PAUL McCARTNEY: EGYPT STATION—EXPLORER’S EDITION

PAUL McCARTNEY
EGYPT STATION — EXPLORER’S EDITION

MAY 17 RELEASE FEATURING EGYPT STATION II ALBUM OF ADDITIONAL STUDIO & LIVE TRACKS

FRESHEN UP U.S. TOUR 2019 KICKS OFF MAY 23 IN NEW ORLEANS

Paul McCartney has confirmed a May 17 release for Egypt Station – Explorer’s Edition on Capitol Records. This expanded version of Paul’s #1 charting Egypt Station will arrive barely a week prior to the start of the U.S. leg of Paul’s Freshen Up Tour—his first extended stateside run since the One On One Tour that played to some two million fans around the world.

Egypt Station was released September 7, 2018 to stellar reviews. Rolling Stone raved, “Macca keeps adding new gems to his songbook, with nothing to prove except he’s the only genius who can do this… And, oh yeah — in his spare time, he happens to still be the greatest live performer on Earth,” while Entertainment Weekly described the album as “the still-vital life force of a superstar who has been there and everywhere and is glad just to be here now.”

Egypt Station – Explorer’s Edition is comprised of the original record plus a second album, Egypt Station II. The bonus disc collects all songs released during the Egypt Station voyage, from studio tracks including the surprise single “Get Enough” to live performances captured at stops such as Abbey Road Studios, The Cavern and Grand Central Station.

The complete track listing for Egypt Station II is:
Get Started
Nothing For Free
Frank Sinatra’s Party
Sixty Second Street
Who Cares [Full Length]
Get Enough
Come On To Me [Live At Abbey Road Studios]
Fuh You [Live At The Cavern]
Confidante [Live At LIPA]

BECK: “SAW LIGHTNING” NEW SINGLE OUT NOW

BECK

“SAW LIGHTNING”

NEW SINGLE OUT NOW

NEW ALBUM HYPERSPACE ON ITS WAY FROM THE FUTURE

Beck has offered fans a glimpse of the future today in the form of “Saw Lightning,” a stunning new track featuring Beck’s unmistakable raw acoustic slide guitar and harmonica playing. “Saw Lightning” was written and produced by Beck and Pharrell Williams, who contributes drums, keyboards and mumbles.

“Saw Lightning” is available both as a single and as the perfect music to power the new Beats by Dr. Dre Powerbeats Pro campaign, a high-energy film directed by Grammy Award-winning filmmaker Hiro Murai.

“Saw Lightning” is the first track to be released from Beck’s forthcoming Hyperspace, to be released via Capitol Records at an as yet undetermined point in the space time continuum. In the meantime, Beck fans can tide themselves over with his already prolific 2019 output, including “Tarantula” from Music Inspired by ROMA, “Super Cool” (featuring Robyn & The Lonely Island) from The LEGO Movie 2, and most recently his feature appearance on Cage The Elephant’s “Night Running.”

Hyperspace will be Beck’s 14th album, following 2017’s Colors, which won Best Alternative Music Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical at the 61st GRAMMY Awards earlier this year.

Scott Johnson Inquest

The inquest into the death of our friend and crew member, Scott Johnson, has now concluded. The inquest itself was conducted in a constructive, thorough and fair-minded way. It revealed the negligence and failings that led to Scott’s death.

A verdict of accidental death was returned, which feels frustratingly insufficient given that the stage collapse was shown the be preventable. The jury have made sound and practical recommendations to prevent such an accident happening again and to ensure the future safety of show crews and audiences. It’s up to all of us now to make sure that these recommendations are implemented.

We’d like to express our gratitude to the Coroner’s Office and the Jury for their tireless work in the Inquest. Our love and respect go out to Ken and Sue Johnson, Scott’s parents. He will be forever in our thoughts.

ALL WITHIN MY HANDS FOUNDATION: SECOND ANNUAL DAY OF SERVICE

ALL WITHIN MY HANDS FOUNDATION

SECOND ANNUAL DAY OF SERVICE

Metallica, All Within My Hands & Feeding America Partnering with 50+ Food Banks on May 22nd

Last year’s first ever All Within My Hands Day of Service enlisted more than 1,000 volunteers to spend a day working at local food banks across the U.S..

And now the All Within My Hands Foundation announces its second annual Day of Service on Wednesday, May 22nd. Once again Metallica fans across the U.S. are invited to volunteer for a day at food banks in communities that have supported Metallica on its North American dates over the course of the WorldWired Tour.

In cooperation with Feeding America, Metallica and AWMH have been proud to make contributions to their local partners in those cities. Now, once again, they humbly ask their friends across the country to supporting the fight against hunger in their neighborhoods.

More than 50 food banks will be participating in this year’s activities–more than twice as many as last year—and each registered volunteer will receive a special All Within My Hands T-shirt commemorating our united Day of Service. Please note that space is limited and therefore registering in advance is mandatory. Unfortunately it will not be possible to accept walk-ins.

For a complete list of participating food banks and information on how to register to volunteer, go to metallica.com or allwithinmyhands.org.

Those who do not live near one of the participating food banks, or are otherwise unavailable on May 22nd, are encouraged to visit www.feedingamerica.org to see how they can contribute.

Metallica thanks everyone who continues to support the efforts of All Within My Hands and the local organizations the band and foundation have been honored to assist.  A special thanks goes out to Metallica and AWMH’s friends at Salesforce for their help in making this Day of Service happen.

#34 ON BILLBOARD 200

CHICAGO DATE RESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 8th 2019

Critical acclaim meets commercial fame as Jenny Lewis’s On The Line (Warner Bros. Records) has made its explosive debut across the U.S. charts: #1 Alternative Album, LP Vinyl Albums and Internet Albums; #2 Current Rock Albums; #4 Billboard Top Albums, Top Current Albums, Digital Albums and Current Digital Albums; and #34 on the Billboard Top 200.

On The Line has been heralded as “(FOUR STARS) glorious” by Rolling Stone and her “best work to date” by Vulture, and the reviews continue to thunderously roll in with the most recent round of raves:

“The best of her four albums outside of Rilo Kiley, On The Line is absolutely dazzling. It sounds decidedly grown up, mature both lyrically and musically, and it’s a spectacular studio effort. Lewis sings contemplative lyrics with a glamorous edge, giving us an album that’s as much a rock ‘n’ roll relaxer as it is a lyrical thunderbolt…her best solo work to date.” — PASTE

“On the Line is classic Jenny… the elegant flourishes of a seasoned and confident songwriter…This record sounds like dream, idiosyncratically but immaculately produced, full of the sorts of little details that make a song feel crafted rather than just made…If there’s one sound that never gets old, it’s the irregular beat of Jenny Lewis’s heart.”— THE RINGER

“Jenny Lewis made a classic record with some of the finest players in rock and roll history because her songs are so special, so magical, so well crafted, that they should all be so lucky to get to play on it.“ —TALKHOUSE (Dave Hause)

After her most recent rapturous performance at Nashville’s hallowed Ryman Auditorium, Jenny will continue to dazzle the masses with her legendary performances as she brings On The Line to life on the road, with critics most recently praising her live show as:

“If the stage can be a pulpit, then Jenny Lewis filled the pews Friday night at the Palace Theatre…There’s nothing wrong with preaching to the choir when the music is this good.” — CITY PAGES

“a masterful story teller… it was the material off of On The Line that was the most captivating and really connected with the audience…Jenny Lewis continues to evolve and shine a light into the recesses of our souls.” — TWIN CITIES MEDIA

She has also confirmed the rescheduled Chicago date for Saturday, June 8th, 2019; tickets purchased for the original date will be honored.

ON THE LINE OUT NOW ON WARNER BROS. RECORDS

Following the rapturous reaction to the release of On The Line, Jenny Lewis is proud to unveil the star-studded video for “Red Bull & Hennessy,” available now for your viewing pleasure: https://JennyLewis.lnk.to/RBHVid

Directed and edited by Eric Notarnicola (Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!Nathan For YouWho Is America?), the video is taken from the wonderfully surrealistic and hilarious “On The Line Online — The Three Hour Listening Party & Fundraiser” that raised over $10,000 for the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center back in February.

“Red Bull & Hennessy” features cameos from Beck, Annie Clark a/k/a St. Vincent, Vanessa Bayer, Jason Schwartzman, Danielle Haim, David Arquette, Mac DeMarco, Nikki Lane and many more special guests—including the great Jerry Cohen. Viewers are given unique glimpses of the madcap fun and behind-the-scenes moments brilliantly captured from a once-in-a-lifetime evening. In case you missed it, you can watch On The Line Online in its entirety HERE.

On The Line was released March 22nd and continues to draw the highest critical praise of Jenny’s career, including:

“(FOUR STARS) As glorious as the sound of this thing is, glinting with letter-perfect ‘70s-rock sonics and touches of 21st-century psychedelic irony, the songs are the show…The magic trick comes together in Lewis’ tone, ever so faintly wry, which lets her look into the camera at the same time she’s playing the part, Jean Seberg in Breathless. No moment epitomizes this more than when she sings the words ‘rock and roll’ on ‘Do-Si-Do,’ wrapped in clouds of gossamer synthetics and reverb. It’s glorious and masterfully plastic, and so genuinely ecstatic the quotation marks around that sullied genre moniker take on their own beauty — the gild on a joyously self-aware hustle that’s all the truer for it.” —ROLLING STONE

“Jenny Lewis’s best work to date…On the Line makes good art out of hard times in the same way that Leonard Cohen once peered out of a hotel window on an unfamiliar world and wearily claimed that ‘the stories of the street are mine.’..a triumph of patient refinement… Jenny Lewis has spent the last 20 years writing a new story, one where her experiences in Hollywood, both good and bad, enrich her art, and she, in turn, enriches us.” —VULTURE

“evokes the Los Angeles of the 1970s and the lush studio production of Laurel Canyon folk-rock and Fleetwood Mac “Rumours”-style commercialism…her blend of literate melancholy and sun-kissed classic rock/folk/pop draws on her California predecessors…Lewis doesn’t want to wallow in the wreckage, she wants to transcend it” CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“quite possibly Lewis’s best album to date…There’s a renewed strength to Lewis’s voice — which reaches untold heights here as it moves from whispered falsetto to potent clarion call…the final result on display in “On the Line” — from the somber waltz of “Do Si Do” to the swell of strings at the climax of “Taffy” — is a new high watermark for a musician who’s never been willing to let a little rain get the best of her.” VARIETY

“arena-sized rock with a pristine polish…Lewis has made her best-sounding record yet.” —CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND (Album of the Week)

“has a big, bold sound and a mature, unapologetic take on desire…[a] terrific album by one of this millennium’s most reliable rock figures” THE ATLANTIC

“She’s still the same beautifully honest singer and songwriter she’s always been, but she’s armed with a killer new look and an album that feels incredibly personal…On The Line shimmers and sparkles even in moments of sadness, desperation, and frustration…Sonically, Lewis is having a blast with On the Line, getting comfy in a bigger, glossier sound that suits her easy, angelic voice so well…sweeps us up into the colorful world Lewis is so masterful at creating in her music, and wherever we’re at in our own lives, we can find some comfort knowing she’s felt those same feels, too.”—NO DEPRESSION

“The fourth album from the California indie rock icon features some of her strongest songwriting, sung gorgeously and told with biting detail” —PITCHFORK

About Africa Express

Hailed as the most revolutionary force in popular music for two decades, Africa Express brings together musicians from different cultures, genres and generations to break boundaries and offer a new perspective on Africa and its music. Each event is unique, based upon on-the-spot collaboration and filled with unique moments of magic.

It was founded in 2006 with a trip to Mali linking the likes of co-founder Damon Albarn, Martha Wainwright and Fatboy Slim with local stars such as Toumani Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyaté and Amadou & Mariam. Then came the first public event: a legendary five-hour show at Glastonbury described by The Times as “an absolute lose-yourself epiphany for everyone who was there”.

Africa Express has since hosted trips to Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, South Africa and Mali. It has also staged lauded shows in Lagos, London and Liverpool, as well as festivals across Europe such as Roskilde in Denmark and bespoke shows before 25,000 people in Paris city centre and 50,000 on a Spanish beach. Each performance is unique, with artists taking part creating the set before the show, and all have been met with rave reviews, inspiring artists and audiences alike.

In 2012, Africa Express filled a vintage train with 100 African and Western artists to play a week of shows across England, Wales and Scotland as part of the London 2012 Olympic Festival. The extraordinary tour, with performances in shops, schools and station platforms as well as more traditional venues, made waves worldwide with the likes of Baaba Maal and Carl Barat touring together. The final five-hour gig at King’s Cross saw Bassekou Kouyaté, Damon Albarn, Fatoumata Diawara, John Paul Jones, Gruff Rhys, Paul McCartney and Rokia Traoré all performing together at one stage.

The following year Africa Express returned to Bamako, Mali following the coup and Islamist takeover in the north to record two critically acclaimed albums (Africa Express Presents… Maison des Jeunes and Africa Express Presents… Terry Riley’s In C Mali) with local artists.  The In C Mali live performance project has subsequently been performed in partnership with Ruhrtriennale, Fondation Louis Vuitton Paris and The Space / Tate Modern.

In 2016 more than 50 Syrian musicians and singers were reunited by Africa Express as The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians for a European tour alongside guests including Damon Albarn, Rachid Taha, Paul Weller and Bassekou Kouyaté. For many of the Syrians, it was the first time they had seen each other since the outbreak of conflict five years earlier. The widely acclaimed tour, and subsequent album, helped highlight and celebrate the remarkable music culture of Syria, providing a more positive perspective than seen in the news.

Last year saw Africa Express head to Johannesburg, South Africa to record an electronic album in a week of discovery, collaboration, music-making and live performances. Details of new releases from this latest exciting project from Africa Express are coming soon.

At long last, the wait is over. The highly anticipated fourth solo album from Jenny Lewisis out today on Warner Bros. Records, available now at your local record store and all digital platforms: https://JennyLewis.lnk.to/OTL

The 11 all-new original songs were written by Lewis and recorded at Capitol Records’ Studio B, and feature a backing band of legendary talent including Beck, Benmont Tench, Don Was, Jim Keltner and Ringo Starr.

Reviews for On The Line are already ablaze with some of the highest critical praise of Jenny’s illustrious career:

“Her best solo album to date…she’s never recorded anything quite like On The Line. Her fourth solo album and first since 2014’s The Voyager sounds humongous: rafter-raising vocals, pianos that seem to ring out endlessly, and, on ‘Red Bull & Hennessy’ and ‘On The Line,’ an earth-shaking double-drum attack courtesy of session warhorse Jim Keltner and Ringo Starr. On The Line is the crispest-sounding entry in Lewis’ catalog, and the most emotionally complex” —AV CLUB

“sublime…might be her greatest work yet” —UPROXX

“Her best album in more than a decade” —WASHINGTON POST

“Her most opulent record to date, swinging from the stately folk of ‘Heads Gonna Roll’ to the cosmic rock of ‘Little White Dove”’ and ‘Red Bull & Hennessy,’ on which she fully channels 1980s Stevie Nicks…yet through her dulcet-voiced vignettes, Lewis carries a reassuring resonance that it’s going to be all right.” —SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE

“A sure-footed, Americana-tinged set led by a narrator who sounds world-weary and wiser for it.” —LOS ANGELES MAGAZINE

“On The Line’s sound is the biggest Lewis has ever created, but her unmistakable voice and knack for good storytelling keep it very much her own.”—BUST

“Jenny Lewis is an absolute legend…On The Line is another solid, gorgeously composed pop-rock Americana album from one of the most dependable songwriters in the game…there’s not a throwaway on the album…Lewis’ voice is a powerhouse…if it takes another five years to create a worthy follow-up then so be it.”—RELIX

“Lewis has always been a meticulous, detailed writer…the combination of her circumstances and the ambitious mix of musical styles behind her lyrics here makes her songs more poignant than ever. And she has plenty of first-class help to realize her vision.” —NEWSDAY

Preceding the album’s release, Jenny—backed by her live band featuring Jason Boesel, Jason Crosby, Dylan Day, Solomon Dorsey and Emily Elbert—made her triumphant return to Jimmy Kimmel Live! with stunning performances. In case you missed it, tune in here: https://JennyLewis.lnk.to/JKL
