The Hits) and What Matters Most. It is a film quite unlike any other; an authentic cinematic experience, meeting at the crossroads of documentary, music, art and personal history. The release will be brought to screens by leading Event Cinema distributor Arts Alliance. Screening for a short time only, it bucks traditional film rollout convention, creating a unique cinema event to be shared by audiences around the world.

The Reflektor Tapes is a fascinating insight into the making of Arcade Fire’s critically acclaimed, international #1 album Reflektor. The film recontextualizes the album experience, transporting the viewer into a kaleidoscopic sonic and visual landscape. It charts the band’s creative journey as they lay foundations for the album in Jamaica, commence recording sessions in Montreal and play an impromptu gig at a Haitian hotel on the first night of Carnival, before bringing their breathtaking live show to packed arenas in Los Angeles and London.

Audiences will relive stunning concerts from the Reflektor tour, re-envisioned in true cinema high definition and surround sound. The film will also offer a rare opportunity for fans to delve beneath the surface and get closer to the band themselves. With Arcade Fire granting previously unprecedented access to Joseph, The Reflektor Tapes fluidly blends in never before seen personal footage, including interviews, documentation of the recording process and moments captured by the band themselves, to dazzling effect.

Arcade Fire said of the film: “There were parts of the Reflektor tour where I think we, Arcade Fire, came the closest in our careers to putting on stage what we imagined in our heads. We were insanely lucky to have Kahlil Joseph documenting from the very beginning.”

In addition to showcasing music from Reflektor and other albums in Arcade Fire’s storied back catalogue, The Reflektor Tapes will also give viewers a chance to hear a brand new, unreleased track for the first time and features an exclusive 20 minutes of unseen footage, filmed only for cinema audiences.

To accompany the film announcement, Arcade Fire have also released an exclusive new music video for the track “Porno”, created by Kahlil Joseph and featuring footage from The Reflektor Tapes.

“A sugary indie-pop stomper with a strutting hook and a ridiculously danceable chorus”—ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“A perfect summer song”—ESQUIRE

“Urgently contemporary and irresistibly vintage”—NPR

“We love sad-folkie Beck as much as anyone but dance-y Beck is even better. This funky little groove is giving us Midnite Vultures flashbacks in the best way possible”—ROLLING STONE

“An infectious blend of dance-punk with designs of invading your ears. There’s no question that this is a strong contender for song of the summer”—USA TODAY (Song of the Week)

“A booming bona fide hit”—VULTURE

How does one of the most innovative and acclaimed artists of the last two centuries follow up a first ever GRAMMY Album of the Year victory for his “instant folk-rock classic” Morning Phase?

If one is Beck, it’s with the 180-degree turn “Dreams,” a 5-minute psych-pop dance party tour de force that has just broken the five million stream mark, averaging 1.5 million streams weekly since its June 15 release—a number that has increased with each week. Beck’s second #1 single at AAA radio (the first being Morning Phase’s “Blue Moon”), “Dreams” is Beck’s first new music since Morning Phase’s GRAMMY hat trick earlier this year.

In other news, Beck will headline the Tuesday, August 4 day of Nile Rodgers’ FOLD! festival in Riverhead, NY. Tickets for that date, Beck’s only scheduled U.S. appearance at press time, are available at: https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/881069
