New World Towers is the new documentary film on Blur, spanning the last few years of the band’s life. Directed by Sam Wrench, it records the genesis of the latest album The Magic Whip, from impromptu sessions on an unexpected stay in Hong Kong, to playing rousing live performances at Hyde Park and Hong Kong.

Blur have now announced all the UK cinemas for the very special “one night only” screening on December 2nd, at cities including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Edinburgh, at selected Picturehouse, Curzon, Odeon, Vue and Cineworld venues. New World Towers has also been playing at selected international film festivals worldwide, including New York, Copenhagen, and Porto. An international release is also planned, with more dates to follow shortly.

Cutting between incredible scenes of Blur’s impassioned live performances this year and intimate, candid footage of the band in the studio and behind the scenes, New World Towers provides an invaluable account of one of Britain’s most iconic bands today. You can watch a clip from the movie now, providing a glimpse into the inimitable dynamic between the quartet of Damon AlbarnGraham CoxonAlex James and Dave Rowntree.

About Blur

Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed – with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in 1997 and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon. One of the most successful British bands of the last two decades, Blur have won a total of five BRIT Awards, and were twice nominated for the Mercury Music Award.

About the Director

Sam Wrench is a London-based documentary, music and commercials director who forged a relationship with Blur through his fresh approach and passion for the band. His most recent feature documentary with Mary J Blige, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. With New World Towers, he captured the most intimate interviews working alone with the band members in the relaxed atmosphere of their respective homes, which contrasts beautifully with the extravagant multi-camera coverage of their Hyde Park show and the atmospheric approach to the Hong Kong concert.

BLUR: NEW WORLD TOWERS

FROM HONG KONG TO HYDE PARK AND BACK

A vital hybrid performance film about Blur

Relaying a rousing story of unfinished business, creative spontaneity and enduring friendship and set against the backdrop of two brilliant live performances, New World Towers, a new documentary film onBlur, will be released December 2nd at selected Picturehouse, Odeon, Cineworld and Vue cinemas at cities around the UK including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Edinburgh. An international release is also planned, with more dates to follow shortly.

The film charts the iconic British band’s sprawling journey over the last few years – from an unexpected break in Hong Kong which sowed the seeds for their first album as a four piece in 16 years, to a glorious home coming show in London and, finally, an emotional reunion with their Hong Kong audience.

New World Towers cuts between scenes from the band’s impassioned performance at this summer’s Hyde Park show in front of 60,000 fans and the stirring concert in Hong Kong, but also offers a raw, candid glimpse into the interior life of the band as well, with personal documentary footage and band interviews showing just how an opportune recording session unexpectedly gave birth to a new album, while also raising questions about the future of BlurNew World Towers reveals fascinating insights into the group dynamic and especially the relationship between singer Damon Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon. Ultimately, their enduring friendship prevailed – allowing Coxon to bring the album to completion nearly 18 months later.

Featuring stunning live material with previously uncaptured songs alongside intimate moments following the band in the studio, New World Towers isn’t just a chance to witness a band at the very height of their powers, but also a rare opportunity to see the members at their most candid, as they reflect on their success and speculate about their future.

Blur also wrap up a triumphant 2015 with a pair of massive North American shows this month, playing the legendary Hollywood Bowl on October 20th and Madison Square Garden on October 23rd.

BOOTS PREMIERES NEW VIDEO FOR “BOMBS AWAY”

BOOTS PREMIERES NEW VIDEO FOR “BOMBS AWAY”

DEBUT ALBUM AQUΛRIA OUT NOVEMBER 13 ON COLUMBIA

ON TOUR WITH RUN THE JEWELS THIS FALL

AQUΛRIA Album Art LO RES
AQUΛRIA Album Art

“…a chugging baseline, ominous percussions, and Asher, laying down smooth rap lyrics between a desperate and rawly sung chorus.” – ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“…beautifully creepy, like an amalgamation of an R&B-influenced Aphex Twin and The King of Limbs-era Radiohead.” – PIGEONS AND PLANES

“With its dark tones and industrial sounds, ‘Bombs Away’ has BOOTS gearing up for an imminent war as the drums march in beat and the guitar’s distortion light up the night sky giving the feel of nu-age destruction.” – 2DOPEBOYZ

After offering up “Bombs Away” from his highly anticipated debut album, AQUΛRIA, BOOTS is now premiering the official music video for the track. The “Bombs Away” video syncs up perfectly with the song’s murky and foreboding aesthetic as it portrays BOOTS navigating a seedy underworld reminiscent of 1980s neo-noir films. As was the case in his debut short film, Motorcycle Jesus, BOOTS both stars in his newest visual creation and assumes the directorial helm. Watch here.

AQUΛRIA is currently available for preorder via iTunes. All preorders receive instant downloads of all previously released tracks including “AQUΛRIA”, “I Run Roulette”, “Only” and “Bombs Away”.

After his performance during Washington, DC’s Landmark Festival in September, Consequence of Sound called BOOTS’ “face-melting” set one of the best of the weekend. Catch BOOTS on tour in North America this fall as he supports Run the Jewels and when he plays Austin City Limits’ Austin Ventures Stage at 7:30pm this Saturday.

NEW 2015 REMIX AND VIDEO OF PAUL McCARTNEY & MICHAEL JACKSON’S 1983 INTERNATIONAL SMASH HIT SINGLE “Say Say Say” AVAILABLE NOW EXCLUSIVELY ON FACEBOOK

New video launched today, Tuesday October 6th, exclusively on Paul McCartney’s Facebook page celebrates special revamped track featuring previously unheard vocals by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson

Voices of Paul and Michael swap positions in remix by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent

New dance video created by Sia and Lady Gaga collaborator Ryan Heffington to accompany “Say Say Say” 2015 remix

Taken from the re-issue of Paul McCartney’s Pipes of Peace album, out now

“Say Say Say” is without doubt one of the all-time greatest musical collaborations in popular music. It is one of three tracks on which Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson worked together and was their biggest commercial success, topping the US Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks upon release in 1983 and going on to become one of the highest selling singles of all time.

The groundbreaking partnership of two of the biggest stars in the music world began with a phone call which Paul received out of the blue after Michael got hold of his personal number and called, suggesting they should collaborate.

Paul remembers: “He (Michael) rang me up, and I didn’t believe it was him, so I said “who’s this?” He said ‘Michael’. ‘Are you sure… Michael who?!’. Anyway, we had a joke about that kind of thing, and he said, ‘yeah, I’d like to come over and write with you’, so I said great. So he came over to England and we just sat down. I thought, well, it’s not easy to just sit down with anyone you don’t know and just write, start songwriting because you’ve got to get the chemistry right. But I thought, it is Michael – you know, I’ll just try! If it doesn’t work, we’ll just throw it away …”

Clearly, the magic worked between them and “Say Say Say” resonated around the world. Indeed, such was the excitement about the duo that even the TV premiere of the video – in which they play a pair of travelling con merchants in the Wild West – was an appointment-to-view event in many countries. And now, 32 years after the original release, fans will have a fresh rush of excitement with a completely new mix of the track, prominently featuring alternative vocals from Paul and the late Michael which have never before seen the light of day.

This version came about as Paul worked on the next stage of his extensive reissue collection – the Grammy Award-winning Paul McCartney Archive Series – earlier this year. While working on the remasters for 1983’s Pipes Of Peace album and accompanying bonus material at Abbey Road Studios in January 2015, Paul was listening to an instrumental remix of “Say Say Say” by DJ John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez when he recalled there were unused vocals.

The original multi-track masters were located and Paul’s Chief Engineer at his studio in Sussex, Steve Orchard, along with Paul fused the unheard recordings to the Jellybean mix. The extended track – which stretches to seven minutes compared to the original single’s 3 minutes 56 seconds – was then given a further polish with a remix by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent, whose extensive resume’ includes working with Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Coldplay.

Orchard says: “Paul remembered that there were two unused lead vocal performances by Michael and himself. He said we should try putting the unused lead vocals onto the Jellybean mix. The Jellybean mix is a 12″ and is much longer than the original version. It was originally made by making edit sections of the song with different instruments being muted to make up new sections and then spliced together.

“I needed to edit and arrange the alternative lead vocals to fit the 12″ format. We then rearranged the vocal sequence and inverted the original performance so that Michael opened the first verse instead of Paul, to give the song a different take to the original version. Then we added additional backing vocal parts from the original multi-track to further enhance the instrumental mix. Paul then said it would be great to get Spike Stent to mix the new version of the track to give the song a new vibe.”

And to celebrate the remix of “Say Say Say,” a new upbeat dance video has been created and was launched exclusively on Facebook today (Tuesday October 6th). Directed by the choreographer and performance artist Ryan Heffington – recently noted for his choreography work on Sia’s “Chandelier” promo – and filmed in LA, the video follows a teenage boy on a journey through his neighborhood. The boy’s sense of optimism is infectious as he brings joy and stunning dance sequences  to those he encounters on his travels.

The track is part of the Pipes Of Peace 2-CD Special Edition, which is made up of the original album plus a nine-track bonus disc including outtakes, demos and other gems. The Deluxe Edition also includes a further DVD which features single promos and unreleased clips from Paul’s film archives. In addition there is a 2-LP vinyl edition as well as standard and hi-res digital versions. All formats are out now.

DAVID BOWIE UNVEILS “★”

New original song written for new crime drama THE LAST PANTHERS

First look of opening credits featuring new Bowie music revealed:

Sky Atlantic has today unveiled the opening credits for major new crime drama The Last Panthers, featuring “★,” a brand new original song written and performed by David Bowie.

The first look of the title sequence comes just five weeks before the show launches simultaneously across Europe on Sky Atlantic at 9pm, 12 November 2015.

The track is the result of a meeting of minds between David Bowie and the director of the series Johan Renck who met during the filming of the show.

Johan Renck, director of The Last Panthers, commented: “I showed Mr. Bowie the two first episodes in the rough state they were at the time, and he liked what he saw very much. We discussed the various aspects of the show; naturally the plot line, but also the underlying currents of guilt and personality flaws. We talked about the dark heart of Europe. We talked about the biblical aspects of human nature. He asked if there was anything else to see, so I showed him the first concept board i had just made for the title sequence – images from the show laced with chimaeras and demons from the worlds of Bosch and Grunewald. That’s when he said go – it all fits. Then he played me his new song ‘★’.”

The six part series, jointly pan-European commission from Sky and CANAL + in France, stars Academy Award nominee and BAFTA winner Samantha Morton alongside double Cesar award winner Tahar Rahim, Croatian star Goran Bogdan and two time Academy Award Nominee, three-time BAFTA winner and Golden Globe winner John Hurt.

The series is produced by France’s Haut et Court TV (The Returned) and the UK’s Warp Films (This is England) and directed by the acclaimed Johan Renck (BloodlineBreaking BadThe Walking Dead as well as videos by Madonna, New Order, Beyoncé and Lana Del Rey) and was filmed in Marseille, Belgrade, Montenegro and London.

The Last Panthers will screen on CANAL + in France and on Sky Atlantic in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany and Austria from 12 November.

RYAN ADAMS CONFIRMED AS FIRST EVER MUSIC GUEST ON THE DAILY SHOW WITH TREVOR NOAH OCTOBER 1

Ryan Adams 1989 © Julia Brokaw (HI RES)
Ryan Adams 1989 © Julia Brokaw

In the wake of Ryan Adams’ full album cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989 rising to #2 on the iTunes chart, it has been confirmed that Ryan will be the first ever musical guest on Trevor Noah’s premiere week hosting The Daily Show. Ryan will be the sole guest on the October 1 broadcast, as announced today by Comedy Central.

Popular and critical reaction to Ryan’s take on 1989 has been equally over the top since its digital release September 21 on PAX-AM/Blue Note, with early raves multiplying by the hour, including:

“What you can’t question about this 1989 is the effort and care that Adams put into conceiving these covers… this is not 1989 unplugged. It is 1989 reimagined, with often startling results… you’ll stop wondering why Ryan Adams felt the need to redo 1989. You’ll just be glad he did.”—AMERICAN SONGWRITER

“Ryan Adams transforms Taylor Swift’s 1989 into a melancholy masterpiece… decidedly free of irony or shtick, and, perhaps more important for a covers album, transforms the source material…  In a sense, Adams has created the soundtrack to a fictional ’80s teen movie.”—AV CLUB

“There’s nothing ironic or tossed off about Adams’ interpretations. By stripping all 13 tracks of their pony-stomp synths and high-gloss studio sheen, he reveals the bones of what are essentially timeless, genre-less songs… If turning the biggest, shiniest pop record of the past year into a survey course in classic rock economy sounds like a novelty, it is. But it’s also the best kind—one that brings two divergent artists together in smart, unexpected ways, and somehow manages to reveal the best of both of them.”—ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“What elevates Adams’s 1989 beyond a mere meme and to an actually great record is how fully he inhabits Swift’s eminently durable songs. His 1989 fits thematically with his best work.”—GRANTLAND

“Adams has done Swift a major favor, by showing her core fans that, beneath all the pop, there’s a sturdy country heart beating in her music.”—WALL STREET JOURNAL
