McKITTRICK HOTEL POP UP SHOW DAZZLES FANS
VINYL GRATIFICATION INITIATIVE A MASSIVE SUCCESS
“DO YOU” OFFICIAL VIDEO STREAMING NOW
“one of the greatest American rock bands of its generation…genres and trends shift with time, but craftsmanship like this never goes out of style.” –– TIME
“Spoon’s eighth album is an immediate grabber on par with the group’s best work to date… a rich, luminous sound for a set of hooky songs… Spoon have always done surprisingly well on their own terms, in their own world. And that world sounds bigger and brighter than ever.” –– ROLLING STONE, 4-Star Review
“What happened last night at the McKittrick probably won’t be replicated ever again, but it made a strong case that you’d be a fool to miss Spoon in concert if you get the chance.” — ROLLING STONE
“They Want My Soul is the quintet’s most booming LP… These songs rip and burst and just go… They didn’t burn out. They’re not fading away.” — PITCHFORK, 8.6 Best New Music
“the best American band of the 2000s” — MAGNET
“Spoon is the greatest band on Earth” –– STEREOGUM
They Want My Soul, the eighth – and by early accounts, best – studio album from Spoon, is now available in the United States. They Want My Soul is already awash in waves of critical acclaim which continue to roll in as fans and critics alike herald the return of the modern rock mainstays.
Spoon celebrated their record’s release last night on The Tonight Show where they performed “Do You”. Keep an eye on www.tonightshow.com for a special acoustic performance of “Inside Out” recorded in the band’s dressing room.
This weekend, Britt, Jim, Rob, Eric and Alex joined forces with Punchdrunk’s interactive play Sleep No More at The McKittrick Hotel and Myspace to give lucky fans a treat they won’t soon forget. Invitees arrived at the McKittrick where they began questioning just what was going to happen. Select fans were whisked away by Sleep No More‘s actors – and Spoon band members – in order receive sacraments and be “reborn”. Once sacraments were distributed and souls preserved, a curtain fell to reveal the band as they launched into a rollicking rendition of They Want My Soul‘s “Knock Knock Knock”. Spoon kept the crowd entranced and hollering through a set lasting over an hour that was packed with soon-to-be classics from They Want My Soul and other staples from the band’s catalog.
The release was preceded by the never-before-attempted Vinyl Gratification initiative where Spoon rewarded fans with an exclusive 45 RPM 10-inch vinyl for preordering the album from participating independent record stores. The program was met with rapturous participation, resulting in Vinyl Gratification materials completely selling out within the first week. For those who did not take advantage of Vinyl Gratification, They Want My Soul is now available on iTunes, Amazon,www.spoontheband.com and the shelves of your local record store.
Spoon recently put forth the official video for “Do You,” They Want My Soul‘s lead single. View the video now on VEVO.
The band is currently on tour throughout North America. And as ROLLING STONE claims above, “you’d be a fool to miss Spoon in concert if you get the chance”. Philip Selway is pleased to present a beautiful new video for “Coming Up For Air,” the lead track from his forthcoming sophomore solo album,Weatherhouse. The “Coming Up For Air” video, directed by acclaimed Spanish film collective NYSU, emits a supernatural sheen as it takes place on a hazy film set filled with actors who display the importance of perspective. The camera pans in to show everything may not be as it initially appears. Selway’s airy vocals, pulsating rhythms and use of reverb add to the surreal nature of the visuals which result in an intriguing sensory experience.
Commenting on the video, Selway says: “Good videos can make you rethink the song that you’ve written. They also shine a light on what makes the track tick. NYSU have made a visually rich and intriguing piece for ‘Coming Up For Air’ which stands up in its own right, yet feels in tune with the track.”
“Coming Up For Air” can be viewed at http://youtu.be/vMxXmW1pqeU.
Selway will release Weatherhouse on October 7 though Bella Union as a follow-up to his 2010 solo debut, Familial. For this new record, Selway recruited fellow artists and former backing band members Adem Ilhan and Quinta to expand the instrumentation required to create Weatherhouse. Contrary to its predecessor, Weatherhouse adopts a darker, more brooding sentiment as well as a fleshed out musical composition. The album is currently available for preorder via www.philipselway.com

SEE BECK PERFORM THE SONG ON THE COLBERT REPORT HERE
BECK SONG READER ALL-STAR ALBUM OUT NOW VIA WARBY PARKER/CAPITOL http://smarturl.it/
Having been teased for days at http://heartisadrum.tumblr.com and during Beck’s performance last night on The Colbert Report, the video for “Heart Is A Drum” can now be viewed in its entirety athttp://smarturl.it/
Beck also performed “Heaven’s Ladder” on The Colbert Report (exclusive video HERE), from the Beck Song Reader compilation album released today by Warby Parker/Capitol Records. Available athttp://smarturl.it/
Directed by Sophie Muller and shot in Bergman-esque black and white, “Heart Is A Drum” finds Beck in a rural backwoods limbo, encountering figures from his past, present and possible future-including one with an uncanny resemblance to his former self as captured in 1993’s immortal “Loser” clip.
“Heart Is A Drum” is the latest single from Beck’s overwhelmingly acclaimed Morning Phase (Capitol). Still lodged in the Top 100 some 21 weeks since its February 25 release, Morning Phase has been hailed as one of if not Beck’s finest effort to date. Immediately upon the album’s release The New Yorkercommented “After listening to Morning Phase 50 times, I can’t find a single thing wrong with it… You don’t get many albums like this in your lifetime.” More recently Rolling Stone, NPR, The Los Angeles Times, Hitfix, among others, have listed Morning Phase high in their mid-year “Best of 2014 So Far” rankings.
The current Morning Phase tour has only served to multiply these accolades. See “Heart Is A Drum” live as the Beck road show resumes August 14 in Salt Lake City and continues through the fall. Dates are listed below.

MPL and Concord Music Group confirmed plans today to reissue Wings albums Venus and Mars and At The Speed of Sound as the next releases in the Paul McCartney Archive collection on September 23, 2014.
Both albums will be available in a variety of physical and digital formats. Starting with a 2-disc (2 CD) Standard Edition, the first CD will feature the original remastered album and the second CD will include bonus audio made up of material including demos and unreleased tracks. The 3-disc (2CD, 1DVD) Deluxe Edition will be housed in a hardback book featuring unpublished photographs, new interviews with Paul, material from Paul’s archives and expanded track-by-track information. The deluxe version bonus DVD will be comprised of filmed material from around the time of each release, some of which has never been seen before. The albums will also be available on special gatefold vinyl editions (vinyl editions include a download card). Digitally, Venus and Mars and At The Speed of Sound will be made available as both standard and deluxe versions – including Mastered for iTunes and Hi-Res formats.
Wings are one of the most successful acts the UK has ever produced, achieving no less than 14 US Top 10 hits and 12 Top 10 hits in the UK. Following 1973’s Band on the Run the mid ‘70s were a commercial heyday for Wings. Venus and Mars, the band’s fourth studio album was released in May 1975 ahead of the legendary Wings Over the World tour. Preceded by the US Number One single “Listen To What The Man Said,” Venus and Mars hit the Number One spot in the album charts on both sides of the Atlantic and went on to sell over 4 million copies worldwide to date. At The Speed of Sound was recorded in the midst of the same tour and released in March 1976. In the US it enjoyed the same chart success as its predecessor. Including the international smash hit single “Silly Love Songs,” the album went on to become Paul’s most successful American chart album spending seven consecutive weeks at Number One. In the UK it charted at Number Two, narrowly missing out on the top spot. Sales to date exceed 3.5 million worldwide.
As with all the Archive Collection, Paul has personally supervised all aspects of the reissues. The remastering work was done at Abbey Road by the same team who has worked on all the reissues as well as the Beatles’ catalogue.
Since launching the Paul McCartney Archive Collection in 2010, Paul has received two GRAMMY Awards for the releases. In 2012 he picked up Best Historical Album for Band on the Run and this year Wings over America picked up an award (Best Boxed or Special Edition Package) on the same night that Paul set a personal best by picking up five awards in just one night. In 2013 RAM was nominated for Best Historical Album.
Other titles released to date in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection are Band on the Run, McCartney,McCartney II, RAM and Wings over America.

Available For Pre-Order Now at Third Man Books, In Stores August 5th
At long last Third Man Records and Third Man Books are very proud to present their first commercially available book, Language Lessons: Volume I. Though the term book, in this case, may actually be a bit limiting considering what this whole package actually contains… Want to hear more? Read on.
Language Lessons is a 321 page hardbound book, co-edited by Chet Weise and Third Man’s own Ben Swank, full of contemporary poetry and prose including over 20 award winning and / or nominated contemporary poets and authors such as Dale Ray Phillips, a Pulitzer Prize nominee in fiction, C.D. Wright, a National Book Award finalist and National Book Critics Circle winner in poetry, and Adrian Matejka, a National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize finalist in poetry. Language Lessons is two vinyl LPs of jazz, psychdelic-punk, poetry, blues and pop from artists such as William Tyler, Destruction Unit, Ken Vandermark, Sampson Starkweather and more. Language Lessons is 5 pieces of frameable broadsides of poems by C.D. Wright, Frank Stanford, Brian Barker, Jake Adam York and Chet Weise with original art from former Big Boys guitartist Tim Kerr, one-time Hate illustrator Jim Blanchard, intertwangle-ist folk artist Butch Anthony and more. That’s a lot of bang for your buck… and it all comes housed in a hard-case clothbound sleeve. Has any other record label ever created such a thing? Are we mad?!
We are not mad. As previously mentioned, LL:VI will be Third Man Books first commercially available tome and signifies a strong intent for Third Man entering the universe of publishing. Third Man Books, like Language Lessons, will be fearless, imaginative, and eclectic. We hope to be a welcome addition to what is already a very compelling and thrilling independent American literary landscape.
Language Lessons: Volume I is now available for pre-sale direct from Third Man and will be available in discerning book and record stores the world over from August 5th.
For those attending Newport Folk Festival this weekend, you’ll get the first opportunity for a glimpse into LL:V1. Join LL:V1 contributors for excerpt readings on Saturday, July 26th at the festival. Featured contributors include Zachary Schomburg, Joshua Marie Wilkinson, Janaka Stucky, Sampson Starkweather, Paige Taggart, Kendra Decolo, and Chet Weise. For more information as it becomes available, keep an eye on http://www.newportfolk.org/
LANGUAGE LESSONS: VOLUME I
* The Language Lessons: Volume I box set includes a hardbound book of contemporary poetry and prose, two vinyl LPs of jazz, psychedelic-punk, poetry, blues and pop, and 5 pieces of hangable art all housed in a hard-case clothbound sleeve.
* In 321 pages, the book includes over 20 award winning and / or nominated contemporary poets and authors such as Dale Ray Phillips, a Pulitzer Prize nominee in fiction, C.D.
