Creator, writer and executive producer Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), along with writer/executive producer Nick Weidenfeld and his Friends Night banner and executive producer Hend Baghdady present Neo Yokio: A groundbreaking new animated series starring the voice talents of Jaden SmithSusan SarandonJude LawTavi GevinsonJason Schwartzman, and Desus & Mero, along with Richard AyoadeIke BarinholtzSteve BuscemiAlexa ChungStephen FryKaty MixonAnnet MahendruKiernan ShipkaWillow SmithAmanda StenbergDave Macklovitch (of Chromeo) and Nico Muhly.

A collaboration with Japanese anime studios Production IG and Studio Deen, along with MOI, the Seoul-based animation studio, Neo Yokio is a postmodern collage of homages to classic anime, English literature and modern New York fashion and culture. Storyboard artists for the series include Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Mobile Suit Gundam UnicornHunter x HunterRurouni Kenshin) and Junji Nishimura (Ranma 1/2Urusei YatsuraPro Golfer Saru).

The Series features music from Bach, Vivaldi and Beethoven as well as original music from Dev Hynes (of Blood Orange) and Baths.

Neo Yokio is a near-future serial set in the greatest city in the world. It’s the most populous urban agglomeration in North America, but its prestige does not merely stem from its size. Neo Yokio is a diverse labyrinth of cultural and architectural innovation at the forefront of global fashion and finance.

This is all cold comfort to the lovesick Kaz Kaan (Jaden Smith), the youngest member of a family of “magistocrats” – pink-haired demon slayers who once liberated the city. Today, his demon-slaying is barely more than a side-hustle coordinated by his Aunt Agatha (Susan Sarandon) – Kaz himself would rather concern himself with shopping, field hockey and – of course – mending his broken heart.

Neo Yokio’s supporting cast includes Kaz’s faithful mecha-butler, Charles (Jude Law), and his inseparable friends Lexy and Gottlieb (The Kid Mero and Desus Nice). Together they navigate the complexities of life in Neo Yokio and try to stay one step ahead of Kaz’s arch-rival, Neo Yokio’s number one most eligible bachelor, Arcangelo Corelli (Jason Schwartzman.)

Things take a mysterious turn when Kaz is drawn into the turbulent world of ex-fashion blogger Helena St. Tessero (Tavi Gevinson), setting in motion a sequence of events that force him to question everything he knows about Neo Yokio.

All six episodes of Neo Yokio will launch globally on Friday, September 22 exclusively on Netflix.

BECK: “UP ALL NIGHT” NEWEST TRACK & EPIC VIDEO FROM COLORS

BECK

“Up All Night”

NEWEST TRACK & EPIC VIDEO FROM COLORS

FOLLOW UP TO GRAMMY ALBUM OF THE YEAR MORNING PHASE OUT OCTOBER 13

Pre-Order Live Now

Beck has issued an anthemic call to arms–and legs–with “Up All Night,” the irresistible new single and epic video one-two salvo in advance of his imminent 13th album and “euphoric blast of experimental pop” (ROLLING STONE), Colors – due out October 13 on Capitol Records.

In keeping with the life-affirming spirit and groove of the song itself, the sweeping cinematic arc created by Director Canada, Executive Producer Oscar Romagosa and Producer Laura Serra Estorch features a narrative of triumph over hallucinogenic adversity. “Up All Night” tracks its fearless heroine (Solene Rigot) through an increasingly bizarre series of trials as she races against the sun-and at times the very rules of reality-to rescue a fallen friend (Pedro Attenborough).

Having appeared in an earlier incarnation on the EA SPORTS FIFA 17 soundtrack, the buoyant “Up All Night” is the newest advance taste of the most aptly titled work in Beck’s storied discography. Beck’s first full length offering of new material since 2014’s Morning Phase took Album of the Year top honors at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Colors unfolds in an intoxicating rainbow of auditory tricks and treats, making it a shoo-in for the summeriest smash of the fall season. Prior to “Up All Night,” the album’s most recent single was the captivating piano-driven “Dear Life,” released August 24 and eliciting Beatles and Beach Boys comparisons from THE NEW YORK TIMES amongst a slew of generation spanning critical raves including:
“‘Dear Life’ makes good on Beck’s promise, with waltzing pianos, a killer guitar riff, and am immediately memorable chorus.”–ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“Leave it to Beck to craft a sunny, upbeat pop song that doubles as a scream into the void… the kaleidoscopic new single from his forthcoming album, Colors, has something for partiers and wallflowers alike… when Beck asks on the buoyant chorus about the thrill being gone, the answer is: not yet-not in his career, not in this life-affirming song.”–PITCHFORK

“Fans of Beck will have even more to love in the perennial hitmaker’s latest… a dark pop-rock sound that hints at influences from everyone from The Beatles to Spoon.”–TIME 5 Songs You Need To Listen To This Week

The complete track listing for Colors is:

Colors
7th Heaven
I’m So Free
Dear Life
No Distraction
Dreams
Wow
Up All Night
Square One
Fix Me

Colors was produced by Greg Kurstin and Beck, with the exception of “Wow” produced by Beck and Cole M.G.N., and “Fix Me” produced by Beck. The album was mixed by Serban Ghenea, except “Dreams” and “Up All Night,” which were mixed by Greg Kurstin and Beck.

Beck recently accepted U2’s invitation to appear as special guest on the current leg of The Joshua Tree Tour 2017, on which he is supporting the band on stadium dates that began September 3 at Ford Field in Detroit and continue through September 22 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. FIRST SINGLE: “YOU’RE THE BEST THING ABOUT ME,” AVAILABLE NOW

U2 to Perform “You’re The Best Thing About Me” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Tomorrow Evening

“A Gleaming, Joyous earworm” — Rolling Stone

September 6, 2017

“You’re The Best Thing About Me,” the first single from U2’s highly anticipated 14th studio album, Songs of Experience, is released today.

Accompanied by exclusive art, the new single features a sleeve image of The Edge’s daughter Sian Evans, photographed by Anton Corbijn.

To see the band’s first-ever performance of “You’re The Best Thing About Me,” tune in tomorrow evening to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Songs Of Experience is the companion release to 2014’s Songs Of Innocence, the two titles drawing inspiration from a collection of poems, ‘Songs of Innocence and Experience’,  by the 18th century English mystic and poet William Blake.  While Songs of Innocence charted the band’s earliest influences and experiences in the late 1970s and early 80s, the new album is a collection of songs in the form of intimate letters to places and people close to the Bono’s heart; family, friends, fans, himself.

“In a time of tumult and daily, almost hourly angst, U2 have done the truly unexpected. The band known for powerful message songs released a throwback, classic love song called ‘You’re the Best Thing About Me.'” — Billboard

In an excerpt from an interview with Jon Pareles of The New York Times, “You’re putting out a song about your girlfriend when the world is on fire?,” Bono asked, anticipating one reaction. “Yes. Joy is an act of defiance.”

“U2 refuses to rush its albums, ” says Jon Pareles of the New York Times. “Ever more aware of its singular status as a rock band that has started its fifth decade with its original lineup — and is still selling out arenas and stadiums — the group constantly weighs both its past and its determination to move ahead. Its ambitions are high-minded and grandly scaled; its attitude remains earnest, patient and craftsmanlike.”

For a closer behind-the-scenes look on the making of Songs of Experience, read Pareles’ feature on the band’s upcoming album here.

The release of “You’re The Best Thing About Me” follows last week’s surprise gift to fans of “The Blackout” performance video, another track from the upcoming album that New York Magazine has declared “electrifying.”

Songs of Experience will be available on CD, vinyl and digital download, with the release date and pre-order details to be announced soon.

BOB MOULD: CAL JAM 17 & HEADLINE DATES THROUGH OCTOBER

BOB MOULD

CAL JAM 17 & HEADLINE DATES THROUGH OCTOBER

33 1/3: WORKBOOK TO BE PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 7 BY BLOOMSBURY

The ever tireless Bob Mould has added a handful of Pacific Northwest headline dates and an appearance at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival to his October touring calendar.

That same weekend will see Bob and band heading to Golden Gate Park for an October 8 set at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2017. Bob will round out October with a trio of solo shows in the Pacific Northwest: October 20 at Doug Fir in Portland, October 21 at The Crocodile in Seattle, and October 22 at the Rickshaw Theater in Vancouver, BC.

The newly announced October dates are the last scheduled appearances on a marathon run touched off with the March 2016 release of Patch The Sky on Merge Records. Hailed upon its release as “conjuring the ecstatic rage of his earlier bands for a grim new era” in a four-star ROLLING STONE review and as “tight, sharp musings on aging, fizzled relationships and death that are melodic enough to sound like songs of victory” by THE NEW YORK TIMES, Patch The Sky completed a trilogy including its 2014 predecessor Beauty & Ruin and 2012’s Silver Age. Bob and the band commemorated Patch The Sky’s release with an April 25 debut performance on Late Show with Stephen Colbert, offering up not only a fiery rendition of “The End Of Things” but also a gratis session of backstage guitar lessons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH6-hz4WuG8

A month to the day before Cal Jam kicks off the October dates, Bob’s classic 1989 solo debut Workbook will be the subject of the latest in the prestigious 33 1/13 book series. Written by Walter Biggins and Daniel Couch, 33 1/3: Workbook will be published September 7 by Bloomsbury and will see Workbook added to the storied 33 1/13 bibliography alongside the likes of The Smiths’ Meat Is Murder, The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Electric Ladyland, The Beatles’ Let It Be, The Velvet Underground & Nico, Radiohead’s OK Computer, Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures and The Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main Street to name but a few. For further information, go to https://333sound.com/2017/07/27/introducing-our-33-13-on-bob-moulds-workbook/

Finally, Bob has signed on to produce the new album for Fury Things, the Minneapolis rock trio who supported Bob’s live shows in 2014 and 2016. Sessions have been slated at Tiny Telephone in Oakland and Different Fur in San Francisco in October, marking the first time Bob has served a producer for a fellow artist since his work with Vic Chesnutt and Verbow more than 20 years ago.

10/7/17 – San Bernardino, CA – Cal Jam 17
10/8/17 – San Francisco, CA – Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2017
10/20/17 – Portland, OR – Doug Fir Lounge
10/21/17 – Seattle, WA – The Crocodile
10/22/17 – Vancouver, BC, Canada – Rickshaw Theatre

BECK: NEW ALBUM COLORS OUT OCTOBER 13

BECK

COLORS

FOLLOW UP TO GRAMMY ALBUM OF THE YEAR MORNING PHASE OUT OCTOBER 13

Pre-Order Live Now Including New Instant Grat Track “Dear Life”

Hailed in advance by ROLLING STONE as a “euphoric blast of experimental pop,” Beck’s 13th album Colors has been confirmed for an October 13 release on Capitol Records. Possibly the most aptly titled work in Beck’s storied discography, Colors unfolds in an intoxicating rainbow of auditory tricks and treats, making it a shoo-in for the summeriest smash of the fall season. The newest advance taste of the album is the captivating piano-driven “Dear Life,” available instantly with pre-orders placed at http://beck.to/colors and subject of a lyric video directed by Jimmy Turrell, Laura Gorun and Brook Linder and featuring animation by Drew Tyndell and Rhiannon Tyndell live now at http://beck.to/dearlifelyric.

Colors is Beck’s first full length offering of new material since 2014’s Morning Phase took Album of the Year top honors at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, as well as Best Rock Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical) category. In addition to the newly unveiled “Dear Life,” Colors includes both Beck singles that preceded it: a new mix of the psych-dance summer jam “Dreams” that NPR hailed as “urgently contemporary and irresistibly vintage” as it gave Beck his second #1 single at AAA radio (the first being Morning Phase’s “Blue Moon”), and the retro-futuristic earworm and USA TODAY Song of the Week “Wow” that had STEREOGUM praising its “big, sweet incandescent hook” and plainly stating “It’s a great song!” while ESQUIRE rejoiced “All hail the return of Party Beck.”

Colors is also available for pre-order at Beck.com in a limited edition deluxe vinyl format featuring two 180g 45rpm red vinyl LPs in a special die-cut gatefold package, with a customizable color transparency cover and 24-page booklet. Digitally, Colors can be pre-ordered through Apple Music, pre-saved via Spotify, and more. The complete track listing for the album is:

Colors
7th Heaven
I’m So Free
Dear Life
No Distraction
Dreams

Beck is currently in the midst of a headlining run, as always generating yet more of the most enthusiastic notices of his live career, including:

“An electrifying Beck worth the wait at first Milwaukee concert in 20 years… at his sold-out show at the Riverside Theater Wednesday, he proved that in his case, time is irrelevant… His strongest songs are imaginatively created, impeccably executed, incredibly catchy and as alive as music can be… Beck also proved he’s still an innovative craftsman with two newer songs. ‘Dreams’ was awash in fuzzed-out synthesizers, celestial backing vocals and gentle acoustic guitar strums… And ‘Wow’ live was a wonderfully weird, and captivating, blend of hip-hop beats and dreamy pop melodies… Yet another song only Beck could pull off.”—MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL

“You wouldn’t have known nine years had passed between Beck’s last Twin Cities concert and his rascally show Thursday night at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul. At 47, the Californian hippie hip-hop rock hipster — who’s already due back Sept. 8 opening for U2 at U.S. Bank Stadium — looked as spry, slender and elfin as he did back in 2008… he and his seven-piece band walloped the audience with an almost nonstop string of funky, rowdy fan favorites…  the harmonies soared… spirited and irresistible.”—MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE

“Beck has a style and a sound that could suit any era and fit any occasion… He playfully eludes easy categorization, and remains one of the most distinctive songwriters of the modern era… On Thursday night at a sold-out Palace Theatre, all of Beck’s many creative sides were on full display, as he and his cracking seven-piece backing band delivered a lively 95-minute set that mixed his big radio hits in with tender, unguarded moments… he seemed rejuvenated, enjoying himself as much as he did during his alt-outsider early days. Beck can bring the party with the best of them, while also soothing your broken heart if you need it. He did plenty of both on his grand return to Minnesota.”—CITY PAGES

Following an August 27 headline engagement at MusicFest NW in Portland OR, Beck will join U2 as special guest on The Joshua Tree Tour 2017. Beck will support U2 on a series of stadium dates beginning September 3 at Ford Field in Detroit and winding up September 22 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. See below for a full list of upcoming Beck shows and continue to check Beck.com for updates and further information.

Following the overwhelmingly massive reception to the MTV Video Music Award-nominated, Mainstream Rock #1 track “Run,” Foo Fighters have delivered a second consecutive contender for rock anthem of 2017 in the form of “The Sky Is A Neighborhood.” Described by Grohl as “the biggest thing sonically that we’ve ever done,” “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” is also the piece de resistance that effectively completed Foo Fighters’ forthcoming ninth album, Concrete and Gold.

“One night I was lying out looking up at stars,” Grohl recalls. “Just imagining all of these stars as places that have life on them as well, and I decided that the sky is a neighborhood, that we need to keep our shit together in order to survive in this universe full of life. But I had no music yet. I just had the title. So everyday I would walk around, kind of humming this thing in my head.”

The melody of the song came to Grohl without even touching a guitar,so  it follows that “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” would come just as naturally to the band: the song was recorded in a single afternoon by Grohl and fellow Foo Fighters Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear and Rami Jaffee. “And once we were finished,” Grohl says. “I thought ‘OK now we have an album. This is it and we’re done’…  as we were mixing, I realized that we’d actually done what we set out do: to make this gigantic Foo Fighters record but with Greg Kurstin’s sense of jazz and melody and arrangement, something that we’d never done before.”

Of course “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” deserved an equally ambitious visual representation, and together with director of photography Brandon Trost and with production by Therapy Studios, director Grohl, Foo Fighters—and family—have more than delivered: “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” is a kaleidoscopic sci-fi mini-epic as massive as the slow burning rock anthem that gave it life. Hypnotic swirls of color of extraterrestrial origin, glowing eyes, levitating children and more combine to create an otherworldly cinematic palette equal parts beautiful and creepy—the result being arguably the most striking video in the Foo Fighters’ multiple award-winning canon.

Simultaneously, Foo Fighters are launching a constellation viewer, enabling every FF fan to transform to their phone into a tool for exploring the sky in their neighborhood: Go to https://sky.foofighters.com/ from your phone to configure a realistic constellation map in the viewer’s 3D sphere, then let it identify the constellations in your night sky—all while tiny Foo Fighters soundtrack your explorations at the bottom of the screen.

“The Sky Is A Neighborhood” is the second song to be unveiled from Concrete and Gold, following the June 1 surprise release of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart-topping, MTV Video Music Award-nominated “Run.” With more than 2 million YouTube views in its first 24 hours, “Run” smashed into the top 5 of the iTunes video chart and the top of the 15 iTunes singles chart—quickly amassing the highest first-day numbers of any single in the Foo Fighters’ career. Both songs were performed during Foo Fighters’ epic 3.5 hour 32-song marathon Lollapalooza aftershow August 4 at Chicago’s Metro club, and are sure to be live staples of the coming Foo Fighters U.S. tour. That tour kicks off October 7 with the band’s Cal Jam 17 festival at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, CA: a non-stop 100% live 12-hour rock n roll extravaganza featuring Queens Of The Stone Age, Cage The Elephant, Liam Gallagher, The Kills, Royal Blood, Japandroids, Wolf Alice, Bob Mould, The Struts, Bully, Circa Waves, Babes in Toyland, Adia Victoria, Fireball Ministry, The Obsessed, Pinky Pinky, Starcrawler, White Reaper… as well as camping, carnival rides, a water park, attractions, a mobile recording studio & so much more. On Fridaynight, October 6, campers will also experience the world’s best Go-Go band Big Tony & Trouble Funk, an outdoor movie theater and many other surprises.

AMERICAN DREAM OUT SEPTEMBER 1 ON COLUMBIA RECORDS/DFA

LCD Soundsystem has released a third track from its eagerly anticipated fourth album AMERICAN DREAM: Having premiered today via Apple Music as Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1, “tonite” has been a staple of the LCD live set since its debut performance in April—which moved STEREOGUM to laud it as “an instant classic LCD song. A hardened disco synth line and unrelenting beat push the whole thing forward, making it one of those LCD semi-epics.”

“tonite” will be included with pre-orders placed at http://smarturl.it/americandream along with “call the police” and “american dream,” which were released May 5.

“tonite” has also become the first proper video from American Dream. Directed by Joel Kefali and shot in Melbourne, Australia, the clip can be viewed at  http://smarturl.it/tonitevideo.

AMERICAN DREAM will be released September 1 digitally and on vinyl and CD via Columbia Records/DFA, with a special cassette edition available exclusively through DFA. The album will consist of the following songs:oh baby

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

“THE WAY YOU USED TO DO” VIDEO

ALL HELLZAPOPPIN’ BREAKS LOOSE IN SATANIC DANCE PRODUCTION

WRITTEN BY JOSHUA HOMME & DIRECTED BY JONAS AKERLUND

PREVIEW NOW: http://mat-r.co/QOTSA_Preview

FULL VIDEO AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY AT http://mat-r.co/QOTSA_Video

“Dancing and headbanging are truly individualistic expressions of losing oneself fully in appreciation of music—who better to combine these things into a singular vision than someone who’s directed Madonna and Lady Gaga videos–and also happens to have been a member of Bathory?”—Joshua Homme

“The Way You Used To Do,” the recently released first single from Queens Of The Stone Age’s ominously approaching seventh album Villains, has been realized as a fever dream Satanic dance ritual extravaganza—featuring QOTSA founder and frontman Joshua Homme lighter on his feet and darker in his soul than ever before.

Conceived by Joshua Homme, directed by Jonas Akerlund and produced by Serial Pictures, “The Way You Used To Do,” somehow fit its multiple sets, wardrobe changes and intricate dance routines into one day of shooting August 8th in Los Angeles. Considering potential reactions to the sinister shuffle of “The Way We Used To Do” being translated into a panoramic soul-selling dance trip, Homme says “It’s our way of paying tribute to Cab Calloway and the film Hellzapoppin’. I fully realize that may be a little more than some are open to, and that’s perfectly fine with me. There’s the door. If some of the more close-minded are gently pruned, that just leaves more room on the dance floor for the open-minded ones to get loose. That’s been the spirit of Queens Of The Stone Age and the space we’ve worked to create from day one.”

With recently released second track “The Evil Has Landed” hailed by Rolling Stone as “a sprawling and diabolical new rocker” featuring “Homme singing in a falsetto that sounds both sweet and sinister,” Villains was co-produced by Mark Ronson and will be released August 25th on Matador Records. The album is available now for pre-order at http://smarturl.it/Villains.

The colossal Villains tour begins September 6th with a sold out show in Port Chester NY and will see the Queens playing directly before Foo Fighters and alongside Cage The Elephant, The Kills, Liam Gallagher, Japandroids and more at the massive Cal Jam 17 October 7th at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernadino, CA. Tickets for the headline dates—which feature support from Royal Blood–are available at http://smarturl.it/QOTSALive.

Queens Of The Stone Age is Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and Jon Theodore.
