BAND OF HORSES TO PLAY FREE SHOW 6:30 FRIDAY JUNE 18 IN GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL

Band of Horses will play a free show 6:30 p.m. this Friday, June 18 at New York’s historic landmark Grand Central Terminal, in Vanderbilt Hall. The show is the latest in the AOL Pop Up Series and the first ever Pop Up show in New York City. For details on obtaining tickets, Follow Band of Horses or @AOL on Twitter or check Band of Horses or AOL’s Facebook pages.

Band of Horses is currently in the midst of a tour supporting its third full length LP and first for Brown/Fat Possum/Columbia, Infinite Arms, which debuted at #7 on the U.S. album chart, selling over 45,000 records in the week following its May 18 release. The AOL Spinner Pop Up show will precede a sold out June 20 headline date at Brooklyn’s Williamsburg Waterfront, after which Band of Horses’ globe-spanning tour will resume, including a recently added leg of July U.S. dates through to September headline stands at the Greek Theaters of Los Angeles and Berkeley.

Produced by Band of Horses with additional production from Phil Ek and mixed by Dave Sardy, the songs on Infinite Arms project the essence of the different locales across America that became the setting for the recording and songwriting process behind the album. The rich musical heritage of Muscle Shoals, AL, the sublime beauty of Asheville’s Blue Ridge Mountains, the glamorous Hollywood Hills and the vast Mojave desert all influenced the sounds on Infinite Arms and helped yield the group’s most focused and dynamic recordings to date. The serene woods of Northern Minnesota and the band’s native Carolinas inspired the songwriting, lending the compositions an air of comfort and familiarity.

Band of Horses is Ben Bridwell, Creighton Barrett, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey and Bill Reynolds. Long time touring members of the group, Infinite Arms marks the recording debut of Ramsey and Reynolds, while Barrett and Monroe graced the last album, Cease to Begin. Through touring together in support of Cease to Begin and during breaks in the Infinite Arms recording process, the band have become a cohesive force with all members making invaluable contributions to the unmistakable sound that founder Bridwell has crafted since the band’s inception.

The latest addition to Band of Horses’ acclaimed discography arrived recently in the form of “Life On Earth” available exclusively on the new Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack, joining Infinite Arms and its predecessors 2007’s Cease To Begin, the band’s 2006 debut album Everything All The Time, and a self-titled, self-released EP in 2005.

PAUL McCARTNEY UP & COMING 2010 TOUR CONTINUES, WRAPPING RECORD-BREAKING MEXICO CITY DOUBLEHEADER

SAN FRANCISCO AND SALT LAKE CITY STADIUM DATES SOLD OUT

TICKETS FOR FIRST-EVER NASHVILLE APPEARANCE ON SALE NOW

DENVER, KANSAS CITY, CHARLOTTE, TORONTO, MONTREAL, PHILADELPHIA, PITTSBURGH ON SALE SOON

Paul McCartney: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song In Performance at the White House To Air July 28

Having completed a sold out two night stand at Mexico City’s Foro Sol Stadium, Paul McCartney’s record-breaking  Up and Coming 2010 Tour will swing back to North America for a series of July-August dates, including two instant sellouts: July 10 at San Francisco’s AT&T Park and July 13 at Salt Lake City’s Rio Tinto Stadium. Further details of McCartney’s upcoming dates continue to emerge, as the most celebrated performer in popular music will make his first ever Nashville appearance July 26 at the music city’s Bridgestone Area, and will return to Denver (July 15), Kansas City (July 24), Charlotte (July 28), Toronto (August 8), Montreal (August 12) and Pittsburgh (August 18) before the summer is over.

The May 27 and 28 Mexico City dates were attended by over 100,000 of the most enthusiastic McCartney fans on the planet. Featuring the first ever performances in Mexico of The Beatles’ “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” and the Fireman’s “Highway” and “Sing The Changes,” among numerous other highlights, the twin 2-hour-plus marathon sets found McCartney turning the 100,000-plus-attendance doubleheader into an intimate affair: The first date alone saw a local man’s dream come true as he joined Paul for an impressive soundcheck duet of “I Saw Her Standing There,” while later that night a female fan whose “I Want To Dance On Stage” sign caught Paul’s eye was invited to do just that for an encore of “Get Back.”

Macca will be anything but idle in the month leading up to his next U.S. run: On June 2 The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song was presented to McCartney at a special concert in the East Room of the White House. The performance, featuring Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Jack White, Dave Grohl, Faith Hill, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris and more will air on PBS stations nationwide on Wednesday, July 28 at 8 p.m. EDT (check local listings) as “Paul McCartney: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song In Performance at the White House.” The Gershwin Prize for Popular Song was created by the Library of Congress to honor artists whose creative output transcends distinctions between musical styles and idioms, bringing diverse listeners together, and fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

Beginning June 12, McCartney’s Up and Coming Juggernaut will swing through Dublin, the Isle of Wight, Glasgow and Cardiff before concluding with a June 27 headline at London’s Hyde Park.

The Up and Coming  2010 Tour continues to target cities McCartney has never played before as well as historically significant markets from which he’s been absent too long: The July 10 show will be McCartney’s first concert within the city of San Francisco since The Beatles wrapped their last ever tour at Candlestick Park on August 29, 1966, the July 13 date will be McCartney’s first-ever performance in Utah, and July 26 as mentioned will mark McCartney’s Nashville debut. Elsewhere, the July 15 show at Denver’s Pepsi Center and August 8 date at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre will be Paul’s first appearances in both regions in approximately five years, July 24 at Kansas City’s Sprint Center and August 12 at Montreal’s Bell Centre will end a 17- and 20-year absences from those markets respectively, and July 28 at Charlotte NC’s Time Warner Cable Arena marks Macca’s first show in the city since 1993. The current run will conclude with a pair of engagements in Pennsylvania: August 14’s return to the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia and the August 18 opening of Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center, on which Paul will christen the new venue with his first Pittsburgh show in over two decades.

McCartney’s live shows have reached a new level of status in recent years, garnering unprecedented reviews from fans and critics alike.  He’s pushed boundaries, performed to millions and made global news with monumental shows including performances in Moscow’s Red Square, outside of the Coliseum in Rome, the largest outdoor show ever in the Ukraine, his first performance in Tel Aviv and a live performance transmitted to a NASA space station.  The Up and Coming dates, which kicked off in late March, are McCartney’s first U.S. shows since his Summer Live ‘09 Tour, which was prefaced by a triumphant sold-out headline set at the 2009 Coachella festival and a surprise Late Show with David Letterman mini-concert on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater (inside which The Beatles made TV history decades ago) that drew throngs packing Broadway from Columbus Circle to Times Square.  Summer Live ’09 began in earnest with an already legendary inaugural run of shows at New York’s Citi Field Stadium, the site of the former Shea Stadium where The Beatles played the 1965 concert that set the precedent for the modern-day stadium rock show. The Citi Field shows have since been immortalized on the gold-certified Good Evening New York City CD/DVD, released November 17 2009 by Hear Music/Concord.

Garnering rave reviews the world over, the Up and Coming Tour 2010 set list draws on two-plus hours’ worth of selections spanning the catalogues of The Beatles, Wings and Paul’s solo career, including tracks from The Fireman’s 2008 album, Electric Arguments, and has featured material never before played on U.S. soil.

Stay tuned to PaulMcCartney.com for information on tickets, additional shows and other announcements.

PHILIP SELWAY: FAMILIAL Out August 31 on Nonesuch

Philip Selway of Radiohead will release his first solo album, Familial, August 31 on Nonesuch Records. The album will be available for pre-order late June.

A collection of sublimely fragile, haunting and heartfelt songs, Familial is likely to surprise many—and not solely because these beautifully understated performances are coming from a drummer. Familial is so persuasively good as to make a case for Selway as a natural born singer-songwriter.

The very first seeds of Familial were planted in 2001 when Neil Finn organized an impromptu gathering of talent, including Johnny Marr, Eddie Vedder, Lisa Germano, former Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg, Selway and his Radiohead bandmate Ed O’Brien, in aid of charity. The resulting album 7 Worlds Collide was credited to Neil Finn and Friends, but when the project was revived in 2008 the singing/songwriting was divided among the ranks, which by then included members of Wilco. During those sessions at Finn’s Auckland studio, Philip came up with Familial’s “The Ties That Bind Us,” on which he made his debut as a lead vocalist. That song, and an earlier number, “The Witching Hour”–also on Familial—appeared on 7WC’s The Sun Came Out album, released August 2009.

Back home, Selway asked Courtyard Studios’ resident engineer and producer Ian Davenport to work with him on sessions that would yield Familial. Selway then invited Germano, Steinberg, and Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Sansone to join him in the studio. Familial finds these varied and accomplished creative voices working in concert to craft a subtly complex and completely hypnotic atmosphere. Curiously, traditional drumming is virtually absent from the record, which favors underlying textures and loops for percussion. At times Familial’s beats and instrumental colours are so subtle, it seems as if the acoustic air in the room is setting the mood, leaving space for the lyrics, which clearly come from the most intimate of places.

TOKYO POLICE CLUB’S CHAMP OUT TODAY 6/8 ON MOM + POP

Passion Pit Support Dates, Bonnaroo, Headline Dates Running Throughout Summer

Champ Championship Contest Underway

DOM Remixes “Wait Up (Boots Of Danger)”

Tokyo Police Club released their sophomore effort Champ on Mom + Pop today. The second full length offering from the Newmarket Ontario quartet whose previous releases include 2008’s Elephant Shell album and the 2006 debut EP, A Lesson In Crime, Champ hasn’t even taken 24 hours to generate some of the most enthusiastic critical reactions of the band’s career to date. The New York Post commented “it’s nice to hear a group smart enough to recognize they have a good thing going,” adding that David Monks’ vocal growth “makes him sound like he’s living the experiences of each song as he sings them”; The Atlanta Music Guide raved “Tokyo Police Club could quite possibly be Ontario’s finest exports since maple syrup” and called Champ “the top down, head bopping playlist for the summer”;  while The Dallas Morning News hailed Champ’s ability to “stealthily slip underneath your skin.”

The band is currently supporting with Passion Pit on a tour whose conclusion will see them play before more than 10,000 fans over the course of two New York shows. Following those shows, Tokyo Police Club will immediately embark on headlining dates taking them across North America and through the summer (full dates below).

Embracing the spirit of the record (and making for some extracurricular fun on tour), Tokyo Police Club recently threw down the challenge to their fans to participate in the Champ Championship, issuing the following statement: “Challenge us to something. Anything. Ping pong. Baking. Mario. Nerf guns. Hockey. Unicycling. Catching grapes in your mouth. You name it. When we come to your town on tour we’ll make it happen. This summer, it’s on.”  Fans can enter their ideas at TokyoPoliceClub.com and winners will have access to tickets, merchandise, etc. as well as the chance to meet the band while competing in whatever activity they submitted, as fans did in New York June 1 for a rousing and well-documented round of Beer Pong.

Champ’s first single “Wait Up (Boots of Danger),” recently remixed by Passion Pit, has also been reinterpreted by Dom, whose take–as well as download the original version-can be heard at http://pitchfork.com/forkcast/14447-wait-up-boots-of-danger-wait-up-boots-of-danger-dom-remix/ and/or http://stereogum.com/398882/tokyo-police-club-wait-up-boots-of-danger-dom-remix/mp3s/

BAND OF HORSES INFINITE ARMS DEBUTS AT #7

OVER 45K SOLD FIRST WEEK

APPEARING ON THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON MAY 27

MARK PELLINGTON-DIRECTED “LAREDO” VIDEO IN PRODUCTION

Summer Dates Added in Nashville, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Columbia

“Even when he’s singing about zoning out on the couch, it feels Grand Canyon expansive”–ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“mellow but grand, pretty but ballsy… The woodsy and spacious songs start as wispy acoustic things but blossom into electric storms”–GQ

“pure, polished AM-radio gold”–NYLON

Infinite Arms, Band of Horses’ third full length LP and first for Brown/Fat Possum/Columbia, has sold over 45,000 records in the week following its May 18 release, debuting at #7 on the U.S. album chart.

Infinite Arms also debuted #2 in Norway, top 10 in Canada, top 20 in Australia and New Zealand, making an impressive international showing overall.

The band’s career chart high to date comes in the wake of a North American tour supporting Pearl Jam, during which BOH’s Ben Bridwell joined the headliners for multiple encores of “All Along The Watchtower” as well as a climactic and rarely played  version of Temple of the Dog’s “Hunger Strike” at Madison Square Garden.

Band of Horses has been anything but inactive since wrapping those dates, appearing May 27 on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, days after sneaking in a stripped down acoustic set at the Masonic Lodge at L.A.’s Hollywood Forever cemetery. The band has also knocked out electric sets from the Roxy to Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern, and filmed a video for first single “Laredo” with Mark Pellington in Pioneertown CA—where they fit in an impromptu May 23 set at Pappy & Harriet’s.

Additionally, Band of Horses has contributed the unavailable elsewhere “Life On Earth” to the upcoming Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack, and will be adding a leg of July dates to a globe-spanning 2010 tour that will include some of its biggest headlining shows to date from New York’s Williamsburg Waterfront to the Greek Theaters of Los Angeles and Berkeley.

A current list of dates is below, with many more to be announced very soon. Visit www.bandofhorses.com for ticketing information.

Band of Horses is Ben Bridwell, Creighton Barrett, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey and Bill Reynolds.

The Orchard follows up Ra Ra Riot’s debut album, The Rhumb Line, released two years earlier (almost to the day) and immediately hailed as “a blissful chamber-pop breakthrough” in a 4-star Rolling Stone review (who named it the #38 album of 2008), and by Time Out New York as “classically pretty, but without getting all fussy about it.”  The Rhumb Line debuted at #109 on the U.S. album chart and went on to sell in excess of 60,000 copies as the band’s live draw grew exponentially.

Ra Ra Riot is vocalist Wes Miles, bassist Mathieu Santos, guitarist Milo Bonacci, violinist Rebecca Zeller and cellist Alexandra Lawn. The Orchard marks the band’s first time the band has been joined in the studio by drummer Gabriel Duquette, who has toured with the band since the release of The Rhumb Line.
