THIRD MAN RECORDS ROCKTOBER EXTRAVAGANZA

JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD BLUES SERIES SINGLE ROLLINGSTONE.COM VIDEO PREMIERE

JO McCAUGHEY IMAGES FOR SALE

THE LOST NOTEBOOKS OF HANK WILLIAMS VINYL LP

THIRDMANRECORDS.COM

Third Man Records is giddy to announce the addition of JEFF the Brotherhood to the esteemed list of artists to release an exclusive Blue Series single. Due out October 4, JEFF The Brotherhood”s Blue Series 7-inch (TMR 072) is some 12 minutes of godhead drone jams: A-side “Whatever I Want” plods along like the sickest Melvins deep cut, while the B-side cover of Tiger B. Smith’s “Everything I Need” is raw chugging punk rock with attitude to spare. The video for “Whatever I Want” was directed by Third Man’s in-house photog Jo McCaughey and is sick and twisted in all the best ways–and will premiere on <http://RollingStone.com/> >  on the single”s Oct. 4 release date.

Speaking of Jo McCaughey, Third Man has also announced the sale of three of her exclusive images from the set of The Dead Weather’s video shoot for “I Cut Like A Buffalo.” As these first ever shots to emerge from the TMR Studio Dark Room prove, Jo is an indispensable part of the Third Man family, having shot nearly every sleeve for the Blue and Green Series of singles, and an ever present documentarian for the live shows, events and behind the scenes day to day life at Third Man.

Also coming in October from Third Man: the vinyl LP edition of “The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams” (TMR 119). Stemming from unused lyrics left behind by the legendary singer after his death in 1953 and spearheaded by Bob Dylan, the album has a wide spectrum of current artists putting the music to Williams’ lyrics with fantastic results. Third Man”s own Jack White, Dylan, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Norah Jones and Merle Haggard are just some of the illustrious names to grace this truly unique project. The CD/download will be available October 4th via Columbia and the LP will be available from Third Man later in the month.

THIRD MAN RECORDS ANNOUNCES AUGUST RELEASES FROM LORETTA LYNN, LANIE LANE, WHITE DENIM

Available at Third Man Records in Nashville,thirdmanrecords.com, iTunes & The Third Man Rolling Record Store

Third Man Records heats up an already sweltering summer with a trio of very special August releases from Loretta Lynn, Lanie Lane and White Denim.

First up is the debut vinyl pressing of Loretta Lynn”s Van Lear Rose (TMR-063), out August 9. This multiple Grammy winning 2004 classic paired Lynn with Third Man”s own Jack White and the result was one of the most acclaimed and beloved records of the modern era (Van Lear Rose is tied with Brian Wilson”s Smile as the aggregated highest rated non-reissue record in Metacritic”s history). With all songs composed by Lynn and White at the helm of the record”s raw and heartfelt vibe, Van Lear Rose is more than worthy of its two Grammy Awards (Best Country Album and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for lead single “Portland, Oregon”).

The inaugural vinyl edition of Loretta Lynn”s Van Lear Rose is mastered directly from the original analog masters, pressed on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl and coupled with a vibrant Stoughton tip-on sleeve. There will be a limited edition blue vinyl pressing of 300, 100 copies of which will be sold at Third Man dgfev online casino Records in Nashville on Aug. 9th from 12 noon. Details re: where the rest will be sold to follow.

On August 23, Lanie Lane will release the latest of the Jack White-produced Blue Series 45s, “Aint Hungry” b/w “My Man” (TMR-108) on 7” vinyl and iTunes. Imbued with the spirit of Muddy Waters, and channeling the grit of Billie Holiday, Lanie  (pronounced “Lannie”) Lane wraps the sounds of a golden age around a voice that is as rich and warm as it is sweet. Her delivery is distinct – earthy, with the elbow grease to get the job done, but tied up with a colorful ribbon and handed over with grace and charm.

Finally and also on August 23, White Denim will release the newest installment in the Live at Third Man album series (TMR-102). Showcasing material from the new album D, White Denim”s Live at Third Man set is an amazing collection of freaked out southern rock space explorations from Austin TX”s finest.

The new releases will be available at the Third Man store in Nashville, at thirdmanrecords.com, from iTunes and on The Third Man Rolling Record Store as it visits the Newport Folk Festival and other destinations to be announced.

BLACK MILK: “BRAIN” B/W “ROYAL MEGA” (TMR-101) THIRD MAN RECORDS’ FIRST FORAY INTO HIP HOP OUT NOW

Third Man Records is excited to announce the release of “Brain” b/w “Royal Mega” (TMR-101), a new single by acclaimed Detroit MC and producer Black Milk, who co-produced both tracks with Third Man’s Jack White.

Third Man’s first foray into the hip hop world would naturally be a release from one of the most vital hip hop artists around. Black Milk (born Curtis Cross) made his recorded debut in 2004 as a member of B.R. Gunna on the Dirty District Vol. 2 compilation and released his solo debut Sound of the City the following year. Since then, Black Milk has built a rep as brilliant producer, working with the likes of the late J Dilla, Slum Village, and Lloyd Banks, while releasing four more solo albums (including 2010’s Album of the Year which cracked the Billboard 200) as well as numerous collaborations, most recently Random Axe (with Sean Price and Guilty Simpson).

Performed with a live 9-piece backing band, Black Milk’s debut single for Third Man is a funk and soul imbibed slice of classic head nodding hip hop.  Both tracks are written by Black Milk and co-produced by Black Milk and Jack White–who also contributes guitars to A-side “Brain” and drums to B-side “Royal Mega.”

“Brain” b/w “Royal Mega” is available now at finer vendors of independent vinyl, via thirdmanrecords.com and digitally from iTunes.

THIRD MAN ANNOUNCES WHITE STRIPES VAULT PACKAGE

Live In Mississippi Double LP,  “Signed DC”/“I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” 7-inch, Under Moorhead Lights All Fargo Night DVD

Available Exclusively To Vault Members

New Members Must Register By End Of April To Qualify For This Package At www.thirdmanrecords.com

Third Man Records is excited to announce  an upcoming Vault package documenting three decidedly different eras of the White Stripes.

First is Live in Mississippi, a recording of the White Stripes’ final live concert from July 31st, 2007 in Southaven, Mississippi. Presented in crystalline audio quality and spread across 2 LP’s pressed on 180-gram vinyl, this  recording is (arguably) the band at the top of their game. With the local geography looming large on their minds, the set list is decidedly heavy on the blues and features covers of songs by Robert Johnson, Son House and Leadbelly. The rest of the set includes songs from all six of the White Stripes’ studio albums and the show is offered in its entirety.

This quarter’s 7-inch features some of the White Stripes’ very first recordings. The a-side is a haunting, stark version of “Signed DC,” a cover of the band Love’s original from its self-titled 1966 debut. The flipside is a breathtaking rendition of the Otis Redding classic “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.”  Recorded in Detroit in September of 1997 a mere two months after the Stripes’ live debut, this single provides a heretofore unheard era of the band. Although their debut single “Let’s Shake Hands” wouldn’t be released for another eight months, this recording shows how fully-formed the general idea, aesthetic and approach of the White Stripes was from the very start.

The final component of this collection is a DVD entitled Under Moorhead Lights All Fargo Night. Recorded at Ralph’s Corner Bar in Moorhead, Minnesota on June 13th, 2000, this previously unseen footage captures the band immediately following the release of their sophomore album De Stijl on what was their first extended bout of touring across the United States. Performing for only a handful of people, the show is heavy on the band’s earlier material with a spirited cover of Iggy Pop’s “I’m Bored” being of particular excitement and note.

The package is available exclusively to Vault members. New members must register at www.thirdmanrecords.com by the end of April in order to qualify for it.

THIRD MAN RECORDS SIGNS SEASICK STEVE TO ONE ALBUM NORTH AMERICAN DEAL

Two-Song Third Man Blue Series Single To Be Released Soon

Third Man Records proudly announce the signing of a one album North American record deal with Oakland-born, Tennessee-reared UK sensation Seasick Steve.

Having previously made his way variously as farmhand, carnie, cowboy and hobo, Seasick Steve’s unique arsenal of instruments includes the Three-String Trance Wonder (a custom-tuned three-string guitar  with a Harmony pickup attached by duct tape that he’s described occasionally as the “biggest piece of shit in the world”), the One-Stringed Diddley Bow (don’t ask) and the MDM or Mississippi Drum Machine (a wooden box stomped on to provide percussion).

Seasick Steve has risen to national prominence in the UK, where his albums including I Started Out With Nothing And I Still Got Most Of It Left and Man From Another Time have charted in in the Top 10 and his sold out tours have featured headline gigs at such prestigious venues as the Royal Albert Hall, the Manchester Apollo, the Grand Opera House in Belfast, and appearances at the Reading, Leeds and Glastonbury festivals.

Seasick Steve’s forthcoming album will be released later this year in North America via Third Man Records and will be preceded by a two-song single for the label’s Blue Series. He will also be playing a small run of U.S. gigs prior to the album’s release, including March 17 at the Belmont lounge in Austin TX, March 31 at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland OR, April 4 at Slim’s in San Francisco, April 5 at the Blank Club in San Jose, and April 7 at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles.
