BOB MOULD: THE SILVER AGE: ALL NEW ROCK ALBUM OUT TODAY ON MERGE

APPEARING TONIGHT ON THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN

(September 4, 2012) Preceded by first single and video “The Descent,” Bob Mould’s brand new Silver Age (Merge) is now available for purchase via all finer physical and digital retailers.

Bob will perform “The Descent” tonight on The Late Show With David Letterman, backed by drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk, The Mountain Goats) and Jason Narducy (Split Single, Verbow), both of whom recorded Silver Age with Bob and accompany him live on all current tour dates.

10 brand new Mould compositions in the loud melodic pop/rock vein of the recently reissued Sugar catalogue, Silver Age has already been generating enthusiastic pre-release praise, including:

“the legendary former Husker Du and Sugar frontman remains amazingly capable of cranking out arena-size hooks with snarling three-chord authority”–ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“Bob Mould is still cranking out spiky post punk songs that are a s**tload better than many of his younger rivals… we wouldn’t want him any other way.”–FLAVORWIRE

“The Hüsker Dü/Sugar vet drops a blast of hook chiseled guitar noise with rueful lyrics”–ROLLING STONE

This week also marks the kick-off of the U.S. leg of Bob’s Silver Age/Copper Blue tour, which begins Friday September 7 at Williamsburg Park in Brooklyn. The live shows feature Bob and the band celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sugar’s Copper Blue by playing it front  to back, as well showcasing the new Silver Age material alongside an  ever-changing grab bag of Husker Du, Sugar and Mould solo classics. The Silver Age/Copper Blue tour will run through to an October 30 headline date at Los Angeles’ famed El Rey Theater, after which Bob and the band will play a November 2 Copper Blue set at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin TX.

BAND OF HORSES: “Knock Knock” VIDEO LIVE NOW

MIRAGE ROCK OUT SEPTEMBER 18 ON BROWN/COLUMBIA

ALL iTUNES PURCHASES TO RECEIVE iTUNES LP VERSION WITH EXCLUSIVE IN-STUDIO VIDEOS, MORE

VIDEO SAMPLES, ADDITIONAL CONTENT AVAILABLE AT www.bandofhorses.com

In the wake of its’ recent NPR Music First Watch premiere, Band Of Horses’ video for “Knock Knock,” the first single from new album Mirage Rock (Brown/Columbia) out September 18, has been unveiled for the world to see at HERE

Directed by Jared Eberhardt, “Knock Knock” features Band Of Horses’ Ben Bridwell, Creighton Barrett, Ryan Monroe, Bill Reynolds and Tyler Ramsey as subjects of a vintage nature film, running wild through the frontier of Salt Lake City, UT.

Director’s Statement: ”The ‘Knock Knock’ video was the perfect combination of three things. First of all as a fan, I had a genuine interest in making something that felt like the band had made it themselves, I didn’t want it to feel too slick. Second, I grew up in the area where we shot the video, when Band Of Horses wanted to shoot there I already had all the locations picked. And third, I wanted to pay tribute to the old nature films I remember from school, those old films were all about a bunch of guys going to exotic places and staging adventures, with very little craft or consideration to lighting or aesthetics. Shooting in the middle of the day, staging scenes in really artificial ways, strange eye lines from reading cue cards, etc. It was really fun and sometimes difficult to get my head around trying to make things look bad, but not too bad.”

Ben Bridwell on the video process: ”Jared really made us feel at ease, even in the planning stages before the shoot. He listened to our concerns and took extra care to make us feel like we stayed within our element, while at the same time pushing us to get good performances. It was a hell of a long day, but an exciting adventure for us – getting to see these beautiful parts of Utah and being around the great group of people that Jared hired for the shoot. It seems fitting that we’d finally get to shoot a video around Salt Lake City as we’ve got a song that pays tribute to the area called “The Great Salt Lake” from our first album. Better late than never.”

Mirage Rock is currently available for pre-order at iTunes, with all pre-orders receiving an instant download of “Knock Knock.” Additionally, every copy of Mirage Rock purchased via http://www.itunes.com/bandofhorses will receive the full iTunes LP version of the album, featuring exclusive videos of the band and legendary producer Glyn Johns making the record in the studio, and lyrics. The full iTunes LP content makes every iTunes purchase of Mirage Rock a special edition in its own right. A sampling of the exclusive video as well as other footage, photos and more can be seen at the newly revamped www.bandofhorses.com.

DIVINE FITS: Debut Album A Thing Called Divine Fits Out TODAY on Merge

“A Thing Called Divine Fits might be the best rock record I’ve heard all year.”–THE L

“With their sharp hooks and refined new-wave bounce, we have no problem calling this supergroup a super group”–ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY The Must List: Top 10 Things We LoveThis Week

A Thing Called Divine Fits, the debut album from Divine Fits, has been released today, August 28, in the U.S. on Merge and on Universal in Canada. It was released yesterday in the UK and Europe via Anti-/Epitaph.

Early critical reaction to A Thing Called Divine Fits has been insanely positive. Whether covering the album as a whole, first single “My Love Is Real” or various other deep cuts, the media has singled out every track on A Thing Called Divine Fits for individual praise:

“The hook in ‘My Love Is Real’ could have propelled an alternate-universe hit for The Human League — but a spikier, guitar-driven side still wins the day in ‘Flaggin a Ride,’ while “Baby Get Worse’ splits the difference with winning results.”–NPR FIRST LISTEN

“striking chemistry… jittery jags that gain urgency by feeling knocked out–from the breakneck Kraftwerk of ‘The Salton Sea’ to the Wire trance spackle of ‘Neopolitans.'”–ROLLING STONE

“the lock-step drums and spare rusty-razor electric guitar of ‘What Gets You Alone’ is like Boeckner fronting Spoon; and ‘For Your Heart’ is their well-balanced marriage”–NYLON

“‘Civilian Stripes’ is an achingly pretty acoustic number…  it’s a match too good to be true, and– particularly considering the sad state of Modern Rock in 2012– far too promising to let die.”–PITCHFORK

“a lean slice of garage-psych glory”–ROLLING STONE (“Would That Not Be Nice”)

“Rare you hear a song this undeniably great whose antecedent is impossible to find”–ESQUIRE Songs Every Man Should Listen To (“Shivers”)

“most bands also don’t come to the table with the level of quality present in each of Divine Fits’ songs either. New tracks, such as… ‘Like Ice Cream’… make for a diverse and exciting set of songs that rivals anything Boeckner and Daniel have done with their other groups.”–AUSTINIST

Divine Fits will be on tour well into the fall, with a Los Angeles residency being completed by an August 28 day of release show  at the Masonic Temple and a September 4 date at The Echo with Daughn Gibson supporting. See below for all currently confirmed North American dates and check for further news, updates etc. at http://www.divinefits.comfacebook.com/divinefits or @divinefits on Twitter and Instagram.

ULTRAÍSTA TO PLAY THREE U.S. SHOWS

Tickets Available Now At http://www.ultraista.com

Debut Album From Laura Bettinson, Nigel Godrich and Joey Waronker Out
October 2 On Temporary Residence Limited

Ultraísta-a/k/a vocalist/artist Laura Bettinson and multi-instrumentalist/producers Nigel Godrich and Joey Waronker–has confirmed a trio of exclusive U.S. live dates following the October 2 release of its self-titled debut album on Temporary Residence Limited.

The dates are the only confirmed Ultraísta U.S. appearances at present and are as follows:

October 19: Los Angeles @ Echoplex

October 22: San Francisco @ Independent

October 24: New York @ Le Poisson Rouge

Tickets are available now at the band’s store at http://www.ultraista.com.

Founded in London in 2011 around Grammy-winning producer Godrich, journeyman drummer Waronker and Goldsmiths College alum Bettinson’s  mutual love of Afrobeat, electronic and dance music, visual art, and tequila, Ultraísta wasted no time creating 10 inspired tracks of exquisitely crafted electronic kraut-pop for this phenomenal first outing.

Favoring mantras over traditional choruses and distilling their compositions to the barest essentials, the band possesses the kind  of masterful control over the pure anatomy of a pop song that only comes from having played a significant role in redefining the form in the 21st century.

Evidence of the above has recently leaked in the form of the tracks “Bad Insect,” “Smalltalk” and “Static Light,” which can be heard and seen variously at http://www.ultraista.comhttp://www.youtube.com/user/UltraistaTVhttp://soundcloud.com/ultra1sta/and www.facebook.com/Ultraista/, among other places.

ABOUT THE FILM:
On April 2nd 2011, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM played its final show at Madison Square Garden. LCD frontman James Murphy had made the conscious decision to disband one of the most celebrated and influential bands of its generation at the peak of its popularity, ensuring that the band would go out on top with the biggest and most ambitious concert of its career. The instantly sold out, near four-hour extravaganza moved the thousands in attendance to tears of joy and grief, with New York Magazine calling the event “a marvel of pure craft” and TIME magazine lamenting “we may never dance again.” SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS is both a narrative film documenting this once-in-a-lifetime performance and an intimate portrait of James Murphy as he navigates the lead-up to the show, the day after, and the personal and professional ramifications of his decision.

PULSE FILMS production of a film by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace

BECK SURPRISE AUG. 9 SHOW AT BIMBO’S IN S.F.!

BECK & McSWEENEY’S PRESENT

BECK HANSEN’S SONG READER COMING IN DECEMBER 2012

Beck has confirmed a surprise show August 9 show at Bimbo’s in San Francisco in advance of his appearance at this weekend’s Outside Lands festival. Tickets go on sale noon PST for the 18+ show, with a limit of two tickets per order. Tickets must be picked up day of show at will call with photo ID and are non-transferable with no ins and outs. Doors will be at 7:30 p.m. and showtime is 9:00 p.m.

Beck has also confirmed details of the long-gestating BECK HANSEN’S SONG READER, to be released December 2012 by McSweeney’s:

In the wake of Modern Guilt and The Information, Beck’s latest album comes in an almost-forgotten form—twenty songs existing only as individual pieces of sheet music, never before released or recorded. Complete with full-color, heyday-of- home-play-inspired art for each song and a lavishly produced hardcover carrying case (and, when necessary, ukelele notation), the Song Reader is an experiment in what an album can be at the end of 2012—an alternative that enlists the listener in the tone of every track, and that’s as visually absorbing as a dozen gatefold LPs put together.

The songs here are as unfailingly exciting as you’d expect from their author, but if you want to hear “Do We? We Do,” or “Don’t Act Like Your Heart Isn’t Hard,” bringing them to life depends on you.

BECK HANSEN’S SONG READER features original art from Marcel Dzama (who created the imagery for Beck’s acclaimed Guero), Leanne Shapton, Josh Cochran, Jessica Hische, and many more, as well as an introduction by Jody Rosen (Slate, The New York Times) and a foreword by Beck. The package measures 9.5” x 12.5” with 108 pages comprising 20 individual full-color song booklets—18 featuring original lyrics, and 2 instrumentals—with covers from more than a dozen different artists.

Readers’ (and select musicians’) renditions of the songs will be featured on the McSweeney’s website. Check back at http://www.mcsweeneys.net/pages/song-reader and BECK.COM for further information and updates as they are available.

WHITE RABBITS ANNOUNCE NEW DATES

Tour Extended Following Triumphant Lollapalooza Set

“There’s power to White Rabbits, which sets them apart from most of the other indie bands at Lolla, or in the game at all”–TIME OUT CHICAGO

“Lollapalooza’s sun shines, so do White Rabbits”–CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Their set early Sunday afternoon was a scorcher… easily won over the large crowd… Singer Stephen Patterson was in particularly fine form, delivering his lines with a passionate urgency, and he was driven on by the band’s muscular attack including the double drumming on many of the songs”–CHICAGOIST

Following a spectacular set on Lollapalooza 2012’s Bud Light main stage, White Rabbits have added an additional nine headline dates to an ongoing world tour that includes an August stretch of UK/Europe headline and festival appearances as well as four upcoming dates as direct support for The Shins.

The new dates begin October 4 in Charlotte NC and include stops in Norman OK, Athens, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago and Indianapolis before wrapping up October 19 in Columbus OH.

White Rabbits’ third album Milk Famous (tbd Records) recently earned a comparison from Time Out New York to “a Pixar film: you may get the idea right away, but there’s a treasure trove of complexity waiting to be discovered,” while Rolling Stone noted that “Milk Famous often recalls Radiohead’s ability to find integrity in restless mutability.” White Rabbits have also appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Conan in support of Milk Famous’ release.

The new record features Bob’s current band–drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk, the Mountain Goats) and bassist Jason Narducy (Split Single, Verbow)–on 10 brand new Mould compositions in the punishingly loud melodically sparkling pop/rock vein of the Sugar catalogue which was reissued via Merge on July 24.

Stream and share “The Descent,” the first single from Silver Age now

Where the current run of Bob Mould Plays COPPER BLUE dates commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 1992 release of Sugar’s debut Copper Blue with Bob and the band playing that record in its entirety, Bob’s fall dates supporting Silver Age will be more elaborate affairs: Copper Blue will still be played front to back, however an additional set and encores mixing the new Silver Age material with Husker Du, Sugar and Mould solo classics will complete the evening. In addition to the previously announced Copper Blue/Silver Age tour dates in the fall, Bob has also announced a date at the historic El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on October 30.

Pre-order Silver Age now on CD or LP in the Merge store and receive a limited-edition patch featuring artwork from the album. Pre-orders will ship to arrive on or around the September 4 release date.
