Ryan Adams has released “To Be Without You,” the second track to be made available from his eagerly awaited new album Prisoner out February 17 via Pax-Am/Blue Note and available for pre-order at http://ryanadams.lnk.to/Prisoner.

Today at instagram.com/misterryanadams, Adams unveiled a peek at the one of a kind 7-inch of “To Be Without You” recorded directly to vinyl in Electric Lady’s Voice-O-Graph booth. As with the version of album opener “Do You Still Love Me?” previewed on Ryan’s Instagram earlier this week, an acoustic version of each of Prisoner’s 12 tracks will be recorded direct-to-vinyl in the vintage booth, one of only four known models in existence. The 12 singles well then be distributed at random into copies of the forthcoming Prisoner Mystery Box. Further details of the Mystery Box and its contents will be revealed as they are finalized. Those who sign up at http://bit.ly/paxammystery will be the first to receive details and a chance to order the extremely limited box. Only one run of the Mystery Box will be pressed and only a dozen copies of the box will contain one of the Voice-O-Graph 45s.

In other news, Adams has confirmed a January 21, 2017 appearance on A Prairie Home Companion to be broadcast from Pasadena, CA. Tickets for the show are available on Ticketmaster.

Adams’ first full length album of new original material since the 2014 self-titled album that entered the U.S. album chart at a career high of #4, Prisoner will be available February 17, 2017 in formats including: standard digital, HD digital, 180G vinyl, CD, limited edition red vinyl at indie record stores, and a limited edition exclusive cover at Barnes and Noble.

The long awaited 10th release in the multiple-Grammy Award-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection has been confirmed: On March 24, 2017, Paul’s 1989 international #1 album, Flowers In The Dirt, will be the latest classic solo work from one of the world’s most revered catalogues to get the special treatment across a multi-format reissue released by MPL/Capitol/UMe.

The Paul McCartney Archive Collection release of Flowers In The Dirt was, as always, personally supervised by Paul himself.

One of the most critically acclaimed albums of the eighties, nominated for both BRIT and Grammy Awards, Flowers In The Dirt saw McCartney team up with Elvis Costello to co-write a third of the album (My Brave FaceYou Want Her TooDon’t Be Careless Love and That Day is Done) as well as boasting production credits from producers such as Mitchell Froom, Trevor Horn, David Foster, Steve Lipson, Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney himself.  Pink Floyd guitar legend David Gilmour makes an appearance on We Got Married and George Martin’s string arrangement on Put It There is amongst the many album highlights.

The Flowers In The Dirt Deluxe Edition Box Set will undoubtedly be yet another crown jewel in the collection of any Paul McCartney fan.  In addition to its wealth of audio and video content, exclusive features of the Deluxe Edition include a 32-page notebook of Paul’s handwritten lyrics and notes, a catalogue for Linda McCartney’s 1989 Flowers In The Dirt photo exhibition, a 64 page photobook featuring the music videos for The One, and a stunning, custom-created 112-page book telling the complete story of the album through exclusive in-depth interviews with Paul, Elvis Costello and other key contributors.  Along with expanded track-by-track information, the book contains album and single artwork as well as previously unpublished photographs by Linda McCartney.

Sessions for Flowers In The Dirt began in 1987 and the majority of the album was recorded at Paul’s Hog Hill Mill studio in East Sussex.  During the sessions Costello convinced Paul to dig out his iconic Höfner bass for the first time in years—a suggestion McCartney recalls as  “unsual because I had sort of parked it. I had thought I had outgrown it.  I started playing it again and never really looked back. It’s great that Elvis encouraged me to take it out.”  In preparation for his first major world tour in years Paul was looking to capture songs he could take on the road with him.  Paul told his band that he wouldn’t go out on tour unless he really liked the album. Looking back Paul recalls, “You’re always thinking, ‘Let’s get some new songs and take them on tour’ and you hope your new songs are going to work. Something like ‘My Brave Face’ would be a song that nobody knew at the start at the beginning of the tour and then everybody knew it at the end and it was the high spot of the whole tour.”

The original 13-track album was remastered for all the new configurations at Abbey Road Studios. The Deluxe Edition contains 18 bonus audio tracks across two discs, featuring previously unreleased demos, written and performed by Paul with Elvis Costello. Speaking about these tracks Paul said:  “The demos are red hot off the skillet and that’s why we wanted to include them on this boxed set. What’s great about these songs is that they’ve just been written. So there’s nothing more hot off the skillet as I say. So that was the kind of great instant thing about them.  I hadn’t listened to them in ages but when I did I knew we had to put them out. We made a little tape of them and sent them to Elvis, who loved them too.  We said we should put out an EP or something and now the moment’s finally arrived.

The Deluxe Edition also includes, as digital downloads only, three unheard cassette demos, Don’t Want To Confess, Shallow Grave and Mistress And Maid.

The DVD that comes with the Deluxe Edition includes all the music videos from the album, three new short films with unseen archive material that show some of the creation process of the album and the documentary Put It There originally released on VHS in 1989 – a behind the scenes look at the making of Flowers In The Dirt as well as featuring live performances from his 1989 World Tour.

The 2 CD Special Edition includes the remastered version of the album on the first disc.  The second disc includes Paul and Elvis’s previously unreleased original demos.

The 2 LP Edition also comes with a digital download version. The first LP includes the remastered album but in keeping with the original vinyl release doesn’t include Où Est Le Soleil (this track will be available with the accompanying digital download).  The second LP includes Paul and Elvis’s previously unreleased original demos.

Tim Kingsbury of Arcade Fire has unveiled his new project Sam Patch, confirming the February 17, 2017 release of its debut album Yeah You, And I on Dep Records preceded by first single “St. Sebastian.”

The music that would become Sam Patch was written and recorded from summer 2014 through winter 2016 after Tim completed Arcade Fire’s global Reflektor tour. Yeah You, And I is in essence a solo record. Tim recorded and produced the songs himself, building the majority of the songs up from synthesizer sequences and a drum machine loops, with layered organ, guitar and/or vocals added. “Up All Night,” the first song Tim wrote for the album, was entirely composed and partially recorded one evening in a London hotel room.

While Tim plays the majority of the instruments, and wrote and sang every song on Yeah You, And I, the album features a wide assortment of collaborators. John McEntire and Doug McCombs appear on “Never Meant No Harm” and “Up All Night.” “Listening” was co-written with Tim’s wife and partner Natalie Shatula. Basia Bulat lent her voice to seven of the record’s eight songs, and contributed vocal and piano arrangements on various tracks. Jeremy Gara, Arcade Fire drummer and Tim’s frequent musical collaborator, played drums on six of the songs.

First single “St. Sebastian” captures the essence of the album: The lyrical theme is one that Tim found to be recurring—a focus that was both conscious and otherwise—as he developed the songs. What motivates us in our lives? What do we focus on and what do we neglect? What do we use to distract ourselves from who we really are? Featuring musical touchstones from Tim’s past, such as Abba, Devo, Fleetwood Mac, Zamfir, Leonard Cohen and Stereolab and lyrical inspirations from everything from self-help books to Philip K. Dick to Greek and Christian mythology, Yeah You, And I asks these questions and more.

Sam Patch’s Yeah You, And I will be supported by a winter/spring 2017 tour. The first confirmed dates are listed below. For further information: sampatchmusic.com

PJ HARVEY TO EMBARK ON LONG AWAITED NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
15-DATE RUN TO SUPPORT GRAMMY-NOMINATED THE HOPE SIX DEMOLITION PROJECT

“Rhythms, in the form of militant drum beats, create a boots-on-the-ground feel. Guitars, jagged and fiery, cut through the groove like a fist in the air. And saxophones are raw, dirty and ready to howl… If times are tough, Harvey seemed to be saying, we may as well go down swinging.” – LOS ANGELES TIMES

“The show transfixed thanks to the skill and versatility of all the players, and the synergy that makes Hope Six… so coolly well-rounded. In all its martial glory, the record, and the show by extension, speaks to the many tiny ways that America hides the truth that it’s a territory that subsists on a dream of prosperity many never live to experience. The music could be beguilingly sweet, but the message burned hotly underneath.” – VULTURE

Following yesterday’s Best Alternative Music Album GRAMMY Award nomination for The Hope Six Demolition Project (Vagrant), PJ HARVEY will embark on her most extensive North American headline tour in more than ten years.

Featuring the 10-piece band that accompanied her on this year’s four sold out and critically lauded U.S. dates, PJ Harvey’s return to North America in April of 2017 will be a full run of dates across the continent. Starting in Toronto at the storied Massey Hall on April 13, the tour includes an April 20 stop at Brooklyn Steel and a May 12 stop in Los Angeles at The Greek Theatre. A full list of tour dates can be found below.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on Thursday, December 8th. General on-sale will commence on Friday, December 9th at 10am ET with the exception of Brooklyn and San Francisco dates, which will go on sale Friday, December 16th.

Lil BUB EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH RYAN HERE

unnamed

In an exclusive interview with the world’s foremost feline talk show host Lil BUB, pinball, comic book, black metal and hardcore enthusiast and multiple-Grammy-nominee-and-zero-winner Ryan Adams confirmed details of his first album of all new original material since 2014’s Ryan Adams.

During the intimate and revealing interview – which can be seen here – Adams divulged that the album, titled Prisoner, will be released February 17 on Pax-Am/Blue Note, and previewed and discussed snippets (or “sniplets”) of new tracks including first single “Do You Still Love Me?” which is available today for purchase and as an instant grat with all pre-orders.

“I was reflecting on the different states of desire and what it means to be a prisoner of your own desire,” Adams told BUB of the new record’s title, later adding, “I felt like I had been robbed of… the most valuable thing in a person’s life… Time.”

The twelve tracks that make up Prisoner came to Adams over a prolific period stretching back as far as the week his 2014 self-titled album entered the U.S. album chart at a career high of #4. During that run, Adams toured the world, recorded and released both his Live at Carnegie Hall collection and full-album cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989, and saw the aforementioned Ryan Adams garner two Grammy nominations – Best Rock Song for “Gimme Something Good” and Best Rock Album – while “Gimme Something Good” became the first vinyl single to go #1 at the Amazon music store.

And somehow during this two-year-plus whirlwind, Adams contends Prisoner virtually wrote itself. As he told Lil BUB, “Whatever was going on in me was strong enough that I only had to sit down and this stuff just made itself known.”

Ryan Adams’ Prisoner track listing is below. The album will be available February 17, 2017 in formats including: standard digital, HD digital, 180G vinyl, CD, limited edition red vinyl at indie record stores, and a limited edition exclusive cover at Barnes and Noble. “Do You Still Love Me?” can be streamed here.

Apple Music: http://smarturl.it/ KOTAapplem
iTunes: http://smarturl.it/ KOTAiTunes

Listeners were given a scorching preview ahead of KOTA’s release with first single “Range Rover Bitch,” hotly praised as “a dynamic trip across the rock spectrum…a blistering punk burst” (ROLLING STONE) and a “revved-up old-school riff-heavy pow-popper” (STEREOGUM).

Whatever KOTA means, the six-song mini-LP takes off like Queen on a skateboard, featuring Hawkins on lead vocals and nearly every instrument, with help from a few comrades in arms. From the hypnotic groove of opener “Range Rover Bitch” through the closing rave-up “I’ve Got Some Not Being Around You To Do Today,” KOTA mixes Hawkins’ chops and influences with a true-to-life cast of characters to create a meditation on life as a rockstar stranded in the suburbs. KICKS OFF FINAL RUN OF 2016 U.S. DATES NOVEMBER 5

© Alicia J. Rose
© Alicia J. Rose

On November 5th, Bob Mould will be kicking off his last run of tour dates on what has been a rip-roaring series of shows in support of his album Patch The Sky (Merge). From headline sets at packed clubs to a recent main stage set before tens of thousands at Riot Fest Chicago, critical and popular response to Bob’s recent live shows has consistently matched the energy and vitality put forth on each and every performance:

“The guitarist spun his bearish frame on one foot, as if being knocked around by the hurricane force of his solos. The notes poured out in thick, hyperspeed flurries. His attack conjured a 10-car pileup of tones and overtones, an orchestra of reverberation. There were two speeds –- fast and fastest -– as the bespectacled 55-year-old blended the blast-furnace intensity of hardcore with classic pop hooks.” – CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Mould had his amp cranked up loud and ripped more than a few sick leads when he wasn’t on the mic.” – LA RECORD

“Bob Mould and his crack-backing band attacked everything at full velocity, making it all sound like the work of a scrappy basement punk band determined to break through and conquer the world…Mould is on a hell of a run in both the studio and on the stage at the moment. His song craft and energy shame most younger acts and most of his veteran peers. – STEREOGUM

While in Los Angeles for his debut performance at The Hollywood Bowl, Bob and longtime band members bassist Jason Narducy and drummer Jon Wurster filmed an episode for “Last Call With Carson Daly” at The Echoplex. Watch their high-octane performances of “Black Confetti” and “The Descent”.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ newly announced North American tour will kick off at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY on May 26, 2017. The 19-date tour will make its way across the continent and will conclude June 29 at Los Angeles’ historic Greek Theatre.

The band were last in North America in 2014 with critical response being best described as ‘blown away en masse’:

“Visions of murder, catastrophe, transfiguration and desperate love issued from the stage, set to dirges, stomps and inexorable crescendos.” – NEW YORK TIMES

“Right up there amongst the best frontmen of this or any generation. No one on the circuit can both command and terrify a crowd quite like Nick Cave.” – DALLAS OBSERVER

“Thanks, Nick Cave, for ruining pretty much every other show we’re going to see for the rest of the month. Or year. Or ever. There’s no way anybody is going to top what we saw on Saturday night… it was a mind-blowing evening of rock ‘n’ roll.” – NASHVILLE SCENE

“Towering over everyone else, however, were… the Bad Seeds, whose merciless performance, delivered with the fury of hellhounds unleashed, easily stole Sunday from any up-and-comers…” – OC REGISTER

September saw the release of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ 16th studio album ‘Skeleton Tree’ and the companion film ‘One More Time With Feeling’ directed by Andrew Dominik. The theatrical success of the film was such that a second run is now confirmed nationwide starting December 1 (Tickets available for purchase at nickcave.com). ‘Skeleton Tree’ topped the chart across the globe and achieved the bands highest US chart position to date. Songs from the album will be brought to life for live audiences alongside other Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds classics and deep cuts.

The touring line up is as follows:

Nick Cave
Warren Ellis
Martyn Casey
Thomas Wydler
Jim Sclavunos
Conway Savage
George Vjestica
