IGGY POP: “JAMES BOND” SECOND ADVANCE TRACK FROM NEW ALBUM

IGGY POP

“JAMES BOND”

SECOND ADVANCE TRACK FROM NEW ALBUM FREE OUT SEPTEMBER 6 ON LOMA VISTA RECORDINGS

Iggy Pop has unwound a drastically different track from his coming album Free.  James Bond tells a story:

“I don’t know what she’s up to exactly, but the tables seem to be turning, and she’s taking over. Well, why not? I’ll try anything once.”

“I’ve never had more fun singing a lyric. Faith’s reading is so loaded, and Leron’s production and trumpet along with the band swings like crazy.”

Credits:
Iggy Pop – Vocal
Faith Vern – Additional Voice
Leron Thomas Trumpet
Robin Sherman – Bass
Thomas Glass – Drums
Ari Teitel – Guitar

The song is available for purchase and/or streaming here: https://found.ee/IG_JamesBond

Free, the album, is available for preorder now: https://found.ee/IG_Free

While Free follows the highest charting album of Iggy’s career, 2016’s GRAMMY-nominated Post Pop Depression, it has virtually nothing in common sonically with its predecessor—or with any other Iggy Pop album. As THE NEW YORK TIMES remarked upon hearing the title track:

“Iggy Pop’s ‘Free’ is brief, atmospheric and elusive. Amid sustained electronic tones from the guitarist Noveller and ghostly overdubbed Miles Davis-tinged trumpet lines from Leron Thomas, Pop’s voice appears only a few times, intoning, ‘I wanna be free.’ As the title song and opening track of an album due in September, it could lead anywhere.”

Full tracklisting for Free:

4. James Bond
5. Dirty Sanchez
6. Glow In The Dark

IGGY POP: NEW ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 6

IGGY POP

FREE

NEW ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 6 ON LOMA VISTA RECORDINGS

FIRST SINGLE AVAILABLE NOW

Iggy Pop has confirmed the title and release date of his new album: Free, the first new Iggy Pop album since 2016’s Post Pop Depression, will be released September 6 on Loma Vista and is available for preorder now: https://found.ee/IG_Free

While it follows the highest charting album of Iggy’s career, Free has virtually nothing in common sonically with its predecessor—or with any other Iggy Pop album.

Free, the eponymous single, is available to stream and purchase on all platforms here: https://found.ee/Song_Free

On the process that led Iggy and principal players Leron Thomas and Noveller to create this uniquely somber and contemplative entry in the Iggy Pop canon, Iggy says:

“This is an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice…

By the end of the tours following Post Pop Depression, I felt sure that I had rid myself of the problem of chronic insecurity that had dogged my life and career for too long.

But I also felt drained.  And I felt like I wanted to put on shades, turn my back, and walk away.  I wanted to be free.  I know that’s an illusion, and that freedom is only something you feel, but I have lived my life thus far in the belief that that feeling is all that is worth pursuing; all that you need – not happiness or love necessarily, but the feeling of being free.

So this album just kind of happened to me, and I let it happen.”

PAUL McCARTNEY: Lyrics And Music For It’s A Wonderful Life Musical By Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney is writing his first musical – an adaptation of one of the world’s most loved films

It’s A Wonderful Life

Music & Lyrics by Paul McCartney
Book and Lyrics by Lee Hall
Produced by Bill Kenwright

Today, Paul confirms a career first. He is working on a musical stage adaptation of one of the most iconic films in cinema history – Frank Capra’s “It’s A Wonderful Life”. Based on Philip Van Doren Stern’s “The Greatest Gift” the legendary movie was directed and produced by Frank Capra and released in 1946.

Paul has partnered with British theatre and film impresario Bill Kenwright who will produce the show. Bill originally approached Paul three years ago after acquiring the rights to the much-loved film that over seven decades since its release continues to be a Prime-Time must for television audiences all around the world. Paul and Bill enjoy a lifetime’s connection having both been born and raised in Liverpool, and both attended the Liverpool Institute High School (now LIPA – the acclaimed performing arts academy founded by Paul).

In addition to writing the music Paul has been working on the lyrics with the Tony Award winning English screen and play writer Lee Hall, who is also responsible for the book of the musical.

As a child Paul inherited a love of Broadway and show tunes from his father Jim who would perform at home on the family piano on every occasion possible, and this influence would eventually permeate into Paul’s own song-writing and diverse compositions.

Speaking about this news Paul said:

“Like many of these things this all started with an email.  Bill had asked if it was something I might be up for. Writing a musical is not something that had ever really appealed to me but Bill and I met up with Lee Hall and had a chat and I found myself thinking this could be interesting and fun.  ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ is a universal story we can all relate to.”

Bill Kenwright said:

“Working with Paul on “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a dream realised. To be honest I was hooked on first hearing him say “one/two/three/four” on the demo of the opening number! But since then it’s been an extraordinary journey – on every song I experience Paul’s unique gift of melody and composition. It’s musical theatre – but it’s always McCartney.

Paul, Lee, and I use the word “cherish” when we refer to our source material and that’s what we intend to do. Cherish Frank Capra’s creation.”

Lee Hall said:

“It’s A Wonderful Life is my favourite film. It has absolutely everything comedy, pathos and a rare humanity which has touched generation after generation. Yet it just couldn’t be more relevant. To give it a life on the stage is an immense privilege in itself but to do with Paul McCartney is off the scale. Paul’s wit, emotional honesty and melodic brilliance brings a whole new depth and breadth to the classic tale. I feel as if an angel must be looking after me.”

Paul, who has written some of the world’s most loved, celebrated and enduring music, has musically realised the emotional story of a man down on his luck George Bailey. Unaware of all the lives he has touched and how different his community would be had he never been born; George is close to suicide. However, he is saved by the intervention of a guardian angel – and, of course, as in all feel good, but resonant movies, George realises the true value of his life.

Some 70 years since the release of the film the story still remains relevant today, probably even more so, as a reminder to cherish family, friends and the life you have, something Paul McCartney has always strived to do in his own life and work.

For Bill Kenwright, the production will be a lifetime’s ambition.  As a very young producer, Bill personally reached out to Frank Capra to see if he could get the rights to turn the film into a musical. Bill received a lovely handwritten letter by reply – but it contained a no! However, out of the blue, many decades later he was offered the rights when he was in the middle of another project with Paramount. It was a massive moment for the now hugely successful producer, and he dared to dream of involving his school friend on what would be Paul’s first major musical journey. They met, and amongst discussing all things Liverpool, school and rock and roll, they sort of agreed to take things further…

It wasn’t until two years later that Paul shared his first musical ideas with Bill. Bill recalls: “It was a Friday night and I was in the office. I suppose you could say it hadn’t been the best of weeks. No real progress on multitudinous film and theatre projects – and Everton had lost the previous Saturday. Out of the blue I got an email from Paul asking my thoughts on his first stab at an opening song. He wasn’t sure – but wanted to know what Lee and I thought of it? I played the demo. Lee and I were unanimous. Our hero was a musical theatre writer!”

Paul was in the middle of releasing his number one album ‘Egypt Station’ in September 2018 as well as launching a global tour to support the album release, but in between touring and album commitments Paul found time to work with Lee Hall on more songs. Both here and in New York.

Bill remembers another moment in January of this year the day after he’d watched Everton lose in an FA Cup match at Millwall. He was inconsolable – but Lee rang him from the airport after working with Paul in New York and brought over a further six tracks in demo form. His gloom started to lift…

“They exceeded expectations for both of us. The songs take you somewhere you don’t expect to go. They sound simple – but it’s deceptive. That’s Paul’s genius. I don’t have to tell any lover of music how extraordinary he is – but he constantly takes my breath away. Since we worked together on the The Pitmen Painters Lee has been a special writer and person to me. And it’s a privilege to watch Paul and Lee create so vibrantly together.”

Having just completed the US leg of his current Freshen Up world tour in front of a sell-out audience at Los Angeles Dodger Stadium last weekend, Paul is still in the final stages of completing songs for his entry into musical theatre. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is set to launch in late 2020.

BECK: “SAW LIGHTNING (FREESTYLE)” VIDEO LIVE NOW

BECK

“SAW LIGHTNING (FREESTYLE)” VIDEO

LIVE NOW AT http://beck.to/SLFreestylePR

Beck’s new “Saw Lightning (Freestyle)” video captures the GRAMMY-winning artist stripping his latest single down to its bare bones. Rendered in striking minimalist black and white, “Saw Lightning (Freestyle)” relies solely on the impact of raw talent and passion: a man, a harmonica, a camera and nothing more. Beck’s vocals, stomping feet and solo harmonica somehow fill the same space occupied on the original by his raw acoustic slide guitar and Pharrell Williams’ drums, keyboards and mumbles.

Directed by Giovanni Ribisi and edited by Nick Roney, “Saw Lightning (Freestyle)” is a radically different take on Beck’s first single from his forthcoming 14th album, Hyperspace, due out sometime in the future on Capitol Records. Surprise released April 15, 2019, “Saw Lightning” was made available simultaneously as a single and as the score to the Beats by Dr. Dre Powerbeats Pro campaign, directed by GRAMMY winner Hiro Murai.

Beck will spend the remainder of the summer co-headlining the Night Running Tour with Cage The Elephant—named for “Night Running,” Cage The Elephant’s single featuring Beck from the band’s Social Cues album—beginning July 11th at Sunlight Supply Amphitheater in Ridgefield, WA.

New North American Dates Confirmed

Thom Yorke has confirmed a new series of live electronic performances to take place this fall in North America with Nigel Godrich and Tarik Barri, aka Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes.

The new shows will feature Thom Yorke along with Godrich and visual artist Barri performing songs spanning Yorke’s solo works The Eraser and Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, Atoms For Peace’s Amok, as well as new and unreleased material.

Following the September 2014 release of Yorke’s Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes album, he, Godrich and Barri embarked on their first tour, covering the UK, Europe and Japan throughout 2015. Following Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’ December 2017 reissue on XL Recordings, the trio made its U.S. debut headlining theaters in Los Angeles and Oakland and appearing at the Day For Night Festival in Houston. More recently, the trio played a series of U.S. dates November 23 through December 22, 2018, of which critics had to say:

“A beauty to behold… If there were ever a rock star to affirm the power and necessity of dancing, to return it to the realm of vital human expression, it is Yorke.”
— Washington Post

“Dense, intricate dance music designed to get lost in”
—Los Angeles Times

“Music to careen through the Star Gate to… And throughout it all, there remained his voice, as grand, elastic, and emotive as he’s ever been”
— Boston Globe

“What Yorke, Godrich and Barri produced on stage was a feast of sensory overload”
—St. Louis Post Dispatch

“Riveting… Yorke and Godrich did some of their most stunning live production work in between tracks.”

RADIOHEAD MAKES 18 HOURS OF STOLEN OK COMPUTER SESSIONS AVAILABLE AT BANDCAMP

MINIDISCS [HACKED]

RADIOHEAD MAKES 18 HOURS OF STOLEN OK COMPUTER SESSIONS AVAILABLE AT BANDCAMP

In response to last week’s leak of 18 minidisc files, Radiohead has decided to make the sessions available in their entirety on Bandcamp.

“We got hacked last week – someone stole Thom’s minidisc archive from around the time of OK Computer, and reportedly demanded $150,000 on threat of releasing it.

So instead of complaining – much – or ignoring it, we’re releasing all 18 hours on bandcamp in aid of Extinction Rebellion. Just for the next 18 days. So for £18 you can find out if we should have paid that ransom.

Never intended for public consumption (though some clips did reach the cassette in the OK Computer reissue) it’s only tangentially interesting. And very, very long. Not a phone download. Rainy out, isn’t it though?”
– Jonny Greenwood

The 18 minidiscs will be available for £18. All  proceeds will go to Extinction Rebellion, a socio-political movement which uses nonviolent resistance to protest against climate breakdown, biodiversity loss, and the risk of human extinction and ecological collapse.

The only album to be released solely under Linda’s name, Wide Prairie features Linda on vocals and various instruments on songs she wrote or co-composed and recorded with Wings between 1972 and 1980, the single-only ‘Seaside Woman’ / ‘B-Side to Seaside’ released under the pseudonym of Suzy and the Red Stripes, cover versions of classics by the McGuire Sisters, The Coasters and more, and solo work from the ‘80s and ‘90s including her final recording, ‘The Light Comes from Within’ (co-authored by and featuring Paul McCartney, as well as their son James on electric and acoustic guitar).

The album was recorded in various locations including Jamaica, Paris, Nashville and Sussex with contributors including husband Paul; son James; Wings members Denny Laine, Denny Seiwell, Henry McCullough, Jimmy McCulloch, Joe English and Laurence Juber; writer Carla Lane who also co-wrote ’The White Coated Man’ and ‘Cow’; Lee “Scratch” Perry and members of the Black Ark studio band Boris Gardiner, Winston Writer and Mikey Boo.

Two tracks from the release also highlight Linda’s interest in other art forms outside photography and music. ‘Seaside Woman’ featured in the Palme d’Or winning short film by Oscar Grillo at the Cannes Film Festival in 1980. ‘Oriental Night Fish’ also appeared in a short film of the same title created by Linda and Ian Emes.

Wide Prairie will be released August 2nd on limited edition white/blue colored vinyl and classic black vinyl, digitally and on streaming services. The reissue will mark the first time the album has been available on vinyl since its original 1998 release. The album is available for pre-order now.

To celebrate the first UK showing of the Linda McCartney Retrospective, the limited edition colour vinyl LP pressing of Wide Prairie will be available exclusively for one month prior to the album’s general release at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow from the exhibition’s July 5th opening.The major retrospective of Linda’s photography has been curated by Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney.
