NEW GLYN JOHNS-PRODUCED ALBUM OUT LATER THIS YEAR

Band Of Horses recently unveiled a new song at a surprise acoustic set played just inside the gates of Lollapalooza Brazil.

The performance was captured on a video by a local blogger and has since turned up–with the title mis-identified as “Long Vows”–at  andhttp://odetoboh.net/2012/04/band-of-horses-play-new-song-long-vows-at-lollapalooza-brazil/, among others. The song is currently un-titled.

The new song is the first piece of music to go public from the material Band Of Horses have begun work on with Glyn Johns, who was just inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in recognition of his work with The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, The Clash, The Faces and more.

Band Of Horses” fourth record and first with Glyn Johns at the helm will be out later this year. The new record is the first full length Band Of Horses record since 2010″s Infinite Arms, which scored Best of 2010 nods from Rolling Stone, NPR, Filter and more, and was nominated for a Best Alternative Music Album GRAMMY.

RAM, originally released in May of 1971, is the only album to be credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney and was Paul’s second post-Beatles LP.  It was overshadowed at the time by the drama of the dissolution of The Beatles, as played out in the world’s media. The album topped the charts hitting #1 in the UK and #2 in the US.  While RAM polarized critics upon its release, music fans and critics alike since have overwhelmingly embraced it, with Rolling Stone, for example, revising their original review up to 4 stars.  Recently RAM has enjoyed even further re-appraisal and acknowledgement including a number of tribute albums.

RAM was written by Paul and Linda, mostly at their Scottish farm on the Mull of Kintyre.  In the autumn of 1970 they flew to New York to start the recording process.  Without a band in place they auditioned and drafted musicians, who included future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken.

The band completed the album in early 1971 along with non-album tracks ‘Another Day’ and ‘Oh Woman, Oh Why’ which were released together as Paul’s first post-Beatles single ahead of the release of RAM and became a Top 5 global hit.  The multi-disc editions of the RAM reissue include both songs as bonus tracks.  The album also gave Paul his first post-Beatles US number 1 single with ‘Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey’ and a Grammy win for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists.

RAM was also issued in mono with alternate mixes, which were only made available to radio stations at the time.  This version has gone on to become one of the most sought after McCartney collectables.  It will now be commercially available for the first time ever on CD as part of the Deluxe Edition as well as a limited run on vinyl.

1977 saw the release of Thrillington, an instrumental interpretation of RAM, which was originally recorded in 1971 at London’s Abbey Road Studios and was arranged by Richard Hewson.  It was released under the pseudonym Percy ‘Thrills’ Thrillington, an unknown eccentric socialite who often cropped up in mysterious newspaper classifieds.  In reality Percy was a character devised by Paul and Linda.  The idea behind it was simply to have some fun and the concept of doing a full orchestral album was an ambition long held by Paul.

The additional film content features previously unreleased and exclusive content including the brand-new documentary, “Ramming” narrated by Paul, as well as the original music videos for “Heart Of The Country” and “3 Legs”.

The remastering work was done at Abbey Road using the same team who recently remastered the complete Beatles’ catalogue.

Paul McCartney Directs His Own ‘My Valentine’ Videos

Featuring Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp

Based On An Original Idea By Stella McCartney

World Premiere at Stella McCartney Los Angeles Location Draws Orlando Bloom, Zooey Deschanel, Jane Fonda, Dave, Grohl, Woody Harrelson, Joan Jett, Quincy Jones, Lykki Li, Jeff Lynne, Chris Martin, Gwenyth Paltrow, Kristen Stewart, Reese Witherspoon, members of No Doubt, Foo Fighters & More

This evening at an exclusive screening event at the Stella McCartney store in Los Angeles, Paul McCartney premiered his brand new, self directed videos for his song ‘My Valentine’. The track is one of two original compositions on his new studio album ‘Kisses on the Bottom’, which was released in February of this year and went to Number One on the Billboard Jazz Chart as well as going Top Five across the world.

The gala premiere event hosted by Paul and Stella saw the likes of Orlando Bloom, Jordana Brewster, Julie Delpy, Zooey Deschanel, Jane Fonda, Dave Grohl and Nate Mendel of Foo Fighters, Woody Harrelson, Joan Jett, Quincy Jones, Miranda Kerr, Jason Lewis, Lykke Li, Chris Martin, Jayma Mays, Gwyneth Paltrow, Richard Perry, James Ransone, Amy Smart, Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal of No Doubt, Kristen Stewart, Rumer Willis, Reese Witherspoon and more applauding Paul’s visual interpretations of ‘My Valentine’ featuring Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp each translating the lyrics of the song into sign language–each giving distinctly different performances, making both videos compelling viewing.  A third version combined both Natalie and Johnny’s performances into one film.

The videos were shot on 35mm and Paul worked with Academy Award winning cinematographer Wally Pfister (Inception, The Dark Knight),  editor Paul Martinez and producer Susanne Preissler to create these elegant and powerful films based on an original idea by Stella McCartney.

‘My Valentine’ is the second Paul McCartney music video Natalie Portman has starred in, the first being the Michel Gondry directed ‘Dance Tonight’ in 2007.  For this new performance, she was exclusively dressed by Stella McCartney. Johhny Depp also plays guitar in his version and recorded the track’s guitar solo live.  His guitar take was then mixed and mastered into the final track.  The original guitar solo on the studio version of the song was performed by Eric Clapton.

‘Kisses on the Bottom’ is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood – plus two brand new McCartney compositions ‘My Valentine’ and ‘Only Our Hearts’. With the help of both Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band, the album was recorded at the legendary Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, as well as locations in New York and London throughout 2011.

THIRD MAN RECORDS 12TH INSTALLMENT OF VAULT SUBSCRIPTION SERIES

EXCLUSIVE RELEASES FROM THE RACONTEURS, KAREN ELSON & THE WHITE STRIPES

thirdmanrecords.com

The hits just keep on rolling with the 12th installment of Third Man’s Vault subscription series.

First up is a 7” vinyl single featuring two previously unreleased recordings by the Raconteurs from their Consolers of the Lonely sessions. “Open Your Eyes” b/w “You Make a Fool Out of Me” are two songs that would later be re-recorded and repurposed for Brendan Benson solo albums. “Fool” would appear on Benson’s 2009 release My Old Familiar Friend while “Open” has morphed into “Here in the Deadlights” on his upcoming album What Kind of World. The versions on the 7” are not outtakes, demos, B-sides or anything of a cast-off nature. Rather, they are songs that just did not find a spot on the LP.

As Third Man’s own Jack White puts it, “’Open Your Eyes’ sounds like a hit. Seems like it could’ve been released as a single and I can’t remember why it didn’t make the album.”

For the LP component Third Man literally dug into its physical vault and dusted off Karen Elson’s live performance from Third Man on May 24th, 2010.  That evening’s performance celebrated the release of Elson’s debut LP The Ghost Who Walks and the live record documents Elson backed by her crack band in a truly ethereal, vibrant recording that breathes a life into the songs that is wholly different from their studio versions.

Paired with this elegant recording is an interactive record sleeve. The front cover depicts Elson in a field of peach with the striking image of her dress is die-cut. Coupled with a specially designed inner-sleeve, the listener can effectively play “dress-up” with four different looks for Elson, depending on the orientation of the sleeve. If that’s not enough, get rid of the sleeve completely and you can arrange the vinyl itself, pressed on split-color peach and black vinyl, to create a 100% unique dress design.

The bonus item for this Vault package is a DVD of the White Stripes titled Under New Zealand Lights. Made up of two different performances by the band on separate trips to the island nation.

The first finds them performing at the King’s Arms in Auckland in November 2000. This is some of the earliest known footage of the White Stripes outside North America (it was their first international tour) and finds them confident and captivating before a unexpecting crowd.

Come October 2003, the White Stripes were slightly more known but still in front of a crowd they had to work considerably to win over.  The audience was the student population of Freeman’s Bay Primary School. Jack and Meg provided a nice primer on American blues history and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves in this sweet, innocent performance that has been kept mostly under wraps in the nine years since it took place.

Subscribe now as Third Man will stop accepting orders for this package on April 30th.

JACK WHITE: “SIXTEEN SALTINES” VIDEO NOW PLAYING EXCLUSIVELY AT VEVO & jackwhiteIII.com

(Nashville, TN–April 5, 2012) Having premiered at VEVO, Jack White’s thoroughly unsettling “Sixteen Saltines” video can also be viewed at jackwhiteIII.com.

Directed by AG Rojas, “Sixteen Saltines” is a 180 degree turn from the previous “Love Interruption” video, eschewing that clip’s seductive palette for a magnification of the last frontier of urban wasteland and its dispossessed youth left to indulge any impulse. “Sixteen Saltines” seems to take place in a waking nightmare world outside of time or any kind of rule, a place you’d never want to live–but one you can’t stop visiting.

“Sixteen Saltines” is the second single from Jack White’s forthcoming debut album Blunderbuss, out April 24 on Third Man Records/Columbia and available for pre-order at jackwhiteIII.com.

“Sixteen Saltines” is currently available via iTunes or as a 7″ vinyl single available at your local purveyor of fine music or jackwhiteIII.com. To commemorate Record Store Day on April 21, Jack’s Third Man Records will release a “Sixteen Saltines” 12-inch featuring a  George Ingram-designed playable etching of the iconic Third Man logo on the B-side (Jack’s  cover of U2’s “Love is Blindness”). The grooves of the record play through the image, making it the world’s first-ever playable etched record ®. An ultra-limited-edition version of the “Sixteen Saltines” 12-inch, also featuring the playable etching, will pressed on clear vinyl–and filled with psychedelic blue liquid. The liquid-filled “Saltines” is the first-ever disc of its kind to be made available to the public–and will only be available at Third Man’s store in Nashville.

THIRD MAN RECORDS: NO APRIL FOOLS: 1000 JACK WHITE FLEXI DISCS DISTRIBUTED VIA BALLOON LAUNCH

RECORD STORE DAY 2012 RELEASES FROM JACK WHITE, KAREN ELSON, THE WHITE STRIPES & JERRY LEE LEWIS

JACK WHITE LIQUID-FILLED “SIXTEEN SALTINES” 12″ & KAREN ELSON LASER-CUT LACE SPLIT-COLOR DISC

AVAILABLE ONLY FROM THIRD MAN RECORDS IN NASHVILLE ON APRIL 21, 2012

http://thirdmanrecords.com

Three weeks prior to the April 24 release of his debut album Blunderbuss (Third Man Records/Columbia), Third Man Records has premiered the as yet unreleased Jack White album track “Freedom at 21” exclusively via 1000 flexi-disc records attached to helium balloons launched from the label headquarters in Nashville on April 1st, 2012: http://youtu.be/szoIcNykCc0

Envisioned as an experiment exploring non-traditional forms of record distribution and a way to get records in the hands of people who don”t visit record shops, the label was sure to use biodegradable latex balloons and all-natural twine in the process.

Accompanying the balloons were custom postcards with instructions for the finders to submit photos, discovery location and the date on which the record was found, all of which will be incorporated into a website where fans can access the information at http://thirdmanrecords.com/balloon

Statistics for similar balloon launches show a recovery rate of approximately 10% so it”s quite possible that less than 100 of the 1000 records launched will ever be discovered. Whatever the numbers, the “Freedom at 21” flexi-disc will surely be a highly sought-after collectible for years to come.

Next up, a veritable onslaught of TMR Record Store Day releases marking the April 21 occasion as seen at

JACK WHITE: “SIXTEEN SALTINES” –  The12-inch single of Jack White’s “Sixteen Saltines” features a  George Ingram-designed playable etching of the iconic Third Man logo on its B-side (Jack”s  cover of U2’s “Love is Blindness”). The grooves of the record play through the image, making it the world’s first-ever playable etched record ®.

But there”s a more… a limited-edition version of the “Sixteen Saltines” 12-inch, also featuring the playable etching, is pressed on clear vinyl–and filled with psychedelic blue liquid. The liquid-filled “Saltines” is the first-ever disc of its kind to be made available to the public.

KAREN ELSON: “MILK AND HONEY” – The new single from Karen Elson, a cover of Jackson C. Frank’s “Milk and Honey,” is pressed on milk and honey split-colored vinyl, and also available in a limited edition with a laser-cut lace sleeve. The visual these two elements make when combined together is simply stunning.

THE WHITE STRIPES: “HAND SPRINGS” B/W “RED DEATH AT 6:14” – Third Man will release a red vinyl with black wisps edition of the White Stripes “Hand Springs” and “Red Death at 6:14”, two songs that have been out of print on vinyl for over ten years.

JERRY LEE LEWIS: LIVE AT THIRD MAN – The CD/LP release of Jerry Lee Lewis’ Record Store Day 2011 live performance at Third Man will be available at ANY record store wise enough to have ordered copies for Record Store Day.

The liquid-filled “Sixteen Saltines” and laser-cut lace split-color “Milk And Honey” will ONLY be available from Third Man Records physical location in Nashville (623 7th Ave S) on Record Store Day, April 21st, 2012. The playable etching will also be available from Third Man and a select number of record stores.

Finally,  reports of Third Man pressing up the first ever 3 RPM record can be confirmed: Guests at Third Man”s March 8 third anniversary gala were not only treated to a once in a lifetime evening of culinary delights and custom tailored libations, a surprise live performance by Jack White, an opening set by Hell Beach and Greg Cartwright on the wheels of steel… Every guest in attendance left with a 3 RPM LP containing every Blue Series single Third Man has released. The world”s first 3 RPM record is a study in contradictions: Cut at the slowest speed yet playing faster than any other LP, a compilation of 7 inch records packaged like a 12 inch–but in a 12 inch sleeve made, like TMR”s 7 inch sleeves, of one continuous piece of paper folded in half and put into an acetate sleeve, easy to play but impossible to hear, given away from yet impossible to find… You get the idea. Or if you don”t:

Paul and Linda McCartney’s Legendary Album RAM Set for Deluxe Reissue

UK Release: 21st May 2012

US Release: 22nd May 2012

Paul and Linda McCartney’s 1971 album will be released across a variety of formats with new and exclusive content including a beautifully packaged Deluxe Edition Box Set– the ultimate collectable

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is an album from a long, long time ago, when the world was different.  This is an album that is part of my history – it goes back to the wee hills of Scotland where it was formed.  It’s an album called RAM. It reminds me of my hippie days and the free attitude with which was created.  I hope you’re going to like it, because I do!”
Paul McCartney, 2012

Following the successful recent reissues of McCartney, McCartney II, and this year’s Grammy winner for Best Historical Album Band on the Run, RAM is the latest album from Paul’s iconic back catalogue to get the deluxe Paul McCartney Archive Collection treatment.  As with the previous releases in the series, Paul has personally overseen every aspect of the project and the result is spectacular.  In keeping with the reissue campaign to date, the Deluxe Edition Box Set is the ultimate collectable for any fan of this album.  Its stunningly presented 112-page book, photo prints, handwritten lyrics and notes, four CDs and a bonus film DVD, tells the full story of a classic album that has gone down in music history as one of the most revered in McCartney’s catalogue.

RAM, originally released in May of 1971, is the only album to be credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney and was Paul’s second post-Beatles LP.  It was overshadowed at the time by the drama of the dissolution of The Beatles, as played out in the world’s media. RAM was also issued in mono with alternate mixes, which were only made available to radio stations at the time.  This version has gone on to become one of the most sought after McCartney collectables.  It will now be commercially available for the first time ever on CD as part of the Deluxe Edition as well as a limited run on vinyl.

RAM will be available across a variety of different formats:
