Beck unveils the new single “Dreams,” his first release since Morning Phase took Album of The Year honors at this year’s GRAMMY Awards. A 180-degree turn from that multiple-GRAMMY-winning “instant folk-rock classic” (Rolling Stone), the instantly and irresistibly infectious “Dreams” is a 5-minute dance party tour de force sure to delight summer jam connoisseurs of all stripes.

“Dreams” is classic Beck—unlike anything he’s done before yet clearly the work of the uncategorizable creative force that has brought us the likes of OdelayMidnite VulturesGuero and so much more. Vocals and instrumentation are provided entirely by Beck and Greg Kurstin—a veteran of Beck’s touring band circa Sea Change—and the track was written by Beck, Kurstin and Andrew Wyatt, produced by Beck and Kurstin, and mixed by Serban Ghenea.

DAVE GROHL’S BIG BREAK

June 14 Pinkpop Festival & June 16 St. Gallen, Switzerland Shows Canceled

As witnessed by tens of thousands in attendance at Foo Fighters’ June 12 show at Ullevi Stadium, Dave Grohl took a nasty spill during the second song of the set. With the help of on-site medical staff who patched him up temporarily, Dave was able to rejoin the band to complete that performance.

While the full extent of Dave’s injuries are still being determined, it was confirmed at a post-show hospital visit that he sustained at least one fracture.

As a result Foo Fighters have been forced to cancel their June 14 appearance at the Pinkpop Festival as well as their June 16 show at the AFG Arena in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Following the release of “Barrio,” Teenage Time Killers have proudly teamed up with Noisey to unleash “Ode To Sean Hannity”—a fierce burst of punk rock fury featuring Jello Biafra on vocals—now live at http://noisey.vice.com/blog/teenage-time-killers.

TTK’s own Reed Mullin explains the fortuitous inspiration behind the track:

“I saw John Cleese from Monty Python on an episode of Keith Olbermann’s old MSNBC show a couple years back, where he happened read his poem ‘Ode to Sean Hannity’ aloud. It was fucking hilarious—the rhythm, or cadence rather, and biting political comedy sounded just like a song Jello & the Dead Kennedys would have written back in the old days.

So, when we were getting our original 5 songs together for what later turned into Teenage Time Killers, I put Cleese’s poem to music, asked Jello to sing it, he said ‘yes’ and the rest is history.”

Teenage Time Killers’ debut album Greatest Hits Vol. 1 is out July 31st, but grab your pre-order now at http://ttk.merchnow.com or through iTunes at http://smarturl.it/ttk-greatest-hits.

THIRD MAN RECORDS & SHINOLA PARTNER TO PURCHASE BUILDING IN DETROIT’S CASS CORRIDOR

THIRD MAN RECORDS TO OPEN NEW DETROIT BRANCH

SHINOLA TO EXPAND MANUFACTURING OPERATION

unnamed (2)

On June 1st, Shinola founder Tom Kartsotis partnered with Detroit-native Jack White to purchase the building that currently houses the Shinola Flagship store at 441 W. Canfield in Detroit’s Cass Corridor. The deal marks new expansion for both Shinola as well as Jack White’s record label Third Man Records. For Third Man, this is a homecoming of sorts, since the label was originally founded in Detroit in 2001. This expansion signals the opening of their first retail store and offices outside of Nashville, TN. The new retail space is set to be in operation by Black Friday (November 27th, 2015), with many special surprises in store.

For Shinola, the deal comes on the heels of the brand’s investment into yet another category, rapidly honing in on the ability to manufacture speakers, turntables and headphones of audiophile quality, while creating more manufacturing jobs in the US — a top priority for the innovative and quality-focused company.

Third Man Records has long aspired to have a presence in Detroit and the constantly evolving Cass Corridor in particular, given White’s history in the neighborhood. It is the location of the first-ever White Stripes show, the home of White’s high school, and an area of the city that White says, “has always been the most inspiring area of Detroit for me as an artist and as a Detroiter. From the great visual artists like Gordon Newton to the music of the Gories, and the birth of the Detroit garage rock scene, the Corridor has nurtured Detroit’s soul and inventiveness for decades. That spirit pushes forward with Shinola’s passion and will come full circle for the artists of the Corridor that work with Third Man Records to plant a new foundation there to help keep that creative spirit alive for decades to come.”

The expansion for Third Man Records is both a return-to-its-roots as well as a reach forward into the future, and the possibilities with the additional space and the Shinola partnership are endless and exciting.

About the plans, Tom Kartsotis said, “Everyone at Shinola is so excited about Third Man Records moving into the Cass Corridor.  Unbelievable… There goes the neighborhood!”

This development means a move for current retail tenant Willy’s Detroit, a sister store to Shinola, but current plans are for the storefront to remain within the building.

ABOUT SHINOLA:
In 2011, Shinola, a Bedrock Manufacturing Company, LLC brand was conceived with the belief that products should be built to last, and they should be built in America. As makers of modern, handcrafted watches, bicycles, leather goods, journals, and pet accessories, we are proud to be based in Detroit, a community-minded city with a strong manufacturing legacy. We built our watch and leather factories within the College for Creative Studies in the former Argonaut building. As a new company with a storied name, we stand for skill at scale, the preservation of craft, the beauty of industry. We are constantly working to, wherever possible, source as many domestically made components for our products. We are an American company doing everything we can to bring jobs and manufacturing back to America.

ABOUT THIRD MAN RECORDS:
Third Man Records was launched by Jack White in Detroit, MI in 2001, and in 2009 opened its current Nashville, TN location which houses a record store, novelties lounge (featuring the Third Man Record Booth), label offices and distribution center, photo studio, and the world’s only live venue with direct-to-acetate recording capabilities. Third Man is an innovator in the world of vinyl records and a boundary pusher in the world of recorded music, aiming to bring tangibility and spontaneity back into the record business and issue releases that leave no doubt in the minds of listeners that music is indeed sacred.

THIRD MAN RECORDS ANNOUNCES THE BLUE ROOM SPOTLIGHT SERIES

NEW VIDEO SERIES USING RED CAMERAS

RELEASES FIRST VIDEO FEATURING THE GORIES’ DANNY KROHA

Kroha_Spotlight

We’re very excited to announce a new addition to the Third Man lexicon… A very cool collaboration with Red Digital Cinema Camera Company that we are calling The Blue Room Spotlight SeriesThe Spotlight Series features visually arresting, intimate performances in our Blue Room venue, shot by in-house film and video guru Brad Holland on RED cameras, and posted in 4K resolution. The Blue Room Spotlight Series will feature a variety of artists either local to Nashville or passing through town… They could be TMR recording stars or just artists we admire and respect. All genres of the musical spectrum will be represented, and artists are encouraged to re-interpret their material in ways that fans previously haven’t heard. Anything goes, and we’ll be there to capture it.

Since tomorrow is our Detroit Rock ‘n’ Roll hero Danny Kroha’s 50th birthday, we’re going to go ahead and launch this baby with his incredible version of Clarence Ashley’s Walking Boss on a baritone dulcimer that Danny tells us previously adorned a friends home as a purely ornamental display. A recorded version of Walking Boss is featured on Danny’s Third Man release Angels Watching Over Me. Danny, of course, is also one of the main wo/men in The Gories who are currently on tour in Europe, go and check them out if you can, and don’t forget we’ve just released a new single by the band which you can pick up right now, right here.

THIRD MAN RECORDS PRESENTS NEWEST LIVE AT THIRD MAN RECORDS RELEASES

GUITAR VIRTUOSO PETER WALKER

SEATTLE’S THE DUTCHESS AND THE DUKE

BOTH ALBUMS OUT JUNE 9th; PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE HERE & HERE

Live records. We love them. Why? Maybe it’s because our Blue Room is the most magical place we’ve ever seen a show. Maybe it’s because performers come alive and pull out all the stops and feel NERVOUS for the first time since they began touring when they know we’re putting it down on tape or acetate. Maybe it’s because our engineers capture every click, pop, cheer, idiosyncrasy, and yes, maybe even a mistake or two, and lock it into history — a moment impervious to time, a medium impervious to correction. Maybe it’s because we were there, and we cherish every moment we get to spend in the presence of greatness, at the place we call home, doing what we love.

We’ve got two such live records coming at you fast and hard from last July and October, respectively. The first is from God of the Guitar Peter Walker. He is the last living psychedelic guitar maestro in a long line of greats like John Fahey, Robbie Basho and Sandy Bull. His performance was nothing short of a master class for anyone who’s ever picked up a guitar. For the occasion Walker performed a handful of songs on piano, something he’s never done before or since, ending with an absolutely haunting and unreal version of “Chandranandan.” Peter Walker left doubt in no one’s mind that he is one of the most important guitar players ever. A transcendent evening.

The second is from our dear friends The Dutchess and the Duke, whose self-described “campfire punk” is equal parts beautiful boy/girl harmonies, subdued finger-picked acoustic guitar pairings, and minimal percussive accoutrements. In short, it’s sublimely compelling. After a hiatus of a few years, they’re slowly creeping back into live performances and Third Man was thrilled to host one of the first, recording the set direct-to-acetate in the relaxed, intimate setting of the Blue Room.

Third Man Records is proud to announce the forthcoming releases of jazz and roots legend Leon Redbone’s debut album On the Track and Long Way From Home, the never-before-released earliest known recordings of the mysterious performer. The news of the Third Man releases follows the recent announcement of Leon Redbone’s retirement from both public appearances and recording.

Specific release dates for the two offerings are forthcoming, but in the meantime, peruse the track listings below.
ABOUT LEON REDBONE

Redbone’s career has spanned over four decades and began with his earliest performances on the folk festival and club circuit. His numerous appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson andSaturday Night Live and other outlets catalyzed his rise to international recognition. Over the ensuing years he has appeared throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Japan and released thirteen albums of his unique music, a panoply of early music styles that he delivered with his singular laconic idiosyncratic style.

A true champion of early American ragtime, blues and jazz, Leon Redbone has spent a lifetime preserving that musical tradition while exposing successive generations to a rich musical heritage of which they might not otherwise have become aware.

NICK CAVE AND WARREN ELLIS

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Far From Men – Out Now

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis Far From Men

“Very often a tension can happen between music and picture that is about chance and a kind of unknowingness that can be really amazing. Just by putting together two things that were created in isolation, music and film, suddenly something quite magical can happen.” – Nick Cave

The latest ravishing score by Cave and Ellis is for director David Olehoffen’s Far From Men and is out now on Bad Seed Ltd.

Far From Men was a triple prizewinner at the Venice film festival (2014) and stars Viggo Mortensen and Reda Kateb. Adapted from a short story by Albert Camus, it is a powerful tale of divided loyalties and colonialist violence during Algeria’s war of independence. With its mesmeric drones, pointillist piano jabs, weeping strings and nerve-jangling electronics, this is one of the duo’s most emotive and experimental soundtracks to date, sounding both achingly intimate and cosmically vast.

NASHVILLE MAYOR ANNOUNCES REOPENING OF WALK OF FAME PARK WITH INDUCTION OF LORETTA LYNN AND JACK WHITE

Ribbon-Cutting for Renovated Park and Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony Presented by Gibson Guitar on June 4

unnamed

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, joined by Metro Parks and the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp., today announced that GRAMMY-winning artists Loretta Lynn and Jack White will be inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame and join in the official ribbon-cutting of the newly-renovated Walk of Fame Park. The event will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 and is free and open to the public.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the reopening of Walk of Fame Park than with the induction of Loretta Lynn and Jack White – two very diverse artists,” Mayor Dean said. “They represent what is best about Nashville with music that spans multiple genres and generations. They are great ambassadors for the creative community in our city, and I congratulate them on this wonderful honor.”

Both the induction ceremony and ribbon-cutting celebration will take place at Walk of Fame Park on Demonbreun Street, between Third and Fourth Avenues. In addition to the inductions of Lynn and White, the new plaque design for all of the renovated stars will be unveiled.

“Individually, Loretta Lynn and Jack White have each made an enormous impact on Nashville’s music scene,” said Ken Levitan, NCVC Board Chair and President of Vector Management. “Collectively, the impact of their collaborations has been felt exponentially and worldwide. The Walk of Fame showcases our diverse history and illustrates to fans from all over the world why we are Music City.”

“The improvements at Walk of Fame Park will enable the city to take better advantage of one of the busiest event parks downtown,” said Tommy Lynch, director of Metro Parks and Recreation. “The park will feature more usable green space and better electrical and sound capabilities, and it continues to celebrate the Nashville Music Garden, which is home to nearly 300 roses, including some that are very rare.”

The Music City Walk of Fame was created in the fall of 2006 on Nashville’s Music Mile, a roughly one-mile stretch that connects downtown to Music Row.

The Walk of Fame is a landmark tribute to those from all genres of music who have made significant contributions to preserving the musical heritage of Nashville and have contributed to the world through song or other industry collaboration. With the addition of Loretta Lynn and Jack White, the Walk of Fame boasts 63 stars. Permanent sidewalk medallions with the artists’ name displayed in a star-and-guitar design will be installed in the sidewalk along the Music Mile.

The Music City Walk of Fame is an official project of Music City, Inc., the charitable foundation of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC), and is produced with the support of founding sponsor Gibson Guitar and sponsors Durango Boot, Hard Rock Café, the City of Nashville and Metro Parks. Nominations are open to the public and are accepted in the categories of Artist, Musician, Songwriter, and Producer/Music Industry Executive. Application forms are reviewed by the Music City Walk of Fame anonymous selection committee.
