In partnership with Jaunt, the technology company building the hardware and software to make truly immersive cinematic VR possible, Jack & Third Man have brought forth a mind-blowing mobile application that allows fans with a Google Cardboard viewer (learn more here) and a recent 5″ or 6″ Android phone to see him perform in a way no one ever has. “JACK WHITE: THIRD-D” was filmed using state of the art technology – Jaunt’s proprietary 360 degree, stereoscopic 3D cameras and 3D sound-field microphones; it features music mixed in Dolby Atmos. To celebrate this leap for concert-going mankind, Third Man Records will be giving away special edition Third Man Google Cardboard headsets to the first 75 Android phone users that purchase Jack’s Lazaretto ULTRA LP in the Nashville store on Wednesday, December 10. Third Man will also be showcasing the new app with three on-site demo cardboard headsets equipped with Samsung S5 phones in their store starting on Wednesday.

Jaunt delivers a completely new way to present and experience media. The Jaunt platform makes use of advanced algorithms and computational photography software to enable the creation of seamless, omnidirectional 3D experiences. Last Friday, Jack’s second full length album, Lazaretto (Third Man Records/Columbia), hauled in three GRAMMY award nominations including Best Alternative Music Album. Lazaretto‘s title track secured nominations for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance. The 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards will air Sunday, February 8, 2015 on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 9, 2014) – First day ticket sales for U2’s iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour 2015 have necessitated the addition of several pairs of shows.

Scrambling to satisfy overwhelming fan demand – including a record-setting 118,000 fans queuing online to purchase tickets to the band’s four nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden – two new shows have been added in each of the following cities: New York, Chicago, Boston, Montreal, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin & Paris.

With the new shows confirmed, iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE will play a total of six nights at NYC’s Madison Square Garden, and four nights total in Amsterdam, Berlin, Boston, Montreal, Paris & Stockholm.

Tickets for the newly added shows will go on general sale Monday, Dec. 15, preceded by a U2.comsubscriber pre-sale running Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. through Friday, Dec. 12 at noon (all times local).

“We are going to try to have a completely different feeling from night one to night two,” said Bono, “and have some fun playing with the idea of innocence and experience. More to be revealed!”

THIRD MAN RECORDS PRESENTS: DANNY KROHA “ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME”

“I was very reluctant to put this stuff out because there’s a ton of rootsy cornballs out there doing this kind of stuff and all of them play guitar way better than me. But I think I have something here that doesn’t really sound like anything else. The numbers that bounce really bounce. The numbers that drone really drone. I’m excited about this.” – Danny Kroha

We are too! The founding member of THE GORIES tried his hand at the banjo, dulcimer, diddley bow, washtub bass, jug and mouth organ for his first release under his own name, Angels Watching Over Me, and the result is a distinct step forward for gospel and folk. Kroha has consistently pushed himself to reinvention, and has influenced countless imitators and poseurs along the way. His guitar work with Rocket 455 is the most quintessentially “Detroit” rock and roll this side of the MC5. The record was recorded in a 100-year-old, vacant house in Detroit, and features songs popularized by the likes of Son House, I.D. Stamper, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and Brother Will Hairston. This is a decidedly different Danny Kroha than we’ve seen in his past projects with Demolition Doll Rods and Danny and the Darleans, and we have to say… we like him. With Angels Watching Over Me, he firmly establishes himself as one of the pre-eminent practitioners of a genre we hold so dear.

Closing out an exceptional year at Third Man Records is a release that’s pretty near and dear to us. It should come as no surprise to the TMR faithful that Lillie Mae Rische is a complete bad-ass and an all-around powerhouse of melody. She first joined the TMR family a little over two years ago and ever since – whether onstage with Jack White and his band or in the studio – she’s been, how you say, delivering us from evil with fiddle playing so stupefying as to propel listeners into the jaws of heavenly awe. Feel me on this, y’all?

Here we have Lillie Mae Rische center stage. Her contribution to our Blue Series showcases two original songs, charming and plaintive, with the B-side hitting us with a story of hearts on the road, having to reconcile distance and desire. Meanwhile, the A-side is a gentle yet stern anthem about the sweet and sour circumstances of being alone. All in a voice that’s sweeter than peach brandy.

Joining her are some longtime Third Man contributors Carl Broemel, Dominic Davis, Jack Lawrence, and local drum god, Whip Triplet.

Then I thought it is not just a game song, this will get played outside the game so it has got to be stand alone too, you can’t have references to aliens or people will think ‘what’s he talking about?’ So it had to have its own stand alone meaning and integrity.”

In Destiny, you are cast as a Guardian of the last city on Earth, able to explore the ancient ruins of our solar system in a social, living universe filled with other players. You will journey through environments spanning the red dunes of Mars to the lush jungles of Venus while creating your own legend as you and your friends venture out into the stars to reclaim the treasures and secrets lost after the collapse of humanity. Over the course of your adventures you will become more powerful as you wield rare and exotic weapons, gear, and super abilities. In addition to the story campaign, you can take your unique character into any co-operative or competitive activity, including the ability to compete with or against your friends in The Crucible, Destiny’s competitive multiplayer mode featuring numerous playlists and maps spanning diverse environments across the galaxy.

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS: ELEVEN CLASSIC ALBUMS TO BE REISSUED BEGINNING DECEMBER 16, 2014

Eleven classic Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds albums dating back to 1984’s critically-acclaimed debut From Her To Eternity are to appear on heavyweight, 180g vinyl for the first time.

Four albums will be released December 16, 2014 with the remaining titles to follow in 2015. The campaign follows the recent acquisition of the Mute Records catalogue by BMG.

Each album has been re-mastered in a process overseen by former Bad Seed and founder member, the multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey. All album artwork reflects the original release from the cover to the printed inner sleeves.

BMG Director of Masters and Product Management Didier Dehauteur said, “The Bad Seeds catalogue is a precious piece of rock history. We are determined to deliver a set of reissues which genuinely pay tribute to a seminal band.”

The following titles will be released on December 16, 2014:

From Her To Eternity – Single LP
(Original Release Date June 18, 1984)
Recorded in London Studios The Garden and Trident, From Her To Eternity marked the debut of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds after the break-up of Nick Cave’s former band The Birthday Party. Features Blixa Bargeld, of Berlin’s Einstuerzende Neubauten, on guitar. Said Cave at the time, “I don’t really think he knows how to play in the conventional sense at all. He just makes these incredible sounds.”

The Firstborn is Dead – Single LP
(Original Release Date June 3, 1985)
Album number two was recorded in Berlin. Co-produced by Flood and the band, it was rich with references to the blues and bluesmen, the American South, and especially to Elvis Presley. Soundsdescribed the album as “the most evocative blues record for years.”

Kicking Against The Pricks – Single LP
(Original Release Date Aug 18, 1986)
The band’s third album was a collection of cover versions of songs ranging from “I’m Gonna Kill That Woman” (John Lee Hooker) to “By The Time I Get To Phoenix” (Jimmy Webb) to “Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart” (Roger Greenaway, Roger Cook). Said Cave, “They were all done for different reasons. Some songs were tributes…other songs we didn’t think the song was ever done particularly well in the first place. Some songs had just haunted my childhood, like ‘The Carnival Is Over’ (Tom Springfield), which I always loved.”

Your Funeral…My Trial – Double LP
(Original Release Date Nov 3, 1986)
First released as a double EP, Your Funeral…My Trial has a notable melancholy tone. Cave himself later said, “(This is) my favorite of the records we’ve done, is very special to me and a lot of amazing things happened, musically, in the studio. There are some songs on that record that as far as I’m concerned are just about perfect as we can get really – songs like ‘The Carny,’ ‘Your Funeral, My Trial,’ and ‘Stranger Than Kindness.’”
