ABOUT THE FILM:

On April 2nd 2011, LCD Soundsystem played its final show at Madison Square Garden. LCD frontman James Murphy had made the conscious decision to disband one of the most celebrated and influential bands of its generation at the peak of its popularity, ensuring that the band would go out on top with the biggest and most ambitious concert of its career. The instantly sold out, near four-hour extravaganza did just that, moving the thousands in attendance to tears of joy and grief, with New York Magazine calling the event “a marvel of pure craft” and TIME magazine lamenting “we may never dance again.”  SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS is both a narrative film documenting this once-in-a-lifetime performance and an intimate portrait of James Murphy as he navigates the lead-up to the show, the day after, and the personal and professional ramifications of his decision.

Jack White has unveiled an exclusive first look at “Freedom at 21,” the third video from his universally acclaimed debut record Blunderbuss (Third Man/Columbia). “Freedom at 21” is directed by Hype Williams, whose trailblazing 1990s work with 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G. and Missy Elliott defined the modern hip hop visual aesthetic–and whose more recent clips for Kanye West and Nicki Minaj expanded it that much further.

For his first interpretation of a Jack White song, Williams infuses his signature style with elements of classic American Grindhouse–the result being a clip that defies and smashes the conventions and boundaries of both the hip hop and rock video worlds.

A Thing Called Divine Fits was produced by Nick Launay (Public Image Ltd., Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and will be released August 28 in the U.S. by Merge and in Canada by Universal. The record will be out one day earlier in the UK and Europe via Anti-/Epitaph.

Divine Fits have confirmed an appearance at this year”s Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco. Further details regarding Divine Fits live dates will be announced as they are confirmed.

BLUR: Live Twitter Stream

For the first time, Blur will debut new material live on Twitter when they perform two new songs via a worldwide live video stream at 6:15pm BST on Monday 2nd July.

Filmed and streamed completely live from a secret UK location, the two new songs – which the band have never publicly performed – are Under The Westway and The Puritan, written for the upcoming sold-out Hyde Park concert.

Damon Albarn said -“I wrote these songs for Hyde Park and I’m really excited about getting out there and playing them for people.”

Tony Wang, UK General Manager, Twitter added -“People all over the world are connecting with the musicians they love on Twitter. Blur is taking this idea even further by debuting two new songs through a live stream and having a direct conversation with their fans on the platform. They know what their fans want and are setting the pace for the future of artist engagement online.”

STATEMENT FROM RADIOHEAD

Hello everyone,

As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three other crew members.  The collapse also destroyed the light show – this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace.

Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with & consequently we have to try and reschedule the following shows:

Filmed during overlooking The Gorge at the Sasquatch Music Festival, NPR has presented a stunning acoustic version of the album’s title track for their “Field Recordings” series.
