Paul McCartney’s “Out There” tour will feature brand new, never before seen production and, as ever, hours of material from the most beloved catalog in popular music, with Paul performing songs spanning his entire career–as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course The Beatles.

The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity. For approximately three hours, many of the greatest moments of the last 50 years of musical history–not to mention the soundtracks of entire lives–are magically brought to life as only Paul can do.  Last year marked 40 years since Paul’s premiere tour as a solo artist and these past four decades have seen him play in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people and even a performance beamed into outer space! Having played with his peerless band of Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens (keyboards), Rusty Anderson (guitar), Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums) and Brian Ray (bass/guitar) for over ten years, Paul never disappoints.

Paul is throwing himself into 2013 with full force following yet another landmark year in 2012, which saw him conclude his record-breaking “On The Run” tour, release his Grammy-winning Kisses On The Bottom album, accept a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, play at both the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics Opening Ceremony, be named MusiCares Person of the Year, and headline 12-12-12 The Concert For Sandy Relief–to highlight just a few memorable moments. With the “Out There'” tour and a new studio album in the works, it looks like 2013 will show no signs of Paul slowing down.

The “Out There” tour will see Paul and his band travel the world throughout the year, visiting both places of historical significance to Paul and new spots for the very first time. Further announcements and dates will be added in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to www.paulmccartney.com for official news and updates.

THIRD MAN RECORDS VAULT PACKAGE #16 FEATURES EXCLUSIVE WHITE STRIPES VINYL DOUBLE SHOT:

Nine Miles From the White City Double Live LP

“I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother’s Heart (demo)” b/w “Little Acorns (demo)” 7-Inch

PLUS PICTURES FROM ELEPHANT 56-PAGE PHOTO BOOK DOCUMENTING THE 2002 ELEPHANT SESSIONS

In celebration of the ten-year anniversary of the White Stripes’s Elephant, Third Man has gone searching underneath couch cushions and in shady back alleys for the perfect Vault package to accompany the label’s reissue of the album. And it looks like they’ve nailed it.

Of utmost excitement is a 2 x LP blistering live set by the White Stripes recorded July 2nd, 2003 at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Titled Nine Miles From the White City, this 26-song, 79-minute, tour-de-force performance is indicative of the absolute explosiveness Jack and Meg embodied at the height of their 2003 touring. Highlights include a rare live performance of Captain Beefheart’s “Party of Special Things to Do,” an especially frenetic “The Hardest Button to Button” as well as the Stripes Christmas tune “Candy Cane Children.” Hearing “Seven Nation Army” in the middle of a set (and not as a closer or encore where it would soon find itself for the remainder of the band’s career) is a quaint reminder of the inauspicious beginnings of the future stadium anthem.  The crystalline soundboard recording is best experienced through the impromptu, off-the-cuff performance of a song written on-the-spot that would be come to called “Little Cream Soda.” The song would be re-discovered (via an audience recording) by Jack and Meg during the recording of their album Icky Thump, dusted off and recorded for what would become the White Stripes final studio album.

Providing rare insight into the demo process, the 7″ in this Vault package features Jack White’s solo demos of the songs “I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother’s Heart” and “Little Acorns.” Accompanied only by his trusty piano (salvaged from a Catholic school in Detroit as it was being shuttered), Jack’s double-tracked vocals lend an otherworldly air to “…Heart.”  “Little Acorns,” in the most happy of accidents, pairs a parable spoken by legendary Detroit-area news anchor Mort Crim with White’s germination of a song idea, all through the magic of recycled 1/4″ analog tape. Of special note are White’s previously unheard guide vocals… edited out of the final mix once it would appear on Elephant.

Finally, tying all previous components back to the actual making of Elephant, the “bonus” item for this package is a 56-page collection of photos taken by David Swanson during the recording of the album. With the wonderful Toe-Rag Studio in London as the setting, this peek into the White Stripes’ recording process is both revelatory and intimate. With only three of the fifty-plus images having ever been published before, such a cache of striking images only furthers to cement the depth and breadth of Third Man’s Vault. The live show, the demos and the photos all help to contextualize Elephant, the surroundings it sprung from, the resultant whirlwind it created and all the chaos in-between. Ten years later, it’s a time that still resonates very deeply with all those at Third Man and they hope you feel so too.

PAUL McCARTNEY ALL-NEW 2013 “OUT THERE” WORLD TOUR ADDS TULSA & WASHINGTON DC DATES

May 29 at BOK Center in Tulsa OK

July 12 at Nationals Park in Washington DC

On Sale Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. Local Time

Paul McCartney has added two more U.S. dates to his all-new 2013 “Out There” tour.

On May 29, Paul will return to the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK for his first show at the venue since marking its first anniversary in August 2009 with the only arena gig of his summer 2009 stadium tour. July 12 will see Paul once again in Washington DC–site of The Beatles’ first ever U.S. concert in 1964 at the Washington Coliseum–for his first public performance since his monumental August 2009 show at FedExField.

As previously announced, the tour will also be making stops May 22 in Austin, TX at the Frank Erwin Center and July 9 in Boston, MA at  Fenway Park.

Tickets to the newly announced shows will be on sale beginning Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. local time at bokcenter.com (Tulsa) and nationals.com/mccartney (Washington DC). American Express® Cardmembers can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Tuesday, April 9 at 10 a.m.  through Thursday, April 11 at 10 p.m.. All times local.

(drums) and Brian Ray (bass/guitar) for over ten years, Paul never disappoints–as the reviews of Paul’s 2009 visits to Tulsa and DC will testify:

“Paul McCartney is the only person in the entire world capable of what happened on Saturday night: He sang his classics for nearly three hours as he presided over an enormously and universally pleasing lovefest at FedEx Field… Macca wasn’t stingy in the slightest when it came giving the fans all they wanted — a whopping 21 Beatles songs were included in the set. He’s the definition of a legend… simply one of those shows that left you feeling tingly on the way home.”–THE WASHINGTON POST

“Simply put, this was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I didn’t want Paul McCartney’s show at FedEx Field last night to end. But when it did — after a two-hour set and a 30-minute encore — I think I speak for the rest of the audience when I said I left the stadium satisfied.”–THE BALTIMORE SUN

“McCartney put his seemingly endless reservoir of energy to work ensuring that no one will forget the three hours they spent with him Monday night at Tulsa’s BOK Center, a concert that celebrated the venue’s first anniversary… He showed no sign of fatigue after the lengthy show, having given Tulsa an extraordinary survey of what is arguably the greatest songwriting career in rock ‘n’ roll history.”–THE OKLAHOMAN

“A sold-out crowd crammed into the venue, and Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry declared Aug. 17 ‘Paul McCartney Day’… Reminiscent of iconic images of teens swooning before the stage at Beatles’ concerts of decades past, women of all ages hopped to their feet Monday as they shook and screamed, leaning over a safety rail up front and reaching out to McCartney. Tears welled in listeners’ eyes… McCartney is considered by many to be the greatest songwriter in history… His entire show was tight and loud — and timeless.”–TULSA WORLD

This is Paul’s second Fenway attendance record, the first being when his August 5 & 6, 2009 shows drew the highest ever two-day concert attendance in the history of the storied ballpark.

PAUL McCARTNEY TO PLAY FIRST EVER AUSTIN, TEXAS DATE ON ALL-NEW 2013 “OUT THERE” WORLD TOUR

Tickets For May 22 Show at Frank Erwin Center On Sale Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. Local Time at livenation.com and texasboxoffice.com

Paul McCartney has announced the date and location of his first ever date in Austin, Texas.

Paul’s all-new 2013 “Out There” tour will land at the Frank Erwin Center Wednesday, May 22.

Tickets to Paul McCartney’s historic debut in Austin will be on sale beginning Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. local time at livenation.comand texasboxoffice.com. American Express® Cardmembers can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Tuesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. through Thursday, April 11 at 10 p.m. All times Central Standard Time.

Last year marked40 years since Paul’s premiere tour as a solo artist and these past four decades have seen him play in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people and even a performance beamed into outer space!  Having played with his peerless band of Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens (keyboards), Rusty Anderson (guitar), Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums) and Brian Ray (bass/guitar) for over ten years, Paul never disappoints–as the reviews of Paul’s most recent visit to the state of Texas last November at Houston’s Minute Maid Park will testify:

“Paul McCartney didn’t just turn back time at the Astros ball field, he stopped the clock… The concert lasted nearly three hours, with McCartney never leaving the stage, tearing through songs from the Beatles, his time with Wings, evolving into an icon of popular music, the brightest star in galaxy…. The hits just kept on coming… the sound was overpowering and crystal clear, roaring to the back row and upper deck with ease. There was no need for him to introduce any of the songs. The audience could name that tune in one note… There haven’t been fireworks in the neighborhood like that since the Astros won the pennant in 2005.”–THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE

“Seeing Paul McCartney live is a lot of things. It’s communing with a spirit that touched millions and will touch millions for as long as humanity lurches forward. It’s hearing the bedrock anthems and the proto-everything blasts that made the past fifty years of music so damned interesting… McCartney’s set was an exhibition of the past 50 years of pop and everything that is hopefully to come. And would you believe that the man nary took a drink of water, rushed off stage for a costume change, an oxygen treatment, or an instrumental break for two hours? Even still his energy levels were off the charts, for anyone of any age… Some legacy acts touring these days, even a decade younger than McCartney, could never keep up.”–THE HOUSTON PRESS

The “Out There” tour will see Paul and his band travel the world throughout the year, visiting both places of historical significance to Paul and–as in the case of Austin–new spots for the very first time. Further announcements and dates will be added in the coming weeks.  Stay tuned to www.paulmccartney.com for official news and updates.

MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST

Chen Shi-Zheng, Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett’s Extraordinary Music Theater Collaboration To Run Throughout LINCOLN CENTER FESTIVAL 2013, JULY 6–28

New York, NY, March 27, 2013 – Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, today announced the  2013 Festival’s line-up, which runs from July 6 through 28, 2013. Single tickets go on sale on April 8 for the festival, which will unfold in six venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus. There will be a total of 62 performances by artists and ensembles from ten countries.

Opening the festival is Monkey: Journey to the West, an extraordinary music theater collaboration based on the classic Chinese folktale “Journey to the West” which dates to 1592.  Conceived and directed by internationally renowned opera and film director Chen Shi-Zheng, with music by Damon Albarn, lead singer of Blur, and design and animation by award-winning artist Jamie Hewlett, who, with Albarn, created the virtual band, Gorillaz, Monkey: Journey to the West will run throughout the festival with 27 performances in the David H. Koch Theater.

A theatrical spectacle, Monkey: Journey to the West follows the fantastical trek undertaken by a monk who travels from China to India seeking the Buddhist sacred scriptures.  On his journey through an enchanted world, led by the irrepressible Monkey King, the monk and his magical animal companions have many adventures, both comical and challenging.

Damon Albarn’s score features washes of electronic sounds, brass fanfares, electronic percussion, and Chinese pop melodies.  Jamie Hewlett’s designs, animations, and eye-popping costumes, are influenced by Japanese animé. And Chen Shi-Zheng’s thrilling vision transforms classic Chinese martial arts, circus acts, and acrobatics. Together, the three collaborators bring a dazzling, boundary-breaking approach to this timeless Chinese epic.

Monkey: Journey to the West is a music theater piece based on a classic Chinese folktale “Journey to the West” which dates to 1592. It is conceived, written and directed by Chen Shi-Zheng. The composer is Damon Albarn, best known in the U.S. as the singer/songwriter in the band Blur.  The designer/animator is Jamie Hewlett, who, together with Albarn, created the virtual band, Gorillaz*.

Over the course of this 100-minute, fantastical journey, the monk Tripitaka, travels from China to India, facing many challenges while searching for the sacred Buddhist scriptures.  The mischievous Monkey King leads Tripitaka and his animal companion protectors, including a pig and a horse, in a series of perilous and comic adventures and misadventures.

The dazzling production combines elements of music theater, bold and stunning animation, and performances by Chinese vocalists, martial artists and the Jiangsu Yancheng Acrobatic Company. Damon Albarn’s original and compelling score uses washes of electronic sounds, brass fanfares, electronic percussion, and Chinese pop melodies. Jamie Hewlett’s designs, animations, and eye-popping costumes reference the world of Japanese animé.

Monkey: Journey to the West created a sensation when it premiered at the first Manchester International Festival in England in 2007.  It was then performed at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and at Spoleto Festival USA, followed by performances at the Royal Opera House in London.

Singer/songwriter/producer Damon Albarn is the recipient of four Brits, two Ivor Novello Awards and a Grammy Award. His second opera Dr Dee, co-created with Rufus Norris, premiered at Manchester International Festival in 2011. In addition to his work with Blur and Gorillaz, Albarn has released a number of recordings, including Mali Music (2002), The Good The Bad and The Queen (2006), Monkey: Journey to the West (2007), Rocket Juice & The Moon (2012) and Dr Dee (2012). He has also produced music for Gorillaz, Amadou and Mariam, written music for film soundtracks, and most recently co-produced Bobby Womack’s current album The Bravest Man in The Universe. Albarn formed Africa Express, a collective of African and Western musicians in 2007, and toured the UK with them aboard a train last September as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

Creator of comic book series Tank Girl and co-creator of Gorillaz, Jamie Hewlett has forged a distinctive visual style and a unique place in British pop culture. Tank Girl was his first major commercial success. Hewlett also conceived the visual concept behind the several-million-selling, multi-award-winning virtual band Gorillaz, which won him the Design Museum’s Designer of the Year Award in 2006. Other projects include the Bafta award-winning titles for the BBC’s coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Chen Shi-Zheng directed the epic Peony Pavilion for Lincoln Center Festival 99 and subsequently staged three other productions for the Festival: The Night Banquet, 2002; The Orphan of Zhao, 2003; and My Life as a Fairytale, 2005. His other opera credits include Monteverdi’s Orfeo with English National Opera; Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas for the Spoleto Festival USA; Mozart’s Così fan tutte at Aix-en Provence Festival; Miss Fortune at the Royal Opera House in London; and Nixon in China for Theatre du Châtelet in Paris. His first film, Dark Matter, won the Sundance Film Festival’s Alfred P. Sloan Award. For Festival 2013, he is also directing the chamber opera, Matsukaze (Wind in the Pines) by Toshio Hosokawa.
