JD McPHERSON AND POKEY LaFARGE TEAM UP TO RECORD “GOOD OLD OKLAHOMA” FOR TORNADO RELIEF

ROLLING STONE PREMIERES SINGLE

Oklahoma native JD McPherson and fellow American music torchbearer Pokey LaFarge have teamed up to record Bob Wills’ classic “Good Old Oklahoma,” which will be released digitally on June 28, 2013. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the single will be donated to Oklahoma City Community Fund”s Tornado Relief endowment. McPherson says, “This charity does the best work possible by contributing to dozens of local Oklahoma charities directly related to tornado damage relief: rebuilding, clean up, food and water disbursement, pet recovery… you name it. This fund applies to possible future tornadoes, as well as what we”re dealing with now.”

Rolling Stone premiered the track today. Listen here: http://rol.st/19zqCPM

McPherson explains how the recording came about: “Pokey and I had been speaking in the days following the May 19th tornadoes about the possibility of recording a benefit song. He came up with the brilliant idea to record Bob Wills” ‘Good Old Oklahoma’ as a duet.  Pokey is from Missouri, but each time he plays in my home state, his band performs that tune and brings the house down. It was a perfect fit.”

LaFarge and his band were slated to record a Daytrotter session a few days after the tornado devastated the region, and made the impromptu decision to record the track during the session.

McPherson said “I don”t consider myself to be versatile enough a singer to hold a candle to Tommy Duncan”s original vocal, but Pokey”s sublime, informed performance on the second verse and harmony make the track for me.  Though I”m not built (unfortunately) to sing Oklahoma Jazz, I hope that what comes through the speakers is an audible love letter to my beloved home state.”

LaFarge adds “It’s with great pleasure that I get to work with one of Oklahoma’s finest, JD McPherson. To be able to record this Bob Wills tune is all too fitting for a good cause. We hope this helps.  We love Oklahoma!”

The single is available for purchase from www.jdmcpherson.com and .

VAMPIRE WEEKEND: ADDITIONAL FALL DATES ANNOUNCED

Touring in support of their critically acclaimed third album Modern Vampires Of The City, Vampire Weekend have added several more dates to their fall run. Along with previously announced headlining stops at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, the band have now announced stops at Philadelphia’s Mann Center and Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium, among others. The band will be supported by Sky Ferreira, Solange and Beirut on select dates.

Vampire Weekend’s Modern Vampires Of The City’s critical acclaim has been matched by its reception with the public: it entered the U.S. album chart at #1, and has gone on to sell nearly 250,000 copies in the month since its May 14 release on XL Recordings.

This is the second time Vampire Weekend has achieved such a landmark: Its sophomore album Contra also debuted at #1 in 2010, making Modern Vampires… the first time an independent rock band has entered at #1 with two consecutive releases.

UPCOMING SHOWS ANNOUNCED IN NEW ENGLAND

PRE-ORDER THROUGH iTUNES OR CD & LP HERE: http://shop.temporaryresidence.com/trr222

Explosions In The Sky and David Wingo, the creative forces behind Prince Avalanche: An Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, have premiered a gorgeous teaser trailer featuring a track from their collaborative score of the film Prince Avalanche on RollingStone.com

Filmed and edited by Steve Pedulla, the clip features the song “Wading”–one of 15 original compositions from the soundtrack. The video’s stark yet serene minimalism perfectly compliments Wingo and the band’s bewitchingly ambient aesthetic. It incorporates the shoot location of Prince Avalanche, the barren aftermath of the devastating 2011 Bastrop, TX wildfires, making an excellent visual precursor to the collection of 15 original compositions inspired by the film. See below for complete track listing:

1. Fires
2. Theme From Prince Avalanche
3. Dear Madison
4. Passing Time
5. Rain
6. Alone Time
7. Hello, Is This Your House?
8. Can’t We Just Listen To The Silence
9. Wading
10. Dear Alvin
11. The Lines On The Road That Lead You Back Home
12. An Old Peasant Like Me
13. Join Me On My Avalanche
14. The Adventures Of Alvin and Lance
15. Send Off

Explosions In The Sky is currently taking its live show–described by The New Yorker as ”one of the most ecstatic displays of loud rock I’ve ever seen”–on a limited run of summer dates in Brazil, Portugal, Canada and the US– including four additional shows just announced for New England. The band will be supporting Nine Inch Nails for much of the tour, see below for all announced dates. The touring kicks off with an August 3 appearance at the Osheaga Festival in Montreal, just days before the release of Prince Avalanche.

The soundtrack will be released August 6th (on Temporary Residence Ltd.), a few days before the film’s release (theatrical, iTunes and On Demand) on August 9th. You can pre-order through iTunes, or for a physical copy (CD & LP) go to http://shop.temporaryresidence.com/trr222

THIRD MAN RECORDS PRESENTS THE SHINS, THE KILLS & SEASICK STEVE FIRST THREE LIVE AT THIRD MAN ALBUMS RECORDED DIRECT-TO-ACETATE OUT JUNE 25

Third Man records is beyond pleased to announce the June 25th release of three very special live records — The Shins, The Kills, and Seasick Steve —more amazingly the first three releases recorded live using Third Man’s one-of-a-kind direct-to-acetate recording process.

Without overdubs or editing, all three records were recorded at the Third Man Blue Room last October, mixed in real time on a Rupert Neve 5008 console by Grammy Award winning engineer Vance Powell, and instantly cut to vinyl by master cutter George Ingram using a 1953 Scully Lathe that previously churned out masters for Cincinnati’s legendary King Records (the story goes that James Brown’s It’s A Man’s World was cut on this lathe among many more great sides).

Third Man is the only live venue in the world where artists can record their performance direct-to-acetate, and after these three, there are sure to be many more coming down the pipeline.

Check out the Lathe room in all its groove-carving beauty in this behind-the-scenes video featuring Seasick Steve: http://youtu.be/eOx6BcWQgno

The good people at Third Man believe that this new/old method of recording is as honest as it gets, bringing listeners as close to the experience of the performance as possible (of course, that is until their talented team of engineers and tinkerers manage to gather all the necessary parts to get their time machine and teletransporter back up and running.)

The Shins, The Kills and Seasick Steve Live at Third Man 12” records will be available June 25th individually or as a bundle (North America-only) on our website (http://thirdmanstore.com) and at Third Man Records in Nashville, TN, with online pre-orders starting now. Black & Blue split-color vinyl, available only to those who attended the corresponding show and pre-ordered at the time will be available for pick-up at our Nashville store beginning on release date.

THE POSTAL SERVICE: “A TATTERED LINE OF STRING” VIDEO PREMIERE LIVE NOW

TELEVISION DEBUT TOMORROW NIGHT ON THE COLBERT REPORT

Expanded Give Up 10th Anniversary Tour Plays To Huge Crowds, Rave Reviews

Ticketing, Additional Info at http://bit.ly/PstlSrvc
http://postalservicemusic.net/
http://www.subpop.com/

(Seattle, WA June 18, 2013) The Postal Service has unveiled its new video for “A Tattered Line Of String” today at http://youtu.be/K2xNj630NBU. The arresting and dreamlike clip finds one of two previously unreleased songs from the Give Up Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition (Sub Pop) transformed by Parisian video team AB/CD/CD (Lily Allen, Factory Floor) into a surreal tale of longing and laundry.

The Postal Service has also confirmed that it will finally make its television debut, performing on TV for the first time ever Wednesday, June 19 on The Colbert Report.

The ongoing 10th anniversary tour commemorating the Give Up Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition recently blew through New York, selling nearly 30,000 tickets over a two-night stand at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center that elicited rave reviews including:

“The place wasn’t tiny; it was the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and the arena was sold out for the first of two shows there. It’s at least an order of magnitude larger than the places the Postal Service played when it last toured a decade ago — a sign of the band’s continually spreading influence… these were oldies that sounded perfectly current, and perfectly settled. There was no need to tamper with an accurate prophecy.”–THE NEW YORK TIMES

“If last night’s Barclays Center show, part of a tour thrown to celebrate the reissue of Give Up, proved anything, it’s that their fans love them just as much as they ever have…  the band’s arena-sized show managed to sound current despite its sentimental undertones – and relevant even to today’s indie-pop landscape, for that matter… at Barclays’ 18,000-seat venue, the show became about purging (feelings! memories!) en masse. Everyone from the VIP to the far-reaching corners of the stadium sang along to ‘Such Great Heights,’ aligning the starry emotions beaming out from their loving, freckled eyes with the distant glare reflected from Gibbard’s guitar… drowning in the echoes of the thousands of fans singing back to them, I thought about how absolutely laughable the idea of a successor was. No one could ever be the Postal Service except for the Postal Service.”–ROLLING STONE

“I assure you that I’m not using the word ‘miraculous’ lightly. Before last night, the only other time Gibbard and Tamborello had played NYC was over a decade earlier at the 600-capacity Bowery Ballroom. To say that the sold out 18,000-capacity Barclays Center is a step up would be a slight understatement. It was a testament to the power of nostalgia, but also Ben Gibbard’s ability to write a damn good pop song. Looking at the duo on stage, with Jenny Lewis in tow, their astonishment at the situation was also palpable… everyone at Barclays Center shared something intimate and close to the heart. We collectively let each other in on a little secret we’ve kept hidden in car stereos, mixtapes, and iPods for a the last ten years. To be able to do that with 18,000 people simultaneously is something altogether astounding.”–CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

The Postal Service’s  2013 anniversary tour is arguably the single most hotly anticipated reunion of the year, selling out theaters, clubs, amphitheaters and arenas the world over, including the Greek Theatre in Berkeley and New York’s Barclays Center where second dates  were added by popular demand, as well as Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, London, Manchester, Detroit, Atlanta, Boise, Orlando, Columbus, and one of two upcoming Kansas City dates. The tour’s final leg begins July 16 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, BC, and will include stops in Portland, Seattle, Santa Barbara, San Diego, St. Paul, and a pair of two night stands in Los Angeles and Berkeley, CA before concluding August 3 at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

The 10th anniversary dates reunite Postal Service principals Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello with Jenny Lewis, who appeared on the original 2003 album and tour. Lewis also sings on the new “A Tattered Line Of String” and “Turn Around” on the Give Up Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition. Laura Burhenn (Mynabirds, Bright Eyes) rounds out the current touring lineup.

Give Up was certified platinum last year just shy of 10 years from its original February 9, 2003 release. Led by the single ”Such Great Heights,” the landmark album is, after Nirvana’s Bleach, the second-biggest selling album in Sub Pop’s 25-year history.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE …LIKE CLOCKWORK #1 RECORD IN THE U.S., AUSTRALIA, IRELAND & PORTUGAL

TOP 10 IN 12 MORE COUNTRIES

NEW NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES CONFIRMED

“(A) … a heft not heard since 2002’s breakthrough Songs For The Deaf, but the main event is always Homme’s bombastic riffage and desert-blasted end-of-the-world croon”–ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“a mini epic that shows they’re much more than just headbangers… they bring to mind David Bowie for a new age”–PEOPLE

“(FOUR STARS)… an exquisitely grizzled good time…”–ROLLING STONE

“a genuine revival, reminding us why we were compelled to bow down in front of Homme’s Queens in the first place.”–SOUND+VISION

“a heady, sinister brew of emotional pull and darkly beautiful melodies”–USA TODAY

In an all too rare confluence of events, the undisputed best rock record of the year is also the #1 selling record in the country: Queens Of The Stone Age’s universally acclaimed …Like Clockwork (Matador) has entered the U.S. Top 200 at #1 with more than 90,000 copies sold in the week since its June 4 release. The debut marks the Queens’ first #1 and nearly doubles the first week tally of the band’s previous album, 2007’s Era Vulgaris.

Produced by Joshua Homme and QOTSA, recorded by Mark Rankin with additional engineering by Alain Johannes and Justin Smith, at Josh’s studio, Pink Duck, in Burbank, CA, …Like Clockwork is the sixth–and if critical consensus is to be believed, best–Queens Of The Stone Age album. The world would seem to agree, as the record has also gone #1 in Australia, Ireland and Portgual, #2 in the UK, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland and New Zealand,  #3 in Holland and Austria, #4 in Denmark and top 10 in Germany, France, and Spain.

QOTSA founder Homme and his cohorts  Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and Jon Theodore have just announced a slew of new North American dates expanding the world tour in support of …Like Clockwork. Pre-sales for the new dates, which beginSeptember 10 in Toronto and run through October 9 in Tulsa, begin Wednesday, June 12 at 10 a.m. local time. General on-sales followFriday, June 14 at 10 a.m. local time, with the exception of Toronto, Nashville and Detroit – all of which are on sale the 21st.

A krautrock-Afrobeat stew that sounds better each time you notch up the volume.
– Rolling Stone

Set to be a cult favourite…because it contains fascinating ideas you won’t hear on most pop records.
– BBC

When Ultraísta released their eponymous debut album last fall, it quickly established a couple universal truths: 1) Nigel Godrich and Joey Waronker are incredibly innovative musicians and producers whose fingerprints are embedded in their most notable collaborators (namely Atoms For Peace, Radiohead, and Beck); and 2) Laura Bettinson’s beguiling voice and mesmerizing stage presence make the impressive pedigree of this band a moot point. Her voice could stand out over virtually any sound, and nothing proves this better than an album of star-studded remixes.

Ultraísta Remixes compiles a year’s worth of remixes from friends and collaborators within the ever-expanding Ultraísta orbit. Though some of these tracks have become social media sensations in their own right – collectively clocking more than two million plays on the band’s Soundcloud and YouTube channels – Ultraísta Remixes has been perfectly sequenced to succeed as a stand-alone album (an alarmingly strong one, no less). Rarely do remix albums have this level of quality control and seemingly infinite replay value.

Whereas Ultraísta’s debut album commits to its palette with uncanny precision and devotion, Remixes explodes its individual parts and reveals the group to be equally compelling as techno powerhouse (Four Tet, FaltyDL, DC Sux), dark electro-pop (Zero 7, Zammuto, ERAAS, Canon Blue), experimental dance (Prefuse 73, Matthew Herbert), and even driving industrial rock (David Lynch in an inspired NIN-meets-YYYs turn). The combination of all of these seemingly disparate parts makes for a surprisingly cohesive whole, and a remarkable companion to the original album.
