FOO FIGHTERS NOMINATED FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR AND 5 OTHER GRAMMY AWARDS

Wasting Light Nabs Noms For Album of the Year, Best Rock Album; “Walk” For Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song; “White Limo” For Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance; Back & Forth Documentary Nominated For Best Long Form Music Video

Foo Fighters have been nominated in six categories in the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards, including Album of the Year.

In addition to the evening’s highest honor, Wasting Light is also nominated for Best Rock Album, while its current single “Walk” is up for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song and album track “White Limo” is a contender for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. In addition, the band’s acclaimed documentary Foo Fighters: Back and Forth has been nominated for Best Long Form Music Video. Finally, Foo Fighters colleagues racked up two related nominations, with Butch Vig up for Producer of the Year for his work on Wasting Light and the Deadmau5 remix of “Rope” up for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.

Should Foo Fighters sweep the above categories when the GRAMMYs air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 12, 2012, the band would double its career GRAMMY tally from six to twelve. The Foos’ previous GRAMMY wins have included three for Best Rock Album (There Is Nothing Left To Lose; One By One; Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace), two Best Hard Rock Performances (“All My Life”; “The Pretender”) and one Best Short Form Music Video (“Learn To Fly”).

Speaking from Melbourne, Australia where Foo Fighters are in the midst of a sold out stadium tour, Dave Grohl said,  “We’re totally honored and blown away at the six nominations for Wasting Light! It’s nice to know that we live in a world where an album made in a garage, entirely to analog tape, with no help from computers, can be nominated for Album of the Year. Long live Rock and Roll!”

The half dozen 2011 GRAMMY nominations are yet another peak in possibly the most phenomenal year of Foo Fighters’ 16-year career to date: The path leading to the nominations began in earnest with the April release of Wasting Light, the band’s seventh studio album and first to hit #1 in its native U.S.–also debuting at #1 in eleven other countries including the UK where it ended Adele’s 11-week run atop the albums chart, and Australia and New Zealand where it has had the biggest first week digital album sales in both country’s chart histories.

2011 has also seen Foo Fighters receive the most positive critical notices of the band’s 16-year career including a 4-star lead review in Rolling Stone calling Wasting Light “the best Foos album since the first two,” as well as the band’s sixth Saturday Night Live appearance, first performance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the theatrical and televised premiere of the Foo Fighters: Back and Forth documentary (directed by Academy Award winner James Moll), and a still-ongoing world tour that included a sold out return to Madison Square Garden, two SRO nights at the L.A. Forum and a 130,000 capacity July 2-3 headline engagement at the Milton Keynes Bowl in the UK.

More recently, the Sam Jones-directed clip for Wasting Light single “Walk” took Best Rock Video honors at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

GIVE THANKS FOR THIRD MAN RECORDS’ WINTER BOUNTY

New Singles from Edgar Oliver and John C. Reilly & Friends

Four Reissues from The White Stripes

Third Man Records REVOLUTION Turntable, 45 box, and custom vinyl cleaning kit by Crosley

Third Man Records iPhone Case and Flat Auxiliary Audio Cable by Griffin

www.thirdmanrecords.com

Third Man Records celebrates the end of the year with a slew of new reasons to be thankful.

First up is a cornucopia of new vinyl 45 goodness beginning with Edgar Oliver’s “In The Park” b/w “ Hunger and Light” (TMR121). The latest in TMR’s Green Series of spoken word/instructional records comes from Edgar Oliver, the Discovery Channel show Oddities regular and critically-acclaimed, syrup-voiced actor, playwright and noir poet who’s haunted New York City since 1977. On his Third Man single he delivers the chilling poem “In the Park” with palpable suspense. The B-side “Hunger and Light” is recorded in Triple Reverse Cryptophonica ™ and will (hopefully) have you spending hours trying to figure out exactly what he’s saying. Edgar Oliver’s “In The Park” b/w “ Hunger and Light” will be released on vinyl and iTunes on November 22nd.

As for the ongoing Blue Series, a man who needs no introduction — but who we’ll introduce as John C. Reilly will release not one but TWO Third Man singles in November, both featuring Jack White, The Black Belles’ Olivia Jean and Fats Kaplin. John & Tom: “Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar” b/w “Lonesome Yodel Blues #2” (TMR112) finds John’s duet with Tom Brosseau sung in close harmony as they perform two songs originally by The Delmore Brothers. Becky & John’s “I’ll Be There If You Ever Want” b/w “I’m Making Plans” (TMR113) sees John paired with Becky Stark (Lavender Diamond) and swerves more in the classic country vein taking in tunes originally performed by Ray Price and Dolly Parton/Porter Wagoner. Both are released on November 29th on vinyl and iTunes.

But wait, there’s more TMR end of year celebration afoot, namely four offerings from The White Stripes: “The Big Three Killed My Baby” b/w “Red Bowling Ball Ruth” (TMR117) is a reissue of the decade-plus out of print only single off the White Stripes self-titled debut album. The A-side is Jack White’s tempered screed against the monopoly of American auto companies against the accented thud of Meg’s pounding drums. The B-side “Red Bowling Ball Ruth” is exclusive to this single and overflows with AC/DC-inspired rock riffs. Re-mastered direct from the original analog masters! “Lord, Send Me an Angel” b/w “You’re Pretty Good Looking (Trendy American Remix)” (TMR118) was originally released as part of the White Stripes Japan-Australia-New Zealand “Three Island Tour” in October 2000, and now these songs are back in print for the first time in over a decade. The A-side is a cover of Blind Willie McTell’s “Lord, Send Me an Angel” with parts of his classic “Ticket Agent” thrown into the mix for good measure. Pay attention to Jack White’s update of the lyrics to reflect his own geographical location. The flipside is an Auto-Tuned (before they called it that) remix of “You’re Pretty Good Looking” that’s a peculiar novelty to say the least. Both tracks are re-mastered directly from the original master tape.

The last two reissues from the White Stripes catalog to finish out the year are “Candy Cane Children” b/w “Reading of the Story of the Magi”, “Silent Night” (TMR071) and “Hello Operator” b/w “Jolene” (TMR067), releasing December 6th. Merry Christmas from The White Stripes is available again! 333 copies were printed on red vinyl and included as part of the White Stripes 2010 Holiday Merchandise package, but in print forever copies are now to be had on black vinyl. The A-side was originally recorded in 1998 and its’ title has been appropriated by Stripes fans as a term to describe themselves as a group. The B-side features Meg singing an a cappella version of “Silent Night” coupled with Jack reading the Story of the Magi from the Bible. The whole thing is a warming, heartfelt pile of Christmas goodness…dig in! While a picture disc version of “Hello Operator” b/w “Jolene” was available in 2010 from Third Man’s subscription-only series the Vault, the black vinyl, picture sleeve version is now available for all to buy and will be kept in print eternally. The sole single off of the Stripes sophomore “De Stijl” album, “Hello Operator” was the first song legendary UK DJ John Peel ever played by the band. If that wasn’t enough, the B-side showcases the band’s cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” a long-time fan favorite live only ever available on this single.

THIRD MAN RECORDS ROCKTOBER EXTRAVAGANZA

JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD BLUES SERIES SINGLE ROLLINGSTONE.COM VIDEO PREMIERE

JO McCAUGHEY IMAGES FOR SALE

THE LOST NOTEBOOKS OF HANK WILLIAMS VINYL LP

THIRDMANRECORDS.COM

Third Man Records is giddy to announce the addition of JEFF the Brotherhood to the esteemed list of artists to release an exclusive Blue Series single. Due out October 4, JEFF The Brotherhood”s Blue Series 7-inch (TMR 072) is some 12 minutes of godhead drone jams: A-side “Whatever I Want” plods along like the sickest Melvins deep cut, while the B-side cover of Tiger B. Smith’s “Everything I Need” is raw chugging punk rock with attitude to spare. The video for “Whatever I Want” was directed by Third Man’s in-house photog Jo McCaughey and is sick and twisted in all the best ways–and will premiere on <http://RollingStone.com/> >  on the single”s Oct. 4 release date.

Speaking of Jo McCaughey, Third Man has also announced the sale of three of her exclusive images from the set of The Dead Weather’s video shoot for “I Cut Like A Buffalo.” As these first ever shots to emerge from the TMR Studio Dark Room prove, Jo is an indispensable part of the Third Man family, having shot nearly every sleeve for the Blue and Green Series of singles, and an ever present documentarian for the live shows, events and behind the scenes day to day life at Third Man.

Also coming in October from Third Man: the vinyl LP edition of “The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams” (TMR 119). Stemming from unused lyrics left behind by the legendary singer after his death in 1953 and spearheaded by Bob Dylan, the album has a wide spectrum of current artists putting the music to Williams’ lyrics with fantastic results. Third Man”s own Jack White, Dylan, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Norah Jones and Merle Haggard are just some of the illustrious names to grace this truly unique project. The CD/download will be available October 4th via Columbia and the LP will be available from Third Man later in the month.
