EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY PRESENT SECOND VIDEO

“Be Comfortable, Creature” Interpreted As Romantic Fable By Director Paul Logan

Up Now at ExplosionsintheSky.com

December Australia/New Zealand Tour Dates Confirmed

Explosions In The Sky has followed up its “space-tripping wonder” (WIRED) of a debut video “Last Known Surroundings” with its second ever clip, “Be Comfortable, Creature.”

Directed by longtime EITS creative associate Paul Logan, “Be Comfortable, Creature” employs the emotional currents of the track from current album Take Care, Take Care, Take Care as backdrop to an utterly unique and supremely touching romantic fable built on bittersweet longing, alienation and physical transformation.

Director Logan explained that the genesis of the video’s concept came about as Explosions’ Munaf Rayani first played him the album: “Their music has always been evocative and there’s nothing better for me than to put on an Explosions record and daydream. I’ve written entire scripts inspired by one moment in an Explosions song. as i sat down and the record began my mind immediately raced away. Each song took me to another world and stirred up a number of ideas and feelings. Then track four came on (at the time there were no song titles), and I immediately saw this creature lost on Earth. As the song unfolded so did the story. I just watched it. It made me remember the fears of growing up, of feeling like an outcast in a small town, of being lonely, of wanting to be a kid again, and of being in love. A couple of months later a few friends and myself went out and over a month we filmed it. It’s homemade, personal, and like Explosions In The Sky, heartfelt.”

“Be Comfortable, Creature” stars Neil Maris and features Magali Pijpers, Esteban Rey and Penelope + Sylvia. It was created with help from Rey, Pijpers, Sarah Meraz, Martha O’harra, Mr. Manners, Tyler Frazier and David Hobizal.

Currently in the midst of a North American tour that concludes October 16 with the penultimate slot at this year’s Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco, Explosions In The Sky have just confirmed a December run of dates on Australia and New Zealand. The Australian dates go on sale September 14, New Zealand September 15.

PAUL McCARTNEY “THE LOVE WE MAKE” SEPTEMBER 8th THEATRICAL SCREENINGS

American Express Presents A Preview Screening Of  Highly-Anticipated Feature Length Documentary Chronicling McCartney’s Cathartic Post-9/11 New York City Odyssey

Broadcast Debut on SHOWTIME September 10

As the tenth anniversary of 9/11 approaches, the highly-anticipated feature length documentary THE LOVE WE MAKE, which chronicles Paul McCartney’s poignant and cathartic journey through the streets of New York in the aftermath of the World Trade Center’s destruction, will be previewed at select theatres across the country.

American Express — in partnership with AEG LIVE and Regal Entertainment Group — presents a very special one-day-only cinematic release of the film on September 8th at select theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Atlanta, and Washington DC. All proceeds from the screenings will benefit MyGoodDeed – the respected nonprofit organization which leads the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, for which American Express is the lead contributor.

The 7 p.m. September 8 screenings will provide the first opportunity for the public to view this incredible and intimate cinematic document, prior to its broadcast premiere September 10 on SHOWTIME.

Directed by iconic documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles (Gimme Shelter, Salesman, Grey Gardens) and award-winning filmmaking partner Bradley Kaplan (Muhammad and Larry, Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!, Sand and Sorrow), THE LOVE WE MAKE documents McCartney’s role in the planning and performance of the monumental benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, “The Concert for New York City,” which took place less than six weeks after the terrorist attacks.  Shot in the signature cinéma vérité style that Maysles pioneered and made famous when he filmed the Beatles’ first visit to America in the legendary 1964 documentary What’s Happening! The Beatles in the U.S.A., THE LOVE WE MAKE was filmed in 16mm black & white, Maysles’ camera intimately capturing McCartney’s personal mission to help heal the city that welcomed him with open arms so many years ago.

McCartney was in New York on the day of the attacks, and saw first-hand the destruction and tragic consequences of one of the most horrific days in U.S. history.  Directors Maysles and Kaplan, along with Editor Ian Markiewicz (The Beales of Grey Gardens) assembled extraordinary, intimate, never-before-seen footage of McCartney rehearsing for the benefit concert, connecting with New Yorkers on the city streets, and storytelling behind-the-scenes at interviews with Dan Rather, Howard Stern and others.  Additionally, the film features performances from the benefit concert itself and unparalleled access backstage with McCartney and luminaries from the worlds of music, Hollywood and politics, including David Bowie, Steve Buscemi, Eric Clapton, President Bill Clinton, Sheryl Crow, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Mick Jagger, Jay Z, Billy Joel, Elton John, Stella McCartney, Governor George Pataki, Keith Richards, James Taylor, Pete Townsend, and many more.

THE LOVE WE MAKE is a Maysles Films, Inc. Production.  A Film by Albert Maysles, Bradley Kaplan, and Ian Markiewicz.  Directed by Bradley Kaplan and Albert Maysles.  Edited by Ian Markiewicz.  Cinematography by Albert Maysles.  Produced by Bradley Kaplan.  Proceeds to benefit MyGoodDeed, the nonprofit leading the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (911day.org).

Jack White Produces Insane Clown Posse (and Mozart)

http://thirdmanrecords.com/

In the grand tradition of peanut butter meeting Iggy’s chest or Bing Crosby getting down with David Bowie, Third Man Records is ecstatic to present the latest in a long-line of unexpected musical pairings…Insane Clown Posse and Mozart.

Back in ’82, ahem, 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote a piece that’s been left out of the spotlight ever since. The title of the piece is “Leck Mich Im Arsch” or literally translated to English as “Lick me in the arse.” Understandably this piece has figuratively been swept under the rug. So who better to give this piece it’s due respect than the wildly successful, much misunderstood, and divisive Southwest Detroit rappers Insane Clown Posse?

With fellow Southwest Detroit-born Jack White at the production helm and musical backing by Nashville’s very own Jeff the Brotherhood, this 2011 version of “Leck Mich Im Arsch” marries Mozart’s melody (and lyrics sung in operatic German) with ICP’s poignant lyrical addition in English and Jeff the B’s monster-riffs, letting the whole thing tie together in the most beautiful of ways.

The b-side “Mountain Girl” finds Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope telling tall tales about a shotgun wedding, meth problems and moonshine…all pretty common-fare for a twangy country song birthed in Nashville.

The 7″ single and iTunes digital download of “Leck Mich Im Arsch” will be available for sale on September 13th. One-hundred Tri-color versions of the single will be available from the Third Man Rolling Record Store at the MI Fest in Brooklyn, Michigan on September 17th and another 50 Tri-colors will be randomly inserted into mail orders dispatched by Third Man Records.

Paul McCartney Announces Ocean’s Kingdom

His first orchestral score for dance to be released October 4th 2011

Marking his first foray into the world of dance, Paul McCartney has announced the general release of Ocean’s Kingdom, commissioned by the New York City Ballet. The recording will be released by Hear Music/Telarc and is conducted by John Wilson, produced by John Fraser and performed by The London Classical Orchestra.

Ocean’s Kingdom is the first time Paul has written an original orchestral score or any kind of music for dance and is the result of a collaboration between Paul and New York City Ballet’s Master in Chief Peter Martins, who have worked together to present the world premiere of a new ballet for the company’s 2011/2012 season this September.

Though the work is Paul’s first ballet, he approached the project in the same way he writes all other music, driven by his heart rather than his head and inspired by feeling rather than specific technical knowledge. While this may have been another new turn for his staggeringly varied career to take, Paul knew it had to be influenced by his own personal experience and that he needed to create a story the audience would find equally compelling and moving.

Paul’s first step was to visit the Royal Opera House to see Adolphe Adam’s Giselle, danced by the Royal Ballet. Afterwards, Paul met the dancers and discussed the work with them, realising as he did so that he was still without a central theme to his work. Keen to tell a story through his music, Paul decided to focus on the purity of the ocean and within just two months, the first draft had been completed. He then went through the music again thinking specifically of the ballet itself, thereby creating a world featuring distinctive characters and a vibrant underworld kingdom.  Finally Paul spent many more weeks working alongside Peter Martins to refine the work, before Peter created the choreography with the NYCB dancers.

An hour long score featuring four stunning movements – “Ocean’s Kingdom,” “Hall of Dance,” “Imprisonment” and “Moonrise” – the ballet tells of a love story within the story of an underwater world whose people are threatened by the humans of Earth. A potently expressive and richly varied work, the score is Paul’s most challenging and emotionally complex yet. As he explains: “What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song.  Trying to write something that expressed an emotion – so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging.”

The premiere of the ballet Ocean’s Kingdom will take place at NYCB’s Fall Gala on Thursday 22nd September 2011 while the release of the orchestral score will follow on October 4th, available digitally, on CD and on vinyl.  It was recorded in June in London.

The artwork that accompanies the release is equally striking and inventive. Though it seems to suggest a city skyline, it is actually a digital readout of the notes from the ballet score.

Although this is his first orchestral score for dance, Paul is already quite at home in the world of classical music.  His back catalogue already carries four classical albums, the most recent of which was the Classical BRIT Award winning ‘Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart)’; a work for chorus and orchestra in four movements that was released in 2006.

Solo Acoustic U.S. Dates Kick Off Week of Release

Ryan Adams will release his new album Ashes & Fire October 11 on PAX-AM/Capitol in the U.S.. Adams’ first solo album to be released via a new U.S. arrangement with his own PAX-AM label and EMI’s Capitol in the U.S. and Canada, the album was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood and produced by Glyn Johns, renowned for his work with the likes of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Clash, The Who and The Rolling Stones–and whose son Ethan produced previous Ryan Adams albums Heartbreaker, Gold and 29.

Ashes & Fire also features guest turns from Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench as well as Norah Jones who contributes piano and backing vocals on several tracks, including the lilting, acoustic overtures of “Come Home,” the sumptuous ballad “Save Me” and the heartfelt “Kindness.”
